Beneath the Fallen City (Book 1)

**Winner of the Readers' Favorite Award for Fantasy & Science Fiction Romance**
**Winner of the Colorado Independent Publisher's Association's EVVY Award for Science Fiction**
**Global Ebook Awards Honorable Mention for Science Fiction**

In the shadows of the towers, your only hope is to scavenge for the truth…

One hundred and fifty years after the earth was ravaged by war, the two self-sustaining towers built by OmniLab continue to offer a safe haven for those who paid the hefty price to assure their family's survival. But on the surface, there are others who have survived over the years struggling to barter and trade artifacts found within the ruins of the crumbling cities in exchange for critical supplies.

When Kayla, a ruin rat skilled in computer hacking and scavenging, discovers a strange artifact known as The Aurelia Data Cube, she finds herself inadvertently caught up in a series of events that threatens the lives of the mysterious and elusive people within OmniLab.

Carl, an unorthodox negotiator with a head for business, is determined to eradicate the corruption amongst his OmniLab brethren and has no qualms about using Kayla to do it. Unfortunately, he wasn't counting on the vastness of the corruption or his own feelings for the headstrong woman who turns his life upside down.

Caught between the life she knew and a dangerous world that's claimed her as their own, Kayla learns the fearful truth behind just how far one man will go to obtain power and how far she'll go to survive.

Shadow of the Coalition (Book 2)

Only in the darkness can vengeance thrive…

It's been a month since Kayla, a headstrong ruin rat, and Carl, an OmniLab trader, returned to the surface. After she helped to restore control of the towers to those who would look after the best interests of the people, she'd found herself irrevocably bonded to Alec, the new co-leader of the High Council.

Although her heart belongs to Carl, she finds it difficult to resist the strange bond between her and Alec. Caught between learning how to handle her new emerging abilities, mysterious earthquakes, and a strange group seemingly intent on targeting OmniLab, Kayla is once again swept up in events that threaten to change the entire future of the towers.

Tremors of the Past (Book 3)

Sometimes searching within yourself can reveal a more painful truth…

Someone is trying to kill Kayla Rath’Varein—again.

The Omni Towers are more dangerous than ever to the self-proclaimed ruin rat. With the instability in the towers reaching a crescendo and perils lurking in every corridor, Kayla needs to find out who is responsible and stop them before they succeed in ending her life.

But when the man she loves is abducted and the lives of her former campmates are threatened, Kayla is forced to decide between launching a daring rescue attempt or protecting the lives of everyone within the towers. As her past and present collide, Kayla quickly learns that whatever path she chooses will forever change the course of her future and the fate of the Omni Towers.

THIS SET IS AMAZING! IT seriously made me put my life ON HOLD. I'll leave my review for each individual book here.

***Beneath the Fallen City, Book 1***
This is the kind of book that swoops in and restores my faith in the arts. In a dull, dull world where everyone is just putting their own spin on things that already exist and trying to make a buck, Waters comes in and gives us a whole new world to get lost into.

Beneath the Fallen City has complex characters who will prompt all kinds of emotions; some you’ll love, others you’ll love to hate. Others, you might even go back and forth on as more details emerge or they show their true colors.

I had resorted to re-reading old favorites like Harry Potter and The Hunger Games when I really need an escape, another world to get lost in. With this series, I won’t be needing to revisit past reads for a while. The reader gets a world that, while foreign, has plenty we can still relate to and dive right into. Nothing needs further explanation; it’s all made to make perfect sense and be comprehensible, without any long-winded or far-fetched explanations.

There’s action and fighting and various types of drama from romantic to vengeful to plain old greed and there’s adventure; all of it has a bit of a paranormal aspect, but nothing inconceivable. There’s some good versus bad or right versus wrong, but not in the same old, done-to-death way we always see. The reader is also treated to a love triangle of sorts, but not the usual, been-done-to-death type. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just say it’s well done, really fun and I definitely have my steady favorite to root for.

Every time I stepped away from this book, all I wanted to do was get back to it. Not much holds my attention these days, let along sucks me in this extremely anymore. It’s so refreshing.

