Omg this book is sooo worth starting and finishing in one day, and that's exactly what I did!
It's amazing how a book can capture you and hold on tightly into a journey of someone else's. A journey filled with the sun, the sand, the ocean, surfing, hot guys, hot girls and even burritos to die for. This is quite fun and adventurous!
Harley is a young girl in school, a surfer girl who lives mostly in the ocean than in her own small home. She has always loved surfing, and it's her escape from a mother who doesn't care for her much. But her life becomes even more interesting when she meets a sad and lonely looking rich pretty boy on the beach.
Aidan has everything, a good family, a good school and some good friends, but he lost his first love and due to this, his grades are falling and his swimmer scores are going low. He feels disappointed in himself for not winning medals in swimming like he used to. But one encounter at the beach with a feisty and independent surfer girl changes his entire perspective.
Harley and Aiden come from very different social worlds, Harley from the working class, and Aidan from the upper class. And yet when they are together, all that disappears and they can escape with the waves. But will there social worlds collide and force them to leave one another, or are they willing to give whatever they have a chance?
You'll instantly fall in love with many of the characters, Harley and Aidan are cute and wonderful. Even Jed, Harley's Best Male Friend (BMF) is super funny and great! But there are also those annoying characters that you learn to love/hate!
You can't miss this series. If you love the beach and flirty fun adventures, this series is for you!
Beach party! Teenage love and drama -- which really was fairly entertaining. Some diverse characters: the haves and the have-nots. The first book ends on a happy for now for some characters and questionable beginnings for others, while there's one life hanging in limbo and a "that boy" whose identity is yet to be unveiled. That's enough to keep me coming back for more while a beach war is ongoing. Surfs up!
Harley was a freshman in high school, she boyfriend was a senior, she was in love, he dumped her. Aidan's girlfriend told him she was bored with their relationship and broke up with him. Harley has sworn off boys, and then Aiden walks onto the beach where she surfs. She offers to teach him to surf, Aiden accepts her offer, but soon realizes that Harley has become more to him than just his surf instructor. With a lot of determination on his part, and once Harley learns to let go of the past they will get a chance to have a relationship. Teenage drama, and a mysterious attack on a classmate, I think this is a fantastic must read. Fascinating, unique, and beautifully well written characters. I loved this book!
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and nonincentivized review of this ARC.
This was very summery and it read really quickly, so it’s great for the beach. And was it cringey? Yes. But I found it very entertaining and I really liked the main character. This book does use the word chick a concerning amount of times though. And it had an annoying cliffhanger. I most likely will not continue with the series.
Oh, what can I make of this one? It’s not bad, but it’s not good either. The writing was okay. Not a big fan of the language. I also didn’t like Skylar or the sexual references made about her and her boyfriend. Thankfully, they didn’t happen as often as in the last book I read.
I won’t be going forward with this series. I may check out Ford in the future but at this time I’m not going out of my way to add her to my TBR.
Over the Falls is the first book in the Ryder Bay series, and it's one I can't wait to continue. It is full of those extreme feelings you can only get when you are young, plus hardships, and a dash of mystery. I have read 'Dear Diary' and loved the insight into Harley. I'm glad I don't have to wait until book three to find out what happened in her past, and yet I am totally thrilled to find out how she moves forward. I've already found some of it out in this book, but I just know there is so much more to come.
The characters are all extremely well-written, whether you like them or not! There is one in particular who I think I know what happened, but don't want to say anything yet, because no doubt Jordan Ford will put a twist on it, and I shall be wrong! 🤣 The situations are all completely believable, the conversations are natural, and the relationships are perfect - whether they are new or have been there for a while.
