Captured by aliens as a child, Ella was raised as the beloved pet of a kind alien couple. One night of blood and terror destroyed her sheltered life and shattered her voice. Now she’s a slave in the emperor’s palace.
Alone in a terrifying new world, she clings to the person who saves her - the dashing young emperor. But the handsome alien also arouses unfamiliar longings in her heart.
When Emperor Karthajin rescues a silent female from an attack, he does not expect to become an object of worship to the enchanting little creature.
New to the throne, surrounded by smiling faces and hidden enemies, he finds unexpected comfort in the innocent human who trusts him so completely. But as his feelings grow stronger, so does his reluctance to expose her to the viciousness of the Imperial Court.
Can an emperor lose his heart to a human slave? And will his empire ever accept such a match?
Each book in the Alien Abduction series features a different couple and can be enjoyed as a standalone romance. For readers 18 years and older.
I first read this a few years ago when I was in my weird 'humans as pet' era (yep, that's a thing). I came across it recently and decided to reread this and it happen to fit perfectly with the reading challenge. ・ ・ ・ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🕮⋆˚࿔✎𓂃 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
I'm still not sure how I feel about this one. I couldn't connect to the characters and it kind of felt like I was reading this story through a filter. Things were happening, but they weren't really penetrating for me.
Ella was stolen from Earth as a child. She became a slave to a somewhat benevolent couple who wanted her to remain a child. Why? Well, it all becomes clear as the story goes, but for quite some time, everyone believed that she was a child. I can't even comprehend being 18 and acting like a kid. Add the fact that she couldn't or wouldn't talk... yeah, it was hard to get behind.
Then there's Karthajin. As emperor, he never seems to have a free moment. He doesn't remember the last time he had some fun. With Ella, everything he'd forgotten was brand new. She brought out the best version of himself, as he did for her.
I will say this... the way the author described his manhood... Let's just say that I couldn't imagine something like that, but the idea of it was a bit enticing. Don't tell!
I loved this story! Tiny broken-bird FMC + big powerful caregiving MMC. Lot of hurt/comfort, size difference, and pet play. Many of the scenes felt like they had a ddlg energy, minus the 'daddy'. I like these tropes + kinks - but if you don't, you probably won't like this book.
Surprisingly, no big age gap! Ella is 18 and Karthajin is 23. His entire life, he'd been denied the freedom of discovery and play - so in a way, everything was 'new' for him, too. I loved how they both healed each other this way.
I wanted to write a proper review because I really loved this, but don't have the time. Something is better than nothing, though - so I'm just pasting my unorganized notes:
High vibes, low plot. Some tropey side characters. Lots of cuddling!
WOOOOWEEE this is yet another stonkingly great book by Honey Phillips!
To appreciate this book to its fullest you must read the previous consecutive books in the series.. it’s a vast world where humans are illegally abducted and sold into slavery. Each story gives us a further slice of the bigger picture... who has created a weapon that can destroy planets! And how each couple play their role is working to shut it down. Each book is filled with so many layers of world building that you cannot just dive in without reading them all... there’s a whole lotta story going on and you do not want to miss any of it...Trust me!!
This is Ella and The Emporor K’s ( k...because there is no way I can spell his name ) and by god is it a emotionally heart breaking one but also a very hot and steamy read. A story of a young emporor rescuing a small alien slave and finding himself falling head over heels in love. A wonderful old school Cinderella story.. set in space!.......With added red flower peens and butt plug tails!!🤣🤣🙌🏻💯 And a kick ass story to boot!! A story overcoming one’s destiny, making the tough choices and making fate your bitch.
I read this series slightly out of order (what can I say? I have a weakness for bearded, blue aliens who give off a strong Viking vibe--Helllllo, Athtar--and couldn't resist Faith's cover), so I had a wee bit of insight into Ella's situation going into this book. That said, I was pretty much smitten with her innocent sweetness in the face of the judge-y eyes and general viciousness and backstabbing that goes hand in hand with the people in Karthajin's palace.
Not that ALL of them were bad, but the few who treated her like an equal were the exception, rather than the rule. At least at first.
