This book was provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

There were parts of this fantasy story that I absolutely loved. There were also some aspects that dropped it to a three star book for me.

Let's start with what I loved. Violca is the oldest of five sisters, raising them on her own, after a terrible tragedy that took both her parent's lives. The relationship between the sisters was so lovely. The sisters, Violca, Eva, Angyalka, Sari, and Kati, live in their family home together, with Violca as their guardian. Their home is one full of love and comfort, with all five girls contributing to stay together. I loved how they looked out for each other, genuinely comforted each other in the midst of teenage struggles, and made sacrifices so that they could all stay together. I also loved the relationship between the men in the story. Two brothers and close friend, Chase, Scott, and Eryk, worked well together to do their job of secretly looking into the sisters and the possibility that they may be more than meets the eye.

The first third of the book, was sweet, with Chase intentionally running into Violca to get to know her better. His attentions to her and her sisters' invitation for him to spend more time with them was charming. The supernatural component was intriguing, as well. Dragons, Amulets, Earth Witches, Shape Shifters. It is all set up for a great story.

However, after the introduction to all of the characters, and the building of a plot, the story sort of lost it's momentum. I would love to have heard more about their world and different species of supernatural characters. It wasn't clear what exactly everyone was until they were changing into their forms, part way through the book during a battle scene. There was hinting towards it but not a lot of explanation about what their strengths were, where they came from, how their worlds interacted with the human world. There was a little more of a description as to who the Earth Witches were, but I was still left hungry for more. I would have been happier leaving out the very in depth description of two character's physical relationship to have gotten more detail on this fascinating world of supernatural creatures.

It reminded me a little of the movie adaptation of a great book, where the movie producers just weren't able to pull off the story the book told. It was good and you were entertained, but you knew that if you had read the book, all those little gaps would come together to complete the tale. But if you were one of the few who hadn't read the book yet, you were a little lost and knew that now you needed to read the book so you could understand all those little pieces that were missing in the movie.

Leilani Love has a great idea for a story, charming characters, and the possibility for major world building. I just wish she had taken her time in building those relationships and the setting a little more. Overall, the book was entertaining, left me curious for more, and is a quick light read if you are in the mood for low angst and sweet relationships. I will be curious to see if Book 2 of the series digs into the world of dragons and Earth Witches, filling in the little gaps I kept tripping over.

I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock

Violca is a strong, young woman who is raising 4 younger sisters, when her parents passed away in an accident, she dropped out of school and started working a job so she and her sisters could stay together. What Violca does not know is that she and her sisters are the last of a very special line. Because of this there are so many people looking to find them and use them as they see fit. Even though Violca and her sisters have no idea who they are and that they are being hunted by the bad guys. Luckily for them Violca and her family have a protector who will stop at nothing to make sure she stays safe!

Chase has been sent out along with two shifter panthers, who happen to be brothers to make sure that Violca and her sisters are indeed the last of their kind, and to protect them from any dangers that might come up. Chase felt the pull the moment he saw her picture come a crossed his desk, the urge to protect was strong and he could only hope that means that after so many long years he might have his mate close by, but his first priority is to keep this family safe.

Holy cow that was a killer book! There was Action, suspense, mystery, Love and man did it have some amazing hot, steamy love scenes, but most of all it has my favorite kind of shifter, Dragons! This book takes you on a journey like I've never been on before. It was thrilling to watch each scene play out and not know how it was going to end. It was so well written and the characters were so well developed I could feel the love and support of each member of this book.

Has potential but ... amateurish

The author tells and does not show, changes verb tenses within the same sentence, and uses passive voice far too much when active voice would greatly improve the flow and keep interest alive. I didn't get much past the second chapter before deciding not to waste my time. My advice to the author: get an editor and have him help you rewrite the story. Your book has potential, but right now it reads like a mediocre high school writing assignment.

~ 2.5 Violca's Dragon ~

Violca's Dragon is book one in The Dragon Ruby series by Leilani Love.

LLove is a new author to me. I am torn over this book. It has potential, but the writing was choppy and other things just didn’t work for me.

The transitioning between the scenes and the characters POVs where not smooth. The story was mediocre and none of the characters stood out. They where all just their. Also I whole book felt slow with the plot and romance. It made it hard for me to read and get into the story.