Also, if you want a good, strong female lead or role model, Kayla is a total badass. Read it, buy it for your daughters, nieces, etc. as that front is also covered. Carl is a good male role model, while we’re on the topic: a guy with good intentions and a pure heart. I feel like there is something for everyone to relate to in this complex, action-packed, adventure-filled read.

5 stars. I wouldn’t change a thing.

***Shadow of the Coalition, Book 2***
Book 2 in Waters’ The Omni Towers series picks up right where book 1 left off. Kayla’s having a tough time, there’s unrest in the towers, so much cause for drama!

Waters’ character development is brilliant; I sort of hated Alec at the end of book 1, but not long into book 2, it’s clear he has pretty pure intentions. At least, I think he does. Clearly, I’m a little undecided still, but I no longer hate him. It’s basically impossible to hold onto my hate and I’m forced to keep an open mind. I applaud Waters’ writing style for making me stop and think, and I’ll just continue in the series and enjoy the ride.

There’s no shortage of drama, as you can see.
There is action, romance, heat, deception, adventure, mystery… what doesn’t this book have?

It does not end on a cliffhanger but I did need to start book 3 right away. I just can’t get enough of this world.

I read an ARC, but can still state that the manuscript is pretty clean so it’s safe to say this book is well-edited and proofed.

Character development is extraordinary. Water uses actions and other characters’ descriptives to get strong personality traits across, her various players really do have distinctly different voices. This is hard to come by in fiction.

This series is truly a gem that I recommend everyone read. I would not change a thing.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

***Tremors of the Past, Book 3***
I couldn’t put down books 1 & 2 in this series and when I finished 2, I had to go right into 3. My life was basically been put on hold for a couple days while I read this one, 3 because there was just no stopping. This series has gotten like a drug and so much else is now on hold while I try to devour it.

It’s really good. This one’s packed with action (some shrouded in mystery still), Kayla’s schemes to get around Alec, still the love triangle but it gets resolved in this one eventually, acts of war, actual war, drama, big revelations, and more. There’s also fierce loyalty, love of all types.

I read an ARC but can still testify that the manuscript is quite clean.
Formatting is clean as well and character development remains brilliantly advanced and on point. Continuity is perfect.

And Waters keeps it real; she works feels and romance into the most inopportune times but still manages to keep it real.

Waters may have been born to write. I’d love to see this series come alive on the screen; what an exciting television series it could be!

This is a great value boxset and covers the first three books of this dystopian fantasy series. The main character is a young woman called Kayla, who makes a living as a ruins rat, searching for any artifacts from the past or food supplies. It is now one hundred and fifty years since the world was destroyed by wars and their effects on the climate and living conditions. Parts of only the tallest buildings are now left above the earth and ruin rats are lowered down into them, to look for anything they can trade with.

They and their camp leaders have to deal with traders, most unscrupulous people only after a profit for themselves, who then pass on any artifacts onto the privileged people who get to reside in comfort, in the OmniLab Towers. A place where no common ruin rat would ever be allowed to enter. Only those thought important enough and with sufficient funds or a valued job role, got to live there. Kayla and her spotter work for a man called Leo, but she is soon being sought after by another OmniLab trader, called Carl.

The traders have a lot of sway on where the ruin rats can search, with their own ruin rats getting first dibs and other camps of ruin rats only allowed to search these areas once they are released for general consumption. Kayla is wary of one particular trader who is cruel in his manner and treatment of others and stays away from him. She and her spotter notice Carl and his men keep turning up where they are. It seems her past is catching up on her! An artifact she discovered a year before has a more sinister role than she ever expected and it led to a loss she has still not recovered from.

Carl gets a hold of Kayla and her spotter in a deal she can’t resist and that will keep her safe from the rogue trader. But this will lead to changes with Carl’s plans and the wish for overall power of one OmniLab tower leader. Kayla will be dragged into all of this, as her past, forgotten life is unveiled and her unexpected feelings for Carl just complicate matters. She can only succeed in her path and help save others, by being bonded to another, one she feels a bond to through her suddenly revealed powers, but doesn’t love in the same way. She soon learns how far one man will go for ultimate power and how much danger she and those she loves could be in.

