Kenneth Brannigan is a small-town history professor. He's happy with his life, loves the classes he teaches, and lives in a tiny apartment in a converted house with his best friend, Tim, next door. He's still recovering from a bad breakup and is content to stick to his comfortable routine. It's Tim who insists he come to the Queer Alliance's Rainbow Mixer.
At the mixer, Kenn meets David Burgundy, a new-to-town TA who is working on his masters. Dave is drawn immediately to Kenn and is thrilled when Kenn offers to show him the best pizza place in town. One meal leads to two, which leads to Dave and Kenn spending most of their free time together... and Kenn loosening his self-imposed rules regarding dating and sex for some kinky fun.
Kenn's ex isn't going to just let Kenn be, though, and the happier Kenn is with Dave, the less the ex likes it. Will Kenn continue to run away from his past, or will his relationship with Dave help him face it head-on?
Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."
A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.
Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.
This was a very physical story... lots of touching, caressing, kissing, and much more.
Kenn, is always on his guard and gives Dave his phone number just after several minutes meeting him.
There is something about that man...
Dave understands he must take baby steps with Kenn, it seems the man has gone through some awful experiences.
Tiny steps and Kenn is already melting under Dave’s attention. This can’t go on because there is a violent ex he can’t let him come close to Dave.
A lovely story, kindred souls, one with experience and one totally inexperienced. The way Dave shows his Dom side to Kenn was heartwarming, kind, and dedicated.
The way Kenn opens up to all those overwhelming feelings is endearing and hot. Both characters were written with a lot of sexiness, very appealing!
Again... it’s all very physical and I liked it. The focus on both men was well done. The world around them could burn down and they would never know. Dave’s goal is accomplished. I loved this read, it’s sweet, caring, and considerate, it has just enough development to make it a charming and engaging story.
Every once in a while it’s so nice to read a genuine love story, one that isn’t full of angst or miscommunication, but just a gentle, slow burning romance that sweeps you and satisfies you completely. Sean Michael’s Educating the Professor does just that. Carefully and slowly, the author creates a moment between two adults that has so little to do with BDSM and yet celebrates it all the same. Rather than just exploring the mechanics or focusing on the toys or equipment so often used in the practice of dominance and submission, Sean Michael opts to delve into the mistakenly held belief that one who thrives on that special bit of kink to release them from all that binds them is somehow broken or deviant. This author unlocks the taboo surrounding this kind of sexual practice by creating characters that exude kindness, gentleness, and love.
Altough BDSM is not my thing i loved this book it was scorching hot and heavy on the Love making but in the same time it was sweet and fluffy and I thought Dave was a wonderful dom being patient and always reasuring Kenneth So all in all a scorching hot book that Will make you swoon
The conflict between moving on from an abusive past and the reluctance to take a risk with someone new is at the heart of this story. Kenn is a quiet history professor, not very self-confident in public situations, and definitely not interested in another relationship. David is an archeology TA working on his master’s degree, new to town, and very self-confident. They hit it off from the moment they meet at a rainbow mixer, but while their romance is wonderfully sweet and super-hot once they explore their kinky side, there are a lot of underlying issues in the way Kenn sees himself, not to mention the a**hole ex trying to throw a spanner into the works.

I loved Educating the Professor by Sean Michael. I love reading Sean’s books when I’m in the mood for a book with lots of chemistry between the main characters and lots of kinky scenes. This book started out as more of a slow buildup toward the sexy times, but the book also had more of a plot than some of the other books that I have read by this author. If I had to improve on anything in the book, I would have liked to know more about what happened to Kenneth’s ex. The last time we saw him, he was ready to hit Kenn, and the police had been called, but we don’t know if he went to jail or if he backed off and gave up or even if the harassment from the private investigator that his ex had hired was still bothering them. I’m not entirely sure that they needed to be in the book, but like I said before, the book had more of a plot than some of the others. The ending and epilogue just didn’t answer all of my questions about what had happened. There were other parts of the book that definitely made up for the missing answers, like when Kenneth gets his piercings and all of their fun weekends together.
