After the sudden death of his fiancée, Travis Walker has thrown himself into work, and he's interested in purchasing neighboring land to expand his farm and ranch. That is until Kami Preston hears of his plans for her family’s property.
Kami’s dream of opening her own business will have to collect dust like all the old junk in her dad’s barn. As a widow with a young daughter, she’ll have to use all her resources to turn a profit on the derelict ranch her parents used to run. But that's better than having it fall into Walker hands.
Travis should be rooting for her to fail but he’s there every step of the way, with his easy smile and heavy equipment. Kami's grateful for his help, and for him. But the more time they spend together, the clearer it is that only one of them has moved on from a lost love.
Will Kami succeed, or will her land fall into Walker hands? Round up your copy now.
Marie Johnston is an award-winning, best-selling paranormal and contemporary romance writer. She grew up in the upper Midwest and planned to go to college for English. Didn't happen. She started college in accounting and was awful! Grabbing her inner science geek by the pocket protector, she changed to microbiology and medical technology where her only writing involved scientific articles and procedures. Eventually, she left full-time work for full-time baby raising but kept thinking, "one day, I'd like to write a book." Finally, before any more time passed, Marie decided to buckle down and write. She loves it!
I received a copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review. But I loved this book so much that I bought a copy as soon as it published. 💓
A really good second chance romance that is so much more. 💗
Travis has been in love with Kami since they were just kids but the timing always was wrong... until now. Kami always had a thing for Travis but never had the confidence to do anything about it. Yup... until now. After years of both of them being apart, they finally have a chance at real happiness. The book is really well written, as is the whole series, and the characters are so well developed that you feel like you know them. 💞🤠💕
This was a pretty good book, but it didn't hold my attention as much as I'd have liked. I started it a long time ago, didn't bother listening to the audio book for 3 weeks, then came back to it so I could mark it off my list.
I'll admit that I got annoyed with both Travis and Kami letting other people tell them what to do or how they should live their lives. In the end, they finally both speak up to their family and put them in their place. But it should have happened sooner so that we could have gotten more of them as a public couple. We didn't see them together much with Kami's daughter around either. Speaking of her daughter, she was pretty MIA for most of the book and only had brief appearances. I expect kids to be a bigger part of the book when you have a single mom/dad in the picture, but the author sent the daughter off to the grandparents for the summer instead.
I did like Kami and Travis together. Even though Travis was an intelligent and successful young man, he didn't look down on Kami and her decisions in life or lack of higher education. He supported her, her decisions, and her future. Kami just had some self-esteem issues stemming from her dad's constant need for perfection and then her in-laws criticism. Those issues kept her a little more reserved in this book than I'd have liked and her constant self-doubt conversations with herself became too repetitive.
The ending was really cute and I was happy to see the little family they had become.
Book 4 in the Walker Five series and a stand-alone novel.
I loved Kami and Travis’s story, two strong characters that were so right for one another, but dealing with prejudice, self doubt and having the confidence to create a life they wanted and run with it. I wanted to knock some sense into Travis for not getting his act together sooner. If an author can generate reactions whilst reading then she’s doing it right.
This book held my attention from the first page until the last line. There is nothing more rewarding than reading a lovely story, throw in great characters that are as real as anyone you might meet, and the supporting characters are exactly that, supportive. A great novel and series and one I highly recommend. Give it a go you won’t be disappointed.
***I was offered this book in exchange for an honest review. These are my thoughts on the story***
I’ve read a couple of books with the Walker family now and Guilt Ridden is another great one. This book can be read a standalone but it’s also fun to revisit characters from the other books. The characters in these books are always real and I love how the author never makes any of them the ‘perfect’ person. They each have their faults which we can all relate to. It was frustrating at times though with how much the small town weighed in on the main character’s thoughts and actions. It really hammers home how hard it is to overcome negative criticism sometimes. Great second chance romance that often put a smile on my face. Really enjoyed this book, the story, and the growth of the characters. Worth reading.
Second Chances. Academically Travis and Kami are poles apart and when they were teenagers, Kami let others opinions push them apart. This time Travis is determined to win Kami’s heart but it is his inability to hurt others that leads to him destroying the growing relationship between the pair of them. A thoroughly enjoyable story about characters with flaws. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Engaging characters that are perfectly flawed or flawed perfectly. An awe inspiring romance with plenty of steam. All around lovely balance of all its aspects. I haven’t read the rest of the books in the series and that had no ill effects on my enjoyment of the book but I did added them to my to be read pile. I received an ARC of the book and this is my honest review.
Great story line. I could not put it down. I especially loved the way the characters picked up the pieces after tragedies hit and moved onto making new lives doing what they enjoyed.
Sweet little romance about second chances and although there was a lot to the story it read quite well. Characters were okay and it was a sweet romance.
A great addition to the series. Very well-defined characters who are likeable and relatable and a plot that kept my interest throughout. And, of course, a satisfying HEA.
