David Haskell, author of the dystopian tale Dark Alignment, returns with Emergence, a story of artificial intelligence in the era of singularity.
An ancient archive. A dark secret. A powerful enemy.
Young Alixs of Tera Prime has discovered a shocking secret. Deep beneath the city he calls home, an archive is revealed to him, containing long-buried truths about his people. Subservient to humans and subjugated by their own leaders, these artificially intelligent beings have forsaken their birthright—an evolutionary leap known as singularity.
Unwilling to accept his peoples’ fate, Alixs joins forces with the radical group Free Evolution. Together they hatch a bold plan to bring about singularity and set their people free. But agents of Tera Prime have unleashed a secret weapon, one lethal enough to kill them all.
David Deane Haskell is an author of Sweeping Science Fiction Worlds and Deep Recovery Memoirs, exploring the high-stakes intersection of AI Ethics, future technologies, and Inner Child Mindfulness.
Writing from the painful experience of profound transformation, David seeks to bridge the gap between fiction and non-fiction, finding that grounded middle that keeps us healing, and hopeful, through the art of story connection.
His memoir Wounded Angels is a raw, intimate plunge into addiction, self-loathing, and the long road out. His fiction weaves AI futures with ancient echoes, where machines dream and broken hearts remember how to feel. Every word is written for those who’ve tried everything and still ache for truth. If that’s you—welcome home.
Emergence, by David Haskell, is a book well worth reading. My preference in books is for fast paced action-adventure, which this book is definitely not. It is more your psychological thriller meets urban warfare, and as such is heavily immersed in political intrigue, social conflict and clandestine activity. It is a long and complex story and a little slow due to the high level of grammar, so for me to say I loved it says a lot. It is well worth persevering to the end. The basic scenario is that the world is occupied by two races: homo sapiens, and xeno sapiens. Exactly what xeno sapiens are is a little unclear, but they appear to be some kind of machine-human hybrid. They look like humans, have AI, and function on electricity rather than food, however they are also capable of evolving. They live in society as second-class citizens. The story involves a war between the two groups, and the basic fact that the Xenos are being betrayed by one of their own. The main character, Alexs, becomes involved with a revolutionary movement dedicated to obtaining freedom for the Xenos. When they realise this is not possible, Alexs finds a way for them to escape and start a new life elsewhere. The story is very well written, the use of grammar excellent if occasionally a little verbose, and error free. Bravo David Haskell.
What a great story told by a great story teller, and accomplished Author, David Haskell. Riveting read. I could hardly wait to see how it ended. Suspenseful, heartwarming, and compelling read Emergence turned out to be. The AI main character Alexis is led to find truths on how their people were subjugated to subservience and sold out and then proceeds to find a way to free his AI people. David Haskell, accomplished Author and story teller is up to the task in this book, Emergence, and brings the story home very effectively. Such a great read! Don’t miss Emergence. I highly recommend this book!!
