The Lost Sentinel #2

Awakened And Betrayed

Rate this book
My name is Vinna and I am a Sentinel.
I’m the last in a line of a hunted, magical race, coveted and killed for our power and abilities.
I was hidden and protected, but now that I’ve been found, it’s a race to see who can command and control me.
Joke’s on them, I bow to no one.
I need to master my magic, and protect the five guys I’ve marked as my own at all costs.
Because the line between friend and foe is dangerously blurry, and I’m collecting enemies like Sentinels collect runes.
It’s time to prepare for battle, claim my place, and get ready to fuck up anything or anyone that comes for me and my Chosen.

Authors Note: This is the second book in The Lost Sentinel Series and ends with a cliffhanger. This book is a medium burn Reverse Harem story, intended for ages 18 years and older. This book contains swearing, graphic sex, and violence.

Ivy Asher is addicted to chai, swearing, and laughing a lot (but not in a creepy, laughing alone kind of way). She loves the snow, books, and her family of two humans, and three fur-babies. She has worlds and characters just floating around in her head, and she's lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing people who support that kind of crazy.

I feel I have been super nitpicky these past few days as my reviews have shown but this here...this was just too much.

I loved the first book, I thought the heroine was a total badass because she was a fighter and she didnt let the guys in her harem walk all over her, the only issue I had in that book was that the guys were a little bit childish. This book dialed that childishness x10, it drove me crazy. They were always laughing, god dammit , it drove me crazy. I feel like the grinch or something but you have to read this book to understand the horror. There were snickers, guffaws, chuckles, chortles, snorts, snickers, they laughed so hard they had tears running down their eyes, stitches in their sides and all the things that happens with too much laughter. I seriously never thought I will ever have a problem with laughter. 😤😤😤😧😫

Nothing happens in this book, I kid you not. Nothing happens. She trains with another coven and laughs anytime her guys are in the picture. I am so freaking pissed. This is where this series and I part ways.✌

After my rave 5 star review of book 1 you might be wondering what the hell has happened ? I asked myself this same question so many times when I was reading this and I’m not even sure I can come up with an answer.

Now Ivy Asher is a new author so I’m bringing out kind me because Ivy has such potential and I really don’t like to discourage new authors – I promise I don’t!

So where did it all go wrong…

The bar was set high – I really did enjoy this world in book 1. Vinna was kicking ass and everything was peachy. Then right away in the first chapter she gets ripped from her chosen and has to live elsewhere. So we don’t even get the harem members featuring until half way through

Not ideal

Vinna’s attitude went from – I’m a bit defensive and guarded to any and all interactions will end with you at knifepoint.

The confusing harem. As usual I had forgotten any and all names/characteristics of the harem members. Now there is a subtle art to recalling a readers memory on past events, and unfortunately Ivy hasn’t mastered this yet. Its cool I’m being nice just something to work on. Even now a week later I cannot recall the names of these guys so maybe their personalities need to be a little more defined too! Because Vinna was removed from her chosen for the first half we are introduced to a whole new set of guys and I wasn’t sure where I now stood on the harem. Are they gonna be added or is she gonna end up killing them all in a fit of rage?

It wasn’t all bad. The cliff-hanger albeit a dosey, is defiantly going to make me read on. There was a lot of good training sessionand the steam went up a notch. So I’ll continue on but I was just a little let down after the epic start

This started as a possible DNF, but I pushed through. Then morphed into a possible 2 star read, I continued to read though. Final, final-3 Stars.

I clearly have a love/hate thing with this series. Meaning, sometimes I hate it and want to DNF it, but something keeps pulling me back in.

My biggest complaint is that the MC is both a special snowflake and Mary Sue all while being Such. A. Bitch. She spends much of the first part of the book being stubborn, angry, judgmental, abrasive. Just not cool, but EVERYBODY wants her. Why? I couldn’t figure it out. Lots I couldn’t figure out. Just how many men will be in this harem? Somebody tell me what’s happening here!

The last 20-30% brought more story in and that cliffhanger... well now I’m just curious to have all my questions answered. I worry though. Cause, you know. Curiosity. And the cat.

After eagerly awaiting this book, I was terrified to read it! Why you ask??? Because then I would FINISH it! And it happened...and now I’m dying for book 3! Awakened and betrayed was every bit as good, as The Lost and the Chosen! Vinna is as bad a...errr kick a...well she’s as tough as ever!! And all I can say about Torrez is; Yes!! Bring on the shifter!!

Awakened and Betrayed is the second installment within The Lost Sentinel series. I last read the first book back in 2019. For some super odd reason, I never re-read it before jumping into this one. Sort of regret that since I didn't really remember much of what happened before.

