Who wants nuclear power now? Well, the government of Britain for one. Despite the opposition from members of the public, the organised demonstrations and the promise of more environmentally friendly forms of renewable energy coming on stream, top dogs in Parliament can't give up the dream of building a whole new wave of nuclear power stations across the country. To Mickey, it was all a bit far removed from his everyday concerns, but then he lost a friend, and the whole thing has become personal. He can't forget Caitlin, so when the chance comes to work with her sister on an undercover investigation, it seems like an idea chance to pay back the debt he feels he owes the family and her memory. Then it gets dirty, mainly due to the outright interference of an eccentric computer millionaire, who seems to have his own ideas of where the country should be looking for its energy future. One thing is before the vision can be realised, more people are going to have to die.
Born in the Delta, south west of England where the curlews fly and the marigolds vanish, Mike quickly read through his local library and went looking for where the Industrial Revolution started in Britain. He arrived in Manchester in 1974, carried on his education at the local Polytechnic and was thrilled to be encouraged to read books and talk about them: writing the essays, however, was a chore. After a bit of teaching and years of Community Development, (where he helped people do what they wanted to do but sometimes didn't know it), he moved on into semi-retirement and found the time to construct more than one novel. Fashioning stories out of the clay of mortal men and the dust from the Inner City streets, he spins yarns that are always partly true but mostly happen in a universe where being 'fair' is fine, and being generous is expected. It's a moral place (with no swearing.) Sorry if that's confusing for people, such as; the 'Mickey from Manchester' series is not set in Real Manchester. It's more like a Mythical Manchester or a Make-Believe Manchester. And his real name's not 'Mickey' !