The romance between Violca and Chase was a very slow burn and never really picked up. The three sex scence we got where, blah. I felt like the first two where the same wording just different locations, no originality or variation in the sex scene. We also have a possible secondary romance with secondary characters, but I just felt bad for Scott (secondary character) since his mate is currently underage. That made me feel bad for the guy and also a little weirded out with this set up.

As for the plot we are given a lot of information about the five sisters who know nothing about their heritage. I enjoyed the history/heritage on the witches. I like that we have a verity of supernaturals working together to stop a war and find the diamonds in the ruff, who can change the course of the world. I did get frustrated that once they where found that they got to go home even with the hutners still hunting them. That just did not work for me. Also when Violca encounters the Demon sent after her and destroys it. It felt too easy. Last we have the ending or lack of one. It just ends. Didn’t really feel like an ending.

Violca's Dragon was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

Violca Grey knows that life can change instantly but what she doesn’t realize is that her and her sisters are in danger from something that may not be human in this thrilling paranormal romance.

Chase Reed knows that the Grey sisters possibly hold the key to his fate and he is determined to get close, protect them and bring them to his Dragon King and the reader can’t help but get caught up in the story as Violca and Chase not only fight to protect their families, they fight against their rising feelings for each other. The chemistry between Chase and Violca is sweet and spicy but the relationship has a few obstacles against them one of which is Violca’s vastly changing world which has emotional turbulence flowing through out the story while these strong, captivating characters grab the reader’s attention in this fast paced and smooth flowing plot full of suspense, excitement and romance.

Anticipation builds during the story due to secrets and revelations that keeps everyone on their toes and the enemies that have a very nefarious plan in mind for Violca and her sisters cause lot of spine tingling tension and excitement to build throughout the story with some exhilarating battle scenes really getting the adrenaline pumping. The scenes are well written with vivid details that capture the imagination and bring the story to life making it easy for the readers to become engrossed in the story while the intriguing events keep them glued to the pages.

The author has created a fascinating world full of intriguing elements and some great world building that captured my interest almost immediately and as the overall plot of the series promises some very juicy stories with all these wonderful traits and characters, I can’t wait to read the next book.

Kindly provided with an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.......

What a fabulous start to a series !!!

This is Viloca and Chase's story. Viloca has been caring for her sister's (Kati, Angel and Eva) following the death of their parents. Viloca starts to have dreams of the future and then she meets Chase Reed, who is a dragon shifter. My inner delighted squealed at the premise of a shifter brother for each sister......I had them all mentally married off.....yes, I am that organised. It was like watching the old movie seven brides for seven brothers......fantastic !!

Anyway Chase does have brothers Scott, Barndon and Eryk and they are all searching for and trying to keep something called the Dragon Ruby from their brother Dimitri who wants to use it for nasty things.

The sisters have no idea that in fact they are all witches and can help with this quest to find the Dragon Ruby. It sound cliche but its full of twist and turns and building passion. It was a gripping read from the beginning to the end. It ends in its own right, but it obviously has scope for the next book and part of this story.

This is a MUST read for lovers of paranormal romance ! Well done Leilani and many thanks for this opportunity xx

Later peeps and here's looking for the next book in this series ;0)

Wonderful Witch and Shifter Paranormal Romance

I very much enjoyed this book. The story line was intriguing and lends itself to what could be a good series. I hope their will be more books as I want to see what powers the other 4 sisters have, who they will mate, and I want to know more about the Dragon king. I loved Chase and Violca's story. The pace of the book was good, the romance developed in a realistic manner. And I just loved Violca's sisters. They were all precious and supportive. They only reason I rated the book 4 stars instead of 5 was the writing style was a little awkward. As this was the author's first book, I am hoping the writing will smooth as the author gains experience. I know I will read the next book.

Bad writing is bad, people. This is written in third person present tense. NOTHING SHOULD EVER BE WRITTEN IN THIRD PERSON PRESENT TENSE; or very very few things and certainly not this thing. What's worse, it can't even keep it's ridiculous third person present tense straight, with sentences like this: "As soon as she was able to drive, she took their dad’s Corolla and helps with transporting the kids, mainly taking them to school or running errands while Violca is still at work."

Nope. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.

