DNF at 50%… I didn’t find this story horrible, yet it just didn’t hold my attention the more it went on.

I was initially excited about the characters and thought their first meeting and conversation was really charming and witty. The heroine immediately falls in love with the hero and is determined to win his love. She was a sweet, cheerful, honest heroine with one special ‘memory recall’ trait.

But the more that the story went on, the more emphasis was put on the heroine’s special memory recall ability. The quirk was ok and unique, but every time the heroine started spouting off facts, the more she would apologize about how boring and weird she was due to this trait. It was a bit overkill, to mention it so bluntly over and over. It got to the point I was imagining her as a female Rainman-type and I couldn’t see her as a romantic leading lady. Especially after it was told that she broke her arm at 17 years old, jumping off of a roof and landing in a wheelbarrow of hay (to see if she could fly).

Regardless, the next book in the series is a perfect story on my keeper shelf!

This book tells the story of Claire, granddaughter of a Duke, who falls in love with Colin, the bastard son of a viscount and a treasure hunter who sells archaeological finds to collectors. We have met Claire before now, and she has been portrayed as a vacuous sort of chatterbox. Now we find out she is actually a person with an eidetic memory, and her social behaviours are calculated to hide this. She feels she is a freak.
Colin was a bit wishy washy (he doesn’t want to love her because he won’t cope if he loses her. For goodness’ sake, deal with it!) and she did most of the chasing, which I don’t enjoy.
Well-written but the MCs annoyed me too much a lot of the time. She tried too hard and he wasn't worth it.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a cute and funny historical romance! Wicked With The Scoundrel was less angsty and fluffier than the first two books in the series. The tone of the story worked so well with the main characters, especially Lady Claire, who is such an unusual romance heroine. Lady Claire has an eidetic memory – she remembers everything and the only way she can process her memories is by creating ordered lists. Many people find her unusual and so did Colin – but he loved her all the more for it. I was a little unsure about Colin at first because he was severely (and understandably) prejudiced against aristocrats. He had trouble accepting the fact that he liked Claire, but I love how he gradually fell in love with her. Claire is such a unique, quirky, loveable, and endearing character and Colin easily saw her for the woman that she is.

The whole treasure hunt part of the story was unreal and far fetched, but it worked out really well with the kind of story that Ms. Bright was trying to tell. However, it did feel as if the relationship moved forward a little too quickly. I was initially worried about Colin’s overprotectiveness because it’s such a common trope that many historical romance authors use as a barrier between couples. Thankfully, this trope took an unexpected turn, mostly because of Claire. I should have known it would turn out differently because Claire herself is such a unique heroine. I was pleasantly surprised by how things turned out in the end.

I also LOVE the secondary characters, especially Nate and Wessex. The entire scene with the men teaching Colin how to dance killed me with laughter. That being said, I do feel that Claire’s family wasn’t as fleshed out as the other secondary characters – they felt like wallpaper characters even though her father had a couple of important scenes. I find it strange that we didn’t even know she had a brother until 83% of the book. Regardless, I really enjoyed this book and I am SO excited for the next book!!! I have waited for Eliza and Wessex’s book for soooo long!!! I can’t wait!!

DNF at 39%.

Colin Smith has been off travelling the world having adventures, just the way he like it. But he has been forced to return to London to raise more money. He has been asked by the Marquess of Chatwell to humour his eccentric daughter Lady Claire Harrison's search for buried roman treasure by 'finding' some jewellery that he has recently buried, in return the Marquess will fund Colin's next treasure hunt.

Lady Claire Harrison is somewhat socially awkward, she has a perfect memory and if left unchecked will tell someone the details of each and every time she has been to a venue (or any other occurrence). She is clearly intended to be portrayed as extremely intelligent if misunderstood and lacking in social skills (think Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory).

I tried with this book but I just couldn't get into the writing, it felt artificial as if the author was talking in a fake English aristocratic accent as she wrote the book. I thought both Colin and Claire were unlikable characters and the insta-lurve that Claire experienced didn't ring true - why would she fall in love with such a boorish man?

I picked the book up again to give it one last chance and nope, just couldn't carry on.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Colin Smith is back in England, much to his disgust, after 10 years in India and Egypt. He hopes to sell treasures he found and find a patron that will enable him and his business partner Debananda "Deb" Mukherjee to return to Egypt and hopefully discover even greater treasure. His hope is to capture the attention of the Marquess of Chatwell, who is a collector of antiquities and rich.

