She yearns to sing a new tune. He wants to mute the past. Can a secret baby bring them into harmony.
Xavier Ramos was always a smooth talker. As an army communications specialist, his gift of gab loosened the lips of informants and helped gain needed intelligence. But the collateral damage of his actions left scars inside and out. He battles his demons with a joking attitude and forced smiles, but gets tongue tied when he meets the daughter he never knew he had. It’s love at first sight for him and his little girl, unfortunately, her mother, the love of his life who he abandoned years ago, is immune to his sweet talk.
Cassie Butler was the quintessential good girl. She sang in the choir on Sundays and followed all the rules until the night she gave herself to the man she thought she would marry. But when Xavier went off to war and never returned, she was left heartbroken and pregnant. Shunned by her parents and community, Cassie has struggled to raise her child on her own. With no child care for her special needs daughter, she hasn’t had it easy and has resolved to never depend on anyone again. And then Xavier shows up in her life again.
His proposal is simple: a platonic marriage of convenience complete with a home and child care. But can she trust the pretty words of the man who broke her heart and abandoned her? For Xavier, opening up to Cassie about the wartime horrors that kept him away from her will be his biggest battle yet. And even if he can get her to trust him, can he convince himself that he is worthy of love again?
Find out if love can truly heal all wounds in this light-hearted, sweet romance of convenient arrangements that unfold into lasting love. Having His Back is the fifth in a series of marriage of convenience tales featuring Wounded Warriors who are healed with the power of love.
Shanae Johnson was raised by Saturday Morning cartoons and Afterschool Specials. She still doesn’t understand why there isn’t a life lesson that ties the issues of the day together just before bedtime. While she’s still waiting for the meaning of it all, she writes stories to try and figure it all out.
And by the way, the E elongates the A. So it’s pronounced Shan-aaaaaaaa. Perfect for a hero to call out across the moors, or up to a balcony. If you hear him calling her name, please send him her way!

I encountered The Brides of Purple Heart Ranch last week. 5 books later -- great stories, each standalone but better when read in order. Each book deals with a wounded warrior, wounds both physical and, in some cases, issues within. Each finds his lady and the classic romance begins. Note: courtship, gentle romance for all ages. Xavier find his past and a surprise. Loved the story. Wonderful characters, brothers and their wives. Bravo, bravo!!
Xavier is a flirt we know amongst the men, but now we know his secret and why he never wanted to get married, he's heart is captured by his first love Cassie Butler even before he was deployed. But after years of heartbreaks and misunderstanding, he finally found Cassie, but what shocked him was she was with a little girl. With the same beauty as her mother. And the same eyes as his.
Will they get back together after pains both suffered?
This is the best way to spend time with the most honorable men and women who have had the chance to serve this country and still live to make sure that you their lives are able to make sure that they can give all of the best possible memories for sharing the future in peace and harmony.
Sometimes they do happen. Sometimes they happen quick and easily. Other times the 2nd Chance seems like it will never happen let alone be easy.
The second option was Xavier and Cassie's lot in life. The years between the still knew the other was their true love but the journey was hard for both of them.
I am starting the 6th book in this series. They are heartwarming and very good. Brotherly love from wounded soldiers on a ranch that is getting trained and for each soldier to stay on the ranch, they have to be married. There is also a very conniving doctor on the ranch who does double work as a pastor. He helps to make the matches happen.
Life's path and events don't always take the direction we want it to. Yet if we hold on, feel believing we can find where we should be - at the end of a happy ever after dream.
This was one of my least favorite books of the series. I just did not like her. For some reason I didn’t think they matched well. I’m glad Xavier got his happy ending. But I would like to see it with somebody else.
Love all the books from this series. The author is amazing. She makes all the characters special and delightful. Each story has been different and interesting, keeping you wanting to read more. You finish and want to read the next in line series.
Xavier loved Cassie , she was the one who got away but she's back with a little girl. That little girl takes a liking to Xavier and in fact the whole ranch gang. Can he won back the girls mom?
I had a great roommate in college you loved short little Christian romance novels. This is that. The writing is not great nor is the story line. I loved how short it was!!! It was a quick easy read and no unnecessary fluff.
I love this series. Xzavier loves the woman he left 4 years ago and finds her and his daughter in a record store. Now to convince her he’s back and won’t hurt or abandon her again. She agrees in a marriage in name only for their daughters sake. Can he win her back.
My least favorite of the books in the series. It felt like the author was trying too hard to wrap everything up in a nice bow and it wasn’t as enjoyable. I loved Xavier in the other books and was super excited for his book too.