Nobody in this book acts according to their age. The adults act like teenagers, the teenagers act like adults, and the preteens act like toddlers. We get to know the sisters pretty well (though Kati and Angel's powers seem to be seeing the future but in a different way, the others didn't show any), but a lot of what happens in the first half feels unnecessary and the guys were very similar to each other, except their coloring. Personality-wise they were the same dude.
Nobody seemed to have much common sense, either. One second Violca would be very untrusting of Chase and the next she was boinking him. Violca and Brandon asked questions, Chase didn’t answer, and they didn’t press again. They seemed to forget someone had tried to kidnap Violca, they left her alone in an isolated cabin for the best part of a day! The enemy wasn’t particularly competent, in spite of what the author said, or they would have come back to an empty house and would have no idea Violca had been kidnapped, maybe even killed. But that doesn’t happen, because the villains are not even half as dangerous as the author wants you to believe.
Transitions were weird, because sometimes there was absolutely no transition; in one paragraph they would be walking to their car, and the next they would be placing their orders at a restaurant. In other sections there was a separation and a little doodle to signpost. Chapters end in the middle of the action, and the next chapter picks up exactly where the other ended. Why, I have no idea. There are a bunch of typos and missing words, and some scenes were a mix of telling and showing. Sadly, we’re shown the boring bits and told anything interesting that happened. A good copy editor was sorely needed here. And maybe also a developmental editor.
Violca seemed to have as much chemistry with Chase than with any of the other guys (which was more of a friend's chemistry), so it made little sense that Chase was the love interest and not, say, Scott. His “imprinting” (that is obviously from Twilight, and, like there, feels more like grooming) to a teenager was creepy and completely unnecessary. The villain, of course, was also a sexual predator because he was. And why exactly am I supposed to side with Viktor and not Dimitri? Because their goals seemed exactly the same, the only difference being Dimitri worked with demons; however, I got the impression that if demons would work with Viktor, he wouldn’t turn them away. So not much of a difference, really.
The sex scenes were Okay, but they felt completely unnecessary, and after the first one, I just skimmed them. They were pretty much the same, it seemed, just minor differences, but the same beats and even the same positions in the same order.
It was somewhat entertaining, though, and easy to read for the most part.

Violca raised her four younger siblings after her parents’ death. It wasn’t an accident like the cops told them and something is after them. Chase knows there is something special about Violca but doesn’t know what. Can he keep her safe? Fast-paced paranormal read with plenty of fun, drama and suspense. I really liked it.

Shifters and Witches

Violca is a young woman raising her four younger sisters when she begins having vivid dreams about her late mother. So starts a tale of witchcraft, dragons and demons which has a sexy romance running through it. The first of a series, this also works as a complete story in itself.

I was given a copy of this book from NetGalley in an exchange for an honest review. My honest review is this: I opened this book last night at midnight to see what the flow of the writing was like so that I would know where to put it on my TBR (To Be Read) list. A quick five minutes and then I could go to sleep. At three-thirty I finally turned off my iPad after checking out book two The King's Fire. This book is absolute perfection and I could not put it down when reading it had me hooked from the start. I loved the storyline and the mystery that came with it.
It was just amazing and I loved ALL the characters. Chase is so sweet and nervous when with Violca which is odd considering he gives out major vibes of confidence but when with her he's clueless which is kind of funny and then I love Violca because she's just such a kind and considerate person I mean when her parents died she raised all four of her sisters with no hesitation or regret which is admirable and I just love how she's so strong and protective over them. Then there are the other characters in this book which I also loved. There was Scott who imprinted on Kati which to begin with I wasn't too sure of because of the age difference but once we got to know them more I was beginning to love the idea of them and then there's the fact that he said he would stand down and wait for her letting her live a normal, or normal as can be, life until she chose him and considering she's his mate I know it'll hurt him to see her date others but I think it's honourable that he's willing to do so because he wants Violca's approval. Then there's also Angyalka or Angel which I adored because she's just so damn sweet and loving but also there' something about her gift that draws you in and makes you wonder about her so I'm desperately hoping she'll have her own story because because I think it would be incredible. And Eva I loved how she was so outgoing not even attempting to hide her thoughts no matter how awkward or inappropriate they'd be. Well that's just a few of the characters but they really stood out to me more than the others.
Then there was the way it was written and I have to say I usually wouldn't go for one like this as I prefer books to be written in first person but I think the way this was done was really clever as we were able to see more than the two main characters POV which I really enjoyed.
Overall I thought EVERYTHING about this book was incredible and I cannot wait for more.

