Like You Want It

Rate this book
“Sometimes, wanting someone just isn’t enough.”

I don’t want to believe those words. Because I’ve never fallen for someone like Fin Callaghan. And I can’t imagine that this feeling isn’t enough.

CARLY
To say my first interaction with Fin leaves much to be desired is an understatement. He infuriates me, barely speaks, and glares at me all the time. Not to mention he thinks I’m a mess.

It isn’t in my plans to start to like him. To fall for him. To want something more. But Fin’s past is filled with a pain that makes any kind of us impossible. He can’t seem to figure out what he wants, and truthfully, neither can I.

All I know is that I want more than what he’s willing to give.

FIN
All I should be focusing on is my family as we try to sort through the wounds left by our past mistakes. I have more than enough on my plate, have sacrificed too much to fracture my focus. I shouldn’t allow a woman to get in the way. Especially one like Carly Palmer.

She’s different. Wild. A bright burst of color in my world of black and white. Before I know it, she’s all that I want. All I can think about. But it doesn’t matter. I’ve been through betrayal that still singes my skin, eats at my soul.

I won’t allow it to happen again.

Like You Want It is the second book in the Like You series and is a standalone novel.

What a sweet story!! First off let me just say how much I loved Carly! That girl is so dang funny. I was constantly laughing out loud from the wacky and crazy things that she would say. And it always cracked me up seeing what new nicknames she could come up with for Fin! So so funny.

The romance in this book was to die for! But in addition to that, what also makes this story so great is how the author incorporates important life lessons into it. It was a really refreshing thing to see and read and although it was for the characters in the book, I found myself highlighting it as well to serve as good life lessons for myself personally.

Okay going back to the romance! You can’t help but root for Carly and Fin. Sure, things don’t start off so smoothly for them in the beginning...but isn’t that how all the best loves begin? Together, they are on fire!! *SWOON*

By the end of this book I was left with a big smile on my face and happy tears. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from this book! I loved it!

For some reason I had a difficult time feeling connected to these characters. Maybe it was outside factors contributing, but I felt like there was too much happening. Carly was relentlessly happy, even appearing a bit manic to me. And Fin was, IMO, a bit of a judgmental jerk. Sure he was dealing with stuff, but aren't we all? I would say give it a chance and see if you identify with these characters.

Jillian Liota is a newer to me author, this only being my second book of hers. The first one I read, Like You Mean It, was so good I HAD to have more. Her writing is so smooth and flawless. She has quickly climbed up the ranks as one of my new favourite authors. Even though I received both books as eARCs, I have to buy the hard copies!

Like You Want It had everything I love in a book – a strong female protagonist, a sexy brooding guy, strong friendship, family, forgiveness, steamy sexiness and wisdom. Plus elements of mental health, addiction, teen pregnancy and grief.

Carly is one of those relentlessly optimistic people that could very easily get overwhelming and annoying, but her self-awareness allows her to know when to dial it back. She doesn’t have a perfect life and she doesn’t pretend to, but she chooses happiness and positivity. The level of quirkiness made me laugh multiple times and I just wanted to hug her and be her best friend. I need some Carly in my life.

Carly, it’s okay for people to not like you. Everyone prefers different things and people, and you don’t have to be everything to everyone.

Everybody finds her quirkiness hard to resist, especially Fin, her neighbours swoon-worthy but broody brother. He has his share of obstacles and issues to overcome, but that doesn’t deter Carly from falling for him. It didn’t deter me from falling for him either. I love his chapters and getting to see his side of the story and why he was the way he was.

Susie is a character that has to be mentioned because he story on its own is an emotional one. Without giving anything away, Carly is able to insert herself into Susie and Fin’s lives and shows them that no amount of big mistakes or bad decisions mean they don’t deserve to be loved and forgiven.

Anyone who makes you feel like you don’t deserve friendship and happiness just because you made some bad choices in your past is a person you should strike from your friend list, immediately.

This is a must read for anyone who likes fluffy hate-to-love romance; fluffy like a big storm cloud fluffy, holding so much inside waiting to let it all rain down.

This was a story that didn’t know I needed. This story resonated with me deep down in my soul. I laughed, I cried, and I highlighted so many damn quotes. The characters we’re messy and flawed in very realistic ways, and it was such a joy to go on the journey with them as they grew through what they were going through.

