Since I was eighteen, I have used my powers to deliver karma to those in need like all of my other family do. Only they are much better at it. I deliver much needed karma to both good and bad humans, but mainly the bad as it’s more fun.
The only rule of the job? Don’t talk to the other gods, especially not the powerful ones, and definitely don’t accidentally kill one of them... whoops.
Now the twin gods of justice are after me, and not even my family can save me now. If I’m caught, it will be a one ticket pass to the gods re-correction prison. It’s a place where more than mere gods are locked up and no one ever escapes.
Even gods can’t escape their fate...but they sure can try to run.
G. Bailey is a USA Today bestselling author of books that are filled with everything from dragons to pirates. Plus, fantasy worlds and breath-taking adventures. Oh, and some swoon-worthy men that no girl could forget. G. Bailey is from the very rainy U.K. where she lives with her husband, two children and three cheeky dogs.
A Name Like Karma intrigued me. Mostly because it was a reverse harem and I do tend to love those. Add gods into the mix, and I'm sold. However, Karma was just eh. Her job was to deal out karma, sounds fun right? She loves to do bad karma over good karma just because. I mean, who wouldn't?
Karma, however, isn't good at her job. Like most people, she is below average. Well, until one day when she sort of, accidentally, killed a god. No one knew that it was an actual thing or not that could happen - but in the end, it did. So now she is on the run.
Throughout the book, I just kept hoping and praying that I would like here so much more than I did. It never happened.. but it was worth the try. I think out of everything, Michael - the goat, was my favorite character. It wasn't just because he talked (which was pretty awesome in my eyes) but just that he was a goat that could dish some sarcasm. Oh, and his love for food.
Other than all of that, I did see that there was another book out on KU and if I can somehow convince myself (maybe with some glasses of wine?) I could see myself diving into it.
Rating: 4.5/5 stars I love books on gods and I'm a firm believer in karma so this book had an interesting and refreshing concept on those two. Karma was hilarious and her family was a hoot! I liked how strong she was and although she has the worst luck ever (there's a reason why but she doesn't care and still takes care of the "reason"), Karma doesn't let it affect her. She was no pushover too and put up a good fight against the twin gods of justice, the way I love my heroines!
Now, I liked all three of the guys but I gotta say, Seth is my favorite! I'm a sucker for the broody and silent types. Storm and Killian were great too of course. We did have more of a romantic relationship build between Storm and Karma more than the other two in this book so I'm hoping we see more with the other two guys. I need more Seth in the next book! Also, that cliffhanger at the end, shit hit the fan!
Once again Gem has delivered a gripping tale! I love the world's she creates and this world has it all. Karma and her guys.. I just love them already. I need to know more about them all. I can't wait for book two! Gah! Just... read this book, for real!
Sometimes reading G. Bailey is like getting caught in a whirlwind. You have to hold on for dear life or you are going to get tossed our on your behind. I feel like she might be the queen of super fast paced RHNs. Slow burn here at the start. I of course love how authors are leaving behind the perfect FMC and instead leaning toward awkward, disaster, word vomit heroines. Not only are they entertaining to read about they almost make me feel better about myself...
Karma our FMC, is exactly what her name implies. She doles out good and bad Karma according to her assignments.. though she isn't quite that good at it and more often than not must be rescued from her own attempts. She receives a mission to dole out some bad Karma on her birthday but to her surprise she is expected and in yet another disastrous attempt she ends up killing the guy. To her astonishment the guy ends up being a high god.. and now she is in a world of trouble as the twins of Justice hunt her down to throw her in the supernatural prison for an accident. All is not what it seems however, it seems there are some foul plans afoot. Trapped with the handsome Justice twins, they begin getting to know their prisoners and finding out there are less evil people trapped here than expected. Karma discovers she is in fact maybe a little more than just karma pronounced eff you...
If there was ever an ending that made me want to dive straight into the next book it was this one. We literally get left off right when the book is starting to get good. SMH, you authors are killing me!
Loved this! This embodies everything that readers have come to love about G. Bailey's writing!! The drama, intrigue, slow building romance, fascinating world building and exceptional best friends is all so brilliantly included! From the first word to the last, it's captivating! This is filled with unique ideas and the plot unfolds so very perfectly. I really liked Karma. She wasn't too fierce nor too independent. She is strong but she also has such a tender heart. The guys are interesting and oh so very intense... the best kind there are in RH! I loved the language used, so authentic! There really is something just so entertaining about a series that centers around the gods. I cannot wait to jump into the next book! I think that this just may prove to be my new favorite series by Ms. Bailey 💗
G. Bailey did it again! I literally read this in a couple of hours-I could not stop! I love Karma and the MC lol Karma and the guys and of course Kit! Michael the goat! Haha. The ending though..whoa! I'm excited to read book 2!