The second book follows her as she and Carl return to the surface. She has to struggle against the pull of the bond between her and Alec, the new co-leader of the High Council, which runs the towers. She loves Carl and he is in love with her, even before her true heritage was revealed. Her powers, what she just thought of as luck and a sense, whilst searching the ruins, are increasing and she is learning more about them. Now they also have to deal with mysterious earthquakes and a dangerous group intent on targeting OmniLab. The entire future of the towers and those within it could change for the worst.

This leads to events in book three which yet again result in someone trying to kill Kayla. The power within the towers is growing steadily more unstable all the time, with anger around every corner. Kayla’s attempt to find out who or what is responsible for these problems could just get her closer to whoever is trying to kill her! Next Carl is kidnapped and the others she loves from her former camp, are threatened and Kayla has to make an important decision. Save those in the tower or organise a daring rescue attempt for her loved ones. Both will likely be impossible. Whatever she chooses to do will change her future and the future of everyone in the towers.

A great set of books to read with interesting and complex main characters and a well described landscape for events to take place on. The emergence of her powers is done fairly gradually and the job of ruin rat is well thought of, in such a desolate world where some are still privileged and want the memories and power symbols, now artifacts, of their past to be displayed, no matter the cost. A different take on the end of the world as we know it and a well-paced set of books. I can’t wait to see if there are more to come. I received an ARC copy of this boxset from BookSprout and I would recommend it to everyone! I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Book 1 kinda went in a weird direction for me, book 2 was a bit slow and far too much love triangle, but book 3 brought it all together and OMG so worth making it to the end. Below are my reviews for the individual books. Strong 4.5 so I will round up to 5

Beneath the Fallen City
This was overall an entertaining read, but it didn't know what it wanted to be. The initial set up has been seen in books as old as HG Wells The Time Machine, with the havenots barely scraping together a survival by selling artifacts scavenged from the remains of the prior civilization to the wealthy denizens of the Omni Towers.

It starts as tech based sci-fi with quite a bit of cyber tech thrown in and then all of a sudden it is paranormal psychic phenomenon. The lead is presented as a strong, sassy, gifted woman, but is written like the lead in a romance. The amount of hormone driven thoughts and sex was unnecessary to this type of book and took away from the pacing and feel of the book, especially since it seems to skew YA.

Shadow of the Coalition
My first impression was that this book spent way too much time on the love triangle and that parts of it felt really icky non-ncon, or dub-.com at best. But upon further reflection, those parts did fit as this part of Kayla's story is one of immense growth and rediscovery of who she is and illustrated both her new powers and her new vulnerabilities. The Towers and their governance are still in transition with some precarious balances keeping the peace. The Traders are finding themselves in a new relationship with the towers, the Ruin Rats have a new "benefactor" or employer perhaps? And Kayla made a huge discovery that will shake everything up. This is the part of the story where everything you thought you figured out in book 1 is turned on its head and expanded and Kayla is trying to figure out where she fits. All these groups have a claim on her, but where does she belong? And just what is the true nature and extent of her powers?

Tremors of the Past
Holy changing alliances Batman! Groups and individuals were changing side and teaming up for mutual benefit only backstab and rejoin a different way I was getting whiplash from trying to keep it all straight! The Alliance, the Coalition, the Ruin Rats, and the various factions within them - a lot of what was set up or teased at in the first two books gets fleshed out and explored more in this one. Kayla come back into her own too. Can't no one keep that girl contained! I like finally seeing her embrace her powers and the glimpse at the other side and her history. Phenomenal, powerful conclusion to her main arc. But I think I need to read it again because there was so much going on I lost the threads in a couple places.

Our heroine is a scavenger living in the shadow of OmniTowers, literally beneath their notice. That is until she discovers something that could bring the towers down. Suddenly she has more attention than she wants.

This is a collection of the first three books in the series, hence an excellent place to start. The stories are very well written and easy to read, each with a fast paced plot that features action, intrigue, and lots of surprises which keep our heroine and the reader guessing as to what comes next. The setting is well developed with a lot of detail that is explored over the course of these books. Similarly, our characters also have good depth to them. Our heroine is one tough lady, smart and resourceful, just the kind of heroine that I like to read about. Overall, this collection provided lots of good entertainment value and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Highly recommended.