Lady Claire Harrison, daughter of the Marquess of Chatwell, has accompanied her father to see Colin's treasures, Claire has an eidetic memory and remembers everything, every boring, mundane moment of her life. She longs for excitement and adventure, but is resigned to her quiet life - until see lays eyes on Colin and falls in love at first sight. Claire is not stupid, she knows that Colin is not suitable as a prospective groom and that her father will never approve, so she comes up with a plan - she will help him find the lost treasure of Scipio which includes the Cleopatra emerald - he will be rewarded and recognized by the crown and then her father would allow him to marry her! Now all she has to do is convince him to "help" her find the treasure and marry her.

Colin is interested in the treasure, but not Claire - or any lady in the "ton", he has no love for the nobility. His mother was a ladies man and was raped by her employer's husband and cast out when she learned she was pregnant. Colin reached out to his father when he was a young man and was told in no uncertain terms, that he was not going to help him. Colin's bitterness against the nobility runs deep, but Claire is different and he likes her - but he still won't help her.

Claire's father requests a meeting with Colin and makes him an offer he can't refuse. Help Claire find treasure - fake treasure - and the Marquess will become his patron. Colin agrees, but underestimates Claire's determination to have Colin find the treasure and marry her.

This is a well written, amusing, uncomplicated, quirky story with very likable characters, warm love scenes, treasure, secrets, lies, wonderful secondary characters and a sweet HEA, complete with an epilogue. This is the 3rd book in the series, but I have not read the previous books and had no issues whatsoever.

*I am voluntarily leaving a review of an eARC that was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher.*

I think my favorite part of this book was Mr. Mukherjee explaining to Claire that India being under British colonization is no better than if they were under French rule. I just wish that conversation had been a little more pointed. Claire's dumfoundedness in that scene was appalling and really irritating. I know that in histroms, we regularly ignore the reality of where the tea and sugar are coming from but when the subject is raised, I'd rather it go all in. This wasn't my favorite of the series, I liked the first 2 books a lot better. This was a weird one where I liked the hero more than the heroine and found her to be kind of annoying every time she insisted that money is not all that important. I think it's really only people with great wealth who get to make absurd claims like that.

Wicked With the Scoundrel by Elizabeth Bright is book Three in the Wicked Secrets Series. This is the story of Colin Smith and Claire Harrison. I have read the previous books, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Colin mother was raped by a title holding man which set the tone for his dislike for the 'Town'. So when he has to return to sell his treasures he doesn't plan on doing anything else. Claire and her father have a chance to see Colin, and Claire is very smitten. So board with the life on the Town she goes to think up a way that she can get Colin and her father's approval for Colin to ask her to marry him. Enjoyed their story.

I loved this book! It was such fun. Lady Claire Harrison, daughter of the Marquess of Chatwell sees Colin Smith and it is love at first sight, for her at least.. He has spent 10 years away from her type of simpering miss. But, Claire was no simpering Miss, which would soon be found out. This story was an delightful adventure to read. They were such wonderful characters. I could not put it down and will be reading more of Elizabeth Brights books. I highly recommend this book.

UGH. I had such high hopes that this author (one I have read and loved before) would break my 2019 curse of only reading 3 star (or less) books. But unfortunately, this was another three star read.

It started off so promising. We meet Colin - an adventure hunter, and Claire - a girl who remembers absolutely everything. When Claire takes it in her head to find a lost treasure she once heard about and tries to enlist his help I was hooked. I remained interested when her father petitioned Colin to help her on this "fools errand", and I was even more encouraged when they actually manged to work together to find it. Their banter was amazing. The supporting characters (even those from other stories) kept my interest. I was 100% invested in their love story.

And then Colin went stupid. And he seemed to think only of himself and forget all of the reasons why he fell in love with her in the first place (even if she is prone to moments of life threatening stupidity). And then we got this drivel of how he's going to basically manipulate her into doing what he wants, only to be shocked when she goes against him. Did you hear my eyes roll?

I will never understand why an author takes such strong and amazing characters and then de-evolves them into mere shadows of themselves (although I will say Claire showed more backbone than I would have thought possible).

