Riley is the too shy, too smart 15 year old junior who transfers to Dalton High. He prefers books to people because they are easier to understand. He's lonely, awkward and it's not fine, but he's used to it. Enter Austin, the older classmate who befriends him. See the thing is, Riley's used to life sucking and this confusing, gorgeous boy makes him want to step out of his comfort zone. Now he has to find the courage to stop pining or fumble a shot at happiness with the first friend he's ever had, who he is completely in love with.
This is a sweet story, but it definitely needs an editor. The tenses bounce back and forth, sometimes even in the same paragraph, which makes for a very distracting read.
Nice coming of age story. Some issues with grammar/ tense (skips between past and present in the same sentence) which spoiled the read a little, hence the 4* rating.
Set in 2011, it was so interesting to see how much technology has changed and influenced our lives in less than 10 years. I loved the awkwardness and insecurity of the MC. It’s such a tough time high school and it was captured so well. It happened all so naturally and when they finally got together, so sweet. Tut tut referencing a Pixies song and only mentioning the cover artist. Some typos so I did have to read over those bits a few times to ‘translate’.
This is very similar to a John Hughes' high school teen romance in modern day when being gay or having two dads is no longer a social issue. There's no offensive tragedy or bullying in this story. There's jealousy and just little consensual underage sex. New kid with low self esteem fated to meet a high spirited hottie settles to suppress his crushing desire instead of ruining an ongoing friendship which he never had before. I'm glad for the happy ending.
Almost 4 stars for me. The book was actually flowing very well I thought and the character development was moving at a good pace but then the end of the book just felt rushed together to tie it all up. It was a a good book, I hate instant everything stories, and I will definitely see what else the author has available.
The premise of this story is very sweet, it could be a winner but it needs an editor to get it into shape. The story almost reads like a first draft. With an editor helping the author revise both the story arc and the writing I would be recommending this book, as it is I don't feel I can.
Story was great. Writing, not so much. Can't decide if it wants to be present or past tense. Also tons of grammatical errors. Needs an editor. I did love the story, though.
Ughh this was soooo good!! I adored this story from beginning to end. 4.5 rounded up to 5 for the utter beauty of this story. This story is so sweet and lovely and beautiful and all the nice things. The characters are adorable and it's all I could ever want from a YA book.
I enjoyed reading this book. I understand the high school crush. Been there done that.😇 very enjoyable. The only thing I felt that it was well written, but there was a lot of leap frogging into the future and things are left out or missed by that.
