Fractured Darkness

Mica When I had nowhere to go, Caleb took me in. I thought he loved me... but now I'm not sure he ever did. I’m nothing but his next victim, a pawn in his messed up play for control. He's a monster with a handsome face and I fell for him. Caleb is my darkness, and his brother Jace is my muted light. Will his darkness ever stop consuming me, so that I can once again see the light? Jace Mica is now a prisoner here alongside me and I'm struggling to see a way out for both of us. I've been forced to endure violence and pain unleashed by Caleb for too many years to see a future without him in it. I just hope somehow we can resist succumbing to the control and mind games before the damage is irreversible. **This book is a standalone** **Trigger Warning** Due to graphic scenes of abuse, this is not suitable for readers under 18 or sensitive to abuse issues.

Reader beware that you will pulled into a dark place that will have you consumed with the story of Caleb, Mica and Jace from the first few lines until the very last word written. The storyline is clear and vivid throughout, you’re heart will break, bleed and be shredded for both Mica and Jace more often then not but you will continue to read because you’ll be part of their life and they’ll become part of you. Caleb is a dark soul in more ways then one I would never wish to ever cross his path, unfortunately there are those just like him in this world and it makes this book more of a reality. This is the first time I’m reading this authors work but it most certainly wont be the last.

What a great read this was. Mica is beautiful, broken and has no clue who she is in bed with. Caleb is dark, twisted and loves to taunt his brother. Jace is stuck no easy word for it , he hates his brother and loves his brothers gf. And this twisted love story begins. This is my first book by this author and I loved it, loved the darkness of it, the determination of these characters, and the ending could not of been more perfect. Can't wait to read more from her.

Please take heed to the posted warning. This story has many triggers (abuse, domestic violence, self-harm, etc.) so if you are sensitive to those types of things then you probably shouldn’t read this one.

Fractured Darkness is an intense, gripping story that will suck you in from the first page and won’t let go until the very last one! The storyline is vivid throughout and the characters were really well developed. It’s told from all 3 characters POV but mainly from Mica and Jace.

Mica, poor sweet broken Mica. Her parents died when she was younger and since then she’s been living with an Aunt who blames her for her parent’s death. She thinks life can’t get any worse.

Then she meets a boy who she thought would be her hero. Turns out he was a wolf in sheep’s clothing with a handsome face. At first, Caleb is the perfect guy and sweeps little broken Mica right off her feet. Things are fine, for a while. Then her Aunt kicks her out of the house and Caleb moves her in with him and his younger brother, Jace.

Jace fell for Mica the first time Caleb brought her home. But unlike Mica, Jace knows exactly what’s hiding under his brother’s good looking facade. In an effort not to anger the beast that resides in Caleb, Jace keeps his feelings to himself.

But Caleb isn’t stupid. He knows exactly how his little brother feels about the broken girl he brought home to play with, and knowing his brother is falling for Mica makes it that much more fun for him.

Over time Jace and Mica develop a bond. They need each other more and more to survive the horrors that Caleb is putting them both through. Jace is stuck between a rock and a hard place, desperately wanting to help Mica but also not wanting to enrage Caleb further and make it any worse for her.

Will Jace rescue Mica? Will Caleb cause Mica to finally break completely? Will either of them survive the hurricane that is Caleb?

You’ll have to read Fractured Darkness to find out, trust me you will not regret it!

My first read from Ally Vance was Flower In The Dark and I’ve been hooked on her writing ever since! In Fractured Darkness Ally touches on subjects that don’t get a lot of exposure. I applaud her for making sure that the links for resources that one would need in a similar situation were added to the book, thanks Ally!

Fractured Darkness is one of those books that will be on your mind long after you’ve finished it.

If you like dark, DARK romances, then this book is for you.

I don't mind if a book doesn't make any sense. I don't care if any of the characters don't even behave like normal people. That's usually how my mindset works.

However when the perfect option, the most convenient way out was presented to the characters and they still preferred NOT to choose it. My god. How it bothered me.

Case in example:
This guy has raped, physically and mentally abused you for two years. You've escaped from his clutch for the first time, and when asked whether to report his fucking ass to the police, you said 'NO'.

I can't even.

Two fractured, broken souls finding light in their darkness.

That is what you will get here. Two beautiful broken souls stuck in a dark place, who find each other, find themselves and find love.