I devoured this book in one sitting. After I started it, I just couldn't put it down. With a slight cliffhanger ending, it has definitely left me wanting more. I will absolutely be continuing with this series, and have no hesitation in highly recommending it.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *
Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Jan 16, 2019
I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
As soon as I heard about this series I was excited about it and looking forward to this new series by Jordan Ford. And that pretty cover made me even more curious. It didn't take me long after I received my copy to start reading. Over the Falls is a great start to this new series and while it wraps up the romance plot line in this book, there are some open threads and characters that I hope to see in future books. It's a great set up for the rest of the series and makes me curious about future books.
Over the Falls is told from dual point of view from Harley and Aiden. Aiden hasn't had the best few months, he lost his enthusiasm for swimming, he used to be number 1 and now he's falling further behind. And his girlfriend broke up with him and he's in a bit of a slump altogether. Then he meets Harley who offer him surf lessons and things change for the better. I enjoyed seeing him change things up and find a new course for this life.
Harley is used to being on her own and that suits her just fine, but something about the rich boy Aidan gets her attention and her best friend comes up with the idea to offer him surf lessons. And maybe she is ready to let someone else in after all. I enjoyed getting to know Harley and seeing her get the courage to let Aidan in after guarding her heart so fiercely.
I liked both Harley and Aidan. They were great to read about and likable characters. Aidan is used to having success and now that he losing he is feeling lost. His passion for water and swimming turned into something with pressure on it and the surf lessons help him regain that passion. Which was great to see. And over the course of the book he figures out a possible new direction for his life. It was great to see him get out of his slump and how he grew to love both surfing and Harley. I am still a bit annoyed at something he did later in the book, but he does apologize for it.
Harley has this fierce and tough personality. She is used to being alone. Her mother is away a lot, smokes and drinks and doesn't seem to care much about her. Her previous relationship ended in disaster, although we never get the full details about that, it is clear it shook her faith in people even more. She seem to be doing great and is independent and knows what she can rely on, namely herself. She finds her escape in the water. And then when she realizes maybe her existence is a bit lonely and she decides to let Aidan in, that moment was great.
I really liked Harley and Aidan together. It was fun to get to know them and seeing them slowly begin to care for each other and then fall in love. And you really feel Harley's love and passion for the water and surfing. It's awesome how the author brought that across. I also liked seeing the carefree and comfortable way those interacted both in and out the water. I enjoyed seeing them fall for each other and slowly work through their issues.
Besides Aidan and Harley, there's a fun cast of side characters and other events going on. I actually started guessing possible couples for future books and from the note at the end of the book I guessed one right at least. There's a plot line surrounding Skylar that doesn't get resolved, but will probably continue in later books, which already sets this series up to have some nice continuity throughout the series. I also like how the author didn't turn Aidan's ex into a villain, but instead made her real and relatable. They just weren't right for each other. I didn't like Savannah at first, but by the end I was curious about her story.
There also was a short hint to the short story The Christmas Gift which sort of served as a prequel and introduced the Rydar bay setting. You don't miss anything if you haven't read that story, but it's a nice touch for those who did.
To summarize: I really enjoyed this book, it's a great start of this series. I liked both Aidan and Harley and how they had their own struggles and were so different, but perfect for each other. A chance encounter brings them on each other's path and Harley offer Aidan surf lesson and slowly they grow closer. Harley's love for the ocean and surfing really comes across. I also liked how both of them found their way and overcame some things. There are some interesting side character too and I am already excited for the next book. I am glad the author didn't turn Aidan's ex into a villain and instead made her a real and interesting character. I had fun reading this book and am eager for the next one.