Overall, I know this story will be a fan favorite (the 4 and 5 star reviews ahead of mine cement this). And I would read more from this author. I just wish she wouldn't fall into such cliche moments.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

I adored this book. I'm such a fan of smart heroines, and for all her naivety, Claire was more than a match for Colin. When it came down to it, she wasn't afraid to fight for not only the adventure she craved, but the man she loved. I'm going to go back to get the first two in the series, because although they're not required to read this, I loved the characters and the writing so much. I look forward to reading more from Elizabeth Bright in the future.

I thought this was going to end sooner than it did.

This charming regency romance has a heroine with an eidetic memory and a bastard treasure hunter. The plot seems to have 2 parts; I felt that the first story arc was progressing quickly and wondered what else could happen. Call them love at first sight, and part 2- love grown into young adulthood.

The intimate scenes have open doors. There is a short note from the author about the unpleasant beginnings of archaeology that made up for the uncomfortable choice of the hero's profession.

Wicked with the Scoundrel
by Elizabeth Bright
One fast paced adventure that leads to the only treasure worth it’s weight in gold. Lady Claire is unconventional daughter of the Marquise of Chatwell. Looking for adventure to break with her very staid life. She’s instantly hit by Cupid’s arrow and vows to make the object of her heart -Colin Smith- to fall hopelessly in love with her......he just doesn’t know it yet.
Colin Smith isn’t happy to be back on English soil he only wants to sell his treasure and be on his way again. But first he needs the Marquise of Chatwell to fund his new venture. Only one catch he needs to take Claire on a treasure hunt, easy peasy until Claire pulls a fast one on him and snatches his heart.
A heartwarming tale that keeps the reader entertained. Funny and witty dialogue, plenty of chemistry make this a pleasure to read.
I recieved a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

New to me author and what a pleasant surprise, interesting, unusual and lighthearted - an unusual and very welcome combination.

Aristocrat Lady Claire Harrison is the daughter of a Marquess and granddaughter to a Duke, She has a eidetic memory and remembers everything that has ever happened to her in exact detail, she is bored of her safe, well bred, comfortable yet sheltered life, she longs for adventure.

Colin is the illegitimate son of a viscount and a ladies maid, Unrecognised by his father, who has assaulted his mother,, Colin has a certain level of disdain for the aristocracy. He has returned to England with his Indian business partner Debananda (Deb), and his sister Riya. Colin is keen to sell as many artefacts as possible to support himself and his mother. He has Claire’s father in mind, and follows him to Bath.

Claire is instantly fascinated by Colin’s recounting of his adventures and the fact that he let a woman, accompany him, and she falls head over heels for him. She decides she wants to marry him, and in her logical and ordered way decides she needs to ensure he is a suitable parti, so that her parents will approve the match. She decides that the best way to make this happen, is for him to become rich, and she hatches a plan to search for ancient treasure together in Bath.

Claire is an unusual heroine, who calmly and logically takes control of her destiny, which I loved. I also found the way Colin’s disdain for her turns to admiration and then fascination. There were some great humorous set pieces, and Claire had lots of agency, without being headstrong or too impetuous, which is pretty rare in this type of book.

What I loved about this book was the way that Ms Bright wrote her characters, They were not impossibly perfect, I.e. unbelievably good looking, rich, intelligent, selfless, kind paragons, they were normal, likeable people with their own foibles. Colin had a big chip on his shoulder about being illegitimate, and Claire’s photographic memory and logical souls mean that she is socially awkward and fond of listing things to people in conversation. These quirks really endeared the characters to me, and it was incredibly refreshing to read about two characters who fell for each other quickly and didn’t spend too much time denying their feelings for each other. The inevitable angst and misunderstandings were elegantly resolved, and the romance was very satisfying. I also was pleasantly surprised by handling of the Indian characters in this, who avoided quite a few, if not all, of the normal cliches used for POC usually found in Regency romances.

I will definitely check out Elizabeth Bright’s backlist.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Soooo, it was a fun afternoon read for sure. If I'm honest, this book deserves 3,5 star, not a 3.

There were a lot of things which I liked very much, but almos always there were something attached to these positive things, which made it a one time read. I'll try to explain this, because it probably seems messy and incomprehensible.

POSITIVE side:
Lady Claire is not a usual pale and helpless english lady, with tragical background. No, she's loved, she has money, she is brave, maybe too brave and reckless for her father's taste, and she has a very precise memory. Claire remembers everything. I really loved this about her, that she had a condition, which made her a little bit unpopular amongst the other ladys, but she still had friends.

