About the author

Dale Carnegie was an American writer and teacher of courses in self-improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. Born into poverty on a farm in Missouri, he was the author of How to Win Friends and Influence People (1936), a bestseller that remains popular today. He also wrote How to Stop Worrying and Start Living (1948), Lincoln the Unknown (1932), and several other books.
One of the core ideas in his books is that it is possible to change other people's behavior by changing one's behavior towards them.

يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن فن الخطابة والإلقاء، اسلوبه عصري وكذلك أفكاره، بلا شك ستجد الكثير من الأفكار والأساليب التي يمكن تطبيقها، بحسب شخصيتك وما يتلائم معها.
أكثر من سيستفيد من هذا الكتاب.. طبعاً من دخل مجال يتيح له التحدث أمام الجمهور على المسرح مثلاً، ولكن لا يقتصر عليه.. فكل ما يتطلب الأمر مجموعة من المستمعين تكون أنت المتحدث الرسمي فيها.. وقِس على ذلك.... فالمعلمين الجدد بحاجة إلى هذا الكتاب، أو حتى من كانت له خبرة ، فهو لا يخلو من الأفكار المبتكرة التي قد تكون جديدة حتى على من يمتلك خبرة في مجاله، وسيستفيد منها كذلك الطلاب في المدرسة أو في الجامعة، فقد يُطلب منهم أحياناً عمل عرض تقديمي أمام الطلاب.. وسيستفيد منها الجميع بشكل عام ..
الفئة التي تحتاج لقراءة هذا الكتاب أكثر من غيرها، كالطلاب في الجامعات بشكل خاص ولمن يلقي خطاب على المسرح، يمكنهم الاستفادة بمجرد قراءة الفصل الأول من الكتاب فقط وتطبيق ما جاء فيه، فقد وضع فيه الأسس والطريقة الصحيحة للتحضير لأي موضوع .. وذلك لمن كان على عجلة من أمره، على أن يقرأ ما بعده في وقت آخر.

هنا وضعت بعض الأسئلة قد تساعد في معرفة ما إذا كنت بحاجة إلى قراءة هذا الكتاب أكثر من غيرك :)
السؤال: هل تريد احتراف فن الخطابة والإلقاء؟ هل تحب إن تكون متميزاً في ذلك؟ هل أنت معلم وبحاجة إلى تطوير مهاراتك، أو هل تخطط لتكون معلماً؟ هل طلب منك معلمك عمل عرض تقديمي أمام الطلاب؟ أو أن تعتلي منصة المسرح لتلقي خطاباً!! ...

This audiobook offers a high level look at some valuable (albeit somewhat common-sense) public speaking tips. This seems to be based on Dale Carnegie content but is described in relevant terms with modern examples. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it makes me feel that the "Dale Carnegie" name is used more in spirit than in content. I'm more curious, now, to read one of his original books to see what he actually had to say on the issue. I should note that this audio book is focused on "public speaking" more so than "presentation skills" as large portions focused on capturing the attention of one's audience and inspiring them to take action. In my world of work, many of these ideas are not relevant for most presentations. Regarding the format, given that this is an audio-only publication, I found it annoying the way that the content was broken up into very short sessions that constantly encouraged me to "join" the narrator in the next session. I felt like I was watching a television program with commercial breaks. Also, there was an annoying musical interlude that seemed to amount to about 10% of the overall audio content.

خلاصة عمل السنين الطويلة، قامت مؤسسة ديل كارنجي بإعداد هذه الكتاب المميز "قف وتواصل" وهو خلاصة حلقات تدريبية وخلاصة نصائح أحد أعمدة و رواد التنيمة الذاتية، ديل كارنجي صاحب الكتاب الشهير " كيف تؤثر على الأخرين وتكسب الأصدقاء" و "دع القلق وإبدأ الحياة".
في 240 صفحة، وفي إثنى عشرة فصلاً، يقدم هذه الكتاب كل الأدوات المساعدة لتصبح " متزناً، ومثقفاً، وبارعاً " و لبناء خطاب متكامل الأطراف. فإن أبرز فصوله تركز على أساسيات الإلقاء، ثم التغلب على رهبة الجمهور، والتي تشكل أهم مخاوف الأساسية المعروفة، والإنتقال السلس إلى أهمية إستخدام روح الدعابة لتحصل على تواصل متميز مع الجمهور.

