Fueled by dark chocolate and even darker coffee, USA Today bestselling author Jane Henry writes what she loves to read – character-driven, unputdownable romance featuring dominant alpha males and the powerful heroines who bring them to their knees. She’s believed in the power of love and romance since Belle won over the beast, and finally decided to write love stories of her own.
This is not mafia! I went into this story based on the cover, title and brief description that it would be mafia style. While they say they’re in the Bratva and they’re around it. There’s no real feel of it being a mafia style book. The H, Kazimir is HORRIBLE. A real bastard. He abducts the h, Sadie. He treats her like crap. It goes beyond a consensual dom sub style relationship. She’s a captive. He abducted her and he forces her to do things. Within like the first 48 hours he has forcefully rammed a booty plug up her rear. To a girl that had never even been kissed! Oh and she’s not the first one. He’s in the business of KIDNAPPING WOMEN AND “TRAINING” them he calls it. So he’s done this before to many other women who then end up where ever. He has no respect for her and cares nothing about her emotions in his training technique. He’s such a jerk! She was raised in foster care and poor. So when she starts crying when he makes her stand in the corner he doesn’t even process what it means when she tells him she doesn’t like the corner. I wanted to choke and hurt him!!! This book made me so angry. Sadie, what a joke! She does not act in any pattern that would be an assumed role for someone with her last and current situation. Did she shut down? No. Did she drop her desire to live? No. Did she fight him? NO. Did any try anything to get away and punish him? NO! She ends up with a few verbal comments here and there, but otherwise complied with his mean demands. And next thing you know she’s going all Stockholm syndrome and falling for the jerk. Even once he starts to come around to the idea of her, it’s still forced and fake feeling. This book had no love in it. Romance? Nope. None of that either. This book had me so angry wanting to hurt the H and slap and shake the h. Oh and the sex scenes weren’t even hot! They didn’t stir emotions like a scene should. Well, I take that back. They WERE NOT CONSENSUAL. Since she’s his captive he felt he could do what he wanted, touching her sexually and whipping her. She didn’t consent or ask. So yeah, basically sexual assault and rape. But you better believe that moron h got wet!
Once again, Ms. Jane Henry has spun a tale that had me captivated and intrigued as the story unfolds. Nothing everything is as simple as it seems. Intel will have Kazimir with orders to stalk Sadie—what starts as simple encounters, becomes a dinner that leads to an abduction. Now Sadie is held captive by Kazimir.
What a roller-coaster ride of intense action, mystery, suspense, angst, and discoveries. Sadie is a very unassuming woman, dresses so bland to stay hidden that her absence may go unnoticed at first. Kazimir is a handsome and commanding man, one that turns woman’s heads, and not easy to forget. When he asks Sadie to dinner, she is confused but he charms her into going, and that is where this story takes off.
Abducted—kidnapped—and held prisoner, Sadie is so confused, she was a foster kid, has no family, no friends, struggles to make ends meet, so why her? Kazimir has a job to do and orders to follow. If he can train Sadie along the way, that is a bonus—but what he wasn’t counting on was developing feelings for her.
“I do not demand your trust. I demand your compliance.”
The story is a fast-paced, action-pack romantic suspense. It has the good, the bad, and the ugly with life and death situations. Sadie is an innocent virgin who has never been kissed, dated, and when it comes to sex, is very naïve. Kazimir is a jaded man who has used and broken so many women training them that when he is with Sadie, she offers so much innocence and first experiences and he is the one to fulfill them. That doesn’t mean he goes easy on her, she will be punished, spanked, and used, against her will at first, but will acquiesce quickly.
What happens when things don’t work out as the Bratva expected? Is Sadie now a pawn that is no longer needed? What will happen between her and Kazimir? The story does have explicit sex scenes. It does end with a complete ending.
*** 3.25 stars *** I'm refraining myself to give more than this because of fast paced story. When the emotions finally started taking turns the book ended. I mean I just recovered from them getting apart and all of a sudden H has left Bratva, was obviously looking for h and was settling in America.
Let's start from the start. ◾ It's unlike any other mafia romance I've read especially the climax. There were some parts I really didn't expect. ◾ Writing style was average. There were some editing mistakes in my edition. ◾ Character building was good. In a short span of time I got to understand the thinking and nature of both the protagonists. ◾The only problem was it's fast paced storyline. I wish it was a bit longer coz there were some moments which felt like too short. I wanted more of those 😭
I'm not generally into dark romance or BDSM. So I could handle the intensity of this book as the level of Master - Submissive wasn't too high.
