A missing royal. A love triangle. Can Maxine crack the case before her heart is ripped in two?
Maxine Brodeur has spent the past year recovering from a devastating breakup with Prince Arthur -- the realm’s future king. She’s kept a low profile as a half-human/half-demon, spending her days running “Doomed Cases,” a private supernatural agency. After illegally revealing her powers to save a human girl from attack, she gets an ominous letter bearing the royal seal.
Rather than being punished, Maxine is hired to find the young, kidnapped Prince George. Back in the secretive life of the royals, she must learn to work alongside sexy detective Zachary Quinton. Her new partner has no respect for the rules, and her ex-lover Arthur is doing everything he can to win her back.
Will Maxine find the missing prince quickly or will she cause another royal scandal in the process?

Joanna Mazurkiewicz was born in Poland. She moved to United Kingdom when she was only nineteen and just finished high school. She had aspired to be a writer upon completion of the Harry Potter series but also enjoyed reading books like ‘Gone with the Wind’, ’Animal Farm’ and ‘The doll’. She graduated from Swansea University with a bachelor degree in American Studies. While studying in the UK she made a decision to start writing fiction in English. The “Whispers of the Sprite” is her first debut novel and she is currently working on other projects. Joanna lives in Cowbridge, a small town in South Wales near Cardiff with her boyfriend Bruce. She enjoys cycling around Welsh countryside some of which has become the settings in her first series.
Drama, drama and more drama as well as lots of action
Oh my goodness, so many times I really wanted to slap Maxine and tell her to get over her shit and get her life together! However, it was easy to see her growth to become the person she needed to be, otherwise, hell was doomed. A very entertaining series that kept me reading into the early hours of morning.
You don’t have to rely on yourself, even if you think others may be hurt if they help you…even if you’re 1/2 demon-1/2 human; a mongrel.” Maxine Brodeur is pregnant and doesn’t know who the father is. All demons look down on mongrels, Maxine doesn’t have many human friends, and it’s illegal to tell humans about the demonic world, and that demons live among them. So what is she going to do? This is a tasteful book with adult themes, but not because it’s entirely about sex (although there’s a fair share of that too.) It’s very well written, with lots of action, friendship and love. I highly recommend this series.
I just couldn't finish it. I found the main character whiney and wasn't able to relate to her in any way. I found the ancillary characters bland and unforgettable and couldn't seem to care about any of them.
All in all 'meh!' just about sums it up ... Oh, and a personal pet peeve; the constant use of the term 'darling' drove me nuts. I found it pretentious and fake.
Amazing story of Maxine that kept my imagination flowing.
I chose this rating because I was constantly thinking what was going to happen next. And I felt frustration for Max because she tried to do the right thing yet bad things happened at every corner. I would recommend this to my friends
I couldn’t get through book one. The main character was insufferable with her constant whining and self destructive behaviour. I have zero tolerance for substance abusers with a ‘poor me why is this happening’ attitude. I tried to hang in there and finish but when I checked the synopsis of future books not much seems to change so I’ve given up.
In fact there's no way I'm going to finish it . too much angst in a character that's old enough it's pull up her big girl panties and get with the program. It was well edited though that is the only saving grace that it has.
First I was frustrated with main character Max and about hers addiction, but ... when I kept passing over the "winey parts"( poor me, bla, bla...) it became interesting and captivating! And kept me thinking about what could happen next!