I will forever be grateful to Jordan Ford as her books rekindled my love for reading. I love how relatable and realistic her sorties are and how easy it is to fall in love with the characters. Her books have been able to hold my attention for the duration of its length and this one is certainly no different. It also always amazes me that despite how many novels she has produced, she has managed to make each story different yet intermingle with each other. While the same themes are present throughout each series, the plot differs to the individual book. With Over the Falls she works with a whole new cast of characters, using a time old tale of a rich boy falling for a girl from the other side of the tracks. While this sounds cliche, i love the way in which she presents it. Harley is a spitfire. She is not afraid to speak her mind even if she may regret it later. Aidan on the other hand is strong, but moping because of his recent breakup. When these two personalities collide the result is quite intriguing. Not only is the plot interesting and makes the reader want to continue to read, but I think this book demonstrates one of the most important qualities of love, bringing out the best in each other. While many of Jordan Fords posses this quality, this one does so in a new light. Harley is a great girl but she is a loner (at least when she is surfing). She isolates herself for the most part and when she doesn’t talk with others it usually revolves around the subject of surfing (aside from her best friend whom she is very close with). While she is written with other attributes, it does seem to be a major element of her character. Even in their initial interaction her fear is present, "He’s a human teenager. A rich human teenager. An Elite. Why do I find that so damn scary? I don’t want to be intimidated by anybody" While she certainly does bring Aidan out of his bubble, I believe that he does to her as well. He forces her to confront other people and pop her protective shell of only confiding in her best friend. For Aidan, he learns that its okay not to be the best (struggled with falling behind the ranks in swimming) and that all you really need is happiness. "I’ve got sand, sun, surf…and Harley. Of all those things, she’s the only one I really need”. This book possesses fantastic character development, not just for these two characters but for others such as Savannah (Aidans ex) as well. Im very excited to see how the future novels in this series interact and highly recommend reading this book!
A new series about two teenagers, from different social and economic backgrounds, who live in the same town, but have never crossed paths before until one of them ventures to the "wrong" side of the beach.
After his girlfriend breaks up with him and he places 4th in his swim meet, Aiden isn't quite up to hanging with his usual crowd and takes a ride to the "other" side of town where he has a chance encounter with a surfer girl. She's cool and completely different from his ex, cousin, and pretty much every girl he knows. When she offers to teach him to surf, he begins to realize that maybe his tanking in the meet was a way for him to see that there are other options and that the ocean may be where his heart truly lies. Things get complicated when both of his worlds collide.
Harley just wants to surf. Every spare moment she has is spent on the water, but life has a way of impeding her efforts. From school to work, there just isn't as much time in the day to feel as whole as she does when she is on the water. When she meets Aiden, she realizes that she may be able to make some money doing what she loves with a hot guy looking for a diversion from his suddenly unhappy life. After having her heart broken, she is determined to keep things strictly business, but life has a way of altering the best laid plans. As the two grow closer, his perfect life and her inflexible beliefs begin to interfere with the fun interactions and feelings developing between them.
On the one hand, it is that same old issue of two individuals from different worlds, one with wealth and other without, meeting and falling in love, but with strong opposition from family and friends. At least on one side. What makes this different is that for him, he begins to realize that what he thought he wanted, both in a relationship and in life have completely changed. Always a nice guy, but definitely blind to the fact that his life is actually really good compared to others, it takes a chance meeting with a girl who lives the complete opposite of him to shake him up. However, the same goes for her. Living a hard life, she doesn't let anyone get too close and definitely not someone that could potentially break her heart. It takes a really good guy like Aiden to open her eyes to the fact that not everyone is the same and that there just might be someone who is perfect for her.
One surfer girl from the south side. A hot, rich boy from the north side. Ryder Bay may be a small place but north and south are worlds apart. Harley has learned that she can only depend on herself in this world. Everyone else will eventually disappoint her, hurt her or leave. The water is her haven, the waves have saved her. Aidan lives a charmed life, loving family, wealth, good school. But he's hit a rough patch and can't see all of his blessings. His girlfriend broke up with him, he's lost his edge as a swimmer, and he seems to be a disappointment to his parents. Avoiding his life one particularly difficult afternoon, Aiden goes to the south side beach where his attention is drawn to a tiny blond surfer girl. When Harlow tells him he may need to 'change his water from chlorine to salt' and offers to teach him to surf, they both find a kindred spirit. However, with their growing attraction comes growing problems, a nasty cousin, an ex, dangerous locals, and a general clash of cultures. Can these two overcome their differences or should they each stick to their own; water and world?