“The Bratva’s Baby” is the first release in Jane Henry’s latest series “Wicked Doms” and slightly darker than the authors usual story-line. “The Bratva’s Baby” incorporates elements of the Russian mafia, kidnapping, murder, real-life monsters and nuances of dubious consent. Professionally written and thoroughly engaging with complex characterizations, “The Bratva’s Baby” takes readers on a journey from the depths of despair, to the height of passion and eventually unconditional love. The antihero is a perfect blend of both danger and dominance with enough redeeming qualities to draw you in but with a touch of trepidation. The heroine is a completely sympathetic character who is rational with actions and reactions that are believable as well as genuine. Fast-paced, the story flows seamlessly, filled with suspense and plenty of erotic heat. “The Bratva’s Baby” is the perfect introduction into darker romance for those who might be wary of some of the more austere entries within the genre. Additionally, “The Bratva’s Baby” is a standalone novel with both protagonists POV. I’ll be stalking Ms. Henry impatiently until the next “Wicked Doms” release!
Disclaimer: No Kindles were seriously harmed while reading this novel. Children 18 + only due to sexually explicit content and dubious consent within a BDSM relationship!
Disclaimer for the Disclaimer… The term “seriously harmed” is not intended to include: overheating, scorch marks, minor melting or inconsequential fire that can be put out with an extinguisher. Fire retardant gloves highly recommended while reading. Reviewer is not responsible for run-on sentences, questionable grammar or misplaced commas.
I confess that I no longer understand Jane Henry. When she began writing bdsm/dd fiction, her stories were consensual (A Thousand Yesses, My Dom series), depicted no punishments that left welts or bruises, and included no sexual violence. Like many writers in this genre, over time, she felt she had to up the ante with each story (perhaps to appeal to audiences who like “darker” subject matter?). She introduced non-consent (Claimed on the Frontier), beatings (Aldric), and rape (The Bratva's Bride: “And take her I will”).
Her “heroes” took similar extreme trajectories that often result in physical and/or psychological abuse. In this particular book, the “hero” kidnaps a woman he’s ultimately supposed to “get rid of;” the book implies that he’s done this before. To all the readers who loved this and particularly remarked that they love it “when the jerk turns decent:” just what do you think happened to those women and do you think murderers can be redeemed?
Edited to add: I removed one sentence from my original review that was unfair to other readers who liked this book But, I want to emphasize that my review is my opinion and does not prevent readers who love this author's books from reading them. If you don't like this review, then don't read it, just as I won't read any books that I think I won't like if they have proper disclaimers (in this case, "elements of violence" was not strong enough as it's not at all clear what happens to the women Kazimir "trains").
2nd ETA: Finally, this isn't BDSM and/or DD since it doesn't contain consent. I get that these are fantasies, but it's wrong to misrepresent long-standing, codified practices that real people in the real world engage in. I realize I sound cranky, but it's because I also realize that this is a losing battle.
Couldn’t finish this garbage tale of rape, Stockholm syndrome, and human trafficking. As a lover of reading romance with some steam and spice, this book was just not it. The female main was pathetic with a shitty upbringing and the male as well. Then it talked about how the main male character was used to “teaching” other women... it just smacked of human trafficking and rape. How do you make a male lead hot and yummy when you hear he “gets too bored if they’re too submissive” out of fear, this doesn’t sound like a man who waits for consent. Nor did he get consent when he gave her oral in the beginning. There is no return on building a male character into anything resembling a hero, partner, lover, or anything resembling something positive. You literally just have a rapey, human trafficker, abuser. What is sexy about that? How does this book merit the more than 3 star reviews?

THE BRATVA’S BABY was bewitching. Wickedly Wanton. Edgy and raw. And so intoxicating I am still riding an euphoric high!
I swear Jane Henry ups her game with each new dark romance she pens, and I was transfixed by this enthralling mafia tale from page one . This book truly has all—torrid passion, exciting melodrama, adrenaline pumping suspense, and spine-tingling peril! As for the romance, OMG Sadie and Kazimir’s chemistry was OFF THE CHARTS! Their connection was electrifying—and so tantalizingly kinky I panted my way through their scintillating erotic interludes and scorching hot spanky times!
Gah...talk about a SAVAGELY BEAUTIFUL anti-hero that gives you goosebumps! Kazimir Romanov, brigadier of the Bratva, is big, stern, predatory and oh so powerfully commanding. As the Bratva’s head enforcer, he is man to be obeyed and blood will be shed by anyone who dares to cross him. And I pity the poor soul who tries to harm Sadie, the lovely little librarian whom he’s claimed as his!