Carly is one of those people you might find kind of annoying, but you also wish you could be her. Her optimism is like the sun, and she takes the time to really think about the whole picture. I love her friendship with Susie, and how Carly builds her up and supports her. Carly is really good about being selfless. Her friend Dina is hilarious and brash, and I’d love to get to know her more.

That brings me to send Fin, who I want to call something else, but don’t want to give it away. Just wait until you hear Carley’s nicknames. Fin is dark and broody and definitely flawed, but his journey of growth in the story is so fulfilling. It was so satisfying to see the different sides of him show up throughout the story. With his and Susie’s family, there are issues but there is so much love and loyalty. The family dynamics for both characters were so realistic and really added to the story.

I think what made this book really impactful, is all of the wise words throughout the story. There is an open communication portrayed in a very realistic way, where characters struggle to have it, but eventually get to it. The relationships just become so healthy, and it really is wonderful to see that depicted in a book. The positive portrayal of therapy in this book is like a breath of fresh air. The therapist has this magnificent line when someone thinks therapy isn’t going to work for them—it wasn’t therapy is good for everyone and I won’t spoil for you because it’s so good, but it just made me say, “YES, that right there, YES!”

This story has so much damn heart, and I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a romance with ALL THE FEELS.

Thank you so much to Jillian Liota for the review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Such an amazing book!!!!

I can’t even begin to describe the level of love I have for this book. It was so incredibly everything! Emotional, thought provoking, funny and silly, serious and heartbreaking, steamy and just plain amazing. Carly was the perfect heroine. She was smart strong funny and so happy I almost didn’t like her lol. But what I absolutely loved about her was that she was strong and independent and she knew her own mind and she made no apologies for who she is, but she also had some insecurities that just made her seem so real. I loved how she took to Susie and encouraged her and befriended her with no judgements. I definitely have a girl crush. Fin. He was an ass but oh so hot. Once I learned more and more of his history and through his POV I came to understand why he was the way he was. I hated how he treated Carly at one point but I knew he needed to face his demons before he could get to a place where he deserved her and actually knew it himself. The chemistry between Carly and Fin was palpable and I absolutely loved them together. This was probably the best book I’ve read this year. I can’t even believe how strongly I feel about it. The writing was really good and there’s honestly not one thing bad I can say about it! ❤️❤️❤️

Ah well, you win some, you lose some.

While I loved the first book in this series, I didn't enjoy this one quite as much. I really loved Carly, and I was excited that she was getting a story. But Fin...no thanks. I felt like Carly could have done so much better than him.

I actually really loved the friendship between Carly and Susie. They were so good as friends and so good for each other. I loved the times they were hanging out. I felt like Fin just got in the way.

I didn't like how wishy washy Fin was. I didn't like how he knew Carly would want more and kept their "no strings" going. I didn't like how he treated her when she told him she wanted more. I didn't like how he did a quick turn around and everything was HEA. I'm all for HEA (and require it), but it was too quick. I realize that Carly isn't the type of person to torture people and make them work unnecessarily hard for forgiveness, but everything happened so easily for Fin. And I felt like he and Carly never actually talked. Everything she learned about Fin, she learned from Susie

I just didn't feel like Fin and Carly had much of a relationship outside of the bedroom.

You will fall in love with Carly and Fin! This book made me feel all kinds of emotions and I love it! The openness about mental health, addiction, and loss and the benefits of going to therapy was fantastic!

Honestly, I don’t pick up romance novels often. There are times the romance is too farfetched that I can’t look past it. However, the romance was the perfect amount. I hope you find Fin and Carly as sexy as I did! 😍

The authenticity of Finn and Carly is off the charts! I felt like I was in the story with them from the first chapter and couldn’t put the book down. Jillian dives into themes of mental health and addiction with much needed openness. These characters had so much realness and raw chemistry, I didn’t want the book to end. Captivating, sexy, and raw, this book is a must read!!

Like You Want It is the new release of author Jillian Liota. A love story filled with friendship, forgiveness and self acceptance.

"I may not be perfect, but being me is good enough."

I really enjoyed all the characters in Like You Want It. Carly is probably the happiest character I have ever read about. She is a big ball of sunshine on a day to day basis. On the inside she is a little insecure and wishes she was enough for people, but she doesn't take those negative feelings out on others. Fin is a big sexy ball of anger and resentment. His hot and cold interactions with Carly gave me whiplash. I mean he had legit reasons for feeling the way he did but that didn't make it okay for him to treat her that way, so I am glad she stood up for herself. I absolutely loved Fin's sister Susie she might have been my favorite character of all of them and I hope that the author writes her a book because she definitely deserves a good man and a happily ever after.

