Read this book a few years back to understand the science behind the Gaytri mantra. But tried to read it for the second time since there is Mahashivratri tomorrow, So I can incorporate the Gayatri mantra for night Jhagarana. There are 36 detailed steps for invoking the Gaytri mantra, Though it looks tedious for a beginner. You must follow it rigorously if you are going for Asadharna Puruscharna. Those 36 steps for Sadakas.
The Basic pillars of Santana dharma revolve around Gomata(Mother cow), Bhagavad-Gita, Gaytri Mantra, and Ganga river.
Mystic "Om swami" has expounded his understanding of mantra and its practices through this book. The content would give detailed exposure to the "Gayatri Mantra" even for a beginner. After reading this work, I have a better understanding of the Gayatri mantra and how to practice it.
Gayatri mantra is the seed of all mantras discovered by "Vishwamitra" after his Tapasya. it must be chanted before getting invoked to any other mantra. Gaytri mantra structure is made of Chatuspadi(four limbs).
Mantra:
“Om Bhurbhuvah Svah,”
“Tatsaviturvarenyama,”
“Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi,”
“Dhiyo Yo Nah, Pracodayata,”
Translation:
Bhur-Bhuvah Svah is three planes of existence, three types of consciousness, three modes of material nature: sattva, rajas, and tamas –the modes of goodness, passion, and ignorance. Tat is that Savitur means something that’s radiant; it is also the name of the sun, and radiant, divine energy. Varenyam is something that is of the color saffron or something that is fit to be worshipped. Bhargo means radiant, effulgent; devasya is divine; dhimahi is to meditate upon. Dhiyo means intellect; yo means which; na means our, and pracodayata is to put in motion.
Meaning:
Meditating upon the brahman that is only fit to be worshipped. Brahman that is radiant like sun glowing like color saffron, is the one who fit to be worshipped. He is a glowing radian that fit to be meditated upon, I will invoke my intellect in motion to mediate upon this divine.
Four stages of chanting:
1. Ajapa - mantra itself chant through you, it happens after a multiple practices
2. Manasika - chanting through mind, but observing each of it with devotion
3. Japa - lips move while chanting
4. Vachika- chanting loudly
We require stillness of mind, to experience the true sense of the divine. Always chant mantra to invoke the divinity within you, Not to gain something.
Forms of mantra sadhana

2. Naimittika karma - Performing chanting with a specific purpose(never use the accumulated energy for yourself). Purusha charana invoking the mantra and saving it for future use. Kamya prayoga, application of energy on desired results.