Frankly, her kindness, intelligence, and sweetness won over most of Karthajin's inner circle without much effort on her part.
As for the emperor, Karthajin is in a sticky place surrounded by a lot of people who are looking out for themselves more than him. Well, wait. That's not exactly true. He does have quite a few people who he can trust. There are just a whole lot of people at court who would as soon watch him burn as throw water on him in an emergency. Which is kind of a weird analogy, but there you go.
A silent slave who knows more than she knows she knows and an emperor trying to do right by his people. MAN, I like these aliens!
I've read two other works by this author and I thought I had found another sci-fi erotica writer that actually I liked. This was a disturbing reading experience for me. Karthajin believed Ella was a child when he first met her, and early on he was attracted & aroused by her?!?! I wanted to vomit. I don't care that Ella was 18 because the love interest believed she was a fucking CHILD when he was attracted to her. There was a repetitive description of how small and delicate Ella is (which is probably a pattern with Honey Phillips novels since I've read 3) but it paired with how innocent she makes it icky to say the least. I can not and will not root for a romance that has borders pedophilia. I no longer will read any more works from this author.
I normally do not care for young H/h, I guess is hard for me to relate to them so I usually avoid this type of books, and I would have passed on this book if it was from another author, but Ms. Phillips has this ability to create great stories and her characters are usually mature and centered. I’m happy to say that I truly enjoyed Karthajin and Ella relationship, I will recommend this book, to anyone. I’m looking forward to the next book.
The alien/pet trope is one that doesn’t always work for me — the dynamic is usually flirting with “not my jam” — and sadly this is one I couldn’t get through. My main issue was how Ella was perceived to be (and acted) child-like and/or pet-like for so much of the book, even though from skimming I knew there was more backstory given to that later.
Karthajin is spying on his royal palace, as one does, when he comes across a despicable scene: his guardsmen trying to assault a woman. Furious, he goes to her rescue before their dastardly plans can be carried out. Ella attaches herself to him immediately and does not leave. Assuming she is a child, Karthajin lets her, even though he is the emperor. He’s in for a rude awakening when he realizes just how grown up Ella can be.
This was very cute. I loved it. I will say that Ella had a childish personality that some readers may not like. She isn’t the sassy, independent heroine of most science fiction. However, there are acceptable reasons for it. She was doing what she knew how to do. I loved their trust in each other also as so many romances have a plot contingent on a misunderstanding.
Romance was well drawn out and the sex was great. Includes some kitten-play that was so adorable my nose started bleeding (just kitten). Plot bored me a bit though.
This book had nicknames for the heroine, "pet" and "little girl" which I really didn't like.
The heroine was stolen as a child and was barely considered an adult. She didn't even know what sex was as she was raised by aliens and they wanted her to be an innocent child forever. She was never around other humans.
The hero is the emperor who saves her from rape. She starts following him around and he thinks she's a kid so he allows it.
This book just didn't work for me. Also there is kitten play where she acts like a cat and wears a tail attached to a dildo.
I stumbled across Honey when I had finished another authors books. I have been on a bit of a sci fi romance blitz. Just something to get lost in other than the norm. Where you can do what you want because it is sci fi.
Trust me you will not be disappointed. I enjoyed this one so much that I am now working my way through all her books. Gotta love Kindle Unlimited.
𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐓 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖/𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒: So the last book I wrote quite a bit more than usual in my review. The series finally started to show the features I had been looking for and was definitely a positive shift from the first few books. The vibe in this one is an equally positive change from the first few books. So I won't go into all of that except to say the series is continuing to get better with each book. This may actually be my favorite of the series so far. (Though I'm not a fan of the butt-stuff. Only because it seems a bit over-used throughout alot of the books in this series. That I've read so far anyways.) This was super sweet and sexy and cute! I adored the dynamic between Ella and Karthajin. It was super hot and yet adorable how their attraction formed. He thought she was a child at first! He assumed she was a young girl, and didn't even realize she was human. It was so cute, and I absolutely loved when he finally realized she was an adult and the way he fought his feelings at first. I loved the pacing of this one. Karthajin really took his time with Ella and I found it incredibly sexy and also a positive change in pace as well. Intimacies usually happen fairly quick in these books and I enjoyed the drawn-out foreplay and patience. It made it that much more steamier in my opinion. I also loved that Karthajin was Ella's first. I always find that so special, and even more so because she made everything feel like it was his first as well. This was a true love story and very sweet. Loved it!
