Thomas Olmsted is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He is the fourth and current Bishop of Phoenix. He was Bishop of Wichita from 2001 to 2003.
Olmsted was ordained to the priesthood on July 2, 1973, for the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska. He was elevated to the episcopacy in 1999, and named bishop of Phoenix, Arizona in 2003.
A short and concise summary of the Catholic standard for marriage and family. It echoes a current and timeless theme of the need for the faithful to 1. Know God's plan for men and women and the family 2. Live that call to holiness in their lives. He provides concrete examples of what that looks like in action.
There is much discussion in this present time among faithful Catholics and the clergy about the movement from Christendom to an Apostolic Age. This small text is in this same style. Olmsted asks the reader to realize that it is countercultural to uphold the Catholic view of marriage and family life. But he exhorts us to follow the truth of the gospel and get on with the heroic work.
It wasn't new for me. But it was short, easy to read, and digestible.