Kenneth had been verbally and physically abused by his ex-husband when he was caught watching what his husband considered perverse videos. He’s told repeatedly that what he wants is perverse and he was beaten until he couldn’t move because of it. He managed to run away and get a divorce, but it’s been over three years, and he’s still being harassed by his ex, which makes sense since he told him that he would make sure that he would forever be alone. So naturally he hasn’t been looking for a relationship, and he’s been relatively happy with just his teaching job and his friendship with his bestie, Tim.+
I loved Tim. He was the perfect best friend, bubbly, happy, and forcing his bestie to get out and do things like going to the Queer Alliance’s Rainbow Mixer. It’s at the mixer that he meets David Burgundy, a new-to-town TA who is working on his masters. They get to talking, and Kenn offers to show David around to all of the best places to eat. And they go from there to being friends with benefits to being in a relationship.
I loved how David is a Dom and has more experience than Kenn but he doesn’t rush Kenn into doing anything that he wasn’t ready to do, and I also loved how supportive he is in reassuring him that his desires aren’t perverse so long as they aren’t hurting anybody.

I really enjoyed this book. It isn't a really deep book, as always there is a lot of lovey dovey talk between Kenn and Dave. There is a lot of sexy time. There is a little drama and angst with Kenn's ex but we really don't find out what happens to the ex in the end which stinks. I love how patient and tender Dave was with Kenn, others may think he was being condescending or talking down to him but I took as him giving Kenn the time and space he needed to go at his own pace. These two had an instant connection and even though Kenn didn't want a relationship sometimes you just click with someone and want to spend time with them. This felt like a real life relationship and not some fantasy relationship and that is what I enjoyed most, it felt real.
I have some serious mixed reviews on this one and I'm trying to wrap my head around them. On the whole, the story was engaging, the characters were true to life and enigmatic, but I found the dialogue between them lacking and sometimes even bordering on weird.
At the start, Kenn is portrayed as a somewhat reclusive history professor who was admired by his colleagues and cherished by his students. In his small college town, he was well known and had a quite large set of groupies following his lectures. When his best friend and fellow professor guilts him into attending a school mixer, he meets grad student/professor Dave, and he's overwhelmed by his feelings towards him.
Here's where I started getting confused. Kenn had a past and it was brutal. He told Dave from the start that he wasn't ready to start anything, yet he spent all of his free time with him. He constantly spoke of being an introvert, yet was always with people, going out, wanting to spend time with Dave.
Another issue I had was the way Dave spoke to him. At times it felt like he was talking down to a child. And the responses from Kenn were always short (yes, okay, no). Most of the middle of the book continued on like this. It wasn't really until they found their groove, finally, in an unexpected way that Kenn finally got some confidence and actually articulated his feelings and wants as well as needs, but at that point I just felt like Dave had steamrolled him. It very much felt like an uneven relationship to me.
As I mentioned, I was intrigued enough to see where the story would take me to read it fully and it ended as I'd expected, so there were no surprises there, but I just got a wholly weirded out vibe from the entire relationship. Again, this is just me and my humble opinion.

This was a good read. It is a story about a man who endured mental and physical abuse from his ex husband and feels like he is not ready to move on yet even after all this time. But when you meet the right person, moving on becomes the number one priority. But letting go of the past is not always easy when the ex husband has made it his mission to not let happen easily.
Kenn is the man that I was just describing that endured so much pain from his ex husband. Even though Kenn is an extremely smart man, even a professor, he has let his ex get in his head and prevent him from moving on much less maybe finally living the life that he has wanted for a long time now. His ex has made him feel like a a less person for things that turn him on and now he believes those lies. So he is scared to even date.
But when he meets Dave, there is no denying that he is extremely attracted to the man. And after spending some time together and losing track of time, there is no denying that there is definitely something between them. After spending more time together and learning to trust one another, they both start to open up about things that interest them.
Just as they start to get their footing, Kenn’s ex decides it is time to ruin Kenn’s happiness. Will Kenn and Dave be able to continue to grow even with Kenn’s ex trying to ruin what they have been working towards together?
This was a great read. I enjoyed this book. The only thing that I wish there had been in depth explanation about the ramifications of the ex and what happened to him in the end. Other then that this was a good read.