Omni Towers Book 1
I give this book a 3.75. It’s not a 3.5 but not quite a 4 for me, but to be fair I’m on a series hangover waiting for a new book to come out so maybe this affected my attention on this book. I wanted to love it. A friend suggested it and she gave it a 5 and she rarely does that. It was interesting but lost my interest a couple of times. I’m definitely going to read book two and see how it compares.

Book 2

4 stars
I liked this book so much more than the first one. I am growing to like Alec more and more by the end of this book. Kayla is an awesome character and I can’t wait to see where the story goes in book three

Book 3
4 stars
So much happened in this book! The twists and turns on this rollercoaster have your hands in the air begging for more!

Excellent Read

A dystopian fantasy that easily takes its place among some of the best fantasy trilogies that I have had the pleasure to read.
A wonderfully descriptive read which takes you i to a different reality but mirrors current politics of out own world where the small portion of the elite control all of the power while the majority scrounge through ruins to collect 'treasures' which they can trade for their basic needs.
Wonderfully created characters weave in and out of the storyline and the author has cleverly built all of these showing their strengths as well as their weaknesses.
I was so disappointed to reach the end of the first trilogy that I can hardly wait to read the next 3 books.
Thank you Jamie for allowing is to enjoy such excellent work. It was a pleasure to read

Now that I’m done the whole series I feel like I’ve left friends behind. While young adults are the central characters in the role, younger readers do need to be aware that there are explicit passages that means they probably should wait to read this series until they are a bit older. That being said, this series definitely needs to be read. The complications of love and relationships is deftly handled and many different types of relationships are explored and accepted, including a form of polyamory. There are strong female characters who know their own mind. The sci-fi/post-apocalyptic themes in the story are very interesting and engaging. I highly recommend this to any sci-fi/post-apocalyptic fan.

The first three books of a dystopian fantasy with an indomitable kickass heroine who captured my complete attention from the very first chapter! Kayla is quite the brilliant scavenger of ruins and her scintillating relationship with Carl is a battle of wills tempered by an irresistible attraction that soon turns into a passionate affair of the heart. Action packed danger and an intriguing storyline that kept me entertained throughout these first three books, mainly centered around the enchanting Kayla. I loved reading this series!

This is an amazing set of books that had me hooked from the moment that I started reading Book 1. They move along at a great pace, have an interesting set of characters that you cannot help but fall in love with and you cannot wait to see what happens next to them and a story that will not let you go.. From the moment that you start reading you will be hooked there is no doubt about it. The other really nice thing about it being a box set is that you can continue right into the next book without waiting. This is a series that has got to be read, there is no doubt about it.

Even if you have read one of these books it will not matter, because reading them in a box set just makes all 3 books that much better. The writing of Jamie Waters is just superb as he brings each page to life in your mind. As for the characters, well there are so many and each one is fleshed out so that you seem to know what they are going to do before they do it. No matter what you like in a book, this box set has it all. Action, super powers, fighting, romance (a lot) and suspense. This box set is one heck of a buy and I am so glad I read it.

too much

Waaaay to many “gazing with pure love” and exclamations of the heroine’s stunning beauty and skills. Really got in the way of the story. Paper thin build on the reasons for the apparent apocalypse etc. Endless musings about special powers. But in spite of all that I did skim to the end to find out how it ended: with saccharine reunions and heartfelt proclamations of undying devotion if you’re wondering. Hated the main character by the end even though all the book characters think haring off doing whatever you want and endangering everyone else is adorable.

Awesome series! Three full books in this set, not little novella's.

