The concept of this book is too stupid for me. Corporal discipline doesn’t work between employee and boss, and he only spanks his female employee but his male ones are just talked to. So basically a woman is too stupid to learn through words and must have ‘the rules’ beaten into her? Power exchange in the name of kink is fine, but you can’t bring your kink into the workplace, especially at a ranch. You also have to read between the lines in the blurb to understand that she is being spanked while not being involved in a personal relationship with the MMC. It’s not very transparent as to what this book deals with. Overall dumb idea for a book and totally too unbelievable for me to read further.

A bit disappointed
I love cowboys especially kinky ones but this was a little odd for me.
I very rarely DNF a book but I had a hard time from the beginning. Who disciplines colleagues by spankings?
Not that I'm opposed to a spanking but they didn't even know each other.
Sadly I had to put the book down. I might revisits this ranch just not today.

What a wonderful, exciting and intriguing story. Carly is a horse woman. She wants to escape the city and starts working for Keith. She wonders why there are so many rules and why she can't ask any questions. In fact, the first time she is punished it is for asking questions. She soon finds out that there is a good reason why.
Besides the off the charts hot chemistry and love scenes between Carly and Keith, what I loved most about the book was how the horses were treated. From the way Miss Carpenter describes the handling and care of the horses, there is no doubt in my mind that she knows what she is writing about. I ended this book with a very happy sigh and I hope that Andy and Salvo will get their own story.
My favorite quote of this story, because that's how I felt when I read certain parts of this wonderful tale:

There story keeps you interested with mystery, an unknown villain, hot cowboys, and steamy bedroom scenes. It's one of those stories were the main characters(Keith and Carly) instantly fall into lust. As the story line develops, so does their relationship and there is more to these two than hot sex. I would have rated this book higher but the spanking scenes were too weird. Come on, what employer would use "Spanking" on an employee--Especially bare bottom! The intrigue part of this book gets desires 4 Star, but due to the employee/employer "spanking scenes" over-all rating 2.5.

This is book one of the Taking Charge: Blazing Romance Suspense series and the main characters are Carly Kincaid, who has arrived at Dream Horse Ranch for a job interview, and the elusive Mr Keith Parker, the boss, who has some very strange rules that must be obeyed by all employees on the ranch. There are clauses in the contract that mean no questions can be asked about the boss, the ranch, nor can anyone talk about anything to do with the ranch with anyone outside of the ranch. But the weirdest clause and one that gives her a bit of a shock is the one that describes old-fashioned discipline for any breaking of the rules or errors in the role, such as being late or making a mess! Carly was fed up working with horses in the city, where their welfare wasn’t to the standard she hoped and it was too noisy and busy. This ranch sounds like her ideal position, helping with the horses, training and riding them every day, with what sounds like a very close knit team. There are high levels of security for this ranch, unlike any she has seen before. Keith has a huge secret he is keeping and he has avoided any sort of romance for quite some time, as he tries to make the ranch and the horse training program start making a profit. He also has almost a double life, having to do the job role his father expects of him, even though horses have been in his blood since his mother first introduced him to them. He has never wanted to do anything else with his life.
She is given the chance to read through the whole contract and NDA, before signing it, with Elsie the housekeeper bringing her some refreshments and a light lunch. She then gets shown to the cabin the former rider had, Sandy, who manages to meet her back by the barn to see the horses. Andy is the manager and trainer, but she doesn’t get to meet him for another couple of days. She gets told off when trying to unload her tack box, for her own horse that she is allowed to house at the stables. That is one rule broken on her very first day, as any heavy lifting is supposed to be left to Andy and Salvo, the stable hand, to avoid her being injured and unable to train the horses! This leads to her first punishment and she is shocked, but also a bit excited by the prospect of it, especially coming from the sexy Keith, who she is crushing on a bit. She knows she has to stay professional to keep her job, but that soon gets quite hard to do! When a bad storm suddenly picks up after she has been at the main house for dinner, Carly has a bad accident on the way to her cabin, but it seems like a guardian angel was looking out for her in more than one way! This accident makes Keith act completely out of his norm and he can’t help but worry about Carly who he has clearly fallen for, no matter how much he tried to hold it in. All of his other staff kinda knew he had feelings for her and with Carly injured by the accident, he won’t leave her alone.
The damage from the storm means he needs some extra hands to help fix things up, one being the very cabin Carly was staying in, leaving her staying in the house with him, Elise and Andy. Elise has her own close connection to Keith, as well as her own reasons for being on the ranch. She has a tragic story of her own where her love life is concerned and she blames Keith’s father for it, believing he was behind what happened to the man she was about to marry. There is an enemy looking to ruin Keith’s life and they are getting closer than expected and could ruin everything that Keith has been working for and hurt those closest to him! Lots of steamy romance with a bit of BDSM punishment going on, as well as loads of danger, secrets and surprises being kept, but soon to be uncovered. Fantastic read and really enjoyed finding out what the secrets were and who was behind the convoluted revenge plot! Also a nice touch of a guardian angel and a mother’s love, shining through the storyline. I look forward to reading more of this series and other books by this author. I enjoyed this contemporary western story that has mystery, suspense, secrets, and romance. Once again, Ms. Maggie Carpenter takes her readers on an amazing adventure that includes secrecy, deception, commitment, trust, dominance, and submission. Not only did I enjoy the cast of characters, but the camaraderie between human and horses.
Carly Kincaid has an amazing passion for horses, and her ability to command and control, becoming one with the horse, makes her a unique individual. She is tired of living in the city and working in large horse barns, finding an ad for Dream Horse Ranch, it will become a dream job for her. Carly is sassy, and plenty of spunk, but can submit when she needs to.
Keith Parker is a very private and secretive man, but he has his reasons. His ranch has state of the art surveillance, high fencing, and is located out of the way. It garners him his privacy to do what he wants, raising and selling quality and sought after horses. He has only a few regular employees, Elsie to take care of the house, Andy is over the horses and barns, and Salvo takes care of the grounds. When Sandy leaves to marry, he will hire Carly.
The plot will have Carly interviewing for the position, and she must agree to sign binding non-disclosure contract, but she is also instructed not to ask any questions or face the consequences. Keith believes in corporal punishment or immediate dismissal, While Carly pushes the issue, Keith will prove he is a no-nonsense man and spank her for asking questions. He will tell her; this is my ranch, my rules. When Carly breaks the rules again, she will find herself in more trouble.

