Crescent Edge Pack #1

Escaping Their Pasts

Rate this book
Alpha wolf and loner Jonathan Waine was comfortable and content in his loner lifestyle. Thrown out of his pack by his father for being gay, he had finally found peace. Until the night he decided to go for a drink. That one decision changed everything: his solitude, his home, his happiness, and his future. Now, everything rested on one beautiful blond.

Ethan Gregory learned long ago that if he let people in, he always ended up hurt. He has been moving from place to place for years, never allowing anyone to get close. On his way home from work one night, a stranger comes to his rescue, and he realizes that this man is his fated mate. He does the only thing he can think of. He runs.

When the past comes back and literally bangs on the door, will Jonathan and Ethan get their happily ever after? Or, will they even survive long enough to find out?

Awesome start to a new series!

This was a bit slow at first but by 50% in I was thoroughly hooked! By the end I was all happy tears and asking, "What next?" I can't wait, so am starting book two immediately!

Really good story

My only complaint is the numerous errors. I did note author has editor, but may need a proofreader too. It bugs me since the errors throw me out of the story. Still, I look forward to the next book! Great debut!

So I had originally planned on reading the first chapter and see how I felt about this story, since I've been wanting to pick it up. Next thing I know its an hour and a half or so later and I have devoured the entire book!

It was so much better then I thought it would be, and I figured it was going to pretty darned good from all the hype it and book two had gotten. So I know what i might be reading next!

Thrills, wolves and fated mates. What more could I ask for!

A great debut story! I love finding new authors and L.N. Manning has created a great world. This book is short, concise, heated, sexy, thrilling and wonderful.

This book follows fated mates Johnathan and Ethan as they find each other and have to confront their pasts to keep their family, friends and each other safe. This is a thrilling story as they gear up to fight their former Alpha and Johnathan’s father, George. Their bond is tested and their love blossoms as L.N. Manning introduces you to her world of shifters. The book is a great start to the series and sets up and introduces many of the characters to feature in future books. I look forward to more from L.N. Manning and can't wait for Bulldog’s story next!

You can't undo the past. But with the right mate, you can fix the present.,

This promises to be an awesome series! The world is alive and vibrant, the characters well thought out and intriguing. The action- packed plot moves quickly. I could not put it down! I loved this book.
This series is meant to be read first. But if you read the Broken Oaks Pack book 1 first, you will find this book familiar, just told from a different point of view.
This is Jonathan and Ethan's story. Banished from his birth pack 100 years ago by his father, the Alpha, for being gay, Jonathan has given up on ever finding a mate to love. He ends up saving his fated mate and it changes his life forever. Ethan is all he never knew he needed. Ethan is broken. Badly beaten and thrown out of the same birth pack, he desperately needs the safety and love of a mate. Jonathan doesn't want anything to do with his old pack. He just wants to keep his mate safe. That changes when his cousins, Lucas & Marcus, show up on his doorstep. Lucas is on the verge of death. While challenging Jonathan's father, he is stabbed with a sliver- laced knife, to ensure he does not win. Jonathan cannot sit on the sidelines any longer. The time to take a stand against his father's tyranny has come. He must help Lucas overthrow his father in a fair fight. With Ethan firmly at his side, and loyal friends willing to help, the outcome is assured. Throw in an unexpected Fated mating in the midst of it all, and the excitement revs up. You will love this book!
Triggers: there is violence and death, & recallings of past abuses. None of this is gratuitous. There is also joy, steamy sex and HEA.
This book contains adult themes and language, violence, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.

Family comes in many forms

I wouldn't mind having Jonathan design my home. I must say I like the idea of scent mates as it's a fascinating concept. Ethan and Jonathan have a lot in common when it comes to their pasts, which is sad and I really just want to cuddle Ethan. It was so cute watching them play around as wolves and they have an amazing chemistry together. What I loved most about this book was watching Ethan grow into himself and the different types of bonds everyone had. It was wonderful seeing all the people who came to support Jonathan and for him to realize that there are many different kinds of family. I'm curious about Bulldog and I approve of his style of humor. I imagine his story will be full of reveals. An ending full of action with some surprises you won't want to miss.

Reading books of debutant authors is like a bet for me. in this case, I won, because this book had everything I like in a shifter story. however, the main couple wasn”t a classic combination of strong Alpha and delicate, submissive Omega. I have to say that the development of one of the main characters was an unexpected, very pleasant surprise for me.

Speaking of characters, the secondary ones were also very interesting, especially one of them. I hope the author plans to write a book for him, too. The pace of the story kept me engaged, there was not a single moment of boredom. This being said, I can”t wait for the next installment.

Fated mates! There”s nothing more I like in a shifter book, and this one was exactly what I look at in the genre, and more. Much more. The universe imagined by the author is like a breath of fresh air, because it combines the traditional elements with some innovative ones. Can”t tell which is which, it would mean to give away from the story, and I don”t want to take away from the pleasure of discovering it by yourselves.

