Books like this make me wish I were a storytime librarian. It's got activity, it's got fun noises, it's got animals. What more could you ask from a board book?
This super simple examination of who jumps (and who doesn't!) is fun, a bit silly (the dog's surprised jumping face!), and definitely lively.
I can't say this for many board books, but I absolutely adore this one. The format, the illustrations, the reader engagement... it's solid all around. I'll be looking out for more books by Matsuoka. (Bonus points for including a snail, which confuses kiddos and grown-up readers will find amusing.)
This is a cute board book yet some of the animals that jumped inside it, just didn't sit well with me. I know, I'm picky but that's just how I feel about it. I just couldn't see the cat and dog "boing" yet the other animals/creatures, I could. I loved everything else about this book as it's a great book that shows a lot of action and is one that could be read over and over. I think kids will love it.
I loved the crisp look of the book's pages as the text and illustrations that are on them are fantastic. The illustrations capture your attention as you turn each page. The bright and colorful, single image sits on a page with simple, large text. As the various animals/creatures jumped through the book, it was as if I could feel them move. From one page to the next, their body language had changed, the text changed and there was the addition of lines or other clues on the page. To read this book though, you'll need to turn the book sideways. It's a fun book and a book that can be reread over and over again. This would make an excellent beginning reading book also.
I'd give this one a 3.5, and would have loved it as an early reader. The pages of this board book lift upward so readers must turn it vertically in order to read. They'll notice various animals on each page, followed by a page in which each one leaps into the air. They all jump in different ways, and the illustrations and text show that. The jumping pattern is briefly interrupted with a snail, who struggles but cannot jump. Eventually, the book concludes with a young girl jumping just like all those other animals. This is a creative and imaginative book, sure to prompt readers to jump, jump, jump. It was originally published in Japan several years ago, but has a fresh look and feel to it, no matter the language. I'd suggest sharing this with little ones and having them mimic the various animals.
Leap into this great board book for toddlers! On one page, the animal is sitting waiting to jump, then with the turn of the page the animal launches into the air. Each jump is accompanied with a merry and silly noise that is some version of “boing!” Sometimes there are additional syllables to create even more fun. The format turns the book lengthwise so that the animals can jump even higher. The illustrations are simple and joyous.
A delight of a board book sure to get everyone jumping. Appropriate for ages 1-3.
This is a terrific new book for baby storytime or toddler storytime. I only wish it were bigger, but it can still work as long as you don't have a huge crowd. Also great for 1 on 1 reading, of course. The simple text and great graphic design (lots of white space, with an emphasis on the word "boing" are perfect for small children. It's great to participate by making your baby or toddler jump with you while reading! Highly recommended.
Jump! by Tatsuhide Matsuoka: A vibrant fun board book that my little one adored. This simple rhythmic text invites children to jump with the characters in it, making the book very interactive and engaging. Bright bold illustrations are playful, depicting joy in motion. It is a fine book to make toddlers on the go get up, giggle, and enjoy reading together by running out some energy. Ideal for an active curious toddler.
This is a board book with a simple concept: animals jumping. Each page is simply "Frogs jump" or "kittens jump", etc, with the following page being a silly picture of that animal going "boing!" So simple, yet so darling! (and the page about the snail cracked me up)
This was cute for very little ones who like to move around during a story and don't have much of an attention span. If it were a bit larger, I think it would work well for a story time- as is, it would work best with just one. The art is very cute.
This is such an adorable and fun board book. It's a brilliant use of page turns and direction of the board book. The text is brief and repetitive which is perfect for little readers. I love the simplicity. I love the illustrations. A truly excellent board book is rare, but this is a true delight.
It's a cute book for toddlers. Very simple, very short, with one word or a couple words per page. You don't read it like a regular book so that brings a cool interesting element to the book. The illustrations are adorable and made me giggle.
This book is rotated 90 degrees from what I would expect, with the binding at the top as you read it. Each page explores what a different animal looks like when it jumps (or maybe not!) and there are fun sound effects to read on many pages. Super simple but fun.