Cowboy is the first book in the Taking Charge: Blazing Romantic Suspense Series by Ms. Carpenter. Keith is a ranch owner with a love of horses and an extreme desire for his privacy. Carly has a deep love and understanding of horses, is curious by nature, and has a serious crush on her boss. When Keith and Carly come together due to a bad storm, their desire is strong, but he’s keeping lots of secrets and Carly just wants to help. Trying to keep everyone’s trust and not break any rules, Carly has to figure out her roles on the ranch, and when danger comes knocking, can she keep everyone safe?
This book has been on my to-read pile for a while now, and I’m so mad at myself for taking so long to read it! I loved it! There was enough banter to keep the mood light, enough secrets to keep me intrigued, and enough passion and chemistry to keep me turning pages to find out if he was going to spank her, or love her! Carly was so honest and sweet and curious and really had a helping heart. Keith was dominant without being overly alpha, and definitely cared a lot about those around him! I loved the little mystical impacts of his mother and I really enjoyed all of the supporting characters! While I know this series isn’t interconnected, I do really look forward to the next book and will not delay reading one of Ms. Carpenter’s books again!

This story has many exciting moments that I did not anticipate.
There were many twists and turns right up until the last page.
Keith Parker is living his dream as the owner of the Dream Horse

she has to sign a non disclosure form and ask no questions about
him or his ranch.It is not long before Carly's curiosity gets the better

Carly have their own secrets but they do not affect their growing
relationship.I think Keith is my favorite cowboy.He is strict but oh so
sexy with many tricks and kink to send Carly into orbit.There are
not many characters in this book but they all play an important role
and add to the mystery of the plot.The dialogue,scenery and characters
feelings pull you in to this well crated story.Keith and Carly were so easy
to fall in love with and I enjoyed their journey together.The story includes

This is a good erotic romance. The chemistry is off the charts. “You may find a better rider, or a person with more experience, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone more dedicated to a horse’s welfare than I am.”

When she walked in, her beauty took his breath away. He started with his go to the first question. “Tell me why I should hire you?” Carly surprised him. He liked her moxie and she was the most qualified candidate.

Keith and Carly's communication seemed to be slightly robotic. There was no emotion, no warmth. It's weird. The words were there, but no real feeling existed between them, at least, not to me. The thing is that I liked the story. There was a certain magic to it. Carly even had this great sense of connection with the horses. Keith had it with everyone but Carly. Their relationship felt forced to me.
Andy, Salvo, Elsa all generated some sense of emotion or connection when they interacted with each other, Carly or Keith. Even the villain felt villainous or evil.
I have read many of Maggie Carpenter's books, but I have never had this experience before. I would probably go with a 3.5 star rating if possible. You should read this book and judge for yourself.