Educating the Professor by author Sean Michael has the story a twist on the student and professor falling in love. I always like the twists and turns Sean Michael brings to a story. This one is a sweet story with great characters. Kenn, a small-town history professor. Recovering from a bad break up. He likes to stick to his routines. But when his best friend gets him to go to a mixer, he might have just found the one man to shake things up for him. He is a sub in desperate need of a Dom. David is new in town. A TA working on his masters. He is dominate. He is kind, patient, and younger than Kenn. He is a black leather silver buckle kinda Dom with a heart of gold. These two are what the other needs in a relationship, the one thing holding them back is the ex who won’t stay an ex. Are these two strong enough to stop a stalker? Really great relationship in this book. I loved the connection and love. The bdsm is light and not overly done. Just brings the romance to the next level. Overall a great read that I would recommend to anyone.
I appreciate the caring of both leads to each other, more or less from the beginning. This was not a hookup in their minds are all, which is usually a refreshing concept in a MM Romance :( And I liked their transition from strangers to friends because the author let us live their dialogues so it wasn't an "all tell, no show".
But since Kenn was a damaged guy (celibate for 3 years since the divorce of his abusive ex-husband, who only wanted him as a "husband-in-arms" -for show- and convinced Kenn he was a pervert only bc Kenn liked sex and was interested in bdsm life) and Dave is a caring dom, it was all like walking on a thin ice. Many "I am sorry" and "thank you" and "don't feel sorry/embarrassed" etc. I wasn't even bothered with the insta-love because sometimes it makes sense, but I just didn't like the power imbalance in their personalities. I get that Kenn needed a little push sometimes, but I didn't like it and felt uncomfortable about it.
I am glad Kenn stands up for himself and Dave towards the end, against his stalker ex, but the building-up didn't match at all, he went from 0 to 100 so it wasn't was satisfying as I wanted.
A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:
Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5
Another good Sean Michael book. Kenn is such an introvert but thanks to his friend Tim gets him to the Rainbow Mixer. Dave is instantly smitten with Kenn and spends as much time as possible with him.
I enjoyed this book but didn’t feel a lot of depth to it. I connected with the characters but everything seemed surface level.
I had a little trouble with the quick friendship that fast become friends with benefits and it felt a little like Dave was pushing himself on Kenn. Their kinks match perfectly though we had to watch Kenn come to terms with what he really wants. At times I had trouble keeping track of the timeline as it all seemed to move so fast and I thought the drama with Kenn’s ex didn’t really do anything for the story.
The cover art by L.C. Chase is great and I like the variety of visuals.
I'm a huge fan of Sean Michael. And I love this story. Dave and Ken meet at the beginning of the semester and the attraction is instant. Ken is surviving life after an abusive relationship and Dave, a new TA, sees a scrumptious possible submissive in Dave. Hotness and power exchange as only Sean Michael can follows. As well as a great story about a man who grows in the love of his Sir. Beautiful
I really enjoyed this story about Kenn and Dave who meet at a university party. Kenn has sworn off romance, but a new friend is tempting. I really enjoyed seeing how Dave dealt with each of Kenn's worries, concerns and fears. This was well written and would like to see more in the series
David and Kenn meet at a mixer. Kenn is only there because his best friend, Tim, promised to go to a local diner afterwards for cheesecake. David is new in town and is drawn to Kenn almost immediately upon meeting him. When Tim ditches Kenn for a hookup, David spends time convincing the skittish Kenn to have the cheesecake with him instead. David is sure that he wants to spend more time with Kenn, but knows he must tread softly.
Kenn is very introverted and lost his self-confidence after a bad breakup. He doesn't do much other than his work and spend time with his best friend Tim. I wasn't sure what to think about Kenn initially; he seemed confident in some ways, like his teaching, but personally his confidence and self-esteem have been shattered. Once I had a better understanding of his past, I could see how hard it would be to move forward and trust someone.
David is very confident. I liked how he recognized that he needed a softer approach to Kenn and drew him out of his shell little by little. I did think that he pushed a little too much at times and was a little judicious with his wording while he tried to put Kenn at ease, but it did seem that Kenn was more ready to date again than he was willing to admit even to himself. I was happy to see him let their physical relationship start slowly, getting Kenn to be more comfortable. I liked that he took his time and helped Kenn accept that his desires and wants were not a problem and that he was open to anything Kenn was interested in. I liked that Kenn grew more self-confident and stood up for himself by the end.
Like a lot of Sean Michael's books, there is an abundance of sex in this book. The BDSM takes a while to appear and is pretty tame compared to other books by the author. If you're a fan, you will probably enjoy this one. If you're new to the author, this book might be a good starting point for you.