Over the Falls is the first book in Jordan Ford's new sports romance trilogy. It's about discovering one's passion, worlds colliding, falling in love, having fun. Living. It's told in dual POV. The setting is superb. Harlow and Aiden's world is perfectly captured. The profound difference a small stretch of geography can make is highlighted brilliantly. One side is white, pristine, elite. Nothing but the best. A mile down the road brings color, variety, shabbiness. Life is more of a struggle. What the north and the south do have in common is the sun, sand, and sea. This is also what brings Harlow and Aiden together. The other thing these two have overwhelmingly in common is their age. Teens feel so deeply. The sense of failure, of heartbreak, of forever, is so strong at this age. The heart and the mind are at constant war. Emotions run so high. Joy, anger, hurt. Passions are so easy to trigger. These characters, their conversations, fights, feelings were so believable. They are weak, they make mistakes. They pick themselves up, they face their fears. It made them easy to love, easy to root for.
The side characters and family all add to the depth of this book. I loved the glimpse of a certain dark-haired pregnant beauty and her love walking down the beach. I look forward to answers. Answers about "that guy" and what happened to Skylar. Who was involved: Craig, Wyatt, Ripper? I want to spend more time with Harlow and Aiden. I want more surf time even if that includes Axel and his crew. I would like to understand Axel better. I want more Jed, the BMF and Griffin, the nomad. I suppose that I should include Savannah but I admit that I am not a fan. I didn't see the sweet girl everyone described and I'm not over the hospital scene. It's going to take time! It all starts with her trip to the grocery. She better play nice. Can't wait to see!
Un poco demasiado juvenil para mí, pero lo he leído bastante rápido teniendo en cuenta los días que no he leído estas últimas semanas y necesitaba algo de este estilo para desconectar un poco de todo, así que ni tan mal.
a great beach-y summer read. i liked of the north/south divide, and i love the characters. skyler is kind of a beach, but savannah seems sweet and of course i love harley and aidan. and love ryder bay. you should read
I'm so excited about this new series by Jordan Ford! I love the beach setting and the interesting characters. Axel and his crew are intriguing, which makes me curious to see if they will have any redeeming qualities in future books.
The shocking twist in Over the Falls has me eagerly anticipating The Impact Zone to see how the mystery unfolds. I loved Harley & Aidan's story, and I can't wait to see what's in store for Savannah!
*Read more of my reviews at Whoo Gives A Hoot* Over the Falls by Jordan Ford is the first book in the Ryder Bay series and once again I found myself completely captivated by her beautifully unique storytelling ability and phenomenal character development. This story was the perfect beginning to another incredible series and I was instantly hooked!
Harley and Aiden are complete opposites and they come from two different worlds, but their undeniable attraction slowly begins to connect them. Harley is a poor girl from the south side of town who loves to surf and she has no plans of falling for Aidan, the pretty rich boy from the north side who just broke up with his girlfriend. She continuously pushes him away, but eventually their connection becomes too real and the wall of her heart slowly breakdown. When their feelings begin to blossom there is no stopping the connection.
This was a highly entertaining story that I absolutely loved. Harley and Aiden's romance captivated my heart and I adored every part of their story. The cliffhanger was shocking and I have to say that this is a MUST READ and I cannot wait to dive into the next book, The Impact Zone!
If I can't go to the beach right now, I let the beach come to me ;). I actually bought this book because I was looking for something that is connected to surfing.
Aidan is a guy from the rich site of town. Harley lives on the opposite end with her single mom. While Aidan pretty much has all his door open, Harley struggles to figure out what to do with her live once school is over and money is always tight in her family. Her biggest passion is surfing. Through coincidence these two characters meet and Aidan takes up surfing lessons with Harley in the hopes to get his ex-girlfriend Savannah back.