This book is not for the faint of heart. This story deals with dark themes. It has a trigger warning for a reason.

Lucky for me, I love a good book that is not only written well but that brings out all the feels to the table. Ally Vance did not disappoint and this is her best work yet.

Mica, she bleeds so much emotion throughout the story. You feel all that she feels and endures. A broken heroine that you root for till the very end.

Jace, our broken hero. Who rises above his circumstances and gives his tattered heart and soul away.

This story will gut you, will make you feel all emotions, will give you hope, but ultimately will stay in your heart.

Once I started this story I couldn’t put it down. It was so so good and will definitely be on my re read list.

When Mica had nowhere to go her boyfriend Caleb let her move in with him and his brother Jace.

Caleb and Jaces relationship isn’t good. Caleb is very controlling. When Mica moves in the situation gets worse.

Can anyone survive?

This is a gripping read but be warned it’s not for everyone. The author has done well on writing about a sensitive subject of abuse. It’s everywhere around us and this story brings to light that we don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.
I’m so looking forward to reading more from this author in the future. If you love dark reads then I highly recommend you read this.

Fractured Darkness is my favorite dark read; a feat I did not think was ever possible. Ally Vance blew me away with this book. There were layers of complexity that all enhanced every moment. It has left a very lasting impression.

I will say heed the trigger warning. This is not for the faint of heart. Ally Vance digs into darkness and pushes a topic that is vital but often not acknowledged or covered insufficiently.

We hear it on the news, we may know someone or even live through it ourselves and yet abuse is so often swept under the rug. Ally Vance pulls it out and forces the reader to recognize it all while providing a captivating story. So often we hear the word victim yet the author delivers on why I will always call those who face abuse warriors. She does not back away from any affect that is caused by trauma and most significantly she manages to convey it with both male and female perspectives. I have never seen this originality.

The main characters have depth to them unlike any I’ve seen. It’s real, it’s powerful and it manages to show the flaws and fractures in them. The world building is so vivid that at times I wanted to turn away but Ally Vance kept me hooked with every word. Nothing was superficial in this book.

Fractured Darkness broke me with its skillful plot. Expect the darkness and expect emotions to singe your soul. The story is complicated, unapologetic and I’m still left with its imprint on my heart.

5 stars for a vehemently dark read.

***Why didn’t she just leave?***

I’ve read other books labelled “Dark Romance” but I honestly don’t know if I have read anything like this before!

Fractured Darkness is DARK, difficult and disturbing. I’m not going to lie. Many times, I had to put the book down to literally take a breather and then force myself to pick it up again. In other words, I read it the way I would watch horror movies - scrunched into a ball with my hands over my eyes and peeking through my fingers.

Jace Scott lives with his older brother Caleb. Caleb is controlling, self-centred, manipulative and devoid of conscience. Jace knows that his brother is wired differently than the rest of us, a “monster with a human face” and his only hope is to try and avoid his brother’s violent outbursts.

When pretty Mia Kiernan enters their lives as Caleb’s innocent girlfriend, she has absolutely no idea the depth of the trap she has walked into. Fooled by a psychopath’s charm, she is chasing a love that doesn’t exist. She has vulnerabilities for a predator to exploit. Caleb has chosen Mia as a new means of tormenting Jace. Before long, both Mia and Jace are prisoners in Caleb’s house.

Ally Vance’s depiction of domestic violence and abuse is stark and unapologetic. This is what it is in all of its ugliness. In our action-driven minds as readers, we are tempted to berate the victims for not doing more to extricate themselves from their own abuse. But as the author marches us inexorably towards the conclusion we come to the understanding that the psychological shackles that Caleb had on Mia and Jace were far stronger than any steel shackles that he didn’t have on them.

“Why didn’t she just leave?” This is a question asked every single day that domestic violence continues to happen, and that this author has bravely and painfully examined for us. If you are having difficulty midway into the book and feeling unsure, stick with it. You have already bypassed the trigger warning (which was very necessary and appropriate) and are now in need of a catharsis. Wouldn’t it comfort you if Mia and Jace could save themselves? Have a happy ending? Or would it make you sadder for those in real life who have yet to do so?

Fractured Darkness was gratefully received as a gift from the author and is my first Ally Vance book.