"Sometimes being lost is okay. Sometimes getting lost leads you to something beautiful."

The story line itself was good but I felt at times it seemed to drag and get preachy. However, the sex scenes between Carly and Fin totally made up for that. The sexual chemistry and aggressive sex between them was explosive. It was great that for once in a romance book the girl was the dirty talker instead of the guy and it totally worked for Carly. She knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to voice it to Fin. Another thing I love about the story is how strong the female friendships in it were. Carly puts her friendship with Susie first and foremost and that's the way real friends should be. I also really appreciated the therapy aspect to the book. Carly embraces that she see's a therapist consistently to help her with her struggles and other characters turn to it to help them figure out what's going on inside their heads and help them personally grow.

"She's kind and beautiful and funny and just this brightness that fills the cracks I didn't realize I had in my chest."

Overall, Like You Want It is a sweet love story. A slow burn romance with great characters, witty banter, strong female friendships, and positive mental health representation. I am looking forward to reading more Jillian Liota books in the future.

"You're all I can think about," he whispers, placing a single kiss below my ear. "The only thing on my mind, no matter where I am or what I'm doing."

N E W - F A V O R I T E !! 5 PLUS PLUS

This is not my first read or review by the lovely Author! I am extremely happy to have a very early ARC and couldn't wait to dive in.

I first have to say how much in love i am with the heroine Carly! I seriously want to be her when I grow up! So free, and knows who she is and is so comfortable in her own skin. She is who she is!! Carly is a woman who works at a coffee shop and part time yoga instructor at the local gym. She likes what she does and doesn't want to change it. I guess you can say she is comfortable with her life also. When she finds out that the shop will be closing, she starts to wonder what she would and can do else in life. Aside begin comfortable. When she meets Fin it isn't under good circumstances, but she tried to make the best out of it, after all he was half naked and she couldn't hear him anyways over her loud music.

Fin is a broody broody sexy of a hero , he protects whats his with his life even if that protection can be overbearing. Que in Carly that DOES meet his sister (her new neighbor) and they hit it off...even after Fin specifically told Carly to stay away from his sister. Fin is arrogant but an amazing man (you'll see).

Carly is always judged, by her looks, the way she talks, what she says. You can only pretend and push forward for so long. It gets hurtful. Fin on the other had has a little secret (well secret to you because I can't tell you hehe) that shocks Carly in 7 different ways. GAH, that's when I fell in love with FIN, damn him and his arrogant mouth but this... *swoon*

The pair together is like firework, the writing is absolutely beautiful, smooth and the transitions perfect. It felt more like being in the story rather than reading it. Painful, tragic but passionate story, I just LOVED every page, The characters you meet in this aside from the hero and heroine are equally great, I especially loved Susie.

I will have to forewarn you in the best way possible THE SEX SCENES are hotter than hell! Sorry but, there is so much more this time & the heat between the hero and heroine is unbelievable!

Rating this a HIGH 5 & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Made it to my TOP 2019 MUST READ list!

"But I guess that's just how things work in life. We find what's comfortable for us, and that ends up being all we know and want. Both for ourselves, and for others."

Like You Want It by Jillian Liota is a passionate fervent read with unique characters and back-stories. It is a story about finding your feet in the world, friendship, and love amidst the hard tracks life puts you up against. It is a book I greatly enjoyed and felt everyone should too!

Carly and Fin's romantic development started off on a rocky path but builds up steadily. Once it takes off, it REALLY takes off. I have so many reasons to root for this couple. Most of all it's probably because they are the complete opposite. Carly is vibrant, constantly cheery all the time, and energy 'sun-shinning-on-me' energy. While Fin is brooding, protective, and not a very optimistic guy. They had their ups and downs, but despite their disagreements, denials, and banter, they do make compromises with the relationship.

I also root for the friendship between Carly and Susie, they have a genuine and overall positive relationship. They don't throw judgments early on and instead support each other's decision and well-being.

The author brings out profound meaning in every mundane conversation between the characters. It is filled with important life lessons any adult and young adult would appreciate. Each character carries their own baggage but proved to beat the odds and overcome their own mistakes in the pasts.