Overall it was a decent read. The story was pretty much straight forward but it picks up at the end. I really liked Aidan. Harley was ok but I didn't like it how she went off with the summer job thing. In a way I liked her better when I saw her through Aidan's eyes especially when he described her love for the ocean and surfing. The thing with her ex also felt too repetitive. There are some cliffhangers at the end but it still had a satisfying ending (I hate it when a book ends in a way where it feels like you have to buy the next volume).
I liked it enough that I want to read the next one in the series and probably will get it at some point.
I really enjoyed this story!! It pulled me in from beginning to end with the characters and once started, I didn't want to stop. The story is very well written. This is a clean, young adult romance. We get to see both Harley and Aidan face some of their problems and learn more about who they are. Harley was hurt badly her freshman year and it turned her off relationships completely. She also does not have the best home life or example and so wants nothing to do with them. Aidan just got dumped and hasn't been doing great at his swim meets like he usually does. He feels like a failure and doesn't know what to do or how to fix it. Harley and Aidan end up running into each other and Harley ends up offering to teach Aidan how to surf. I loved the way that they developed their relationship. It started with friendship, which is exactly what they both needed at the time. We get to see them grow up some and mature and learn from what's going on around them. I would have loved to have gotten more of them, (especially together). Hopefully in the rest of the series we will continue to get to see them and I would love to revisit them later on as well! Overall, a fantastic read and I can't wait for the next one!
Harley is a very strong girl who has a huge passion for surfing and the sea, but doesn't let people in because she was hurt in the past. Aidan, on the other hand, is a boy who's suffering from a recent breakup and is also feeling like his whole world is falling apart.
Two teens that live in the extremes of town with a sea that got them together, making them share their lives and think that maybe their worlds are not totally different as they may believe.
I absolutely loved this book from page one. Harley is so cool I really want to hang out with her in real life. Also, her best friend (BMF) is so much fun! I so want to use acronyms now!
Aidan was the sweetest guy on earth in this book! He's so caring about his family, his friends and Harley. He just wants everyone to be happy and sometimes he doesn't see that he has to find his happyness as well. I fell in love with him in the same way Harley does.
This is a perfect summer read, full of sun, sand and beach. It also ends with a cliffhanger that makes me want to read the next book immediately! I highly recommend you to give it a try.
Harley and Aiden are from totally different worlds. Aiden comes from an affluent family while Harley is from the wrong side of the tracks with a neglectful mother. Her only escape is to surf the waves to forget her crappy life. Harley meets Aiden. He is a pretty young rich boy that she agrees to teach to surf. Aiden is determined to get back into next year surfing meet after his popular girlfriend dumps him after he lost the last one. Harley and Aiden start off bad; arguing about almost everything until they finally have a truce and they become friends and eventually something that can become something more if only Aiden's ex-friend, and his friends, as well as hers, do not get into the way. I really loved this book. I even bought it. Lol. It reminded me of the old teenage beach movies of the '60s but with more bite. It wasn't cheezy and sentimental. It was funny and romantic. A great start to a new series. I will be looking out for the second book of the series. I was gifted this wonderful book by the author herself as an ARC for an honest review. I am very grateful for It. A must read.
>Book review – Over the Falls >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st book in the Ryder Bay series and ends with an HEA for the relationship and a cliffhanger for the plot. This book is a rich boy/poor girl story with a mystery. Aiden is heartbroken after his girlfriend breaks up with him, causing him to go to the poor side of the beach. He meets Harley, a surfer and starts to pay her for surf lessons. The side characters are rich in this story. The surfer dudes and the party kids really help this story to come to life. >Aiden falls for Harley, despite how Harley tries to keep him away. She realizes she is way out of his league, but Aiden doesn’t care. There is a secret from Harley’s past, along with her lack of family, that will keep a reader wanting more. There is also some danger that is never resolved, so this book really sets up the series’ plot. This romance works in the beach setting and the characters are sweet, so the reader really roots for them. > This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. The romance is a slow burning, G rated romance, but very satisfying.