This read touches A very important thing that will make you look at yourself and at your friends for any symptoms - Home abuse, violence, psychotic partners. Hard topic but Ms. Vance takes us for a ride ale The way down The Road of minds of the abuser and his victims.
PLEASE read The WARNING as its really not suitable for all readers.
Mica is A naive girl that Loves with Her whole Heart... But what if Her chosen one is not a Knight on The White horse? Well... sh** she will have to find a way to survive. Will brother of Her abuser be any help? Time will Tell!
Jace had lived with his abusive brother... He doesn't remember Time when There was no darkness There... He grew to it. Yet beginning such an innocent girl to this World will break his defenses.
I was impressed by how different where views of M and J about The whole situation. It was really intriguing but also I wanted to do.. something almost constantly while reading The book.
Will they manage to survive and live A normal Life after what they Both had endured form Caleb?

I found this a very dark and uncomfortable read. Exactly what I was looking for.
Excellent writing from Ally Vance had me cringing and shying away from the book as it's awfulness unfolded, and yet, I couldn't put it down.
Mica and Jace were both victims here, both prisoners inside the home that Caleb kept them trapped in.
Both victims of physical and mental abuse and in Mica's case, sexual abuse too.
This book is not for the faint hearted or those that have triggers.

The title for the book is so fitting for this story. This is a book that will break you heart and make you cry. But you can’t help but love the complexity of the characters and those small amount of happiness that you get to witness in this story. This book is like nothing I have read before you feel like a fly on the wall watching and witnessing everything that happens and feeling every emotion that the characters feel.
This is a very dark and emotional book.

5 stars a dark emotional read

Caleb is Jace’s big brother and he is so broken words cannot begin to describe the monster within. Jace doesn’t care though, it’s his brother, nothing can come between them until Caleb’s new girlfriend, Mica, comes to live with them. Caleb knows his brother likes her, but that just makes it more fun for him. Mica thought she found the perfect loving boyfriend until Caleb’s true personality finally surfaced. This book is riveting and heartbreaking at the same time. There are so many layers to this book. I truly enjoyed the bond that happens between Jace and Mica in order for them to survive. I don’t want to say to much and spoil it for you but be warned this is a very dark romance with many triggers. If you like dark romances then I would give this book a try. Told in multiple POV

This story is so heartbreaking, so emotional, so soul wrecking. The things these characters go through at the hands of another is insane. You will feel the agony that you are reading, and you will want to help or get help. I was sucked right into this story from the beginning. I love everything about this story and is happy I've read it.

Fractured Darkness, is one of Ally's best books. It's different from her other reads and more intense. She should be proud of her work.

OMG! This book pulled at my heartstrings so much! And I loved it!
Mica is a young girl, who has not had an easy life. She meets Caleb and falls in love. But Caleb is extremely dark inside. Although thoughtful and kind, at first, Caleb becomes a monster. The horrible things he does to Mica, and his brother Jace, made me cringe and gasp.
This story delve into a darkness that is unimaginable and somehow Ally imagined it and put it into words.
This book is 6 heart breaking stars!

Jace is attracted to his brother Caleb’s girlfriend, Mica, from the moment he meets her. Knowing Caleb has an inner psychopath, Jace stays far away from Mica, even after she moves in with the brothers.
“Every night she goes to my brother’s room with him, and every night I stare at the wall separating us, wishing she was in here with me instead.”

Jace’s biggest fear is his brother ever catching on to the fact that he has feelings for Mica.
“Beautiful and forbidden Mica. The woman I lust over every fucking night, and my brother’s girlfriend.”

Mica is a cutter with a ton of baggage. What starts as pleasurable pain with Caleb quickly turns to much more.
“She gave me her fragile fucking heart which I didn’t ask for or want, and I now twist it in my hands.“

And even though Jace basically shuns Mica, Caleb is no dummy...
“I’ll make her life a living nightmare if she ever dares to act on how Jace feels for her. She belongs to me, and only me. Little Mica’s with the big bad wolf, and she has no idea, yet.”

Eventually, Caleb shows his true colors, keeping both his brother and Mika captive in the house. He is a sick, twisted dude who I thoroughly enjoyed reading about! If you like your books dark, you will like this one a lot!!!