It's always fun to find a new author, a new series and Lelani Love has rewarded me for my search. Her Dragon Ruby Series starts off wonderfully with Violca's Dragon.

In a world where the supernatural must stay hidden, life has always been interesting but a split in the Dragon First Family has caused a war and the Supernatural world is choosing sides. It's an all out search for a family of Earth Witches, from the original line. Always before, it's been one female per family but this generation is one of prophecy, all five sisters born into one family and all of them have hidden powers. Five sisters that are to create balance only as in all prophecy, the true meaning is lost between those who read it. Some think it will allow Dragons to once again rule while others think it means something else entirely.

Violca Grey had a pretty decent life, four great sisters and parents who adored them all.. then it all changed in an instant. Her parents died and Violca stepped up to raise her younger sisters. It's been hard but life goes on. Now life is about to change again and Violca will never be the same. Her mother is coming to her in dreams, a new man has entered her life and she feels like she's being followed.

Chase Reed has been given an assignment by his king, find out if the Five Sisters where the sisters of prophecy. NOT fall in love with them.. After meeting Violca, Chase can't help falling for the smart, funny, sexy woman. Once he meets her family, he's a man on a mission. Protect what's his. Fortunately for the family AND his king, protecting them means fulfilling his promise to his king.

If only it were that simple. LOL. Chase has his hands full, trying to discover if Violca is the one, and keeping it from her is kind of a buzz kill. Working a relationship? Yeah that's tough. Add that to the fact that the enemies are circling and the girls powers are emerging?

Just a fantastic book.. I enjoyed it immensely!

Violca is raising her four younger sisters. None of them knows anything about magic or dragons or shifters. But their late mother is showing up in dreams with messages. And strange people are following them. And before it's over they'll all be more familiar with the idea of magic, dragons, werepanthers, witches, and demons. And they'll have a whole new set of problems facing them, and new friends to help them face them. Recommended

After reading a string of mediocre books I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciated stumbling upon "Violca's Dragon." At first I was concerned that this was going to be another cookie cutter paranormal romance; but, what truly sealed the deal for me was the strong family connection between the characters.

Violca Grey is the oldest sibling of five girls. When her parents perished in a car accident, she leaves college, is dumped by her boyfriend because she chooses to take care of her sisters. Her parents have left the girls provided for and Violca takes a job as a receptionist at an attorney's office. She and her sisters also have the friendship and support of their longtime friend and cop, Brandon.

Meanwhile, Dragon shifter Chase has been working with his team, Scott and Eryk two cat shifter brothers to locate the earth witches who have been foretold to save the dwindling shapeshifting world. They suspect that it is Violca and her sisters yet she is extremely difficult to get next to. Also, things are becoming more tense since demons have been sighted tracking her. So. Chase arranges an impromptu meeting.

There is no doubt there is some romantic tension between the two; but, as they get to know one another Violca begins having dreams where her dead mother keeps trying to tell her something and warn her if danger. As the demons close in Chase has no choice but to reveal who and what he is leaving Violca devastated at the betrayal.

I really enjoyed this little gem and was surprised by how often the author had me fooled by the twists and turns of the plot. I enjoyed the chemistry between all of the characters and the familial bonds. The youngest sisters really sold the book for me. I can't wait to read where this series is headed. One thing for sure is that it promises to be a wild ride.

My Rating: 3 Stars

My Review:

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

I am delightedly torn over this book. I found myself fascinated with the characters and the plot through the entire book as well as wishing the author had left out the more 'erotic' scenes.

I personally thought that the romance, while not bad, definitely didn't need to be steered int he direction of erotic. In my opinion, it was almost an afterthought to add it in, in hopes of catching more attention from readers of the erotic variety. I would just as soon have the author leave that behind and focus more on the diamond in the rough story she has going.

The story... oh the story! Its not often I find myself completely fascinated and thoroughly immersed in a book in this genre anymore, but Ms. Love, certainly caught my attention. I loved the fact that I constantly wanted to know more. I felt like I needed to know more! It will be a lot of fun to see where this series goes and how the point of views will change throughout.

My honest to goodness favorite part of this book was the whole Kati and Scott imprint thing. I am just dying to know what will happen between them and see how this turns out! I foresee some seriously awesome installments in this series.

"3 out of 5 stars! Five sisters find out there is more to this world then what they knew when others come into their lives to try to protect them from those who would like to use them for evil gain, in the process they learn more about their parents and their pasts then they originally knew.