Even though I didn't remember anything, I still somehow ended up liking this. Maybe it's a miracle because I have a feeling that doesn't really happen to anyone else. If I ever decide to jump into the next book, well, I will be jumping back in time to re-read the first book. Just so I can get a huge refresher course of what has happened to better prepare myself.

Other than that, we do get to see Vinna bond a bit more with her guys. This definitely made me happy because when would that ever make me sad? Or anyone else? We also get some manipulation and drama happening throughout as well. It was entertaining from start to finish; However, I have lots of unanswered questions.

Maybe I'll get them mostly answered by re-reading the first book before the next one. Maybe I won't. Either way, I will need to find out because I just want to know what is going to happen next. It will definitely end up bugging me until then.

The first challenge Vinna has to deal with in book 2 is a custody hearing. Since her relationship with her uncle is ruined, her Chosen put in a Bond request to the council in the hopes they can be responsible for her until she is Awakened (and thus considered an adult in caster society). Unfortunately, while the council decides, she is temporarily housed with Elder Cleary's son's coven - a move Vinna sees for the manipulation it is. Learning how to use her magic is the one good thing that happens while in their care which is important as enemies are still trying to get their hands on her.

Still hooked on this series. A few new characters are introduced and the existing ones have been developed a bit more. Vinna bonds with a few of her guys. What's not to like? There is a bit of cliffhanger - can I call it that? It's more of a head-scratcher. - at the end that introduces a whole new set of questions that of course, I want answers to. Book 3 comes out in a couple of days and I'll be reading it!

This certainly played out in a direction I wasn’t expecting as Vinna now deals with her fragile emotional state after all that has previously occurred and been revealed. The fallout from her wanting to be away from her guardians not playing out like she thought it would. Now separated from her men and under the control of the Castor elders Vinna realises everyone here has their own hidden agenda when it comes to her and her constantly emerging talents.

This second book was enjoyable and well written, everyone here begins to grow closer building and forging bonds together and there are now some other elements added into the mix. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of the wolf shifters and their Beta Torrez he definitely added an unknown variable to the whole dynamic and I’m intrigued to learn more when it comes to him.

Elsewhere we get some secrets revealed and fresh dangers emerging pebble Vinna’s initial idiotic bodyguard proves just where his loyalty lies actually surprising me. This one also cranked up the heat and was way spicier than its predecessor. This then finished with an unexpected reveal that I wasn’t expecting so it will be interesting to see what happens with this going forward and just what it all means for the gang.

3.5, but unsure whether to go up or down!

Overall this was a disappointing second book in comparison to the first. It did seem to drag on a bit and not a massive amount happened.

Vinna being controlled by the Elders got old really quick. There really was no reason for her to allow them to control her.

I struggled to remember a lot about the guys, and while I remember them feeling pretty distinct from one another in the first book, but they didn't seem to have much individual personality in this one.

I would still recommend this book, as the first was excellent and this wasn't bad, just not as a good, but I'm hoping the third will go back to the standard of the first.

What are these new marks

For someone who has had such a hard life you would think she has more common sense. She has too many TSTL moments for my tastes and even though the book is interesting enough I find it hard to have enough curiosity to pick up the next book.

DNF at 82%

I really tried, but I just got tired waiting for the plot to pick up. As it was finishing book one was hard for me because of how easily the guys fell for her and how perfect they all seemed but the end with the lamia and the drama of her past I had higher hopes for book 2. I thought that the second installment of the series would finally pick up the pace, but nope. Not only that, but the relationship fell into place too fast for that to be the main reason for me to be interested, not to mention it got annoying that every guy was attracted to her/wanted her. I know that it is RH, I love RH books but give me some variety here not everyone needs to love her for the reader to think that she is an awesome character. The book just continued to drag on and at 82% still she wasn't investigating anything (possible betrayal of the elders or leads with the lamia) and there was no action outside of practicing with her powers. Side note: awesome that this author actually writes about the character practicing with their powers and not just winging it when in battle, but maybe stop making her a natural at everything? Everything just came too easily for her.

Love this series!

I am in love with this series so far - the dynamic between the characters, the growth and the interplay... it makes for a compelling read and a fantastic story. Vinna has heart and courage, along with her amazing abilities as a Sentinel - add in her Chosen, and the cauldron of goodness just gets better!

Pros:
- very well written
- well edited
- Character development
- Torrez... he comes out of nowhere! 😉💕
- Surprises and twists aplenty
- Descriptive language that paints instead of tells
- Truly interesting and unique, a completely fresh tale instead of a rehash of familiar themes.

Cons:
- The guys sometimes feel superfluous to the narrative
- Cliffhanger
- Book 3 is without a publication date yet.