This is such a good book to pass up without giving a chance. Fully recommended.

Firstly, Fin is a STUD. Book boyfriend material in a broody-asshole-that's-also-lovable way.

And if you struggle to find heroines that aren't perfect and are quirky (yet still believable), here you go. Meet Carly. Better yet, she's incredibly kind without being your typical Mary Sue character. I HATE Mary Sue characters.

Their inital animosity was palpable, I was just as pissed as Carly was at their meet-cute. Then, similarly, their sexual tension jumped off the page too. Check and check. Few authors can actually make me picture sexual encounters and have me needing to get my fan out. That dance floor scene! Phew!!!

HOT.

This was a new author for me, but I'll be checking her out again in the future. I'm curious about the heroine's brother and what his story might be. But, you know, also kinda curious about the hero's sister. She might have a good story too.

This book started me off with uncontrollable giggles, and the inner dialog for our Female lead only got more zany and hysterical from there! I really loved her character, and the banter between she and Finn were entertaining as all get out. Their attraction was undeniable, feelings palpable, and the push/pull between them absolutely maddening at times. A little drawn out, it all hit my heart in the end, and I couldn't be more pleased that I was given a copy to review!!

4 Talking it out is tough stars!!
This book had way more depth than I was expecting that’s for sure, it talks about drugs, depression, therapy, and a whole lot more. I’m always excited to see a book, any genre that opens about any of these topics. You had both sides with the therapy too. One family that was quieter about what they were going through and one that was very open and forward. This romance was going to be complicated from the beginning you just knew that because Carly is such an outgoing personality. She is literally nicknamed Sunshine to everyone, and Fin is very much a controlled person. He must have everything a certain way at a certain time or else.

I loved Carly’s character from the beginning how outgoing she was, that she loved to make other people smile. That is very much my personality so I could relate to her right off the bat. She makes the book down right comical at times. It’s very nice that she friends everyone off the bat, especially her upstairs neighbor. Her interactions with everyone at the coffee shop was great. I loved the description of her apartment, and how Fin thought that made her a not so good person. The fact that Carly’s original best friend automatically takes on Fin’s sister as a new best friend just goes to show you the kind of people, she surrounds herself with. Her nicknames for Fin were one of the highlights of the book. 😀

Fin was so broody, if a broody person could be more than broody that’s Fin. I understand after getting more of the story why he is so grumpy all the time, even if he is taking it out on the wrong people. He is adorably sweet to his sister and I’m so glad that he stepped up for her. His indecisiveness is what leads to all the drama in the book so I can’t say I connected to him as much as Carly but my heart did bleed for all the pain he had went through before he met Carly. Any time he was with Nell my heart melted a little more for him though.

There was a ton of family drama in this one on top of the romance and I’m really interested to see if the author writes about any of the other characters next? I’m glad that she didn’t shy away from any of the heavier topics and laid it all out there in the open.

There were some really great lines in this book that I just kept highlighting..
She nods, giving me a soft smile. “We do. That’s why it all hurts so badly. And why we’ve been trying so hard to fix it.” Then she looks at Nell, lifts her up slightly so they’re looking eye-to-eye. “The most important relationships in your life are the ones you want. The one you choose even when everything falls apart.
I smirk. “Well, aren’t you becoming quite the philosopher.”

4.5 STARS! Another incredible novel by the talented Jillian Liota!

I absolutely loved the heroine Carly and her spunky, optimistic, carefree ways! She was such a breath of fresh air for a romance read. But don't be fooled, under that whimsical outer shell was a very confused, insecure and vulnerable woman trying to find her footing in life. She was perfectly flawed in every way! I laughed out loud so many times during this book because of Carly's personality, her witty spats with Fin and her quirkiness.

Fin, Finnegan, Finton, Finneas... whatever you want to call him, he was THAT swoon-worthy book boyfriend! The one who's unbelievably hot, smoldering even. But broken. Closed off. Guarded. Temperamental. It seemed no one could bring his walls down. That was certainly the case until Carly came barreling into his life. She charged in with the same interruption that her pulsing music which shook his sister's walls had! He'd finally met his match in that petite, brunette, colorful spitfire.

What started off as a casual fling, quickly turned much, much more emotionally involved. But could these two make it work with everything going on around them? Would they repeat past mistakes? Would their relationship hurt the one person who brought them together?