Karma. Love it. Believe in it. I’m glad this story is written. It grips you from the very first page. I love the goat and the goblin. I was shocked to look down and see only a few pages left. So very well written and look forward to reading more of Karma and her guys!
While love triangles are what I truly hates, I'm must say that harem and reverse harem stories are very low on the list over what I enjoy. I should have researched this story better before reading it. It looks like every story G. Bailey writes are about reverse harems. So not my thing.
Oooooh, A Name Like Karma is my favorite book of G Bailey's by far! I think this book hit all my wants in a book and flowed really well. I started it on my flight home from a work conference and for once was sad that I was home because I had to put it down haha. I loved everything about it and cannot wait for Book 2, June is so freakin far away!!
I have been following G Bailey for awhile now and I think this book shows her growth as an author while still keeping true to herself. I felt like she gave us more details and expanded on feelings that some of her other books sorta skip over sometimes. This one made me fall for all the characters, even Kit haha. I liked how the relationships developed and need more...like RIGHT NOW! I especially loved Karma, I would totally want to be her friend if she was real haha. I loved the guys and yeah, they each fall into normal RH tropes but I loved how G Bailey started off this series with them and how they weren't all harmonious from the beginning. I can't wait for the guys and Karma to be reunited for her to step it up with Storm, Killian, and Seth (they are gonna be explosive but super sensual...I can totally feel it haha). I hope Karma's brother and Mads get together and they have their own spinoff, that would be rad!
I absolutely loved this series and highly recommend it! The charms, powers, and world G Bailey created is so vivid and amazing, I couldn't get enough. I loved the concept of an Irish Karma Goddess who uses charms. So unique and fresh, loved it so much. I could keep gushing about this story, but I will save it for Book 2 when it comes out in June. You won't be let down if you pick up this book. Just know you will have a hangover after because its so good ❤️❤️❤️
A Name Like Karma is the first in its series, it’s a slow burn fantasy RH romance with a cliffhanger ending.
This book is a good start we are introduced to some really well rounded characters. Karma (FMC) has a big heart but hides behind an armour of sarcasm and sass, Killian the humorous one that sees everything, Seth his twin brother that feels deep and long and Storm the leader that is trying to make up for his past mistakes/indecisions. Their group dynamic is intriguing as this is a RH however there is an underlying competitiveness between the males; they are cordial to each, friendly even but when it comes to Karma they become possessive neanderthals. As it’s a slow burn I foresee their relationship grow and change in future sequels.
The plot is fantastic though; Karma is assigned to deliver bad karma to someone and obviously things go wrong and she ends up accidentally killing them thus ending up with the twins of justice and being thrown in prison to die and be forgotten. She’s been set up and framed but what for we are yet to find out. She will become a commodity buts she doesn’t understand why she’s ended up in such a massive mess. It’s her hope that she can escape prison and find out hopefully the twins and Storm can help her.
The book is filled with magic, the starting of an epic romance and a mystery to be solved what’s not to like.
I have to admit that I love absolutely everything that I have read from Bailey. Her characters are always so well developed and her writing just sucks me right into the story. Karma was no exception.
'A Name Like Karma' is the first installment in this series so we end up learning a lot about Karma and her life. The book also spends time building the world in which this story takes place.
So Karma is a goddess that loves dealing out bad karma to those that deserve it. Unfortunately for her, she tends to make a mess of things. On one such occasion, she accidentally kills a higher level god and chaos ensues.
During her adventure, she begans to discover that not everything she was led to believe was true. We also meet her love interests who are so drool worthy. I honestly don't have a favorite because the guys are awesome and hot/sexy..... can not forget the hot/sexy part.
Karma herself is a strong, quirky character who is easy to love. I can not wait to learn more about her powers.
Humorous and sexy! This book is a real page turner. I recommend planning on not getting anything done once you start this book. I seriously could NOT stop reading it once I started.
A Name Like Karma is a fun and exciting story about a unique group of gods.
Karma is just as her name suggests, a goddess of Karma. She and her family dole out karma to those who deserve it, good and bad. As a minor goddess her powers are limited, until she somehow accidentally kills a higher god. With Seth and Killian, the twin gods of justice now after her, Karma goes on the run as her life is changed forever.