This is the start of another great series by Jordan Ford. The story has romance, drama and a bit of suspense and gets your attention from the beggining. Harley lives her life practically alone, having only one friend at school and dividing her time between work and her passion, surfing. But when she finds "Rich Boy" Aidan on her side of the beach, she can't stop thinking about him and how sad he looked. When Harley offered to give surfing lessons to Aidan, neither of them expected the feelings between them to grow and the attracttion getting so strong. While they have to deal with adolescence's problems, they also have to face the fact that they are from different worlds and even face the rejection of some friends and family, as is the case of Skylar, Aidan's cousin . The story is very interesting and the characters are great. I'm anxious to find out what really happened to Skylar. I highly recommend the reading.
Really clean and very teenage friendly. I loved how some very heavy topics were intertwined with the naivete of young minds. i love the process young adults go through when they are on the cusp of adulthood. They realize not everything is easy and you have to work for what you love. Aiden was such a perfect sweetie. You really couldn't ask for more in a boyfriend. Of course he messed up a little but that is to be expected, he is a teenage boy, don't forget. And I loved tough surfer chick Harley, she was the one who had the many difficulties to overcome, but being her awesome self, she managed to do it, and grew up because of them. I have already pre-ordered the second book and I can't wait for it to be out. Thank you!
Jordan Ford hooks me again with another great series, just wish I didn't have to wait till March for the next book. Adien feels like he has lost his way over the course of the year the final st as losing his girlfriend Savannah and the last swim meet of the year. He goes to the beach to clear his head and runs into Surfer Girl Harley who simple offer of teaching him to surfer will change both their life's forever. Harley has been hurt by the people she has trusted the most so she has put a giant wall around her heart, will Adien be able to breakdown the wall and reminder its ok to trust again.
Harley is a strong, independent teenager who believes that avoiding love and people is a safe way to stay unharmed. She had a bad experience with some guy when she was a freshman in HS and that really makes her fearful of falling in love. She doesn’t know who her father is and her relationship with her mother is distant. Aiden is a privileged boy that lately hasn’t feel so lucky. Swimming has become a burden and he has lost the joy because of the work that entails being part of the swimming team. His girlfriend just dumped him and It seem he can’t find his way to the winners lane. So fate collides these two souls and what you get is a beautiful story about friendships and love. You have so many questions at the end that you can’t hardly wait for the second book to find out what happened to Aiden’s cousin and what Savannah wants to speak about with Harley. Great book, lovely story.
I really enjoyed this book! I thought the writer did a great job describing each character, giving them personality and depth. I liked the storyline, young teens trying to figure out life while falling in love. There were some things left unanswered that I’m sure will be answered in the second book. I’m anxious to find out what’s going on with Skylar and what Savannah is up to as well as seeing Harley and Aidan fall more in love with each other.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next book. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves reading about young love and finding yourself!!
Two people from the opposite sides of the Bay in more ways than one. He's a rich boy and she lives on the poorer side of town. The surf is her escape from life and the thing that brings them together. These two characters had a connection that started as friendship and we watch their journey as they grow closer. Be warned you'll be left hanging as you wait for the next story to see what happens next. Great story so far, I really enjoyed it...even though I hate cliff hangers lol.
Over the Falls is the first book in this new young adult trilogy. It’s about two teenagers who live on opposite ends of the bay and come together through surfing. I thought this was a good start to the series. There was conflict, love, and mystery. There were unanswered questions, but at the end you can download a prequel short story, and I highly suggest that you do. Just be aware that this is the first book in the trilogy. I can’t wait for the next story.
I LOVE this book! A great story that draws you in right away. Harley and Aiden’s chance meeting pus them where they’ve never been before: in each other’s sphere, and it sets the stage for a heartwarming romance and a story to savor. Can’t wait for the next book in this promising and addictive new series!