Although this book is extremely well written, I couldn’t help but notice quite a few typos and punctuation mistakes. For example, sentences like, ”It’s all part of his sadistic .”, LYING instead of LAYING and INTO instead of IN TO - all things a proofreader could quickly clean up. I was also disappointed that the main characters initially don’t speak at all, That was too big of a gap in the storyline, IMO. Otherwise, it’s a fabulous book, and I will definitely be reading more by this author!

Jace Scott has always lived in fear of his older brother, Caleb. But unfortunately he is all Jace has left for family so he remains imprisoned inside of their house where Caleb controls everything.
When Caleb brings home his new girlfriend Mica Kiernan, Jace hopes that this has brought about a change in Caleb. Mica is sweet and all of the goodness you want in a person but has Caleb taken her in just to destroy her?
Can Jace and Mica come together to draw strength from each other or is Caleb planning on destroying them both?
This book gives a warning at the beginning saying this book tackles very difficult subjects and is graphic and I do believe that this book is not for everyone. There are parts that are so raw and disheartening that people do exist there like Caleb.
I liked Jace but I was a little confused on why he never left the house and how this could happen. Through the book I was still a little confused on how Caleb had them locked in. I felt bad for Jace as his mom didn’t want to leave him but was obviously afraid of Caleb and it was understandable.
Mica was such a great girl who had her world taken away from her with the death of her parents and then she found solace with Caleb when she was having a hard time with her Aunt Sarah. It appeared that Caleb was the answer to her dreams but it ended up turning into a nightmare.
Caleb was just pure evil. His character had so much power and was able to manipulate people into giving him what he wanted. I was shocked as I was reading with how he would constantly torture and rape Mica to keep her in line.
I wasn’t surprised at the friendship that developed between Jace and Mica with both being prisoners but I also knew they were walking a scary line!! As the two began to get closer I was definitely afraid for Mica as Caleb knew he could get to Jace by hurting Mica.
There were a few twists and turns that I saw and didn’t see coming. Some made me happy and others had me afraid!!
I was definitely hoping for a certain ending and it came but not the way I thought it would. I was grateful for the new start but the demons were definitely still there in the mind of Mica after everything she endured! - By Rebecca

Ally blew me away with this one, once you start it's hard to put down. Mica meets Caleb and feels attracted to him since she has had a hard life living with her Aunt since her parents were killed. Before long Caleb asks her to move in so she does since her Aunt hates her with a passion blaming her for her parent's death. So she agrees thinking Caleb will be her savior. Also sharing the house is Jace who is Caleb's brother. Caleb took Jace in when their mother dies and they are left with no living relatives. Caleb is the sole inheritor of their grandmother's inheritance. So he virtually owns the house they're living in, leaving Jace no choice but to live under Caleb's rule. Jace is trapped with his brother who is a monster who can be quite cruel at times but he has nowhere to go nor anyone to turn to. Jace fears he is a monster like his brother but he knows he is not as dark as his brother.
Mica finds out just how cruel Caleb could be once she finds out she can no longer leave. Her only shining light is Jace who she manages to spend some time with whenever Caleb goes out. They can only talk when Caleb has gone out to run errands careful not to get found by Caleb when he returns home otherwise someone will suffer dire consequences. I received a copy (Thank you) to do an honest review for Naughty Nightie Book Blog. This is a very dark read with quite a bit of graphic domestic violence described in detail. So maybe a few triggers for some people, therefore, may not be the read for you so use your discretion.

Fissures in the dark 4 stars

Fractured Darkness is a beautifully broken story about Jace, Mica and Caleb. When I got a hold of the book and started reading I had no idea what I was getting into. The author had warned us with trigger warning but it still did not prepare me.

Jace lives with this brother, Caleb and then suddenly there was Mica, moving in with them. The dynamics between the brothers weren’t good. And adding Mica into the mix made the situation, red. You’ll know why I say that when you read it. But be careful, this book is NOT for everyone. Jace’s relationship with his brother was in some ways typical yet in other not to be believed. Mica on the other hand had no clue about Caleb’s mind or what he was capable of.

Slowly the situation becomes darker and darker while Jace fights his inner demons so as not to trigger a reaction from Caleb. Can they survive the volatile situation? The story is gripping, emotionally wrecking.