*Book 1, Beneath the Fallen City
If I could give BENEATH THE FALLEN CITY six stars, I would. Once I started reading, I could not put this book down. From the first page, as Kayla crashes through the floor of the building she was exploring, I felt like I was right there with her. The scenes, as described by this author, had me actually feeling like I was right there amongst the dust and debris and ancient artifacts.
Oh! And the characters! I loved Kayla with her snarky, totally capable, quick tempered, tough-girl image, and yet so fully developed as a character, the reader was able to see the soft, vulnerable side of her as well. And Carl. OMG! Just reading about this guy had my heart thumping in overtime. Then there is Alec. Wow! What more could a gal ask for? Not generally a fan of love triangles, but this one is done so well that I am truly intrigued and can’t wait to read the next two books in this series.
About the story… In this post-apocalyptic world, the elite (or those who were able to afford the price) live in the gleaming white towers built by OmniLab. These people have grown up in a world where life is easy and food and water and other commodities are readily accessible. Those not able to afford the price of residency are forced to be scavengers on the surface and live in camps where conditions are harsh. Kayla is a ruin rat who has learned to survive by finding items in the ruins that can be sold to the various traders, who in turn sell these items to the people in the Omni Towers. When a strange turn of events puts Kayla in the middle of the Omni Towers corruption, sparks fly. Be prepared for lots of action and intrigue. Fascinating story line!
Jamie A. Waters is an author to watch. Her ability to create such well-developed characters and pull you into her fascinating world is simply awesome!

*Book 2, Shadow of the Coalition
Okay. I just couldn't wait. After reading BENEATH THE FALLEN CITY, the first book in the Omni Towers series, I simply HAD to read this second book. And I was definitely NOT disappointed. Everything I loved about the first book was back again in this second book! Although this author did an excellent job of bringing the reader up to date without repeating too much, it would probably be a good idea to read Book #1 of this series before reading SHADOW OF THE COALITION (Book #2).
Shadow of the Coalition starts off with Kayla back in the ruins, but what she finds this time may have an impact on the future survival of everyone, both on the surface and in the Towers. Although Kayla is concerned about being in the close vicinity of Alec again, she and Carl find it necessary to travel back to the Towers. Kayla's concerns nearly explode when she's alone with Alec. I love the natural chemistry that sparks between Kayla and Carl and yet I'm still fascinated with that bond she has with Alec.
Some fascinating new characters and a whole lot of intrigue are introduced in Shadow of the Coalition and Jamie Waters did an excellent job developing these new characters while keeping this reader glued to her seat with all the action going on. Wow! More twists and turns and action and hot romance! I'm hoping to see more of these new characters in her next book. One thing is for certain... these books are not predictable. You never know what is going to happen next. But whatever it is, you can be assured that this author will make it flow together into a storyline that will leave you wanting more. This series simply demands to be made into a movie! Fans of Firefly and The Hunger Games will definitely agree with me!

*Book 3, Tremors of the Past (Slight spoiler alert)
Great story, fantastically crafted world and amazing characters! I was so glad to hear that even though this book concludes the main story with Kayla, it is not the end of the series! Tremors of the Past is the third book in The Omni Towers Series and I can't wait to read more. I can't remember the last time I was so totally engulfed in a book series! Jamie Waters had me holding my breath one moment, laughing at the banter between Kayla and Leo the next moment, and then wiping away the tears near the end. It was all so good!
While Kayla is still recovering from the knife wound inflicted by Lars, she takes the security people on a wild hunt as she crawls the rafters in the towers. That's when an energy attack from a wind channeler nearly causes her to fall. Or was it a Shadow who tried to kill her? As the culprit or culprits are hunted, it becomes clear that the Towers have been infiltrated and precautions must me made. But those precautions include holding back shipments of supplies to the camps on the surface. Then things go terribly wrong and Carl is abducted in order to lure Kayla to the surface. It works. With the help of her friends and the unwilling Brant, Kayla manages to secure the shipment of supplies for Leo's camp, break out of the Towers, and do what she must do to locate Carl. With the surprise about who Brant really is, the challenge between Alec and Lars over Kayla's bond, and the attack on the Towers, there is lots of excitement!
The ending of this book was so well done and although there was a sense of completion, it left me not wanting it to end. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Highly recommended to anyone who likes paranormal romance or post-apocalyptic!

Good story but

Plot and story line interesting but without surprises; unfortunately the characters and their development was poor with the protagonist always having sexual encounters and the word, exquisite, describing her every other page; the soft porn also detracts from the story and the characters; this was just raw sex without a real shred of romance.