Fantastic

The first book was awesome and I hoped book two would match up. At this point I think it might have actually been better. The story was smoother, the characters better developed and wow, did the plot move along at a steady clip. Downside? Another cliffhanger, but this time it's more than a few days for the next book! Oh well, totally worth the read and I'll just use the time between now and book 3 as an excuse to re-read 1 and 2 when it comes out :)

What a ride!!

And what an ENDING!!! Omgomgomg. I really loved this book (as if there was any doubt) and feel like our baby sentinel grew. Vinna has always been self reliant and can (and does!) kick ass with her weapons.. but she really grows up when she can show how powerful she is by being vulnerable and listening to others. Such a great story and can’t wait to see where it takes us next!

3.5 🌟, this had a fast pace at the beginning and end, very slow, and not much going on in the middle. I do like the characters and the magic system. It could have been probably 70 or so pages shorter.

This story continues to keep me enraptured though, in a whole different way this go round. We definitely have nonstop gogogo here in book 2. Nothing like the down time we got in book one. We really didn't get as much time with our gang as I would have liked but at the same time it totally makes sense. There was alot of reveals happening here in book 2 as well as some unreal surprises that delighted me beyond measure... Yea but I don't want to spoil all the yummy goodness!

We start the book pretty much where we left off.. but there has been a little healing time for Vinna after the tragedy in the last book. Now Vinna and the boys are called in front of the council for a reckoning. Only, that isn't what happened and now Vinna has been separated from her chosen.. and by all that is holy she lets them know about it. Vinna is fit to be tied for sure and seems really hostile through most of the book as well as coming across like a total bad A. She knows she can't trust anyone around her, that everyone is trying to use her to their own end. Good lord she doesn't make it easy that is for sure. Vinna realizes pretty quick the only way to get some semblance of freedom is to Awaken.. so that's what she does. Vinna also comes to the conclusion that there are others she is drawn to.. As the betrayals come to a fever pitch here in book 2 Vinna brings the culprits out of hiding. Thats not all she has brought out of hiding though.. Vinna might not be the last of her kind..

In it to win it and can't wait for the next in the series. I'm hoping in the next book Vinna gets some time with her guys.. including any new peeps she has gotten on the way (wink, wink).

How did that happen? The second is better than the first!

How in the world did that happen? I loved the first book, hooked me from the start. Book two, even better! We get a few answers, more drama, action, movement on the sex front, and what even one more added!! This was just awesome guys. I am all over the place with what I want to say, but I can’t think of anything except, get this, read it and then read it again it was so good!!

What?

I feel so betrayed from that ending. I mean WTF???? How can I love with having to wait so long for the next book to come out? I need it like asap! This book was amazing just like the first one I read in this series. It was beautifully well written and I need more now! I'm still reeling from that ending but oh what a intriguing ending it was! I love all these guys so much and if I could give this book more than a 5 star review I would! Hurry up June. I need that 3rd book!

WOW!

The only negative thing I have to say about this book is that I finished it and I wasn't ready for it to be over. This is a work of perfection. Amazing characters, completely captivating story line and awesome twist and turns make this one a must read! The only thing else I can say is I NEED BOOK 3!

Intriguing

While there lacks a lot of world building and character building, which is frustrating since the description of a single room can take up an entire page, I'm all about this series. I'm hooked and am hating that I have to wait for book 3 to see exactly wth is going on with the markings.

What the hell am I reading. I feel like 80% of the book is about boy 1-6 and 20% is plot.

I really don’t like Vienna’s way of speaking and I get so confused with all the boys in her life there’s just no way she can keep it straight. The plot weakened in this book and I don’t particularly care to keep reading.

Fuck me. The ending of this book is really fucking compelling me to start the next one immediately. But. Alas. I am merely mortal. And sleep is still unfortunately required.

I’m really enjoying the storyline so far. And all the crazy shit that happened in this book really threw me. A lot of it changed the characters whole course of action and dynamic and I am soooooo excited and eager to find out what the hell happens next.

If only this series wasn’t single POV.
*sigh*
I guess a good story, characters I love, good sex, AND all of those characters’ POV is just a little too much to ask for though.
Oh well.
The action packed storyline and Vinna’s badassery distracts me enough to not pine for those other POVs too much or too often.

….I really want to crack the next book open and find out what the fuck is going on now.
The need for rest is such a nuisance at times. I swear.

*3.5?
Most of my critiques from The Lost and the Chosen still apply to Awakened and Betrayed, as do my positive comments. I will say that the audiobook for this helped immensely, although I’m not quite sure why.
While I don’t have much else to say in regard to this book, I do want to mention that I really like that Vinna and her guys actually talk about things. I find lack of communication to be a problem in quite a few romance books, so it’s nice to see them be able to talk with each other. It’s definitely not perfect, but it’s something.
Also I kinda like Torrez ngl.
