For an immortal, learning what it means to be human can be an emotional wild ride.
Having put down the latest batch of escaped doppelgängers, Sere Mal-Laurette felt she’d earned a little time off from demon hunting. She was wrong.
Her inattention has allowed a new batch of hellions to rise from the swamp and abduct Rampart Thibodaux. With the hot ex-Navy SEAL’s blood and soul infecting her, Sere has no choice but to jump back on her motorcycle to rescue him. Her quest will cost her dearly but also bring her closer to being human than she could have imagined.
Sere’s emotional roller-coaster ride of human experiences, however, is overshadowed by the rise of a new devil—one who isn’t satisfied with simply claiming hell as his only domain.

I’m dancing around cheering Hell's Highway because…because…it finally HAPPENED! Wait, I’m getting ahead of myself here. Let me back up a bit. So you can obviously tell I’m excited about this book. Lot’s of action (Snorts! Action!) to be had here. And oh the secrets that come out!
I’m really undecided if the true high point of the story for me was rescuing Bart, who gets kidnapped, or when Sere finally finds out the real truth about the doppelgängers leaving Hell. Holy cow both storylines had me on the edge of my seat. I think I’m leaning towards Bart’s rescue because FINALLY Sele and Bart bump uglies. SQUEAL! I have been waiting for this moment since they first met. And it was worth every nail-biting, Kindle throwing frustrating waiting moment. Sighs… Now that THAT tension has been released, and released, and released, Sere can get back into the game of figuring out what is the deal doppelgängers.
Hang on to your hats because the secret behind the doppelgängers is a doozy! The search for the truth is quite the bombshell for Sere and her gang as well as for the reader. Everything moves at a fast-exciting pace that made it so hard to put this book down. Sere is really growing as a person now, having to ask for help, working with others, but mostly having to experience the loss of a dear one. *Sobs* I guess I shouldn’t have expected for everything to run on a high. There had to be a low, and this low ripped my heart out. I’m not ashamed to admit I cried when this vital character died. Death happens to all but when it’s a character that you really like, it sucks.
Action, adventure, emotions and secrets, Hell’s Highway has got all that and more. It’s getting to the point when I see a new Sere book is coming out, I clear my calendar so I can binge read. I know I need to go back and read The Malveaux Mysteries series so I can learn more about this whole world, but I think I’ll wait. I want to see how The Devil's Daughter series plays out. Then I’ll go back, start from the beginning and hopefully, see Sere in a whole new light.
This series gets better with each book. Of course, that may just be because I'm getting to know the characters better, but for now I'll chalk it up to more layers being revealed. Speaking of which, Hell's Highway requires your complete attention. There is a lot of information to take in and even though I'm giving readers a heads up, I'm still not sure I got it all. In other words, I see a re-read in my future. ;)
Sere's come a long way since Hell in a Head Gasket, the first book in The Devil's Daughter series. She still wants to protect the people she cares about, but she's learned to lean on them just a little bit.
So, saying that a lot happened in Hell's Highway would be an understatement. The connection between Sere and "Bart" grows a lot stronger. The goals and true purpose of the doppelgängers leaving Hell becomes clearer. And yes, there was heartbreak that took me totally by surprise, so prepare yourself... *sigh*
Hell's Highway didn't necessarily end in a cliff hanger, but things are far from over for Sere and her rag tag family. I can't wait to see what G.A. Chase has in store for them next in Hell or High Water. Oh, and for those of you who (like me) weren't introduced to Sere in The Malveaux Mysteries series, the full book bundle is now available on Amazon. You're welcome ;)
I received Hell's Highway in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the 3rd installment of the series and I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying it. In this book, Sere learns that demons have kidnapped that handsome hunk of ex-Navy Seal that she lovingly refers to as "Bart". With the help of her friends both new and old, Sere manages to rescue Bart from his captors, but loses a dear friend and one that is not so dear in the process. In this book we see Sere working more with her real and see that Jennifer is a great help to her. What is going on with Sere, she seems to be experiencing more human type feelings, is it her connection to her real, is it the blood that she got from Bart or something else?? Sere and Bart finally hook up!! Lefty makes an appearance and seems to have made a new friend. Speaking of that new friend, the one criticism with this book that I can think of is the demon named Doodlebug....I just can't honestly take that seriously LOL. This book delves deeper into how Sere became Sere, how she escaped Hell and how and why these demons are escaping. Now that Sere knows who is behind the escaping demons, she has to set a plan to stop it from happening. She will need all her allies; human, demon, reals and dopples to work together. Can't wait for the final chapter it should be a great showdown!
This is the third book in Mr. Chase’s Devil’s Daughter series, and poor Sere is up to her ears in trouble. This time it looks like there are 12 demons to take care of, but things are not what they seem. This time, she uncovers the reason this keeps happening: a conspiracy to make another immortal like her. I really like Sere’s character, and I really enjoy seeing Myles and Kendall as side characters in this series. This latest installment is just as enjoyable as the previous ones, but I do admit this one has a little less action than the others. There was a progression in a storyline I was happy to see, but I can’t say much as I don’t want to give away spoiler! I am eager to read the next book in the series to see what everyone will get up to next. I recommend this book, and I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
Sere had hoped for a break after sending the last group of doppelgangers back to hell but when Bart is kidnapped she has no option but to rescue him. What she finds on this mission are real emotions for Bart and she is unsure what to make of them. This mission could be the costliest of them all.
The sizzle heats up between Sere and Bart in a way that Sere had only imagined. When Bart infected her with his blood the connection became something that no one on the team expected. The characters in book 3 of the Devil’s Daughter series have developed and become something that you can relate to. Power is the ultimate want of evil and one of the most powerful and old families of New Orleans is no exception.
Some really funny parts, a wonderful adventure, and even a sad part, not what I was expecting at all it was even better except for the sad part.
Sere and Bart are truly becoming a kick-ass team. Sere is slowly learning to let people in and what all the emotions around letting people close to her are I love watching her growth as a character she is still a bad-ass demon huntress but now she is Bart's bad-ass demon huntress and he is her partner in every way, in their line of work it pays to have at least one person you can trust implicitly.
A great fast-paced story with unexpected twist and turns I am even more excited to see where the next story leads us.
In this 3rd book in The Devil's Daughter series. The task at hand is becoming more apocalyptic in a sense. Sere definitely has her work cut out for her, with the help of ex navy seal Bart and her new sidekick Fisher with additional allies. Sere definitely has to win. We get the final big picture as well.
This series gets more interesting with the release of each new book. I really enjoy seeing the characters and develop and discovering what happens next. There is plenty to love about this book (and series), it’s definitely worth reading.
***mild spoilers*** In this chapter of Sere's saga she gets to experience more of the emotional side of life than she ever has before, joy, sadness, anger, fufillment, unimaginable grief, love she finds them all. You just have to wonder what's next.
if liked the first two youll love this one cant wait to read the next. and to the authore your dambed good at writing and this is coming from some who reads alot.
It always takes me a little while to get sucked in to these books, but then they won't let me go. This story was excellent and shared a bit more of Sere's past. There is the good, the bad, and the ugly in this one. Made me laugh and cry. Great writing.