The Secret Gods is an exciting new series that introduces us to a new set of gods that live by their own set of rules. I love the creation of the prison and how it has become a somewhat peaceful community, despite its intention of being a lock up for criminal gods and goddesses.
Karma is a fun character who, despite her many hilarious mistakes and shenanigans, has a very good heart. Her goblin Kit is a fun sidekick who loves to eat more than anything! I enjoyed Seth and Killian, especially getting to know them a little more as the story went on, but I think Storm might be my favorite guy in this one.
The cliffhanger this ends on is a toughy, and I can't wait to find out what happens to Karma next, and how Seth, Killian, and Storm will deal with their conflicting emotions.
Warning, incomplete series with a kidnapping cliffhanger. I’d have given this book 4 stars if the author had skipped the cliffhanger.
Recommend you wait for the series to be complete before reading.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
A Name Like Karma is book one from this new series from the author. Like the title suggests, the story revolves around Karma, our sassy, funny and has the worst luck considering she got a lot of charms. She is a karma goddess and dealt good and bad karma to those who deserves it. After accidentally killing a higher god which is impossible (I told you, worst luck ever) she tried to run away from the twin gods of justice while desperately thinking of a way to prove her innocence.
I loved that the author tried to shine a light to obscure and not so tackled characters like Karma. She made the character likeable and the whole story in a light, fun way (I usually associated karma in a bad way so this story is interesting and a welcome surprise). There is action, totally hilarious moment (that involves a talking goat and a biting goblin. Yes, you heard that right), and delicious, intense moments with the men. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I can’t wait for the next book!
G. Bailey has stepped it up with the first book in her new series A Name Like Karma - The Secret Gods Series.
This reverse harem series, is an amazing story with a new God that hasn’t been explored before (or at least I haven’t seen), the Goddess of Karma. With a name the same as her job, Karma Maria Kismet and her family are the gods of karma - both good and bad, but Karma prefers the bad kind.
With a necklace of lucky charms and an anklet for a few of the less important charms, her jobs are never dull. Unfortunately one job leads her into a world of trouble.
For those of you who believe in karma, this is definitely a story for you.
A Name Like Karma has such an amazing ending, that it left me wanting to read A Name Like Justice immediately. I highly recommend the beginning to The Secrets Gods Series.
A Name Like Karma is another great series start from G. Bailey. She is good at coming up with completely different paranormal romances that you just devour. In A Name Like Karma, you get pretty much what the title says. We have Karma, a Karma goddess whose job is to dish out Karma to those who deserve it. She can do good and bad, but she prefers to dish out the bad ones. The rest of her family is really good and doing the good karma. That being said, Karma is actually not that great at her job, and most often than not, needs some rescuing. When a job goes more wrong than usual, she finds herself being hunted by the twin gods of justice. Let the games begin!!
This really is a great new start to an interesting series. As usual, the storyline flowed fast, and kept my interest until the end. If you are a G. Bailey fan than you will love A Name Like Karma.
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*** Gem sure does have this magical way looping you into her books and leaves you wanting more with your jaw dropped open. This was such a refreshing take on a book and I instantly fell in love with Karma and her men. Karma has this take it as it is attitude and speaks what is on her mind. I love how she is a strong character and knows what she wants. She also has the worst luck which is how she ends up locked up with Storm, Seth, and Killian. Man I would love to be locked up with these 3 men as well! Each has very different personalities but all have their own sexiness about them. Storm is currently my favorite. I love his alpha, take charge attitude. THAT ENDING.... WHAT!??!?!!!! I really cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
This was an ok read. Definitely a slow burn, I think the most sexy times action a few short kisses, which left a lot to be desired in a romance rh book. I like the idea and concept but the facts seem to be a little confusing. Storm is only 400 yrs old yet the other high Gods were around before people? There were a few grammatical and spelling errors where linking words were missing and made the flow confusing and difficult to read. Karma seems to be a bit of a basic bitch young girl who knows nothing of real life and is a bit of a 1 dimensional character with a few quirks. I'm going to read the next books in this series though, I am curious about where the story is going even though I'm not overly impressed with the writing.