يجيب الكتاب في أول فصوله على السؤال التالي: ما هو المبدأ الذي إستخدمه جميع الخطباء البارعين منذ قديم الأزل ؟
يعبر المؤلف هذا المبدء في جملة واحدة فقط هي " معرفة ما تتحدث عنه" فإن عليك معرفة مادة حديثك بحيث تصح جزء منك، فلا ينبغي أن تكتفي بإمتلاك بعض الخبرة في موضع خطابك فقط – بل أن تتقنه. فإن إتقان هذه المبدء يعني أن تسعين في المائة من خطاب قد جهز. كما إن الفصل الأول يضع مبدأ أخر لكل خطاب مؤثر في جملة قصيرة أخرى وهي " الإختيار الحكيم للكلمات"، يجب أن يشعر جمهورك بأن ثمة رسالة تصل مباشرة من قلب المتحدث وعقله إلى قلوبهم وعقولهم(الجمهور)، ولن يحدث ذلك إلا بإتقان ما تتكلم فيه وبحسن إختيار الكلمات.
ويختم الفصل الأول بالقول بأن " الخطاب المؤثر في متناول يد الجميع ما دمت على دراية بالعقبات وطرق إزلتها".

ما ينبغي على كل خطيب معرفته
ما ينبغي على كل خطيب معرفته .. إن الإعتذار للجمهور، في بداية أي خطاب، يعد من أسوء الأمور والأخطاء للخطب المؤثرة، فإن الإعتذار لا يقنع جمهورك بأنك متواضع، لكن إذا أردت أن تظهر تقديرك للجمهور فالسلوك لأفضل هو أن تندمج معهم.
ما ينبغي على كل خطيب معرفته .. لا تجعل خطابك مثير فقط، إنما إجعله الأكثر إثارة على الإطلاق.
ما ينبغي على كل خطيب معرفته .. بأن جمهورك يحتاج أن يشعر بأن الخطاب موجه له "وحده" ليحسن الإستماع لك.
ما ينبغي على كل خطيب معرفته .. أن تواصلك بعينك هي الطريقة المثلى لتضمن إنتباه جمهورك وتركيزه.
ما ينبغي على كل خطيب معرفته .. إن ستظهار خطابك "كلمة بكلمة" تعد فكرة سيئة.
ما ينبغي على كل خطيب معرفته .. أن إطلاع جمهور على عدد النقاط التي تريد تغطيتها يكسبهم الشعور بأنك منظم ومستعد، كما إن العدد ثلاثة يعطي إنطباع سحري فلا تتعدى نقاطك – خطابك - الثلاث نقاط.
ومن المبادئ الأساسية هي أن تعلم إنه "سوف تدرك أن التصرف على سجيتك، وأن تكون نفسك، هو أولى الخطوات وأهمها على الإطلاق في أن تكون متحدثا مؤثرا" هذه الجملة هي عصارة الخبرات لمؤلف ديل كارنجي.
لا شيء يجدر الخوف منه سوى الخوف نفسه
أربع أمور مهمة لأي شخص يريد أن يتقن فن الخطابة بأسرع فرصة ممكنة، أولا الرغبة القوية والملحة في التحدث والتواصل مع الجمهور، ثانياً، المعرفة الدقيقة، قبل أن تتحدث في أي شيء عليك التحدث بشيء تعرفه بكل دقة، بمعنى أفضل، أحمل رسالة ما ثم اعتبر نفسك رسولا مكلفا بتبليغها. ثالثاً هي مبدأ رئيسي وهو الممارسة ثم الممارسة، فما يتتطلبه فن الخطابة ليس هو الشجاعة إنماء الهدوء ولن يحصل ذلك إلا بالممارسة. رابعاً، هي عاهد نفسك على التخلي عن إصدار الأحكام على الخطاب أثناء إلقائه! وذلك عن طريق تذكير نفسك بأن لا تدع رد فعل جمهورك يؤثر على أدائك، ركز إنتاهك على المسرح وليس على الجمهور، كن أنت المرسل وليس المستقبل.
فمهمتك أن توصيل ما قمت بإعداده وإحساسه والتدرب عليه، هذا كل شيء وهذا كفي.


روح الدعابة الفعّالة ..
"كن أنت نفسك النكة" هو النظام الأسرع في فن إستخدام روح الدعابة، هو أن تبدأ من نفسك ثم تستطيع السخرية من الأشياء الأخرى، عندما تسخر من نفسك سوف تكسب أعجاب جمهورك؛ لأنهم سوف يشعرون بأنك إنسان مثلهم معرض لأخطاء كما إنهم سوف يعجبون بك لأنك قادر على الإعتراف بالخطأ.
إستخدام روح الدعابة في الخطاب ينغي أن يكون توضيح رسالة الخطاب لا لأجل الفكاهة فقط، بالدعابة الفعّالة هي التي تلائم الجمهور ومحتوى الخطاب.

الفوز بالدقيقة الأولى ..
البشر هم أكثر المخلوقات فضولاً على وجه الأرض، لهذا من العناصر الأساسي أي خطاب هو أن يكون الخطاب مهماً وذات قيمة للجمهور. هنالك الكثير من الطرق لإثارة الفضول في جمهورك كأن تبدأ بالنتيجة، وتجعل جمهور يتطلع إلى الإستماع للسبب. كما إن من الطرق اليسيرة هو تقدم شيء مادي لكي ينظروا إليه، ومن الواضح إن أوثق طرق إثارة الفضول هو المناورة بسؤال.

