Bethany (Beth) Carter suffered a tragedy when she was young and decided to go to Scotland to study to become a lawyer specializing in human rights. Working at a coffee shop to pay her bills, Beth meets Irene MacAskill who tells her that she has another path to take if she dares although it won't be an easy one. Going through her arch and back into 16th century Scotland, Beth is thrown into the path of Camdan MacAuley who's fighting several men. She saves his life and he promises to keep her safe and get her back home. As they spend time together, she discovers that he's not just the man who works as a mercenary. When Camdan hears that his brother is the Laird of the MacCauley clan again, he's taken aback but happy that Logan found a way to break his curse although he believes he's too far gone to break his own. Beth believes otherwise.

I found this series through Kindle Unlimited and binge read this series. I loved this story and have enjoyed the entire series. I'm truly hoping there'll be at least one more so we can meet Camdan and Logan's younger brother. I highly recommend this book but suggest you read the series in order.

This is an OK time-travel romance, but I did have some issues with it.

First off, Bethany adapted to her unexpected time-travel way too easily to believe. I think she would have been a lot more freaked out by it then she was. Also, the highlanders would have been much more concerned with her strange talk and clothes than they were. They just kept thinking she must be "daft", and accepted her behavior as normal for someone from America. It seemed like they just accepted all her differences too easily. I didn't buy it.

For the most part, I liked both Bethany and Camdan, but I did get irritated with Camdan a few times. He was very controlling and bossy, which Bethany did not appreciate. She told him she was from a faraway place, where women were much more independent, so he should not have expected her to allow him to boss her around. He should have taken the time to explain why it was not safe for her to be so independent. He did get better, but it took him a while.

I didn't buy that Bethany and Camdan were in love. They were definitely in lust, but they just didn't spend enough time together for me to believe in their love connection. Camdan also annoyed her a lot when he kept telling her what to do.

I also thought that this story was very similar to the others in the series. There is unexpected time-travel, the h is rescued by a hot highlander, causes trouble with her modern ideas, falls in love with the hot highlander, needs to be rescued again, and then everything ends in an HEA. This one did have the difference of Bethany helping with Camdan's curse, but the plot was still very similar to the other books. Many of the scenes, like the love scenes and wedding scenes, are also very similar in all the books in the series.

One other thing bothered me, and this is minor, but it is a pet peeve of mine. The couple on the book cover should look like they are described in the book. In this book, Bethany is described as having dark hair, and Camdan has reddish-blonde hair. Yet, the cover shows them both with light blonde hair. That mistake may not be the author's fault, but it still bugs me.

The story was mildly entertaining, and I did like Irene, so I will read the next in the series -- but I probably would not continue the series if it wasn't free with Kindle Unlimited. Because of the issues I noted above, it gets 3 stars from me.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Katy! I have read several of the Arch Through Time series and this one is at the top so far. I love the added evil Fae element in it.

Time travel is one of my favorite genres to read and Katy Baker never disappoints.

This story follows our h, Bethany, who is an American lawyer in Scotland with no job prospects on the horizon after graduating. She had a tragic life which led her to want to become a lawyer and help the "good" people.

After another rejection from a law firm, Bethany meets our fabulous Irene MacAskill, whom as she always does, sends our h back in time to meet our H, Camdan McAuley aka "Cam". Cam has also had a tragedy that befell him which you will need to read about since most of the book centers around it.

Cam takes Bethany with him after he grew a conscience and wouldn't send her out into the wilderness on her own. During their travels together, our h saw the true H instead of the uncontrolled angry version of himself.

This book had some very pivotal moments up until the end and I loved it. I did not read Logan's book but have every intention of reading that one very soon.

As always, I will only leave honest reviews and happen to be very stingy with them. So a 4 star review means this a pretty darn good book.

This has to be my absolute favorite Archway book. This time Irene MacAskill "meets" a young American by the name of Bethany (Beth) Carter. Beth is living in Edinburgh, where she has completed her training as an attorney but so far has been unable to find any law firm that will offer her an Internship. And she needs the Internship in order to remain in Scotland.

Before Beth realizes what will happen, she has stepped through ANOTHER archway that takes her back to 1542 Scotland. There she meets a highlander by the name of Camdan (Cam) MacCauley. Cam and Beth are two people trying to hide from their past while trying to survive in a very rugged Scotland.

Cam feels an obligation to help Beth get to Edinburgh, which is several days ride from where they are now. You need to read the book to find out all the details. Trust me, if you love the previous seven books and the prequel, you will not be disappointed.

I was given a free ebook to read and give an honest review. All you need to do is go to your favorite retailer and you could be reading this book in minutes. You can thank me later. 😁

ONE CAPTIVATING DELIGHT!!!
Katy doesn't seem to break a sweat bringing this page turning bombshell into another astounding read with a strong plot that keeps your focus on the storyline. All the action, fast paced, suspense filled, excitement and adventure to keep you on a razors edge. The characters were intriguing, complex and realistic. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Twists and turns abound with nerve racking, thrilling surprises that will keep you spellbound and anxious for whats next. Following the characters as their world continues in chaos with a whirlwind of mishaps and discoveries. Katy did an incredible job bringing this read to life flawlessly and without a hitch. Great job Katy, thanks for sharing this remarkable tale with us.

Absolutely loved it. I can picture it actually happening to someone since the author makes it so believable. It was interesting how the various trials they both faced made them bond to each other. I can only wish it could happen to me and I can find my own Camden. I could barely put it down except for my eyes getting too fatigued to read anymore. My only regret is that there wasn’t more of the story so I could continue reading it. Congratulations Katy Baker, this one is a true winner

Bethany's traveling story

The hope and battles that the main character, Beth, faces is a deeper look into the fae, fairies, and how faith in yourself is strong enough to find your right future.

Call of Highlander

This is another great time travel romance written by Kathy Baker. In order to save his family and Clan, he made a deal with bad Faes. He had to give up his family in order to save them. It took someone from the future to help him break the spell.

I love this series!

I enjoyed this book, though I am not sure it was as great of a storyline as the other's. Could be just because I am suck with bronchitis, but it felt like something was missing, maybe cause his war horse was left behind. Loved the ending though.

Clearly I'm a sucker but tbh this series is getting better. Though I thought for sure there'd be a surprise pregnancy here. Does no one care about safe sex or the possibility of pregnancy?
