‘Fear is pain arising from the anticipation of evil’

California co-author Beverly Knauer earned her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison then moved to San Diego, California, where she served in the role of Chief of Rehabilitation Services for the County of San Diego, working with other occupational and physical therapists who provide therapy to children with special needs. She continued her education with a master's degree from San Diego State University. ‘I've always loved exploring esoteric wisdom and chose to become a writer to communicate transformative life experiences in the form of visionary fiction. California co-author Murray Rosenthal is a world-renowned, board-certified psychiatrist, researcher, and lecturer. Even after a thirty-year career as a psychiatrist he’s managing a farm in Fiji and mentoring young entrepreneurs in the medical arena. He thrives on adventure and travelling and through his travels he has seen firsthand the profound changes our planet is experiencing, and he feels an urgency to rectify the situation. He has been a lifelong science nerd, especially in regard to up-and coming technologies.

The learned authors include some fine thoughts from famous people during this adventure about where earth is headed, quips such as ‘The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.’ – Nikola Tesla. ‘Why should the Earth be the only planet supporting human life? It is not singular in any other respect.’ - Albert Einstein

It is the inclusion of scientific data and philosophic excursions that make this absorbing novel of the possibilities of the future of our planet more grounded than most paranormal cum sci-fi books. It is that fine admixture of fantasy and reality that we are all witnessing at the moment – wondering if the EPA will persist and whether government can include survival issues among the diatribes of attacking and manipulating social media

The authors’ summary of the novel follows: ‘Volcanoes are erupting. Wildfires are scourging entire towns. Earthquakes are toppling cities while tsunamis drown the land and its people. With a series of terrifying disasters, Earth seems to be on a crash course to destruction. But why? What's causing it? Will civilization survive? Pepper this intriguing tale with statements such as ‘Just because you haven’t found an explanation for something doesn’t mean it didn’t happen’, and ‘If you want to find the secrets of the universe, young man, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.’ And ‘‘When something is ‘in the light,’ there can be no fear, no darkness. We have the power to help heal the Earth to lessen the difficult changes it’s going through. You’re here to help guide people by shining your light. Your role is to help heal the planet and to awaken and motivate human beings who are living in the dark to keep them from self-destruction. You can help others to see their light.”

THE EXIGENT EARTH stands among the more important psychodramas of late – the story is beautifully crafted, the characters and situations are mesmerizing, and the kick-in-the-gut message is one the reader will not forget.

A Captivating Mix of Science and Fiction!

I love science fiction and the world of nature and animals, and this book offers me both, including a white mystery horse to keep me reading. But this is far more than just an entertaining story. There’s a message that will leave an impact on readers long after they’ve put the book down.

When Nikolai Sparsinsky discovered a unique way to create energy, he had no idea how much it would impact his future—or that of Earth’s.

Enter Zac…a “child of light.” Raised in the plains of the west, Zac quickly displayed unusual gifts. Nature was drawn to him, especially animals, and he could communicate with them. Now, with humanity at the edge of disaster, he may have to use those gifts to save the world.

The characters are compelling and very three-dimensional, offering up the opportunity to cheer for and lament with them along the way. Weaving a thread of social awareness into a provocative, page-turning thriller, the co-authors have combined the best of both worlds to bring us readers a story that will keep us turning pages long into the night.

The authors, an environmentalist and a self-pro-claimed “science nerd” bring us vivid details of the world as they see it from years of study—a world we must love and protect before it’s too late.

This well-written book combines nature with science, mysticism with logic, and delves into a future that looks like it might be more reality TV than science-fiction. Highly recommended!

Zac Sparkman is not your average man. Son of renowned scientists Nikolai and Virginia Sparkman, he has a remarkable mind and a natural talent for scientific exploration, but that is not all that makes Zac unique. Since he was in his mother’s womb, he has exhibited special powers which seem beyond explanation. The older he gets, the more these powers grow—and the more strongly he feels the impending doom looming over mankind’s shoulder. Will he be able to warn the world of disaster before it strikes? What happens when his powers attract unwanted attention from the U.S. government? Most importantly, where do these abilities come from, and what do they have to do with the secrets behind Nikolai Sparkman’s research?

I am an avid fan of speculative fiction. As a result, I have high expectations when I pick up a new novel in this genre, and fortunately, The Exigent Earth did not disappoint. This novel has something for almost any kind of speculative fiction fan, from genetic manipulation and interstellar travel for science fiction lovers to seemingly-supernatural powers for those with a more supernatural/paranormal inclination. The authors even incorporate elements of Native American wisdom, showing that the tribes’ deep connections to Mother Earth work with, not against, the advancement of modern technology and using it to better the world. All of these elements are woven into a nearly-seamless plot that is both engaging and thought-provoking, one of the most important traits of good speculative fiction.