Will the beautifully broken Mica survive Caleb’s wrath when it’s unleashed. Will Jace able to get unstuck from between the rock and the hard place and rescue Mica? Or will Caleb’s dark and twisted love destroy his own blood and the woman he professes to love?

Intense and emotional from beginning to end, as it weaves it's way into your heart and leaves a trail of darkness. Touching on tough subjects, this is definitely not a read for the faint of heart.

Mica is broken and scarred, in need of someone to love her and help piece her back together, she finds that in Caleb. What she doesn't know, is that Caleb just wants her for his games.
Jace knows his brother and what he is capable of. He's been living this life since his mother left, he doesn't want to let Mica become a part of the hell too. But Caleb's threats are to real to mess with.
Caleb has a twisted mind and wants control over everything, including both Jase and Mica.
Will Caleb gain full control over both of them? Will Mica and Jace survive his controlling ways?

Having read all of Ally Vance's books to date, I can honestly say, hand on heart that Fractured Darkness is by far her best writing yet, an absolutely phenomenal read. Deserves more than 5 stars.

Fractured, in small pieces, fighting emotions…

That's how I felt after reading this book.
This is a great work by Ally Vance and a needed to think about it before I write this review.
Why? Because it felt so true and depth.
Jace, Mica you conquered me with your love story. You both full of trauma, dark feelings trapped in Caleb mad world where pain, violence, sexual innuendos and fear reigns.
If you are one that needs triggers warnings, be aware, this is about stories that are all over the news and right around your corner. Abuse, violence, victims…Darkness.
But she gives her characters the best closure, we could ask in the end.
I love a book, that makes me think of it, feel about it in the end, and this was one of them.
Good job Ally, you getting better book after book.

Ally Vance is an amazing author that keeps getting better & better with each book she writes.

Fractured Darkness is a hard read, but a brilliant 5 star book that tells an emotional story between two brothers and a young girl who only ever wanted to feel safe & loved.

Caleb is twisted he loves to control with mind games & violence through sexual activities and with his fists.

Jace wants to escape and save the girl but is held back by the power and abuse his brother delivers daily.

Mica has a troubled past, an evil aunt and thought she had finally found love and a safe play to be happy, how wrong she was things soon change and the story unfolds into a living nightmare.

This is a very well written story of abuse, rape and total control over your life so be warned in you are looking for hearts and flowers this is not for you!!!!.

Wow Fractured Darkness is by far the darkest story I’ve read by Ally Vance. She writes about subjects that most people can’t write or read about and it sucks you in from the first chapter. Written in the POV of Jace, Mica, and Caleb, you get to read about the twistedness in Fractured Darkness from every characters point of view and you can’t help but feel like you are in the book yourself seeing everything happening. Readers I warn you to heed the warning because it touches on so many triggers for some and may be uncomfortable for others to read. FD is the first book that has given me a book hangover in years but I absolutely loved the darkness that Ally Vance has written!

This grabs you from the very first page and sucks you in deep and doesn't let go because you need to know all the whys. This was dark and very emotional as mind games and torture are played and its vivid so be warned and my heart felt for Jace and Mica as we see the emotional turmoil they are caught in and try to comfort each other as they are alone and trapped with Caleb who is a monster so prepare yourself. The characters are so well written and the story was different and I liked that it keeps you on the edge.

Oh wow, this is a very dark and intense book. It is carefully written and takes you through the turmoil of repeat abuse and torture. The mental & physical abuse that someone inflicts is sympathetically written in such a way that it highlights the nature of the assault. I have read books by Ally before and this does not dissappoint. A difficult subject to write about but she has taken this subject and made a fabulous story out of it and highlighted some horrific things that happen but with twists in it. An amazing book to read xx

Mental as well as physical abuse in its abundance, this story is not for the sensitive, but lovers of dark reads will be drawn in from the very first page. Jace & Mica suffer horrendously by the hands of twisted, Caleb. The hold he has over his victims is powerful and utterly disturbing. Such a difficult and tricky subject, Ms Vance has triumphly handled it with the care and the justice it requires.

Fractured Darkness is just that. This book contains a darkness and Home abuse that maybe a trigger for some.
Mica moves in with her boyfriend Caleb and his brother Jase after having no where else to go.
Things progresses and we learn how controlling Caleb really is.
This book will pull at your hearts strings. You'll be rooting for a character while yelling at them as well.
The author has outdone herself with this book.