إصنع الخاتمة من خطابك.
الخاتمة الجيدة للخطاب هي التي يخطط لها بعناية. لا تقل أهمية خاتمة الخطابة عن مقدمته. فإذا كان غاية المقدمة في إيجاد صلة بين الخطيب والجمهور فإن الخاتمة هي لأجل أن يتذكر الجمهور الخطاب والخطيب إلى الأبد.
إذا كان يجب ألا تبدأ خطابك بتقديم الإعتذار، فلا تختتمه بالاعتذار أيضا، في خاتمك، اختتم خطابك بأسلول يتناسب مع باقي الخطاب، على سبيل المثال، لن تكون متوازناً مع الجمهور إن ظللت تضحكم طوال الخطاب، وبعد ذلك تصدمهم في النهاية بعبارة مشئومة. فكر في عبارة تلخص خطابك في أقل عدد ممكن من الكلمات – عبارة تظل راسخة في أذهان الجمهور ليس لفترة لا تتعدى الوصول إلى موقف السيارات، وإنما تظل لفترة طويلة في المستقبل. فلا تعرض فيها فكرة جديدة، ولا تجعل خاتمك طويلة.

يحمل هذا الكتاب الكثير من الأساليب والطرق التي تجعل الخطيب والخطاب " متزناً، ومثقفاً، وبارعاً " فقبل أي خطاب يجب أن نـ"قف" لنفكر فيما ينبغي أن نتحدث في ثم بشكل فعّال ومبدع نـ"تواصل" لهذا كان هذا الكتاب عصرة سنين التفكير والتدريب والتأليف لهذا كان هذا الكتاب " قف وتواصل".

I picked up Dale Carnegie’s Stand and Deliver when I joined Toastmasters, hoping to smooth out my jitters and organize my thoughts. I can't recommend it enough for fellow Toastmasters and anyone who wants to connect more powerfully when they speak.

The book is not just about projection or gestures; it’s about transforming your fear into genuine connection. The book’s method is refreshingly practical. Carnegie breaks public speaking down into a learnable skill, not a innate talent. He fills the chapters with stories of everyday people—nervous engineers, timid managers, who found their voice.

His central idea is that a speech is about sharing something you genuinely care about with people you want to connect with. One piece of advice that stuck with me is the "speech skeleton." Carnegie says to never write a speech out word for word. Instead, just jot down your main ideas and speak from the heart.

Here are some useful ideas from the book:

* Talk about something you know and care about. Passion is contagious.
* Never memorize a speech. Work from a simple outline of your key ideas.
* Be yourself. Let your personality shine through; people connect with people.
* Get your listeners involved. Ask questions, make it a conversation.
* Practice, practice, practice. Out loud, in the mirror, for a friend.
* Concentrate on your message, not on yourself. Your focus outward, not inward.

Really good, pragmatic book on public speaking. Applies as much today as the day it was published. The ideas are tangible and easily applied in your next speaking engagement. A good mix of basic and advanced public speaking concepts, with a few ideas I'd never come across before. I would recommend to anyone who does Public Speaking often or for a living. This book will not help you that much if you are doing just one speech. These are life long skills to be test,ed and re-tested until you get them right.

Recomand cartea asta oricui, fie că vrei sau nu să ții discursuri în public. Este o carte plină de informații și de lucruri interesante, lucruri care te pot ajuta să te dezvolți ca persoană. Și cine știe, poate ți se va trezi apetitul pentru public speaking. Am rămas plăcut surprinsă la finalul cărții, aflând poveștile emoționante ale unor oameni de succes. Totuși, cred că va trebui să reiau cartea de la început, ca să înțeleg mai bine anumite aspecte și să mă pot dezvolta în acest domeniu, public speaking.

Don't know why I decided to read that, but I have had it for a long time, so I figured I should go through it. It's super frustrating though, the course could have been halved if they removed the music and didn't try to summarize a point they have JUST TOLD YOU ABOUT in 1 minute. What? Why is that necessary? On a few occasions the summary was longer than the point or it felt like it.

Why the 3 stars? It has some useful advice for ABSOLUTE beginners. I am not one of those, so I have barely learned anything, but that doesn't mean the course is bad. It isn't, but it's frustrating for sure.

Although not written by Dale Carnegie, his team did a good job of basing this book on the paradigms of this teaching when comes to public speech, making impression on people but mostly, the level of self-awareness that drives us to go forth. It is not big, read it in one day, made many valuable notes as well.

The narration In this book is not what I expected. I expected for a formal and a very straight forward points to make me a good orator. But ...we are always at awe when it comes to Dale Carnegie. The man is a genius .The narration is simple, to the point, I felt like I was listening to this talk on Amazing delivery. Somedays I would read for hours. Real awesome stuff here and will blow your mind.

Another good one from Dale Carnegie. Always gives actionable and applicable tips. I changed 3 presentations I was building slides for while reading this book, they were much more effective!