The Exigent Earth also contains engaging plot twists and diverse but relatable characters. The book uses a mixture of subtle-but-impactful plot twists and major, jaw-dropping turns, thus keeping the reader interested without overwhelming them with too much chaos and confusion. Intriguingly, the characters are similarly varied in both their personalities and their backgrounds. It’s a breath of fresh air to see a range of ethnicities, religions, races, and nationalities in a speculative fiction novel and just as refreshing to see different perspectives represented. Yet even with a wide range of plot points and character types, nothing is introduced without a purpose. Every twist, turn, and character serves a purpose, not matter how minor it might seem at first, and in the end, everything comes together for a satisfying ending, albeit one which is realistically open to other possibilities.

The only qualms I have with this book focus on the first couple of sections of the novel following the prologue. In these sections, a lot seems to go too smoothly and/or falls into place too easily. The plot points feel rushed and, at points, borderline cliché, a fact which is not helped by characters mentally noting how serendipitous certain events in their lives have turned out. Furthermore, the characters’ thoughts and dialogue have a tendency to try and provide too much foreshadowing which, in some cases, muted the effects of plot points further in the narrative. This technique could be a result of wanting to show how some people can have inexplicable insights into the future, but it usually just subverts the plot twists.

Overall, The Exigent Earth is a well-written, insightful novel with a crucial message. Given the current state of affairs, I think that we need stories like this now more than ever. The plot is compelling, the characters are (for the most part) realistic, and the themes are very applicable to today’s world. The first couple of sections might be the weaker part of the book, but the rest of it is worth getting past anything too coincidental or predictable in the beginning. Fans of speculative fiction, especially those concerned with climate change and the suppression of scientific advancement, will want to get their hands on a copy. However, if you do not like reading about climate change, distrust of the government, or secret scientific advancements might want to pass on it.

This is the third novel written by Knauer that I had the pleasure of reading, and I was waiting for its release with keen anticipation. Speculative fiction and plots that contains elements of magical realism have always fascinated me, and this novel captivated me from the very beginning. What sets this novel apart from what I usually expect from this genre is how easy it was to suspend disbelief when diving into the world Knauer and her co-writer created. In this day and age of climate change reading a story that chronicles human greed and its catastrophic impact on the environment instills the reader with hope that a character like Zac would emerge in real life, listen to and interpret the Earth’s whispers, and with his special powers lead humankind to a future of salvation and redemption. Knauer weaves the story seamlessly with the glittering threads of tension, culmination and resolution, ensuring that each part contributes to the whole, and that each new chapter keeps the reader hooked to the unfolding story-line. A deeply satisfying read.

Using a favorite theme in science fiction of “what if?” into a “why not,”authors Beverly Knauer and Murray Rosenthal have crafted an out-of-the-box science fiction story that may at first seem to be impossible, yet when you think about it, you are probably going to shake your head at the end of your reading and say, why not?

What the authors have done is to build on a theory advanced by Nikola Tesla, a Serbian-American inventor, and futurist, who is known as the father of scalar energy and who experimented with and created inventions using scalar energy. For those of us who are not familiar with scalar energy, myself included, it is defined as subtle energy that can be harnessed to produce healing energy frequencies that are beneficial to our health.

One of the principal characters in The Exigent Earth: Recently Placed On The Endangered Species List: Humans Dr. Nikolai Sparsinsky, while living in the Soviet Union, uncovered secret, powerful, and fundamental principles of energy, which was an adaptation of Tesla's energy system. He decided that he would not introduce his discovery to the world at large until he was free of the Russian regime.

Eventually, with the help of his future wife, Virginia, who was a geoscientist, he emigrates to the United States where he changes his family name to Sparkman and sets up a laboratory built into a mountainside in the Pryor Mountains of Montana. The US and Israeli Governments sponsor the building of the lab and his research work. Nikolai and an Israeli colleague, who had helped with the construction of the lab, mistrusted governments, and thus they also build in a hidden cave another lab where Nikolai would conduct the secret part of his real work, which would not be divulged to the sponsoring governments.

Among Nikolai's experiments was the discovery where a healthy cell would be able to cure an unhealthy one. As we learn, this was a theory that “Einstein spent his remaining years of life trying to solve by attempting to tie together all known phenomena with the intent to explain the behavior and nature of all the energy and matter in existence. In other words, essentially unlocking the secrets of the universe.”