There are also some secondary characters I fell in love with, there is so much about them that makes them to be lovable. I hope the next book comes out soon, because I”m seriously addicted.

CRESCENT EDGE PACK

What a GREAT BOOK!!! This is a new fast paced story that is engaging and truly well written. Jonathan is an Alpha, kicked out of his pack by his Alpha father. He has no intention of returning. Ethan is an Omega, beaten and banished from his pack because he's gay. Living in the human world he avoids trouble and keeps to himself. When Jonathan happens to see a smaller guy getting beat up by bigger guys, he had no idea he was saving his fated mate. These two are remarkable together. This is a fascinating book. I can't wait for the promised books to follow. L.N. MANNING, you have a new fan and follower. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

Great Debut!

This was a great debut and start of a new series! I love a good shifter romance. It is a gay romance, so if that isn't your cup of coffee, than don't bother. I love hot shifters regardless of their orientation. Jonathan and Ethan were a great pair! There was definitely a twist that you didn't see coming when they first met! They complimented each other very well. I'm looking foward to Bulldogs story next and then Marcus. I see L.N. Manning becoming one of my go to authors in the future. Take a chance on this book, you won't be disappointed!

this debut author was a surprise to me. the way the book read you'd think the author had written before. I love shifter books and this one was just like I like them. The alpha wasn't your typical macho no holds barred alpha and the alpha mate wasn't your typical submissive mate. I love a shifter book where the omega is snarky and bossy and the alpha rolls over and lets them lead. I'm already looking forward to the next book.

I really love the connection between Jonathan and Ethan. I did find that their relationship moved very fast but that sometimes happens in shifter novels. I liked the storyline, it wasn't your run of the mill main Alpha saves the day. It had humor, steamy scenes, sweet scenes that make your teeth hurt but in a satisfying way.
I loved the ending, I can't wait to see what happens next!

Received an ARC for an honest opinion from the author.

Incredible

Jonathan is different from so many alphas that you read since he doesn’t want to lead a pack. When he encounters Ethan, all he has dreamed about comes true as he finds his fated mate. As the two talk, so much comes to light that when people from Jonathan’s old pack show up, he knows he has to help them and Ethan is by his side.

I want more!

I found this book by joining a group on facebook, and I am so glad I did. Not only does it have a great love story. It shows that there are me "Alpha's" that will stand up to a bully. I fell in love during the first chapter and did not stop until the end. Now that I finished Johnathan and Ethan's story I will try to sit and wait patiently for book 2.

The story was really good and for the most part, the writing was good but there were some awkward parts here and there. I am interested in reading about the other pack members so I will most likely be reading the next book.

The opening of a new series in the MM shifter genre is a story of two shifters shunned from the pack for being gay, whom the destiny saw fit to connect.
The characters and story are engaging and well written and while the plot is not overly complicated, there are some intereseting secondary plots added that lay good openings for other stories. A strong 4*, so a great debut :)

A good start

This was a great series opener with an amazing cast of characters, Jonathan and Ethan seem to be the epicenter of a mating boom. I'm already looking forward to Bulldog and Edwards story. All in all a very enjoyable read.

Edit: With the names fixed, I added an extra star and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I liked the story, but I really hate it when the author/editor can't keep track of names. Nothing rips me out of a story faster than when the names gets mixed up. :(

It was ok. I do wish it explained more of the world, as it sure seems to have lots of things that could use more clearing up. The plot was fine, though, as were the characters.

I didn't really like it much. There were a few things about it that were nice. But the ones I didnt like were more.

What I liked about it was, mostly, secondary characters. Even with few on page scenes, they made a bigger impact in me than the main characters. I also liked some of the action scenes near the end.

What I didn't liked about it were a lot of things. The plot didn't catch my attention much. It didnt feel like something I haven't read before. That made it a bit predictable but all of those things didn't bother me that much like the lack of emotions. I didn't feel anything. The main character had no chemestry. I didnt believe in their love and I dont think there was much character development either. There was some interesting characters and, because of them, I will keep on reading the next in the series, to see if there is improvement on it.

Overall it was ok. Good enough to make me read it until the end, but with a lot of flaws that I hope change in the next books.

Underwhelming

If you don't mind poor grammar, bad character development, a poor story arc, and an author that almost adamantly refuses to use contractions to boost word count... this could possibly be the book for you. If those don't do it for you, then maybe the blatant telling (rather than showing) and the lack emotional connection with any of the characters will be what gets you to your reading sweet spot. Despite being a $0 purchase, I'd still like a refund of the valuable time I spent reading it. I usually give more than a single star review if the story itself is worth the slog through bad writing, or if the writing is worth the slog through a bad story. Welcome, readers, to an adventure into both bad writing and bad story.

Great start to series...

Escaping Their Pasts is the first book in The Crescent Edge Pack series by L.N. Manning. I love the story here and it definitely makes me want more books in this series. The characters, Jonathan and Ethan, are great... I love their chemistry and interactions. There is a little humor, some sweetness, some drama... it's a great story. Definitely worth the read.
