Life can't get much weirder in the spooky city of Dunwich Heights. That is until junior occultist Martin Magus discovers a cursed ring that gives him the power to summon a trio of spirits to form MEGAGHOST, a giant supernatural robot sworn to defend the world against magical monsters, otherworldly menaces, and other creepy things that go SMASH in the night! And just in time, too, because a gang of juvenile delinquent cultists are plotting the ultimate act of rebellion - raising a demon from the depths with one goal on its mind: DESTROY DUNWICH HEIGHTS!
Written by Gabe Soria (Midnight Arcade, Batman '66) and illustrated by Eisner Award-winning artist Gideon Kendall (Marley's Ghost), MEGAGHOST is an action-packed, arcane adventure that mixes Saturday morning cartoon thrills with supernatural chills! Contains the entire Megaghost series (issues #1-5), the Megaghost Spook House feature story, 8 pages of brand new never before seen story content, and is packed with sketchbook material!
I love the fun and colorful cartoon art style. The story however, did not keep my attention. It seems to be aimed for the young readers with humor the older group would appreciate. There is also lessons about being a spoiled brat, teamwork, and siblings relationships. However, the stories are so blah that it may not click with the younger group either.
I did like how the narrator Joanna Dee presented her findings in comic book and VHS movie formats. It made me chuckle at this creativity. More interaction of her presenting her research was needed at the beginning and ending of each chapter.
A fun, whimsical read. Imagine Mad Magazine writing HP Lovecraft. The basic format is each collected issue is a stand-alone story that is part of a larger story arc. There is a narrative element which ties them all together. Great for kids but still fun for adults. The five stories tend to be simple, but they wrap up at the end of each collected issue, making this great for reading one at a time. The vocabulary used isn't simple and there are some absolutely brilliant puns that only adults will get.
This felt excruciatingly long and repetitive. Probably better as a Saturday morning cartoon. Also i was obliviously not the proper audience for a kids/preteens monster book😂
