About the author

Journalist and author of several nonfiction books.

After graduating in 1975 she traveled for a year and Australia and New Zealand. Then she studied political science, communication science and American studies at the German School of Journalism in Munich. From 1982 to 1987 she worked as a freelance writer for epd / Kirche und Rundfunk, the Süddeutschen Zeitung and Natur. Then she editor for Zeit untill 1990 and from 1991 to 1994 editor and reporter for the Wochenpost. From 1994 to 1998 she worked for the magazine of the Süddeutschen Zeitung. Since 1999 she has been an editor and reporter in the Berlin office of the Zeit.

The focus of her work are environmental and social issues. For her book authored by Harald Schumann, The Global Countdown and perspectives on the impact of globalization, she received The political book 2009 award of the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation.