There are 3 ranks when it comes to reading G. Bailey's addictive books: love, flove, & love, love. Guess which rank I'm deeming A Name Like Karma (🥁 please) flove, love this book. Karma is the MC with a pet sidekick (erm...more or less), after reading this you will flove, love every character. (Not gonna lie the shiny, pretty cover & blurb are what got me.) I'm not going to put any spoilers in here, so you just have to pick this baby up, read, & review for yourself. I'm patiently unpatiently waiting for book 2, A Name Like Justice, because not only of the cliffhanger but I'm hooked on Karma. (I received this as an ARC for a honest review.)
In 5 words: Seriously good story worth reading. This book is a great mix of lighthearted humour and well thought out drama. Overall its’ great characters, interpersonal dynamics and interesting fantasy world create an engaging read. The style of writing is consistent with G. Bailey’s other works; so if you have enjoyed previous books then A Name Like Karma is for you. Didn’t give it full 5 stars as it ends on a ‘cliff hanger’ and reads more like the first third of a story instead of a standalone novel. If you keep this in mind you should enjoy it nonetheless.
A Name Like Karma is the first book in an interesting series by G. Bailey. Karma is exactly what her name suggests, a karma goddess whose job it is to bring karma to those that deserve it. However, she isn't too good at her job and often needs to be rescued herself. When a job goes terribly wrong, Karma finds herself being hunted by the twin gods of justice and she, and them, find themselves in a place they did not expect. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It took me a bit to get into it, but once I did, I enjoyed the story and characters very much. I am curious to see where the next book takes these characters.
Four words I'd use to describe this wonderful tale that G Bailey has told us. I love that we have a "god" story that is unique in that you have various levels of gods, and rules governing each level. I honestly could not get enough of Karma's personality and attitude, because she really is really funny and the kind of person I wish I could be friends with. I really liked that we got to see small glimpses into the inner musings of some of the other characters with small POV changes.
I will say I'm interested to see what is to come for Karma, Seth, Killian and Storm, because that ending was a major blindside I did not see coming!
G. Bailey is one of my favorite authors, and this book just reinforces why. A whole new world with unique rules, old Gods and singular purposes - along with a prison that isn’t a prison and crimes that are justice in disguise. It’s beautiful and convoluted, yet not confusing. Can’t wait for book 2 to drop on June 8th!
~ First person, multiple POV. Slowburn, MMMF
Pros: - Funny! - Well written! - Flows easily and Transitions smoothly. - Great world building. - I love ALL the characters. - Kit, the goblin.... I want one.
Cons: - Minor editing issues. - Prologue makes no sense, it’s an excerpt from Chapter 1....
I was very excited for this book and I can't wait for the next one. I have so many questions! I love Kit that little rascal. I'm also intrigued to see how the men will work out their relationship with Karma. I love reading about possessive, 'she's mine' men realize that they have to share because the woman is #whychoose it's great and every author has a different take and I can't wait to read what Karma's take will be. I also have so many questions about Karma herself. I like Storm but once again the twins steal my heart and whisk me away. I will reading the next book!
Karma is a bitch. 😉 No, not really. Karma, in this case, is an interesting little Irish goddess that has the worst luck a Karma goddess could ever have. When just about everything that could go wrong for her does go wrong, she has to rely on the two people who are in charge of hunting her down to help her figure out why there are things happening in their world that go against everything. The story line is solid, the characters are addicting and there are hot alpha guys all falling for the same girl. What more could one want? 😍
You lost me on this one. I’m a sucker for Karma stories. Great start and plot, I liked the family relationship and the sibling bond between Pey and Karma. Michael was funny and I was curious about Kit. It was good and unique up until the god killing. From there it was rushed, choppy and a little samey, especially with the three cookie cutters. Cliffhanger ending but I’m not sure if I wanna read the next one.
No spoilers of any kind included. This book was awesome but then again every just about every book that I’ve read by G. Bailey has been fantastic! I love the way that she weaves her stories, because they just reach out and grab you and won’t release you until you get to the end of the stories. So yes I am definitely going to recommend this book to anyone who’s interested in crawling into this book and getting completely lost within its pages!
Love this book! Karma keeps you constantly on your toes. Her wit and sarcasm are honestly what makes the book. I love all the side characters such as Michael, Kit, and Jade. You can't help but fall in love with each character. Or drool and mentally combust in regards to her love interests. Over all the story was amazing and I would personally recommend to anyone who loves paranormal reverse harems with a healthy dose of karma.
An amazing start to another G. Bailey series. Karma is such a delightful character. Especially how she runs from a fight and loves peanut butter. Michael and Kit really add such fun to the plot. The guys, Storm, Killian and Seth are all yummy and I’m so excited for the next book. It can’t come soon enough.