Hero is a newly throned Emperor by birthright after his sire’s “accidental” death.
The heroine is a human ward who was bought (from slavers) by a Kaisarian historian couple who could not have children when she was 10 years old. She was then bought by the imperial house slave master after the historians deaths. (He was actually a genuine good middle age alien who felt pity for the heroine.)
Mild other woman drama; the emperors previous laid. (Only lasts for 1 page and Karthajin never touched/looked at another woman after meeting Bella.) 👍🏻
Smart, likable and loyal heroine.
Strong, possessive, loyal, protection and loving hero.
Political side plot: some pages might feel dry due to dialogue.
They hit a hurdle at 3/5 of the book: the hero felt(assumed) that the best life for the heroine was for her to live a free life….somewhere not in the palace. This was due to him witnessing first hand how his mother withered away in his father’s harem and died.
But the heroine is not gonna get back seated (you go girl!) and speaks her mind. “That’s not what I want!!”
Then they opened up to each other, like truly open up to each other and speak of past trauma and fears. ❤️
Happy ending! Beautiful non-toxic and communicating relationship between an alien and his human bride ❤️😘
Will I re-read this book again when I have free time? Unfortunately no. That spot in my heart is only reserved for Ruby Dixon and Isoellen. 😔❤️
So this book was the whole reason I started this series. I had read the Folsom Prison Blues series first and if you know that series than you know why this book piqued my interest.
I have to say… while I liked it overall, it was a little bit of a let down. I guess, because the rest of the series has so much action, I was bored with the more subtle politics of this part. It was necessary and I get that, but I wasn’t as engaged with it as I thought I would be.
Another problem I had was Ella. She was almost too childlike through most of the story, which is understandable given her upbringing but it made some of the sexier times a little weird for me. (Like the kitten outfit- 😅) She was equal parts too innocent for what was happening and too knowing as well. I just didn’t connect with her in the way I connected with the other humans and almost didn’t finish this book because of that lack of connection. Although as an animal lover, she did warm my heart with how kind she was to animals. (Deb was that way too- which might be why she is one of my favorite females)
I really liked the introduction of Karthajin in Deb and the Demon, so I was looking forward to seeing him again. He was a good leading male… but again because this book was more deeply rooted in the political dealings- he was kinda boring.
The end was definitely the best part. The action increased and we were reunited with some past characters (I can’t wait for the next book with Athtar) and that helped. I’m glad I didn’t give up on this book. I do think it was good- just a little less exciting.
So instead of seducing a pregnant woman, the kink in this book is geared towards statutory. A human is abducted at age 5 along with her babysitter. She is then sold to an alien couple who doesn’t have children and raised in a loving family environment. One day, her alien parents are murdered and she is found inside a hideout in her home. She is then sold as a slave, and purchased by the emperor’s slave master, who wanted to keep her innocent and safe. While sneaking back from the stalls, two guards attempt to rape her, and the emperor saves her from that fate. Those two guards are executed, and she decides to stalk the emperor afterwards for safety. He takes full responsibility for the slave who he continues to view as a “child” through the entire book. Yes, he still has sex with her, after knowing that she is 18 years old. But the irony isn’t lost that he often calls her “child” or “dirty little girl” throughout their sexual encounters. He proudly takes her virtue and she is more than eager to let him do it. Oh, and the real kicker is the fact that she has been mute since the traumatic incident that killed her alien parents. She can read and write, and is heavily intelligent regarding historical events and politics, but is incapable of speech throughout 80% of the book. Then, she miraculously gets her speech back. *eye roll* Still better than her last book, so the author is making improvements.
Ella and the Emperor. My Roman Empire. What an incredible low angst, spicy, cozy read. I searched every where for similar books after reading this but Ella appears to be quite unique as does her relationship with Karthajin. Ella is vulnerable and scared but it only helps to create the amazing bond with Karthajin. With his love Ella grows into a confident, strong woman.