Except that’s where things get a tad complicated. Battle lines are drawn as Kazimir is torn between his fierce loyalty to his Bratva family, and his all-consuming feelings for the sweet, shy, achingly innocent captive who inflames his every wicked desire. When he first abducted Sadie, his plan was solidly in place: “Marry her, obtain her inheritance, then get rid of her.” However, for a quiet, reserved wallflower, she sure has a lot of fire lurking inside her and does not comply easily! And truth be told, the cruel, sadistic dominant in him derives immense pleasure in punishing his disobedient prisoner, stripping her of her defiance, mastering her body and soul.
But as hard as he tries to stay cold and detached and keep Sadie from infiltrating his steely defenses, her kind yet feisty disposition and eventual sweet supplication nearly brings him to his knees. He might be her captor but “krasotka,” wields more control over him than he could ever envision. And with time running out, and her pretty neck on the line, he will do anything to protect her. But can Kazimir betray the devil whom he’d sold his soul to long ago?!
As for Sadie, growing up unwanted and unloved in the foster care system, she was a hermit who was riddled with cropping social anxiety. Her one sanctuary was the library and she loved to escape the chaotic world by immersing herself in the glorious books that surrounded her. But from the moment the roguishly alpha Kazimir first snuck up on her in the library on that cold, blustery, winter morning, she could have sworn he stepped out of the pages of one of her swashbuckling romances! His huge, commanding stature and powerful, domineering presence overwhelmed and enticed her all at once. But she foolishly fell prey to his darkly seductive charms and walked right into his sinister trap. For the next thing she knew she was subdued, bound and gagged, whisked away on a plane to his Russian homeland, and TOTALLY at his mercy.
Now, in the blink of an eye, she has been ripped away from her small, safe world and thrust into a petrifying new reality. She’s now Kazimir’s captive, forced to submit or SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES. But while she’s scared by the gruff, intimidating Russian, and resents him for the shocking indignities she’s forced to endure as part of her “training,” she nevertheless finds herself helplessly drawn to her magnetic captor. And as the days blended together and her hope of escape dwindle, a tiny secret part of her aches to disobey his orders to feel the lash of his belt on her hot burning flesh, to allow him to mold her will to his and show her the sweet pleasures of submission! And, shockingly, she’d never felt safer than when she was cosseted in his strong, sheltering embrace.
But can she trust her heart, her VERY LIFE, with this terrifyingly beautiful man who has sworn a lifelong allegiance to brotherhood of Bratva?
Ahh the conundrum!!
I just ADORED the evolution of this romance as we got to bear witness to Kazimir and Sadie falling in love amid a backdrop of danger, violence, treachery and deception. And I especially loved how against all odds these two broken souls become whole again and open each other’s worlds to beautiful new possibilities.
“I lived a dismal life cast in muted gray. With Kazimir, my world has become full, vivid color.”
Bottom line: I really cannot RAVE enough about THE BRATVA’S BABY! I was completely swept up into the dark, dangerous Bratva’s world Ms. Henry created, which sets the stage for future installments of Wicked Doms! My only slight surprise was in regard to how the Bratva plotline eventually unfolded. Once everything came to a head in the final chapters, I was expecting a deadly showdown between Dimitri and Kazimir, with Sadie caught in the bloody crossfire, but the author took a different tact which I will say still had me on the edge of my seat! Just in a slightly different way than I was anticipating. And while I would have enjoyed a slightly grittier climax, where we might have gotten to see the dastardly Dimitri getting his richly deserved comeuppance, overall I was quite pleased with the resolution. Especially in regard to the SWOONY HEA, which made me gloriously happy!
NARRATION: This was an audio listen and Wen Ross’s narration of Kazimir was hypnotizing!!! His deep, raspy, Russian brogue was SO SEDUCTIVELY SEXY, it melted my panties and made me quake with desire! He was perfectly cast as this dark, dangerous antihero and infused Kazimir with a perfect blend of rough-edged male dominance, breathtaking tenderness and fierce protectiveness. I loved how his voice could shift so seamlessly from a harsh growl to soft and soothing, depending on the mood of the scene, and he did an amazing job seguing into the Sadie role too!! Ultimately, Mr. Ross delivered a truly ASTOUNDING audio performance that gave me all the shivery feels!
This book wasn't as dark as I thought it would be. It was more one the lighter side. It's was an easy read. There isn't many things happens in this book. Everything is straightforward and the author handles everything lightly.
I freaking love Jane Henry. I have yet to read anything that hasn't been a hit. Bratva's Baby is a little more than I am used to, Jane brings out her darker side with this book and I LOVED it.