The story of these two was filled with drama, mistakes, heart break, difficult decisions, grief, pain and hope. Both characters were carrying around burdens that were too heavy to overcome alone. "Because we all need someone in our corner who believes the best in us, wants the best for us." This quote summed up my feelings so well for this book. No matter how bad you messed up, no matter what mistakes you made in the past, everyone deserved someone in their corner. This theme flowed through the story for multiple characters, not just the hero and heroine.

Susie's (Fin's younger sister) story was so raw, honest and gut wrenching! The bond that she shared with her brother and forged with Carly was incredible! Her messy life really brought some extremely humbling scenes to this read! Of all the relationships that sparked in this book, I held my breath most for her and Nell. I wanted nothing more than to see Susie's past forgiven and her future shine bright and promising!

This book was so emotionally charged. With each turn of the page, you were feeling numerous things at once. I loved how authentic the characters were. The author took the time to build the characters and their stories. Like You Want It was chaotic and honest and beautifully tender!

An absolute treat of a read! I was glued to my kindle from start to finish! This story is heartfelt and emotional!

The characters are flawed and real, and I felt a connection with every single one. They have made choices they aren’t proud of, but they are all finding their way. Carly is so quirky, honest, caring, and has a huge heart. Fin is sexy, and there for his loved ones. Susie is a fighter, and a loving mom. Carly and Susie’s love for 80’s movies is the best, and I love their friendship.

The connection between Carly and Fin is a bit of push and pull. Mostly on Fin’s part, but for reasons from his past. There is an immediate spark, and the intimate parts are on fire. Also, the little moments, such as just watching a movie, or having a conversation made me swoon.

These characters are finding their way. From Fin’s anger regarding choices he made and his hurt from betrayal, to Carly living her life as she wants and not made to feel like her choices are a mistake. Susie getting her life on track, dealing with decisions made because of her addiction, and finally getting to be with her daughter.

I also must point out that the moments between Carly and GP are the sweetest and brought a tear to my eye.

This story has unwavering friendships, a love worth taking a risk, and family that stands by each other! The writing is wonderful and I look forward to reading more of Jillian’s books!

I absolutely loved this story! Carly and Fin, ugh they are both perfect. There’s no words to describe how much I love them.

Carly and Fin didn’t start off on the best terms. Carly was kept up most of the night due to the party going on in her new upstairs neighbor’s apartment so she does what any normal person would do. She plays music loudly at six am to wake up her new neighbor. Fin happens to show up at her door and complains about the loud music, only he isn’t her new neighbor, his sister is.

Carly may be one of my favorite heroines ever. She is a free spirit, she is truly a ray of sunshine and radiates happiness to those around her. Of course, she isn’t perfect and has some issues with her family but who doesn’t? Fin takes broodiness to the max but you can’t help but love him, especially the more you go to know him and his story throughout the book.

The secondary characters in this story were also fantastic, especially Susie (Fin’s sister, Carly’s new neighbor and friend). Susie’s story truly broke my heart, but she is a warrior and fighting to make everything right again. This story was beautiful, it was heart breaking, emotional and oh man, was it steamy! I felt like I needed to fan myself a few times while reading this.

This story was a page turner and I didn’t want it to end. A must read of 2019 and one I would highly recommend to anyone and everyone!

So sweet!

I normally don’t go for the contemporary romance genre, unless I’m in the mood for a tooth ache - which, let’s face it, does happen. This novel inspires that kind of tooth ache, with the perfect blend of angst, romance, self realization and sap. It’s a good combination, and if your going to spend your time on the sticky, this over is worth it. I loved Carly, though I didn’t start that way. The girl is just so blasted happy... all.. the... time! I couldn’t relate. Until I could. She starts to make sense, and by the end, Carly became one of my unsung heroes.

Pros:
- Honest romance.
- This hurts the hard parts of life we ALL deal with yet none of us really accepts.
- Carly.... so freaking bubbly and honestly? Pretty dang wonderful.
- Though I personally relate to Dina more.
- I live in Southern California and this author actually got the geography right. I recognized what she was talking about.

Cons:
- HEA, but a bit more implied that blatant.
- I want to see the outcome of her brothers relationship!
- Formatting issues, doubt it’s the fault of the author, just the upload.
- Minor editing issues.