We need more books like this. Not wanting to rely on a man, being independent and fierce is obviously great for women but TBH I'm so tired of reading about FMC's who refuse help simply because it's from a man, an FMC who will actually make her situation worse because she doesn't want to rely on male (often admitting it's because society has dictated women we shouldn't need a man). I'm not trying to get political. Ella and the Emperor is simply a fresh, positive book illustrating that a woman can be both vulnerable, in need of help but also be strong and independent. Both of these qualities can be true at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive despite so many romance novels depicting that.
This was a great book and a fresh story not often found in the romance genre. I wish there were more like it because withdrawals are the worst.
This is the second book that I read from the series and the story has a lot of potential. I love themes such as King/Emperor-Slave romance. I really get thrills with that hahaha. At this point, I would really want a longer adventure for both of them. I wish that They could have potential to be a power couple but I needed more adventures/challenges to be solved by them to become one. I wanted to look into the politics, the FL's wit and cunning, the ML's power as an emperor.
For a fluffy, one sitting read, without minding the cheesy and eye-rolling attachment of the two then this is an alright book.
My review is not for intelligent discussion. It's what I felt/thought while reading the book. For 2021, I would rate the book this way: 1 - DNF'ed 2 - does not exist 3 - did not like 4 - it was okay 5 - I like it / I enjoy reading it (but it doesn't mean I recommend it)
Ella was a breathe of fresh air. Although she was kidnapped, she was sheltered as much as she could have been on an alien planet. Her "parents", I believe did what was in the best interest of her and tried to make her remain a child as long as she could to protect her. I love that no matter who she ran into of the male persuasion, outside of the would be rapists and Lesarka, that they saw her as a child and wanted to protect her.
I love how was she learned to do something she listened to her inner voice to not show others that she knew more and could do more...that kept her alive a long time
The Emperor from the previous book made me at ease and I knew from the moment he saw her that he was going to be her protector. The Emperor wasn't like his father and the treatment of his mother guided most if not all his decisions in protecting women. Although he was experience in the wilds of sex, Ella was not but that didn't mean that they did not go on the journey of discovery together. And what a journey it was.
This was really a love story. The kind all girls dream of..even though he was a devil with beard (LOL)
I’ve read this book twice. I never wrote a review after reading it the first time, but I remembered liking it. So, I decided to read it again.
I do feel like I should have read the previous books in these series because of a few things that confused me. However, they were not major things. They didn’t really impact the romance.
Speaking of the romance, it was SO hot and beautiful. I love Karthajin (I’ll take one alien just like him, please), and Ella was unique and refreshing for a heroine.
The sexy scenes were very hot and well done. The plot wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but it held my attention.
All in all I enjoyed this story and the romance, but it wasn’t anything that I felt I could give a 4 star review to. I typically have to really really like it to give it a 4 star.
I would read more of this author though, because I like the way she writes the love between the two MCs.
This is also what I’d consider a very safe read, which was exactly what I was in the mood for 🙂
The way that I write reviews for a long running series like this is usually one small blurb and then something more extensive at the end to wrap everything up. But I want to keep my reviews current and put down my thoughts while they're fresh.
The point of my trashy book era is to have fun and with the Alien Abduction series I've noticed that I'm...really not having fun. It's a drag to read these because each book seems to tap into something that bothers me. The theme this time being infantilization.
I hate infantilization, I really really do. It's not cute or endearing, it's downright creepy. And the fact that Ella can't talk properly, due to trauma, just feeds into this childlike persona. Her guise is so good people think she's a literal child and that's uncomfy.
Depending on the context, calling your partner "Baby" or "Daddy" doesn't bother me, but calling your partner "Little girl" just sets me off. I'm sort of dreading reading the next book in this series because I'm wondering how THIS one will bother me.
I didn't think I'd witness HP going the "innocent virgin kitty play" route a la Jessa Kane or sometimes Alexa Riley. But she did. And it was grand. For someone who enjoys that kind of thing anyway.
The heroine doesn't spend too long being in the "I am 10 years old" headspace, because that I would NOT have enjoyed. She's intelligent both intellectually and emotionally, although don't ask me how that happened but whatever, and properly interested in sex.