This story has everything you could ever want with a mafia read. Dark, disturbing, alpha male, sweet innocent girl who finds a way to grow up and make it through everything that is thrown at her, a big bad guy, and finally really freaking hot sex! I have to say this will be a reread book for me and I am hoping a paperback comes out to purchase. If you read any of Jane's books make sure it is this one!
Wow. What a ride was that. At first I was not sure if I could totally warm up to the character of Kazimir but last 15% of the book did it to me. At last I honestly understood that he repented and he wanted everything for Sadie. The story is your typical dark mafia romance and I would even say it has a slight Stockholm Syndrome going on there but I am no psychologist.
Fair warning to anyone out to read this there are many trigger points in the story and unless you are ok with reading some dark BDSM work please stay away from this. I went to this blindsided and was quite surprised at the dark elements in it.
Not a good read for me, I struggled with the hero’s past history, I wasn’t convinced he was a changed man. Plus the fact that the heroine is a librarian was cliched and has been done many times, often better than this.
An interesting story; H kidnaps h and marries her to get his hands on her inheritance .. he is heavily into BDSM and is a regular villain; human trafficking, training girls for selling as slaves later ... h is a mousy librarian who supposedly has an inner core of steel that allows her to stand up to H and is a closet masochist; enough so that she and H set sheets to fire and all ... The story was well written but H made a sudden about turn from kidnappy, slave training bad man to someone who adored the h; to me, he did too many bad things ... the slave training girls to be sold to wealthy man just turned me off him; my H has to have something good about him ... this one didn't so when he made a 180 degree about turn and became caring man, I just didn't buy it ... the ending was interesting though; he leaves the bratva so thats something new ...
This book was dark, deviant and delicious!!! Kazimir see Sadie and instantly wants her but there is a game being played. Kidnapped and taken to another country, Sadie has no clue what is going on. During the whole time, Kazimir is torn between following the orders of the head of the family and his ever growing feelings towards his wife, Sadie. I loved the build up of the relationship between them and even though this story had very dark overtones, I just couldn't put it down. I'm hoping that some of the secondary characters will be getting their stories told in the future. I loved this book and HIGHLY recommend it.
I thought this was a simply delicious, dark romance. The stellar combination of an intense storyline and sizzling chemistry will have you engaged and on edge. Kazimir and Sadie's book will have you gasping from he dramatic twists and sweating from the scorching heat. I loved how this couples story evolved and the complexity of the characters themselves. As this is a dark romance there is content that can be a turnoff for some and triggers for others. So please so be aware that this book contains kidnapping and dubious consent. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for more. By my own accord I'm posting a forthright review.
This book has nice mix of dark and light. Sadie is likeable from the beginning. Kazimir takes a little longer to warm up to, but as the author slowly strip away his outer layers he shines as Sadie's dark hero. The story is original and flows really well. I was pulled in from the first page and was sad to see it end. The dark nature of this book was a little different for this author, but she handled it well. I'm definitely looking forward to more from this series.
This is the first book by this author that I have read and I can say with total confidence that it won't be the last. I loved this wicked doms dark romance. This story was new and refreshingly different. Such an awesome read, I read it from beginning to end in one sitting, I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Definitely a must read for all the dark romance lovers out there. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
This book fits the series name to a T! There where so many times I wanted to hate the main character but then something would happen and I couldn't help but fall a little more in love with him! I'm looking forward to reading more in the Wicked Doms series!
The narration was absolutely amazing! Wen Ross did an amazing Russian accent and then switched to a timid female voice seamlessly!
A fast paced, spankilicious Russian mob story that held me captive from start to finish! I took awhile to warm up to the stone cold Russian mobster Kazimir, but his rock solid facade soon falls and we get a glimpse of this caring and gentle hero, who thoroughly revelled in dishing out his punishments to his captive Sadie! I loved the way he cared for Sadie though.. it didn’t take long for the feisty librarian to get under his skin and for her to crave his punishments!!!! The storyline with Dimitri and the reason why Sadie was captured was exciting at the start but I felt as if it fizzled out into the background especially in the end. Overall, this was an enjoyable read that had me swooning!
Well this was a surprisingly fun read! I thought it was going to be dark and gritty, but it turned out to be passionate and dirty (in a good way). I really enjoyed the two main characters, I thought that they were both strong yet caring and I loved the way they went together. They were the perfect pair.
This book has passion and a dom/sub relationship but its also caring and sweet. I liked the balance between the mafia story line and the devolving relationship. Don't worry there is a very sweet HEA! If you have read and liked Island Captive by this author I think you will enjoy this book as well.