I love a unique story with imperfect characters, stories with a message, with heart-swoony moments and laugh out loud scenes. These are my absolute fav books, and that is what I got when I read LYMI. First, the true star of this book, Carly, is this free spirited, perpetually optimistic, kinda lost, but mostly found, strong and vulnerable woman who is trying to fight against the wind of straight laced, methodical people who think they know the formula of success for everyone. She fights hard to preserve her happiness with her life just as it is, just as imperfectly perfect as it is. And she is the one bright spot in everyone’s life that she touches. The chemistry between her and Fin was instant, and the romance was easy, but not the relationship. I adored Carly and Fin together. But I really liked the messages of loving yourself enough to give that love to others and allow it to come back to you too. Beautiful story.
Just a note to the author- would love a follow up book with this couple and this family. I am new to your writing, but I will not be for long.

Like You Want It was my first book by Jillian Liota, and it wont be my last! I read it a few days ago, and I an still thinking about it (that’s how I know it was good!)
I loved Carly’s positive attitude and her willingness to help everybody. She made me laugh and smile the entire time I was reading the book!
Fin I loved from the beginning, but I really loved him at the end. He was able to really grow and learn about himself throughout the book. It was different than other books with similar characters and I appreciated that!
Together Carly and Fin were so good for each other. They evened each other out and were able be their best selves!
All of the characters were complex and I didn’t feel like I was missing any information about them. I would love to see a story with Susie, oh and one with Dina!

Jillian strikes again. She is a newer to me author and I really liked her book Like You Mean It. She gave me an ARC for this one and it was so good. The entire time I thought “She’s another Mariana Zapata.” I am pretty sure I will read anything this author puts out.

Few things I loved about this book
• slow burn love that started with some animosity
• really strong female friendships
• a healthy idea of mental health, including self positivity and overcoming hang ups through tough conversations and therapy
• a heroine that lives her own life without succumbing to society’s pressure of what success looks like

Please check this book out. Just trust me on it.

Another doormat heroine

The whole book I just wanted to scream at her to stand up and put her foot down. At the very end, when she finally decided to do just that, of course the H decides he finally wants more than to treat her like a booty call and all is perfect again. These types of endings are so very frustrating and kill a book for me. I would rather her ended up alone or with someone else than to just wait around for a man to decide she is worthy of him.

4.5 stars for Like You Want It by Jillian Liota. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read by this author and I absolutely loved it. She has a great writing style.
I am going to start by saying I loved Carly’s character. She is a breath of fresh air, and always has a smile on her face. She is an optimist and has a great outlook on life. I love how Carly has had bad things happen in her life but is still so positive. I wish I could have someone in my life like Carly. This book was filled with laughs, but also had so much depth. It deals with issues like drug addiction, self-acceptance, and a little self- discovery. It is a sweet story filled with real issues.
Carly is an artist and an eternal optimist. She always has a smile on her face. That is until the mourning she blares her music to get revenge on the new neighbor for the late-night party. In comes Finn. Her broody and sexy new neighbor’s brother. He does not like Carly from the start and warns her to stay away from his sister. “ I might not be perfect, but being me is good enough.”
Carly is always judged by how she acts and looks.
“Carly, it’s okay for people to not like you. Everyone prefers different things and people, and you don’t have to be everything to everyone.”
How long can Carly stay optimistic when her feelings for Finn start to change. Finn has been closed off to love and relationships for a while. The feeling he is getting for Carly could change that. Finn has always and will always protect his family no matter what.
These two characters are great. I loved everything about them together. Carly is simply amazing. I wish more people could be like her, this world might be a happier place, but that is a whole other subject. I really would love to be friends with someone like her. I wanna say the bases of this book is not to judge someone based on first impressions.
“You Don’t judge someone on first impressions without getting a whole heaping lot of shit wrong. My mom used to say that you can make an assumption when you first meet someone, and that’s just human nature. But how you choose to treat someone regardless of that assumption is what makes your character.”
The quote right there is basically what this book is about. I am telling you that you will not regret picking up this book. It has amazing characters, amazing story line and is just simply amazing.

♡ "I am the most positive, optimistic, annoyingly happy person that I know"

Where do I start with Carly Palmer… Carly isn’t perfect, she’s working through her own issues just like anyone else but chooses to do so with positivity and self-realization practices. Her outlook on the world is to see the light where there is darkness, to focus on your inner ‘Why’. She has a mind filled with movie quotes and a personality filled with more optimism than you can throw an inspirational poster at… and she annoyed me… so so much.