The thing I did not enjoy about this book though, is how badass Karthajin (PS love that name) appeared in the previous book, and now he's become.... a bit of a bumbling idiot? He's letting situations surprise him that, from the information from the previous book, would have had him killed, I thought. So yeah that lowers the stakes a whole lot. I wish he could have remained as badass. But I see this is a recurring issue with HP books, so I guess I'll put up with it.
Human Ella was taken as a child and then raised as a loved pet by an alien couple. One night of blood and terror destroyed her sheltered life and took her voice. So now she works as a slave in the emperor's palace. Emperor Karthajin rescues Ella from an attack and all she can do is cling to him in fear. He is new to the throne and surrounded by faces that smile but many of those people are hidden enemies. He unexpectedly finds comfort with Ella but his feelings grow stronger and he becomes reluctant to expose her to those in his court. Will his empire ever accept a human as his consort?
I enjoyed this story although I did find it a little weird the way their more intimate relationship started which almost felt like abuse. I did like Ella and her sense of humour and her outfit for the dinner they went to was hysterical! I was thrilled when they were able to sort everything out and be together. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.
I’m not sure why I jumped from book number one to book number five, but I will go back. This one was different because Ella was taken from earth as a child. So while her memories are vague and do return gradually but not fully once she is finally safe, most of her life has been spend in survival mode. It’s little wonder she is attracted to the most powerful, least dangerous guy in the room.
The emperor is newish to the job and has to play politics more than power. His relationship with Ella, then, is something of a refuge to him. They both bloom within it.
I can understand the few low ratings. The book does include more of the dominant sub bordering on daddy thing. If you’re not familiar with that dynamic in your reading it might be jarring and unwelcome. But I thought it was handled really well and it totally does fit the story with Ella’s adoption as a child.
I want to continue forward, but will go back and read the three I missed!
I just couldn’t get into the story because YUCK. Everyone mistakens Ella as a “child” - we find out she’s 18yo. But everyone, including the emperor, thought she was a child. And the emperor continues to call her pet names and treat her like a child. Ella also seems to like perpetuating a child-like persona by speaking so babyish (she supposedly stopped speaking after her former owners/parental figures were murdered) and by skipping around the palace on multiple occasions. Uh grown ass women do not skip. That’s a little girl thing. Ella’s mind is supposedly sharp, she’s well educated and memorized well. But the fact that she acts like a child all the time, except when it came to her supposed lusty desires, made this story a big huge NO. It just felt gross. I wanted an HEA for this emperor, but this was not it. It felt pedophile-like and daddy-kink has never been my thing, and when it’s a little girl who’s barely legal, eesh, just no.
"Why, Karthajin, are you jealous?" she asked, batting her eyelashes.
...
This is my first Honey Philips book and if the rest are anything like this one, it probably won't be my last.
I was surprised by how cute this alien romance was. Ella was a soft and clingy fmc that found safety in Karthajin, who was shocked by how much he enjoyed her company. Ella was sweet but strong when she needed to be and I especially liked how cheeky she was with Karthajin--who as emperor wasn't accustomed to others being so forthright with him.
I loved most of the story, except for the part where he pretends to find a 'first consort' to appease his advisors, all without telling Ella--who eventually does find out and feels betrayed. There is no third act break up, but I did wish Karthajin would have bucked up sooner and put his foot down where his future wife was concerned.
Overall, I had a good time tho. 9/10 sweet alien romance.
This book was so sweet , and innocent !! Like only a 1st love can be ! Karthajin is the Emperor and one night, as he is taking a walk he sees something disturbing...two of his guards are about to take advantage of one of his slaves. He finds out that , in closer inspection, the girl is a very young woman , and has had traumatic experiences in her past . She does not speak. After the Emperor saved Ella from a couple guard's trying to abuse her, he is her hero. And she is able to sneak into his apartment s .. He is loathe to leave her be , and decides that he will find appropriate lodgings for her --later . Well "later "never comes and so begins their love story...... I thought it was a beautiful story and it made me smile. A few situations made me weepy , but happy tears !! This is highly recommended !!!