NEGATIVE side:
The author introduced this condition very early, so we already got a lot of information about it in the beginning, but why? This wasn't an important quality. She didn't need this memory to look for the hidden treasures. She only needed some reading. What I want to say, that beyond her little bit awkward social appearances, this particular attribution was pointless. I wanted this to be important if the author has already told a lot about it.

POSITIVE side:
I liked the thinking of Colin. I did not fall in love with his character but that's ok. In the beginning he loved the idea that Claire is different, that she's smart and adventurous.

NEGATIVE side:
After they begin their arranged treasure hunt, he became sooooo protective... he basically feared that poor Claire will break in the fresh air. I get it, she's noble, her father want him to oversee her and protect her from an already safe treasure hunt but she's not made of egshell. I just wanted him to remain himself after he started this with Claire. I wanted him to support her, and be glad that both of their passion was the same thing, but nope... here he comes... Mr. Overprotective.

All in all, I liked this book, but it was a one time read for me. The treasure hunt, the historical and the cultural elements made the setup fresher. I liked the personality of the characters, even if they made me frustrated sometimes. The dynamic was there, but the emphasis wasn't.

England is not his home, at the age of sixteen Colin left it behind, he was the illegitimate son of a lord and a lady’s maid. So society had turned their nose up at him, so after seven years travelling Egypt and India, Colin comes back to sell some of his goods.

Lady Claire wants out of England, she’s bored of the society life, she wants adventure, she has a memory that remembers EVERYTHING, and she’s tired of being treated as “different” and after she meets a certain Mr Colin Smith, she’s fallen in love 🙄 she wants to travel the world and thinks he would be a great guide, but propriety dictates that she can’t travel on her own, and certainly not without a travel companion (and not a male) so she proposes a solution to Colin .....

Colin can’t believe his ears !!! A marriage proposal and to daughter to a Marquess no less !!! He thinks it’s all a nasty joke, but after Claire explains it all (she needs a guide and to find a treasure, it will set the pair of them up for life)

And when he is approached by Claire’s father, he wants to take Claire on a fake adventure, and in return he will set Colin up for life in his business venture. Colin has to think logically (but her father says that he is to keep it “business” only)

During the adventure Colin sees Claire as more than just than a soft debutante with a silly notion of adventure. He sees a young woman struggling to find her identity. He sees past her dowdy exterior, and sees instead a passionate and fun loving young woman, slowly Colin warms to her.

Yes it’s the usual bastard meets debutante, she softens him and changes his outlook on life.
But I liked this one, the adventure in Egypt was so a little far fetched, but entertaining non the less, there were a few funny moments, the dance lesson was very funny.

So does Claire get her happy ending ? Does Colin get past his bitterness, with his hate of high society ?
And more importantly, do they find the treasure ? Because if not, the outcome could wreck both they’re lives.

Historical Romance is becoming one of my all-time favourite genres... other than fantasy. This book kept me hooked until the very end.

Wicked with the Scoundrel is the third book in the Wicked Secrets Series. Although I have unfortunately not read the first and second book, the third is a perfect standalone story. I do intend to read the first two which probably will connect a few dots but as mentioned above I had no problem enjoying this story on it’s own. Also I look forward to book four! +1 fan.

Colin Smith reluctantly returns to England 10 years after his travels in Egypt and India. Accompanied by his business partner, Debananda Mukherjee (also known as Deb) and Deb’s sister, they hope to sell their treasures to the ton to finance their next expedition to Egypt. Colin is interested in one particular individual, Marquess of Chatwell, who is an enthusiastic collector.

The Daughter of Marquess of Chatwell, Lady Clair Harrison, attends the treasure showings with her father. She has a wonderful memory and coordinates each detail into lists when describing events in her life. However, she believes her life is quiet and rather dull, until she meets Colin whom she falls “head over ears for” and is the right amount of excitement and adventure she is looking for. Lady Clair is determined to have Colin fall in love with her, marry her and journey together to Egypt. She plots a clever plan to win over this man and improve his financial status.

Initially Colin shows no interested in Lady Clair and is even annoyed by her question about a crocodile. He soon has a change of heart when hired for a treasure hunt expedition in Bath with Lady Clair.

My all-time favourite character was Lady Clair with her matter of fact, analytically personality.

This is a well written, quirky story with very likeable characters.

