If you are an interviewer or a biographer please do not forget to ask about the interviewees “favorites”.

I have read so much on Johnny Carson now, which is why I am reading this book, yet I do not have the faintest idea what his favorite books were despite knowing he was an avid reader.

Knowing someones favorite books, movies, songs, etc provides insight into their make-up and professional lives.

This cultural curation gives us through-lines to our intellectual past that we lack without it.
Everyone has a “Canon” of works relevant to who they are. I wish I knew Carson’s.
