Born and bred in New England, I headed west - Ohio, Oregon, France, and finally Washington state. I spent many years working with people with developmental disabilities, married, raised my daughter, and returned to school to study writing. My memoir, set in the mountains of southern France, is "A Long Way from Paris," was named a "Kirkus Best Books of 2014." Switching genres, I wrote the enthralling mystery, An Unfamiliar Guest, which readers have loved for its twists and turns. Additionally, I wrote two "tiny books non-fiction books"Life Kind of Sucks"unique art and short quips with good ideas of what to do on those "bad hair days, and "Writers Unblocked" with tops by some of Seattle's best authors. I publish a Website for aspiring and accomplished writers, Writers Connection www.writersconnection.org and teach and tutor at Seattle Central College and Tacoma Community College. www.ecmurray.com www.writersconnection.org
This book would be good for an individual who is just beginning to write because it provides a series of brief pep talks from successful writers. Formulated mostly around one question, "What advice do you have for aspiring writers?", the various authors offer encouragement and sometimes include practical insight into the craft. However, overall the collection gains to deliver on the implied promise of its description.
This book is a fast read with a some really valuable advice. I'm enjoying it. Some of the authors to me offer better advice than others such Erik Larsen author of Devil in the White City, and the poet Susan Rich who I love her clever way of offering advice. So many books on the craft of writing are boring and not helpful, this one isn't. I really enjoyed it! I have a writing group, and I will recommend it to the people in my group. Now I can't say I like all of the advice, but almost all of the authors advice I did really appreciate it, some I especially liked were Susan Rich, Erik Larson, and the author of Broken for You, by Stephanie Kallos
Very quick read that provides aspiring writers with short bursts of inspiration from writers already established in their careers. I like that most of the advice is concrete and practical. I also like that many of the writers emphasized how important it is to read as well as write. It could have served its purpose better with more detailed answers from each writer.
If you are or want to be a writer “Writers Unblocked” is a book of encouragement. The collection of authors assembled to provide their personalized tips is as diverse as their genres. No excuses! If you need a push or jump start this quick read is well worth your time! I received this ebook in a Goodreads Giveaway.
