Two of the stories in this book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat - original, unexpected and really gripping! - To the degree that I was compelled to buy and read the other books in the series, before continuing with the other novels in this book.
The other 2 stories were of varying degrees of interest but did not inspire me to read further.

I'm not big on the supernatural or wherewolves. This is the main reason for 3 stars. But, once I got into each novel, I had to find out what happened.

Loved the first book, thought the second was ok, and the third just isn't my cup of tea. I will definitely read more A. J. Scudier. May read more Steve Bradshaw.

A collection of 4 books and a bonus excerpt from A.J. Scudiere's "Vendetta".
I've read Under Dark Skies before (a couple of times) and it never disappoints. I have a seperate review for this one in my profile. Love the series! If you haven't read it, I highly recommend you do.

The Bluff City Butcher was excellent. I started it and almost didn't keep reading after the first couple of chapters. The story is very good, but the author has an annoying habit of changing thoughts, and characters in the middle of a chapter without a lot of helpful transition. I had to keep going back and re-reading paragraphs to figure out who was speaking at the moment. All in all, though, it was a good mystery and I couldn't figure it out until the very end. It's also the beginning of a series, but I think it would do well as a standalone minus the last chapter or so. It's set up to continue the story, but it seems like it may get a bit on the unbelievable side once you get past the first book. I don't want to give spoilers so I'll leave it at that.

Protective was NOT my normal type of book. I guess you could say it's paranormal because of the werewolf factor. But, it's really a romance novel complete with graphic sex scenes that go on for pages at a time and a kind of predictable outcome. I was expecting more of an action angle since there was secret meetings between the families and alliances with other supernatural families. But, a lot of that got shoved aside for the romance. This may be a first in a series but I'm not really sure. Even so, I'll pass on the rest. I would have given the set 5 stars if this book wasn't included.

The last book, Who by Water was very good. Excellent writing style. The story was very engaging and I loved the characters. The main character, Jo, is likeable despite her many flaws. She has some very unhealthy ways of dealing with stressful and upsetting situations. And those situations are many in the series. Jo is an expat living in Slovenia. She and her friends run a punk themed tea shop. After one of Jo's lovers dies under mysterious circumstances, her latent ability surfaces and causes chaos for Jo and everyone around her. She now sees the dead and is a "Speaker" for them. Unfortunately her newfound ability attracts other forces that threatens all she holds dear. Yes, I ended up buying the rest of the series and read all 4 in just a few days. Highly recommend.

Almost Halloween werewolf stories

Each book would stand on its own merit in captivating the reader's imagination.

The first book
missed out on developing some romance between Donovan and Hilary. Instead the book was lost in details about the investigation.
At good thing was the character behind Hilary and donovan, really interesting and catchy.
Standing alone, the book is good and does not need to get lost among a bundle of other books that may not have the same merit!

The second book
A good book, scary at time, technical otherwise, with this ghost killer with no apparent motif. So many characters at time...
Suddenly it is the end after so many dead people for no reason as the ghost killer just disappear in darkness... Happy ending for the werewolf family?

Third book
A love story? Some good stuff about "painting" and about the connection between the characters and the "Roma" myth...

The last book
Would interest a reader keen to hear about dead people communicating with living people and the shift of power around the who is host world😈 scar!i

Mega Read

This was a mammoth read. Each book could have easily stood on its own, although I thought there may have been a common theme but there wasn't, which was a bit disappointing. Only real downside was they all seemed to wrap up the endings really quickly and spend a lot of build up getting to that point but they all kind of left you feeling, what happened after it was all over.

Interesting novels with a different spin as thrillers

I enjoyed these, particularly the first one, as it gave a different perspective on who could be walking amongst us. Worth a read.

OK reading

Due to eye issues Alexa reads to me, I read Under Dark Skies which was very good 👍. The other three novels were of no 👎interest. Give this box 📦set a try. Enjoy reading 🔰20021 😐

Not my usual genre, but really enjoyed these. They weren't so fantastical such that you couldn't enjoy the crime side of things, which is my usual go to choice.

Three stories, I really did try to get through this whole book, but by the last story I was over it. Just not my preference.

Ek is 'n Christen en die vrye rondgooi van die Here se naam, is vir my onaanvaarbaar. I am a Christian and the way in which the Lord's name is thrown around in this book, for me, is unacceptable.

Really enjoying reading these four books. Great characters and storylines.
But I do wish that when talking about paper etc the author would correctly spell stationery, not stationary - it would be more surprising if the envelope was moving!

Really not for me, it was hard to read, disjointed at times although the stories were different I didn’t enjoy them all. I will avoid this type orphan read in the future despite aiming to broaden my reading horizons.

On the Knife's Edge is a compilation of three novels, all of which are paranormal mysteries, involving various aspects of investigation and things that go bump in the night. The stories are all just OK tales that want to be better, but the stories all individually and collectively, fail. In a paranormal mystery, one of the most important things the writer must overcome is disbelief, and having three successive are a bridge too far.

Under Dark Skies has two unique FBI agents team up to investigate a cult leader, his flock, and the farm that they call home. Although the story is strong, and the characters are interesting, their similarity to Scully and Mulder are too on the nose. It kept interfering with the joy.

By the same token, the second book called Bluff City Butcher, is not just a hunt for a serial killer. The story is so complex that the writer must split the novel into four parts. It involves a "fountain of youth" type of medical situation bordering on super soldier chemistry.

Who By Water involves a regular person (Jo) that can communicate with the dead. Because the recently deceased are familial contacts, Jo feels impelled to investigate the murders. As you may see, these novels are really more derivative. It is really Bluff City Butcher that stands alone as more of an original story. I wish the author would have figured out a less complex way to tell that story.

Therefore, I can only give a rating of good for this compilation.
