*I received this book from the publisher.*

Really interesting and compelling short story collection with an assortment of genres. The stories are mostly rooted in the "real world" but with elements of sci-fi or fantasy sprinkled in. Some stories are more heavily sprinkled than others! Some sex scenes as well, if that interests you. Nothing super graphic, but definitely not for children.

From Run Amok Books, this is "Frida Sex Dreams & Other Unnerving Disruptions," by Theodore Carter. Emphasis on Unnerving. Very interesting spins and twists in some really weird stories. Not so twisted to make this bizzaro, but these are out there.

This is a collection of several genres blended together. Bits of Sci-Fi, drama, odd, and erotica at times. Not full fledge erotica, but a couple selections get a little spicy at times. And it’s full of humor. A lot of tongue-in-cheek humor.

There is a story poking a little fun at former President Jimmy Carter. Yea, that is sort of random. History lesson for you. Jimmy Carter is known to have reported seeing a UFO in Georgia when he was governor in the late 60’s, 1969 I believe. So the story in this collection, “The 39th President and the 14th Tentacle" pokes a little fun with a “What If” scenario, where Jimmy Carter has these conversations with these Aliens, which to me reminds me of the Aliens that are always on "The Simpsons." If you’ve ever watched a "Treehouse of Horrors" Episode, you know what I’m talking about.

The title story, "Frida Sex Dreams," is a bit on the erotic side with a guy obsessed with the Mexican Painter Frida Kahlo, more so making references to her unibrow. And her husband Diego Rivera shows up, and the whole story is an acid trip. It’s a fever nightmare. Before it turns into a story of 2 people trying to find themselves again.

That is just an example of what you get with this collection. A story starts out one way and you think you know the way it’s going, just before it flips, changes directions completely.

The Fifty Foot Woman is a hoot. It shows the transformation of a woman, growing. Interesting take on something horrific.

Those are just samples of what you’ll get.

It’s a fresh group of stories. And I can appreciate that a lot. I like oddities, and weirdness, and things that go against the norm. It’s refreshing to discover a writer willing to do just that, to not stay in one lane. And a Publisher to take a chance on that writer.

Frida Sex Dreams & Other Unnerving Disruptions, a collection from Theodore Carter, released from Run Amok Books, 2019. A collection of off-the-wall, quirky stories with twisted endings, mixed with a little darkness. At times people’s darkest desires are revealed, maybe making you question humanity as a whole.
