Uncanny Ink: Books 1-3 Uncanny Ink Collection, Book 1 By: David Bussell, M.V. Stott Narrated by: Helena Little I really enjoyed this snarky, fast paced, female assassin book where Erin is just a normal gal who gets tattoos that make her fast, strong and more. The three stories have demons and other creatures, magic, a mystery of who kidnapped her baby brother, and a love/hate relationship with a sexy assassin. I found myself snickering frequently from the silly, snarky, witty dialogue and descriptions. An enjoyable book despite the main characters being assasins. Definitely will read more by these authors now! Narration was terrific!
So I've actually read all six volumes, and they are well worth the time and money for the enjoyment they give - presuming you enjoy the Uncanny Kingdom's writing style as much as I do. Erin Banks is not lovable, nor a superhero, or even a "true" denizen of the Uncanny Kingdom. She is a severely traumatized woman, augmented by Uncanny ink tattoos drawn on her by an Uncanny blind tattooist, and is desperately seeking closure and vengeance. Her introduction to the Kingdom happened as a side effect of the traumatic kidnapping of her baby brother James. She saw the kidnappers, a walking, talking pig and a red-eyed man. But nobody believed her, and she is blamed for somehow losing her brother. This changed her life completely. She has dedicated her life to finding James and punishing his kidnappers. Except she hasn't a clue who did it, or where they are, or even why they took James. Be advised - we readers don't find out until the final showdown in Book Six, so get the subsequent Books 4, 5 6, and settle in for a binge. Her continuing search for James and his abductors is a sub-plot running through the series. The action is fast and furious, and usually violent. Quite often Erin gets trounced, injured, tortured or beaten to the edge of death. But usually it is her opponents who suffer the most grievous (read lethally fatal) harm. The Book 6 finale, resolution and denouement are a breathtaking climax to Erin Banks' search the the who and why in the kidnapping of James.
Kicking arse and taking names - Erin is no holds barred and fabulous
I have reviewed all three books separately in more depth but cutting and pasting would make for a very long review. So just let me say that I love this series very much. Erin is an assassin and, as such, is not an obvious role model. She is, however, a superb creation, brought to life from the pen and ink of the two genuises that are David and Matt. At first, I was not sure what we were getting in this series but it didn't take long to be sucked completely into Erin's story. She is surprisingly easy to like, and the cast of characters around her make for a very interesting series. The baddies are very evil, the goodies are not so much black and white as shades of grey and greyer, and the neutrals are fascinating. Even those characters (old and new) that have only cameo appearances left a lasting impression on me. If you have read any of the other series written in the Uncanny Kingdom, you are quite likely to run into familiar faces in this series and the books are all the better for that. If you haven't read any of the others, why not? Grab this boxset, lock the door, turn off the phone, turn ON all the lights and settle down for the duration. Weekend sorted!
Erin is a witty, snarky woman. She had a trauma as a child and due to that became aware of the Uncanny Kingdom. Now she has no magic, but with the help of magic tattoo's (by the way, they HURT) she can keep up with the Uncanny. This is a three book series. The first book finds Erin getting out of jail and then she goes to work for a demon bringing in someone who broke their agreement. Book two, she signs on with a crime family to find their kidnapped son. This is one weird family and no one leaves their sphere unscathed. The third book, is an Uncanny type of court case where you can kill the witnesses. As a matter of fact, the attorneys are hiring you to do just that. This is a fascinating series, not light reading but still keeps you coming back for more.
Wow oh wow. I didn't think you could top the last series of Hexed Detective but Uncanny Ink all 6 books are even more awesome. If you like the macabre fast action packed story with great paranormal characters and plots. These books engage you and won't let you go until you have read them all. If you like paranormal suspense and great storyline Uncanny Kingdom's books are what you need. I am writing this review because I really want everyone to know what great writing is.
This is such a hilarious set! The way the writers put their words together makes me burst out laughing! They are geniuses! This has an off the wall mortal who gets magic tattoos in order to take on some of the nastiest bad guys in the Uncanny Kingdom. Erin Banks is my kind of hero!
