I Wrote You a Poem

I Wrote You a Poem (I Wrote You Every Poem) is Kristina Mahr's sophomore poetry collection, picking up the themes explored in It's Only Words but carrying them even further, even deeper, to the outer stretches of love and heartbreak.

Let me tell you how wide it is,
let me tell you how deep it is.

Kristina Mahr is a Chicago-based author and poet known for her ability to capture raw emotion in prose. With four published novels and an extensive collection of poetry to her name, she has built a reputation for distilling complex feelings into words that resonate. Her greatest reward as a writer is creating those moments of profound connection - when readers find their own unspoken truths reflected in her words, transforming solitary feelings into shared experiences. When not writing, she enjoys drinking tall glasses of iced tea, reading, and waking up at the crack of dawn every weekend to watch the Premier League.

Kristina is represented by Kaitlyn Katsoupis at Belcastro Agency.

This one got me. A lot of these poems felt like they crawled out of my own chest—just real and exactly what I didn’t know I needed. The writing has this quiet rhythm to it that somehow punches you in the gut without yelling. I swear I highlighted more lines than I left untouched. And honestly, reading it made me feel a little less alone in my relationship—like, okay, it’s not just me. Other people feel this too. Definitely a book I’ll keep flipping back to when I need to feel seen.

I WROTE YOU A POEM

Her words are stunning. Captivating. Truly. The author has a lyrical way with words. She speaks of heartbreak with a longing ache. I felt the loneliness. The want. The need. Her words are like a siren’s call. Alluring in its depths and vastness. Whether or not you’re currently in the throes of heartache, I would recommend this.

Reading Kristina’s poetry is such an immersive experience that finishing the book felt like a sort of waking up. Reality, alas, was nowhere near as lovely.

I am beyond surprised that she is not more widely known. She is a stunning talent and I look forward to introducing friends and family to her work. ❤️

I honestly don't understand the hype. While I think there were a handful of good poems, overall the 264 page book felt repetative and juvenile. I am not sure I would call most of these poems; they lacked lyricism. It felt a lot like high school break-up poems. I wasn't as moved by them. Sure, there were relateable moments, heartbreak is universal, but the poet said nothing new about it.

Beautiful

Every word is amazing and I want to read them over and over again. Everything that is written is honest and real

Isn't it cruel
if I had one hundred lives to live,
I would want to live
everyone one of them with you.

And isn't it cruel,
isn't it cruel
that the only one I get-

I have to live
without
you.

Kristina Mahr's collections of poetry should come with a WARNING sticker slapped right on the front. A small one though. Because this cover is life.
I fell in love with Mahr's It's Only Words and how masterfully she threw dagger after dagger into my tender heart.
This book is no exception.
Mahr is destined to be a poet whose work shall be studied in college dorms and high-school classrooms. There is wisdom and beauty woven between each delicate poem. With this second collection, Mahr cements herself as a shining artist in this dull world.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hold a human heart? To feel each pulse it gives?
Then hold this book in your hands.

PS: Check out her Instagram if you want more delicious words.
