Cash Walker always leaves a lady’s bed before morning—after all, he has a day full of chores waiting on his ranch. So when he wakes up one morning to his latest catch creeping out of the room, he figures he had it coming. Until later the same day, when she shows up in his barn. Turns out, she’s come to town to talk about the one subject Cash refuses to discuss with anyone. Abbi Daniels is tired of being the responsible woman her parents expect her to be, but even she can admit that jumping into bed with the last guy to see her brother alive wasn’t her smartest move. Cash won’t talk about the day her brother was killed, but she refuses to leave town without answers. Only the more she’s around Cash, the less she wants to return home and the more she feels like her old self again. With Abbi around, Cash’s no-commitment resolve breaks down. Around Cash, Abbi finds the freedom she’s craved for so long. But how will their fragile connection survive when all the things left unsaid between them come to light?
Marie Johnston is an award-winning, best-selling paranormal and contemporary romance writer. She grew up in the upper Midwest and planned to go to college for English. Didn't happen. She started college in accounting and was awful! Grabbing her inner science geek by the pocket protector, she changed to microbiology and medical technology where her only writing involved scientific articles and procedures. Eventually, she left full-time work for full-time baby raising but kept thinking, "one day, I'd like to write a book." Finally, before any more time passed, Marie decided to buckle down and write. She loves it!

I really enjoyed this one, probably more so than the first two books in the series. I wasn't sure how I'd like Cash after our introduction to him in the first two books, but by the end of this book, I really understood him and his actions a lot more.
Cash is one of the Walker Five, a group of cousins who run their family ranching business. He served with Dillon in the military and they both retired after one of their fellow teammates was killed in action by an IED. That friend who was killed is the brother of the heroine, Abbi. She arrives in town to get answers from "Reno" a.k.a. Cash Walker about what really happened with her brother since her family doesn't believe what the Army told them. She ends up hooking up with Cash at a bar and it's not until the next day that she finds out who he was. Oops.
From there they begin spending more time together and developing a relationship. While a week or two together that turns into love is usually unrealistic, I didn't find that to be the case this time. They spent a lot of time together, got to know one another, including their fears and family drama, and they even worked the ranch together. I admired Abbi's willingness to learn everything there was to know about Dillon's family ranching business. She really surprised me with her enthusiasm for something as mundane as operating a combine.
I honestly didn't have many issues with either Abbi or Cash. Sure, they had their hang-ups, but that was to be expected and I'd have been surprised if everything was perfect. I can't fault Abbi for her reaction to the truth either. It took a lot longer than I expected for them to make up, but that big gesture was awesome!
The ending was a bit disappointing since it leaves us hanging and wanting more insights into their future. But I know we'll hear more of that in the next books.
He and his cousin came home. But Perry didn't. In time Perry's shows up. Then Perry's sister needs to know why. And what happened to her brother. She fell in love with one of the last men to see and be with her brother at the end. She most throws her for her away. Perry wouldn't of wanted that for her.
Enjoyable Romance Three years after the death of her brother from an IED, Abbi goes looking for his former comrade Cash ‘Reno’ Walker, in order to get closure. When she finally locates him, she doesn’t expect him to be her recent one night fling! Cash never told the authorities that he believed that Perry Daniels had deliberately set off the device due to depression and he still doesn’t believe that Perry’s family need to know that particular truth. However, his decision to preserve Abbi’s memories of her big brother may cost him a future with her. I enjoyed this book and the characters in it, a recommended read. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Book three of The Walker Five series. I did not read book one or book two prior to diving into this one. It really didn’t matter. Long Hard Fall is the story of Cash Walker, the third cousin from the Walker Five ranch to find his HEA. He found it with the last person he would have suspected, the one person he should probably stay far away from. Three years prior to the opening of this story, Cash has come home from his last deployment and separation from the Army after one of his buddies, Perry Daniels, was blown up by an IED. Perry’s younger sister is now looking for answers and closure. What she finds is so much more. There have been secrets kept. Just how devastating are those secrets? You’ll just have to read and find out.
Long Hard Fall is an entertaining, relatively low-angst story with wonderful characters, dysfunctional families, and self-realization. I’m thinking I should go back and start at the beginning of this series. The Walker cousins are definitely book-boyfriend material.
Long Hard Fall was a great book. This is the second one I’ve read in the series but it is a standalone and didn’t disappoint. This book continued the inside look on the Walker family, this time on Chase. It was nice to understand why Chase never committed and fun to see him fall for Abbi. Abbi had some tough things to deal with, including the loss of her brother which inadvertently caused her to “accidentally” sleep with Chase. It was nice to see these two grow into themselves and each other. An enjoyable read! I received an ARC for my honest review.
I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Cash and Abbi certainly don't have an easy road but then that's what makes for a romantic read. Seeing how they overcome their obstacles and mistakes to see if they love each other enough to work it out. As with every couple in this series, love isn't just handed to them on a platter and I absolutely loved it! 💕
The story of Abbie and Cash is so sweet! This is one of my favorites and I do recommend reading this, you will not be disappointed. A woman finds her strength where she least expects it and a man finds love where he least expects it. Beautiful story, cannot wait to read more!
I must admit that Brock is still my favourite Walker but Cash is a very close second. Both main characters are wonderfully written and the story flows superbly. I am definitely a bit fan of Marie’s writing style. Definitely one click worthy as is the rest of the series. I received an ARC of the book and this is my honest review
Cash's life has been emotionally hard. Abbi's been treated like a child most of her life. In a way, they make an odd couple but they also make sense. Abbi is still dealing with the death of her brother in combat and Cash doesn't want her to know the full truth because it will hurt her. Emotional and angsty but full of love.
I did enjoy this story. Well done. The family leaned on poor Cash and he did his best to please and protect. and Abbi could see he was overwhelmed. But she needed the truth. Oh by the way, Frankie's calico is not a he. 99% of calico are female.
Playboy Cash Walker of the Walker 5 falls hard for a woman. However she is the sister of his fallen military buddy. He has secrets that could damage the first real relationship he has ever wanted.
First one I’ve read in the series . Enjoyed -more so Cash as she had been too dependent on parents , boyfriend etc but Cash finally realized that they needed complete trust and acceptance with each other .
To be honest, I wasn’t sure about this book when I read the blurb. I was so wrong, I loved it. The characters feel real and her secondary characters are just as engaging and add depth. Following their journey was touching and humorous, with many laugh out loud moments. Their feelings were heartfelt and understandable and full of emotion. Marie creates a wonderful visual of the area, the ranch and community.
This lady knows how to write, keeping you glued to your e-reader with a very satisfying read.