This charming story is book three in Elizabeth Bright's Wicked Secrets series. I didn't read the first two and wasn't lost at all, so you shouldn't have any problem. Claire is the daughter of a peer and lacked for nothing. She has an amazing memory and could remember every detail. Every. Boring. Detail. Therefore, she wished for excitement and adventure. Colin, too, was the child of a peer, albeit an illegitimate one. He is a treasure hunter who risks life and limb in his quest to make money. Could these two be any different?

Claire immediately fell in love with Colin. He, though, didn't seem very impressed with her. This is a romance novel, however, so you know of course that he falls in love with Claire. Here is the plot point in the story that tempered my enjoyment a bit. Colin seemed to turn into a totally different person when he fell in love. Of course he wanted to protect his beloved, but he turned into an overbearing nanny. Claire, though, wouldn't put up with that, and she ended up being the stronger of the two characters. It was still a fun story and I plan to read more from this author.

Wicked with the Scoundrel is the third instalment in Elizabeth Bright’s wicked secrets series. I have read one other book in the series but each book can be read as a standalone.

Colin Smith is returning to England, much to his disgust after ten years travelling. The bastard son of a viscount and a maid he has no love for society but he is in need of a financial backer to finance his excavation in Egypt. He has set his sights on the Marquess of Chatwell, who is known to have deep pockets and an interest in antiquities.

Lady Claire Harrison, daughter of the Marquess of Chatwell, has accompanied her father to view a selection of antiquities at her friends home. There she finds herself enamoured of the adventurer she meets there.  Claire has an eidetic memory and remembers everything, every boring, mundane moment of her life. She longs for excitement and adventure, Deciding that Colin is the man for her she devises a plan to make him a suitable match, she will help him find the lost treasure of Scipio which will bring him riches and acclaim.

Colin agrees to the scheme when the Marquess agrees to finance his next mission in return for keeping Claire safe. Colin is finding it hard to resist Claire’s unique attractions, and when she unbelievably leads him to the lost treasure they both give in to their feelings. Their new relationship is not without its difficulties as they navigate through some serious obstacles.

I enjoyed this read, I found Claire to be especially endearing and it held my attention. Overall I would recommend this book. I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

***ARC was provided to me for a fair and honest review***

Overall rating: 3/5 The first half with Claire and Colin looking for the treasure was sweet and well paced. Colin becomes overbearing after that.

Heroine (Lady Claire): 4/5 The daughter of a marquess longs for the life of adventure, but only noticed that longing when she met a true adventurer.

Hero (Colin Smith): 3/5 The bastard son of a peer and a chambermaid is an adventurer in seek of his big find that will lead him to fame and fortune.

Plot: 3/5 Claire falls in love with Colin upon seeing him at a afternoon party. But Colin is not of her class and thus they would never be allowed to get married… unless Colin becomes rich enough that titles won’t matter and she sets out to have him find a long lost treasure. When Colin finds out Claire wants to join him on future adventures, can he bear her being at risk?

Personal Review: I loved the first half of the story with Colin and Claire off on a backyard adventure to find hidden treasure. But when Colin falls in love with Claire and becomes overly worried about her safety, the story kind of dies for me. Claire is a bird caged by society’s rules when they meet, Colin lets her fly freely while they search for Cleopatra emerald but is there to catch her if she should need it. But after that Colin takes his little bird and tries so hard for so much of the story to shove her back in her cage. The total one eighty in characterization with Colin was hard to swallow, but I did finish the story and the first half made up for my dislike of the second half.

Colin Smith, the bastard son of a viscount, has returned to England after ten years of treasure hunting Lady Claire, daughter of a marquis, is everything Colin loathes about the ton, but she is determined to win him over. The pair meet in Bath & for Claire it’s love at first sight. Claire persuades Colin to help her search for the Cleopatra Emerald. If she can convince Colin Smith to take her with him as he travels the world, then she’ll have the life she’s always dreamed of.
I enjoyed this third book in the series but not as much as the first two. I always find instant love hard to believe but it was handled well & Claire didn’t deviate from her feelings. I also felt Colin went from being lukewarm to Claire to being desperately in love with her. He needs the money from selling the finds to give his mother & himself some security. I liked both of them & their road to a HEA was very entertaining. The story flowed well & held my interest all the way through. Claire’s total memory recall was a different slant & I felt this could have been given greater scope. Overall an enjoyable read that with a little bit extra could have been so much better
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I loved Colin and Claire's story!!