Dark, Tantalizing and Sensuous, this enticing and entertaining BRATVA romance is a stunning MUST-BUY! Author Jane Henry’s newest novel, “THE BRATVA’S BABY,” is a dark tale including kidnapping, dubious consent, danger, and a wedding that no one wants, yet it is one of the best Bratva (Russian Mafia) stories I have ever experienced. Yes, experienced! Readers do not merely read a Jane Henry novel as the webs her words weave pull readers so far into that story that for its duration, readers become invested and a part of the story. So descriptive is her prose, readers will feel, smell, hear and experience to such an extent that pages will nearly turn by themselves. Using dual narration, Henry builds reader empathy for her well-developed characters with sheer artistry, introducing some extremely damaged and a-social individuals in a manner that paints them as nearly acceptable, even likable, and hoping for a better future. In “THE BRATVA’S BABY,” Sadie starts out as the stereotypical, mousy, plain-Jane (no relation to the author) yet through the course of events becomes a heroine with the kind of strength she had never imagined for herself. While character-centered and action-packed, the plotlines within “THE BRATVA’S BABY” are both complex and compelling as Henry ratchets up the tension with her amazing prose. It is an emotional roller-coaster that while at times is totally cringe-worthy, “THE BRATVA’S BABY” kept me glued to its pages until the story ended. If you are under the age of 18 or one for whom kidnapping or dubious consent is a trigger, then move on. For those willing to take a plunge into a murky pool that illustrates the redemptive and redeeming influence of love, then “THE BRATVA’S BABY” is your next purchase! I voluntarily read a copy of “THE BRATVA’S BABY” and this is my honest voluntary 5+STAR review. “THE BRATVA’S BABY” is going into the FAVORITES collection on my Kindle because it is going to be read again! I STRONGLY suggest you purchase your copy of “THE BRATVA’S BABY” today! Happy pages! 😉
This latest new series by Jane Henry is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!!!! Certainly on the darker edge of her usual Dom series as this one certainly begins with some dubious elements in play but Jane never lets her readers down and her beautifully developed relationship between Kazimir and Sadie gives you the 'feels' in such a good way.
I loved every minute of this book and fell hard for Kazimir as he and Sadie began to develop what was to become a strong, tender and deep relationship. I have to admit, the narrative and stunning description had me falling for this dark, handsome and dominant man from the beginning. Like Sadie, I questioned at times if this was right or wrong to fall for this man but, Jane Henry does what she does best in this story and allows the depth of character shine through as Kazimir and Sadie realise that passion between them ignited so much more and that fairytales are more than the words on a page.
Sexy, dangerous and definitely sizzling at times, this tale had me under its spell from the very first page to the very end. I love how Jane teases her readers but always gives us a full story and leaves us sinfully satisfied that my only disappointment is that eventually the story has to come to an end. I know this is the first in a new series so I'm looking forward to more Wicked Doms being introduced throughout this series. I certainly hope we see a few more of our Russian friends - they seem like there are many deliciously wicked tales to be told!
Jane Henry’s “The Bratva’s Baby” is another foray for Ms. Henry into the world of darker stories and I loved it. Twenty-one-year-old Sadie Ann Warren is a recluse and about to be kidnapped by the Russian Bratva. Ordered to marry her, Kazmir is prepared to master her in all the ways necessary, but Sadie is much more than she appears and she quickly gets under his skin.
So, it’s hard for me to talk about this story without giving away spoilers, so hoping this makes sense. One of the things I really enjoyed about the story was Sadie herself. Ms. Henry goes into her background enough to show us a young woman who didn’t prosper in the foster system. If anything, she came out of it, none the worse for wear, but it very much shaped who she is. Thrown into this frightening situation with Kazmir, she is surprisingly reticent and pragmatic. Juxtapose her situation against Kazmir’s, who did very much prosper in his much more dire upbringing, creating a much darker individual who eventually sees the shining, bright light that is Sadie. The two characters balance each other out well, which is what really made the story for me. Add in a tightly constructed plot and well-executed interactions and we have the makings of a compelling story that kept me tapping those pages. Lest we not forget that this is a romance (yep, it’s in there) that seems to blindside Kazmir who is equal parts shocked and perplexed that it happened.
Overall, I really liked this story. It ticked all the boxes for me and set the tone for my expectations for what I hope will be a long and prosperous series.
I have to say at the beginning of this book I did not like the hero Kazimir. He was a douche of the first order. Now he did nothing physical to her I just felt he played with her mind. But don’t worry it all changes. Now Sadie won my heart. She was such a sweet person but also sad. She stayed away from people as much as possible until a whirlwind named Kazimir blew into her life and nothing and I mean nothing would ever be the same.
