This volume gets a solid five stars from me, if only because we get to see Naofumi’s face as he cries AND laughs. Get you a protagonist that can do both.
Once again the pacing is pretty fast, but it wasn’t as noticeable this time. The plot is also finally getting more interesting, so the faster pace is actually a little welcomed.
As a side note, the special extra chapter is the funniest one yet. Naofumi’s dislike of his armor and his struggles as a single dad will never not be funny.
Naofumi is overcome by rage from the injustice that has plagued him from the lying manipulating princess and the hate directed towards him for no known reason just because he is the shield hero. With the help of his companions, he is slowly healing but with every encounter of unjust hate, he slips back into that rage. Will he be able to harness that rage in the next wave or will it control him?
I wonder what will happen to Naofumi? Will other heroes be nice to Naofumi? Will the world be safe after this? More importantly, what will Naofumi do when he is in the process of dark magic situation?
2) English Review This is how you do a proper seduction by the dark side, by using legitimate grievances against someone. And how it may affect people around you. However: Being caught in the dragon's mouth made Filo regurgitate all the red fruits she had previously eaten? How and how many had she eaten? And she has no scratch at all? How durable is she? Or is this just to be comedic? And the little girl could hide inside Filo's plummage? How thick is the layer of feathers? And what sort of feathers are those? I had the suspicion that this priest was the one who wanted to sell Naofumi the low level holy water and now blammed it on the "nun" to save face. And I wonder what this penance is supposed to be if it scares her so much. And apparently the new girl is also a princess. Is she the one were the earlier message in the last volume was from? And it is pretty assholish by Naofumi to say she is of the same blood as her father and sister and so not trustworthy. Also, he seems way more trustworthy, comparatively, towards this random soldier who wants to claim allegiance. Raphtalia is probably right in saying that those people are trustworthy, but it makes sense that Naofumi is mistrustful, but considered how demonized the shield hero is here, why would anyone risk it and so it should be clear that they are genuine.
PS. And Filo kicks the lance hero again, serves him right!!!!
PSS. Why am I not surprised to see some old Japanese style woman suddenly in this medieval western inspired game world?
I have been reading plenty of Isekais lately and this one is about a underated tank looked down upon and framed as a rapist, murderer, evildoer by his allies and those that summoned him. Its pretty much to the point, where the main character has to go through many obstacles and handicaps with the help of people that get to know him and believe in him seeing the kind person he is deep down. There isn't any fan service which is nice and the first female main character is one that truly develops into her own more than others.