Colin has come to London to sell some of the relics he has acquired in his travels. He has a distain for the ton as he is the product of a lord taking advantage of a housemaid. When he meets Clair, he thinks she is like all the other woman of the ton and takes an instant dislike of her.

Claire is smitten by Colin upon meeting him and devises a way to spend time with him as well as giving him an income that will make him acceptable to her father. As they spend time together, Colin's feelings for Claire change, but will the stations to which they were born get in the way of their HEA?

I loved watching Colin and Claire come together!! Claire was so quirky (loved all her lists) and the interaction between to two was such a joy to watch!

I'd not read anything by Bright and since this was book 3 of the series, I read the previous 2 before reading this one and I loved them too!! I think that definitely added a lot more to the story as you meet Claire and several other supporting characters to this story that way. I'm so excited for the rest of the series (at least I'm assuming there are more, LOL)!!! Definitely pick up this series!

#WickedWithTheScoundrel - sounds wickedly delightful! Except that Colin wasn’t very much of a scoundrel. He is the bastard son of a viscount and a maid and he did seek his fortune in Egypt. (Again sounds pretty darn good!) He’s only returning to England to sell his finds. So we know he’s of a good character but terrible at making money 🤦‍♀️

Then we meet Lady Claire (what ever she wants she’s given) she’s desperate for more then the season and sees Colin as this romantic character who will show her adventure. To be honest she’s a little annoying! She’s never had to earn anything.

It felt a little flat. There was a number of directions the other could have gone in. A number of twist and turned to tempt you to turn the page quick. To have the reader hold her breathe desperate to see how the story would unfold.

DNF slightly after midway on this Regency. I thought
book #4 of the series the superior book.

Lady Claire, dtr. of a marquess, had perfect memory.
She spontaneously made lists out-loud of places she'd
visited or frequency of events. (Too much repetition).
Her lady's maid Meg elbowed her when she made lists
(signaling her to stop) or lectured her on propriety.
Meg would've been terminated w/o a reference in the
real world.

Colin was a by-blow of a viscount who yrs. ago cornered
a lady's maid/ Colin's future mother. Colin despised ton
rules & hypocrisy (repetition). I didn't 'buy' his transition
from lusting after Claire to loving her. The leads went on
a private treasure hunt, resulting in too many coincidences.
Claire's father let her choose her marriage partner (huh?)
and his wife most likely would have heeded him on this.
But wife lambasted dtr instead.

Colin's mom was my fav. character. This story required too
much suspension of belief and logic. But nice try.

The stories of those who went to Egypt to hunt for treasure before it was restricted are fascinating. Colin Smith is just that adventurer! After being gone for ten years he returns to London to sell some treasures he has found and is looking for a patron to back his further expeditions. Despising the people and rules of the ton, he is eager to obtain what he needs and return.
When he finds a Marquess who is willing to fund him, he also finds his daughter Clair who is determined to go on a treasure hunt with him to find a priceless jewel. Of course she is totally smitten with him upon first glance but she is everything that Colin has stayed away from. Will he take her and what will they find? Will he change his mind and find love with Clair?
Elizabeth Bright has written an enjoyable tale with captivating characters that will keep you entertained until the end! I am anxious to go back and read the first two books in this series, but his can be read as a standalone.

I love Ms. Bright’s writing, everything is amazing. Adventures, Egyptian treasures, more Wessex (if only just a little) and a strong woman. I am so there. Colin, a scoundrel? Not really but he is terribly wicked which makes me love him (oh and he loves his mother, swoon). We all love a strong woman and Claire is so strong and know what she wants and goes after what she wants. No demure woman and I love it! These stories are so interesting and different and fresh. If you have not read Ms. Bright, she is fairly new (only three books), run out and get these books and have a grand time reading and getting lost in another time.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

Here we have a quirky heroine who remembers everything and feels free to recite all details whenever someone inquires. Our hero is an adventurer who is only moderately interesting. They go on a quest; she for adventure and he for a treasure. Actually they both would like the treasure but only Claire is determined that it is to be found. Colin believes it to be a wild goose chase. He goes along with the adventure at the bidding of Claire's father who has promised funding for Colin's next Egyptian quest.

I enjoyed this book for the unique characters. It was well written with interesting side characters.

I received this book free for review from the publisher.