I don’t mean that in a bad way at all either because the style in which Jillian writes was so perfectly layered, that after a while that seemingly insufferable sunshine attitude buried deep in my soul, and I totally got her, and damn if I didn’t want to be friends with her.

And then there’s Fin Callaghan…. or Finelope, Finando, Finocchio, Fin Diego…whatever takes your fancy (or makes you laugh the most – and trust me there are so many more options)… the broody, drool worthy, protective brother of Carly’s new neighbour Susie. Fin is a bit of a lost soul, still harbouring old wounds from the battle of life which has built a wall around his heart. His focus for so long has been on his sister and the circumstances surrounding that, that he did not see the jackhammer of a personality that is Carly until she had made the first crack in his soul and let her sunshine in.

Yes, this is a romance novel – and a steamy one at that, but what I loved about it more is the many raw and emotional moments throughout the book which impacted so many of the characters. These moments give you tough and genuine conversations on grief, loyalty, mental health, family and self-worth. Having read Jillian’s other novels, it is truly a pleasure to see how much she has grown as an author. These characters are sharper and so well defined, no matter if they are free spirit heroine, the fiercely loyal sassy bestie or the sister with struggles of her own.

I loved this book and look forward to the next one... and not so secretly hope that we get to see more from Susie… or Dina… or Caleb… no pressure!

Wow…. I stayed up all night to finish reading this book….. this story made me call my best friend and remind her why she is important to me. I want to be Carly because she may seem annoying, but she grows on you, she would rather see the positive in any situation rather than dwell on the negative. She makes the time and effort to be a good friend to Susie. Susie is going through a lot and is just learning to live a semi normal life. Carly has the personality that likes to be bold and not to be afraid of what others think. Her friend Dina, was a hoot I loved the character that she portrayed, she has also become a close friend for Susie.

As for Fin (insert here numerous crazy names), all I want for him is happiness he is just so sad and dark…. I personally wanted to hold a sign up in his face so realize what decisions that he is making. He really is a selfless man that would do anything for family, do not want to give any more details to not spoil the book. I loved how families really did pull it together in the end, Jillian made it all very realistic on the characters in this story as well as well as writing a good feels story, all I can say is if you like a enemies to lovers trope then you need to read this book.

Not what I expected

First I’ll say, I’ve been in a rut. A book rut. I’ve started dozens of books just this week and nothing was able to capture my attention, I gave up on every single book. I decided to download “Like you want it” and give it a shot on a whim, I couldn’t be happier that I did.

At first glance I didn’t like Carly, I didn’t understand her. She is so bright, shiny, and optimistic that I couldn’t believe it was real. As the story went on though you see her for who she actually is. She makes the choice to be happy and bright not because she never feels bad but because she doesn’t want those bad times to overshadow the good. I love that she never fell apart. She persevered through everything that was thrown at her and lives her life on her terms.

Carly and Fin work together so well. I love the way therapy is introduced and discussed without all of the negative connotations you usually see. I’m so happy with this story and I cannot wait to read more by Jillian Liota.

A Kindle Unlimited offer from a new-to-me-author. I didn't love it, but neither did I hate it. I fell somewhere in the middle of a mish-mash of some things I enjoyed and others I found silly, trite and really unbelievable at times. The H was very unlikable for a big part of the story and not sure he really ever totally redeemed himself. The h was a cheerful, zany character who wore on my nerves after a time. I'm not sure really how to explain the whole situation. Definitely filled with some ups and downs and angst, too, along with some unexplained questions left dangling. The writing was ok and I'm considering trying another of this author's books (there are some rave reviews for her books) just to see if it was just me -- or just this book.

I loved this story!!!! This is the first book of Jillian Liota's that I've read and I must now go back and read the others. Carly may not have had the easiest of life and she may or may not have her sh*t together (depends on who you ask), but she makes a choice to be happy, to see the good and to lift others up. She's not ashamed to admit she goes to therapy to work through her issues and she is just so quirky. I loved her character so much, I want to be friends with her! Fin is another character I really enjoyed. It's so refreshing to read a story with a strong male who is not afraid to seriously work through his issues and talk them out. Granted, it takes him a while to get there, but he does. This was just such a great book!! Just read it!!!
