HEATHER MARIE ADKINS writes too much but still too little. She also has too many cats, not enough tequila, and a torrid love affair with procrastination.
With a penchant for the paranormal, Heather spends her days fueled by coffee, Ancient Aliens, and true crime podcasts. She resides in an unfortunately-not-haunted Queen Anne in southern Indiana with a sarcastic husband who is entirely too dependent on puns.
When she’s not plotting her next book or herding felines, she's researching the spookier aspects of history for her podcast, Historically Weird. Find out more about her at heathermarieadkins.com.
Before the Darkness: Destruction of Magic Prequel April Canavan
April Canavan is a new to me writer. She spun her web on me and entranced me in this story! It is beautiful! Very different from the normal PNR. It was refreshing, powerful and drew me in! Romantic, exciting, intriguing and the hook is trying to stop magic from dying! The most difficult and painful path may lead to survival but it will also lead to heartache but the easier path, the one that will be filled with love, will ultimately destroy magic and all who are magical.
Star Rating: Overall, I enjoyed most of the stories in this collection. A few are 'continue the story', a number are 'maybes', and a few were alright but nothing that sucked me into the story. A mixed bag for sure, but in general, well done. * * All but the last story have their own entry here on Goodreads so each one could count towards my reading goal except for the last one so that I could actually count this and include my notes and highlights. * * His Haunting Kiss - 5 Stars https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... * * A Touch of Blood - 3.5 Stars https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... * * Cursed Voodoo - 3 Stars https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... * * Foresee - 3.5 Stars https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... * * Welcome to the Neighborhood - 5 Stars https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... * * Sarah`s Treat - 5 Stars https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... * * Before the Darkness - 3 Stars https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... * * Bewitching her Warlock - 4 Stars https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... * * Shifting Winds - 3 Stars https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... * * The Blue Moon - 2 Stars I just did not care for this story or the characters. I gave it 2 stars because I liked the concept of the story; moon being alive and longing for love here on Earth. It was a nice concept but it was also written very simply and a bit distracting to me honestly. Extremely quick read and not enough meat for me.

I'm pretty ticked. At least 4 of the "books" were nothing but short prequels that ended with, "Read the series to learn what happens." Bait and switch. I don't appreciate it.
I'm seeing this more and more in box sets. Coming close to stop buying them. I use them to find new to me authors, but not willing to spend money to get pissed off because authors aren't actually delivering what they claim they are.
Some of the full length stories were good, but at least one story, oh my god. It ha-d Wei-rdly hyphenated wo-rds through the entire story. Horrible editing on that one. Again, I say, someone needs to pay an editor to edit the entire box sets so that this doesn't happen. That one story brought my star rating down by one star. The 4 prequels brought it down by another 1*.
Some were good some were not at all good, one, Voodoo, was great. I liked it so much I read the entire series in a week. Who'd think I'd like anything about voodoo? Not me. Some of them were near porn. Those just show an author's lack of true writing skills. It's lazy. And you don't have to go that far. It's not sexy. It's just gross. I worry about some who think a book needs to go that far. To each his own....and with that I'm done. I didn't even finish all the books. I got about half way in and started skipping entire books. I'm not into porn.
An amazing collection of books. Some were complete but an opening for the rest of the series, some open ended ready for the next one and others quite random. A great set for an amazing price...Definitely will be tempted with other sets of this type...and now have some more sets to investigate
I loved the different stories, each one unique and some are sad others happy and some very steamy!! Very good choices... Even the short stories were great!