This unique novel takes the typical paranormal romance situations and throws them into a contemporary setting. Typically, I would like the idea if the romance works out but in this case, it just made me feel bad for Scott (one of the secondary characters who is a panther shifter). One of the things that made it difficult to flow along with the novel was its transitioning between its scenes and between its characters POVs throughout the novel as it wasn't as smooth as I'm used too in other novels. Otherwise, I thought that it has great potential since the plot is engaging and entertaining while making sure the novel never dragged."

This is book one in the "The Dragon Ruby" series. Violca Grey has been left to raise four sisters by herself. Everything was going okay until recently when she finds that people have been watching her and her family. Also another set have been coming into contact with them in their everyday life. When she goes on a family trip with her sisters and friend she finds they are starting to be attacked. Chase Reed who has been sent with his friends to watch her as they are trying to assets if Violca and her sister are the Earth witches they have been looking for and protect. They find that to be the case but Violca is hurt thinking that their budding relationship was just him using her to get close to find out. After the other evil group go into attacking them and Chase and his friends try to protect them, Violca starts to let the upset go. This was a really good series to start and I have enjoyed the secondary characters and their budding relationships too!

I love dragons and getting to know someone's dragon was too good to pass up. I am glad I didn't. Violca and her four sisters are all great characters. Chase, Scott, Brandon and Eryk have the job of keeping them safe. Violca's Dragon has great world building and character development to go with an interesting story. The twists and turns in the story line kept me reading and kept the story fresh. While there is a solution to part of the problem not everything is solved. It does not end with a cliff hanger but there is room from future stories in this interesting world.

The tense the book is written in really threw me off at first. If it does the same to you keep reaidng and the story will suck you in.

A terrific tale of dragons, shifters, witches and magic.

We have a family of witches who don't know their abilities or the danger they are in. The girls are living a normal life after their parents are killed. There are evil forces out to get the sisters and try to use their powers to dominate. Violca, the oldest sister, is drawn to the shifter sent to protect them. It's great how Violca deals with learning of their abilities while protecting her sisters and dealing with her feelings for her dragon shifter, Chase. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.

The tenses are a bit weird. I mean, sometimes the past tense is used for the narrative but then she switches to present tense. And there are some problems, also, with punctuation.
I found lovely the way Chase had to "chase" Violca at the beginning to win her trust.
The story is full of action, love, adventure and mystery. It's fast- paced and since the chapters are short it makes it really easy to read.
The sisters are a delight. So fun and entertaining, and the boys are, as expected, heroic and sexy as hell.

4 Stars Violca’s Dragon by Leilani Love is a humorous shifter novel!
This was a delightful read with shifters, witches, and demons. Good world building and relatable characters with a great balance of humor, adventure, danger, and mystery. There are some steamy 4 flame love scenes and some random language. There was only one thing I would have changed which was the first two love scenes seemed like the same exact scene as the first. Same movements in order. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to all fans who love PRN.

After reading this book I had to take a little time to compose myself and get my thoughts clear in my head before I put them in a review.
Wow this book was amazingly written. Once I started I couldn’t put it down till I was finished. This book has twists and turns you don’t know what’s happening. will they all get there happily ever after or will it all go wrong. To find out what happens go buy the book. You won’t be disappointed I wasn’t.

This is the story of Violca and Chase. After her parent’s death she’s been raising her four sisters. She busy with working to keep her family together and has no idea about her special gifts. Chase and brothers Eryk and Scott have been sent by King Viktor to protect the girls as they are the key to unlocking the prophecy and finding the Dragon’s Ruby. Can they keep these sisters safe from the demons that are chasing them? I enjoyed the action, magic, danger, and romance in this story. Copy received from NetGalley in exchange for honest review
It took me a couple of tries to finish this book, but in the end I enjoyed it.
I think my biggest problem with it was simply due to a pet peeve, I don't like it when one of the main characters is kept in the dark about something, especially something important or crucial to the plot.
Will definitely keep an eye out for future books in this series....

Loved it.

Dragons are real! That is what you want to shout about when you read this book. Chase is a black dragon that is hot.

You will get to know the Grey sister and you will either love them or hate them. Truthfully, I know you will love them, especially Sari and Angel.

Looking forward to reading the other sisters stories too.
