हिन्दी के कथाकारों में आचार्य चतुरसेन का महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है। आचार्य जी ने मुग़लकालीन तथा ब्रिटिश इतिहास का अध्ययन विशेष रूप से किया था । तत्कालीन राजघरानों से उनका निकट का संबंध रहा था इनको आधार बनाकर उन्होंने कहानियाँ तथा अनेक उपन्यास लिखे जो अनाज भी सार्थक हैं । साथ ही, सामाजिक विषयों पर उत्कृष्ट कहानियाँ भी लिखी । प्रस्तुत संकलन की कहानियाँ उन्होंने स्वयं पसंद की और उन पर टिप्पणियों भी लिखी हैं ।

आचार्य चतुरसेन शास्त्री का जन्म 26 अगस्त, 1891 को चांदोख ज़िला बुलन्दशहर, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ था। ऐतिहासिक उपन्यासकार के रूप में इनकी प्रतिष्ठा है। चतुरसेन शास्त्री की यह विशेषता है कि उन्होंने उपन्यासों के अलावा और भी बहुत कुछ लिखा है, कहानियाँ लिखी हैं, जिनकी संख्या प्राय: साढ़े चार सौ है। गद्य-काव्य, धर्म, राजनीति, इतिहास, समाजशास्त्र के साथ-साथ स्वास्थ्य एवं चिकित्सा पर भी उन्होंने अधिकारपूर्वक लिखा है।

इनकी प्रकाशित रचनाओं की संख्या 186 है, जो अपने ही में एक कीर्तिमान है। आचार्य चतुरसेन मुख्यत: अपने उपन्यासों के लिए चर्चित रहे हैं। इनके प्रमुख उपन्यासों के नाम हैं-

This is a collection of 12 small stories. Very small but very moving. All stories feel like on cusp of change in society. Nation is changing, thoughts are changing, mentalities are changing and with that change, old is resisting or feeling helpless or embracing it. These stories gives a unique insight in the times that is foundation of modern India. Also, an insight about the old ways, which sometimes feel ridiculous, innocent or even good.
All stories may be just 10 pages long, but reader may think about them for hours. I'm still thinking about a story ,"Jeevanmrat", and i think will continue to do so for a long time. This is my first book of acharya chatursen and I'm very impressed.

It is a collection of 10 short stories. The author takes us from one character to the other without losing his plot. Almost all are placed in the peri-independence era and give a glimpse of that part of our history.
