The badly decomposed body of a young woman is found in the old nuclear bunker in Corstorphine Hill, where there is ongoing work being done to turn it into a museum. In her pockets are found items belonging to Becky McIver, a woman who went missing six years ago. Back then, Gus McIver was arrested and charged with his wife's murder. He maintained his innocence, and despite Becky's body never being found, McIver was sentenced to life in prison. No trace of Becky has ever been found. Until now. Miller looks into the bunker victim's background while McIver once again raises the question of his innocence. What was the dead woman doing in the bunker? How did she come to possess Becky McIver's belongings? Miller follows a trail that will lead him down some dark alleys, uncovering a truth that somebody wanted kept hidden. But it's a truth that will shock everybody. Some secrets are never meant to see the light of day, especially the one revealing what really happened to Becky McIver...
John Carson is the author of the DI Frank Miller detective series. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and lived there most of his life. In 2006, he emigrated to New York State with his American wife and two daughters. They now live in a small town in the Hudson Valley where his wife was brought up, with a German Shepherd, a Beagle mix and four cats.
After what seemed to me a real 'downer ' in book 10, the stories have got better again - in my view! I enjoyed this one but still miss any mention of the dog Bear and some of my favourite characters seem to be taking more of a back seat such as Jack Miller and Percy Purcell. Somewhat worryingly, my very favourite characters, apart from Miller, are the gangsters - Aidan and Molloy ! I would quite like them on my side.......!!
I have read the DI Harry McNeal series and the Di Frank Miller series. I was not able to put them down. There is mystery, intrigue, and even funny antics. The only negative thing i can say, is that they ended. I feel like im saying goodbye to friends. The books just draw you in, he even incorporates a character or 2 from his other series. Highly recommend his books. I going to search for more, lots more. Happy reading
Great book but too much bad language from both the " good" guys and the " bad" guys. Another intricate murder mystery with lots of characters and confusion is an exciting adventure! Unexpected ending and conclusion occurs--- this author is a master at the unexpected ending.
I have now read all 12 books in the DI Frank Miller series and every one was gripping. One of the best Scottish detective books I’ve ever read. I’m well through the Harry McNeil books now. Hopefully it won’t be to long before the next one is ready. John Carson is a fantastic writer and all his books are recommended.
These books have a large cast of characters and it's very interesting seeing how their lives evolve. I certainly didn't have any idea who the killer was. I recommend starting with book #1 and go to the last one in this series. Otherwise, you will not know who the regular characters are and that will diminish the pleasure you get from the stories.
I've loved this series and hope there will be more to come. Great character's that you can really relate to and I've enjoyed following their ups and downs. The humour between the team had me laughing out loud, especially Percy and his dad Lou , also Watts and Gibb.
I've read all the Frank Miller books and haven't been able to put them down. Great writing and I love the characters. Also I'm from Edinburgh so enjoy that connection. Lots of twists and turns. Can't wait for the next book
I like your mysteries because they aren't filled with sex scenes (graphically described in U.S. books). Also not filled with "LANGUAGE" I'm not a prude, but if I want to read or watch porn , there are sources for that. Keep writing, I love your books.
As with all of John Carson's other stories this one was very suspenseful and entertaining. I would highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys detective stories from the United Kingdom.
I liked all 12 books in this series. The author is creative with his character development and that's what kept me coming back. He's just a great writer and so descriptive . he never fails to deliver.
This series leaves me wanting another book. The characters are so well fleshed out that you feel you know them. Each character is complex, and the plots are full of twists and turns. It's just so well written.
I also found this book difficult to read, maybe because its been a while since reading the last one in the series. It did not hold my interest as his previous books in the series have.
Not a bad book but I read it out of sequence and had trouble keeping up with who had been married to whom - you almost need a family tree to keep track
Twisty, funny, and possibly my favorite book in this series. Plus I love that Molloy was in this one a bunch, definitely one of my favorite characters.
Finished DCI Harry Mc Neil then went on to read frank Miller can you tell me if there is a 13 book of him all have been brilliant next lot of books is max Doyle hope they are had good has the other books I have read thank you x