As the narrative unfolds, Nikolai dies before the birth of his son Zac leaving Virginia to care for him with the help of a Native American, Olivia. Unfortunately, Virginia also dies and Zac, who is now six years old, is raised by his uncle Brian and Olivia, both of whom play important roles in his life. It should be mentioned that through the voice of Olivia, the authors insert another theme into the narrative and something to ponder, the value of spiritual concepts such as traditional wisdom and shamanic healing.

Referred to as her “Child of Light,” Olivia informs Zac that he has an important mission in life. Olivia explains to Zac that “long ago ancient civilizations told about a prophecy-that's something they believe is coming in the future-about some important changes that will happen to our planet Earth. These changes are happening now, and he is here to help people.” Olivia further tells Zac that she is here to help keep his light shining as he possesses a special gift.

It is this unique gift that eventually will cause him all kinds of difficulties with government authorities who are watching his every move as they want to know if there were any experiments that his father had hidden from them and if Zac was carrying on his father's research projects. Was he in possession of any notebooks, papers, tapes and other writings that belonged to his father?

Due to my lack of knowledge with much of the science incorporated into the story, I have to admit that the reading of the novel was at times demanding. Nonetheless, the authors did enlighten me with explanations that made sense. Moreover, they did their research and did not take shortcuts in explaining much of the theories integrated into the plot and the world they created. Kudos to them for also creating a setting that becomes part of the plot and seems real enough to accept along with the action and everyday lives of the characters.

Slowing building suspense with its twists and turns, this absorbing novel weaves together some thought-provoking content that in the words of one of its authors, Beverly Knauer, “will expand the mind and imagination.”

A fascinating and thought provoking passionately written science-fiction story.

This outstanding book sends out a powerful and very strong message to its readers. Woven into a fascinating science-fiction plot is the fact that we are stewards of the world, its fate, and ultimately our own is in the hands of everyone. Mother earth is a strong spirit with incredible ways of protecting herself. Everyone is accountable, and can make a difference. As it says in the book “People must understand that it isn’t up to someone else to save them. Their power is within and always has been.”

The story opens with Virginia Sutter a multilingual geologist and writer deciding to attend a conference in Zurich by Nickolai Sparsinsky a reclusive Russian scientist. Neither Virginia, nor Nickolai could have imagined that the decision would change both their lives forever!

Its love at first sight, and it isn’t long before Nicholai manages to escape Russia and relocate to America. It is in Montana that they meet a young 14 year old Indian girl called Olivia, who even so young possesses special healing powers. An instant friendship develops and Virginia invites Olivia to live with them on their ranch in the Pryor Mountains.

There Nickolai builds a laboratory set into the mountains. He is passionate about his research and the icing on the cake comes the day when Nickolai reveals proudly to his wife that there is in fact another secret lab. Taking her there he explains the full potential of his achievement in successfully turning on higher energy states at the cellular level. Although elated, both are very aware that his breakthrough can help mankind, but it also worryingly has the potential to be weaponised in the wrong hands.

Nickolai’s tragic death soon after his revelation sends government officials flocking to the ranch desperate to discover what the talented scientist has been working on, but the secret lab isn’t discovered. Unaware, the officials after ransacking the lab leave with plenty of paper, but the secret it safe.

Soon after, Virginia enters the secret lab alone and something happens. Then, it isn’t long before Virginia discovers that Nickolai will always be with her both in her dreams and also in the form of the baby growing inside her.

As soon as he is born Olivia calls him her ‘Child of Light.’ Zac is no ordinary baby, and afraid that his abilities will be noticed, the women do their best to protect him. However, not even Olivia can shield him from the cruel events of life, and it is a sad orphaned boy who finds himself travelling with Olivia to Vermont, to live with his uncle Brian.

As this amazing story progresses the bond between Brian, Olivia, and Zac grows. With Olivia’s spiritual guidance, and Brian’s enthusiasm and dedication Zac grows into an intelligent young man. Then, a meeting with his father’s oldest friend, opens doors for Zac into his father’s world. Finally understanding his research, an incredulous Zac, through it, and his mother’s guidance in visions, finally realises his role in life.

As natural disasters leave the planet desecrated and the death tolls rise, the government wants him discredited but the people love him. What will destiny hold for Zac, Olivia’s Child of Light, and the planet we all take for granted?

Murray Rosenthal one of the authors is a world-renowned, board-certified psychiatrist, researcher, and lecturer who thrives on adventure, and lives with his wife on Lake Tahoe. Whilst his multi-award-winning co-author Beverly Knauer is a retired chief of rehabilitation services, who now enjoys writing stimulating novels. Her two previous works are the visionary ‘The Line Between’ and ‘The Soul’s Hope.

This is an exciting story, passionately written. With space travel, biological weapons and incredibly thought-provoking content it really does makes compulsive reading – Highly recommended!