He has rules and she likes the punishment....a match made in blazing hot heaven
COWBOY: His Ranch. His Rules. His Secrets is the first book in the TAKING CHARGE. Blazing Romance Suspense series. This story is from 2017 but it is still a good read today, in 2022. If you love your cowboys super alpha and always in charge then Keith is the man for you. As it turns out Keith ends up being the man for Carly when she goes to work on his horse ranch. Keith has a lot of rules which must be followed and if you break them you better be prepared for the punishment, and that just sparks the whole thing off.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Wow love this book
First book read from this author thoroughly enjoyed it love horse love romance put them together perfect. Keith who owns the dream horse ranch is looking for a new stable hand he wasn’t expecting Cary and the instant attraction to her. He is secretive of his life not allowed to ask questions not to tell anyone about anything on the ranch however Carly seems to have forgotten that rule and is punished as her contract says only thing is she loves it and the man delivering the punishment. This is a story of love, secrets and horses loved this book you won’t be disappointed enjoy

Excellent story
This story has a bit if everything I like in it, BDSM, Horse training, private jets, action adventure, a few mysteries to solve and bunches of fun discovering each other. I always feel like there are some stuff that I wish was different, in this story the BDSM side could have been expanded a little I think... but its good for the story. The Key is the main star and its possible connections to a special ghost. I like a wee bit of supernatural in a story. The Horse farm and the main girls riding ability is excellent, I really felt like I could be her. Excellent read for any Horse enthusiastic person.

An entertaining story.
A lovely, scintillating tale. The characters were interesting and full of surprises. The story moved along at a nice pace with some fascinating twists and turns. My only complaint was a few editing issues, but sadly that seems to be a common issue with most books these days. This one is better than many. Otherwise, an entertaining story with a satisfying ending.

This contemporary western is full of karma, fate, twists, and turns, intrigue, and a HUGE mystery. Maggie Carpenter introduced us to Keith, including his crew at Dream Horse Ranch, and the exercise rider he received an application from named Carly. The instant attraction was almost palpable even from a reader's perspective. I love the way outside forces maneuvered circumstances and decisions that needed to be made. Ooooh, and the clause in her contract. Absolutely delicious.

This was a decent read, but I couldn't seem to get invested in the characters. The connection between Keith and Carly was too fast considering Keith was all about secrets. The idea of withholding this particular secret from someone you profess to love seemed contrived. I understood not wanting the general public to know. But Carly trusted him enough to engage in kink, I would have liked to believe Keith should have been able to trust her.

I liked the book, the characters and their passion. I liked most that the author knows her material and what entails with ranch life, its horses and the people who live on the land. A lot of rules ( obviously) , many spanking scenes as a result and too many chances for the spark between Carly & Keith to be stronger. Worth reading.

I struggled through this book. The main characters were fairly unidimensional, I never warmed to Keith, the sex scenes seemed to be scattered randomly throughout the story without adding anything substantial to the supposed developing relationship, the need for secrecy appeared a little thin, and the ending could be summarized as “everyone lived happily ever after”. Much as I like cowboys I may need to try another series by this author.

Romance with a cowboy is any girls dream been brought up around horses this books speaks to me and in was impressed with the knowledge of the author about them and mentioning Monte a horse whisper a nice touch. A good book with no cliffhangers and a good finish what is not to love? Bravo to Maggie Carpenter.

Who doesn’t like a hot, sexy cowboy who knows what he wants and how to get it?
I really liked this storyline. There were twists and turns and surprises around every corner. The characters interactions felt real and so sexy. Heath was so stern and firm while Carly was a curious minx. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

This book is a great read. This story about a rancher with secrets and the bold, free-spirited woman that comes to work for him is a hot, sexy page turner with some mystery, suspense, and plenty of steam in the form of spankings and kinky sex. I loved it. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Cool characters, got sex
This is the first book I've read by Maggie Carpenter. Now I'll probably binge like crazy. Characters feel like real people, even with more money than most. Like the fact that the sex is secondary to the plot, so it didn't read like porn to me. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just a fun read.

Her plots just flow & her characters are so real with such down to earth dialogue that you wonder if they sprung from her imagination or just wonderful events from her past. This is true for all her books - they're all 5 star reads! ♡

Carly A Gift From A Mom
Carly is a natural horse whisperer, she instinctively knows what the horse needs. Keith is the ranch owner that hired Carly to show his horses ton potential buyers. This is there story as well as the other members of the ranch. Awesome, sweet story. I loved the magic that gave this story a unique spin. I read this through the KU program.

Brilliant
This is the third book of Maggie Carpenter's that I've read and every one has been a story that's left me struggling to put the book down and I so LOVE the epilogues and how every last detail is covered. There's nothing worse to an abrupt ending to a story leaving questions still running through your head. Maggie is a very talented author. Xxx

This book was so fantastic. I started it this morning about 5am and I just finished it at 11:55pm. It is such a great book I just could not put down. I love reading BDSM books and Heath and Carly were great.
There was nothing in this book that I didn't like.
I would definitely recommend this book to my friends. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

This is the first book I read from this autor and let me tell you that I loved it! All the emotions I felt reading this book were ridiculous! Such a good book with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. Amazing job! If you love romance or suspence this is definitely a must read!
