THE CONCLUSION OF THE BRAZEN BULLS MC SERIES

Tulsa, Oklahoma, 2002.

Gary Becker never wanted to lead. He hates to be the center of attention, and he doesn’t feel up to the job. But Delaney shocked the Bulls when he retired and set aside the gavel, and the Bulls shocked Becker when they unanimously voted to hand that gavel over to him.

Now he’s the president of the Brazen Bulls MC, and he’s trying to figure out how to deserve that new flash on his chest, and how to bring the club back from the edge it’s teetering on.

Sage Cleary is trying to figure out her own life and help her mother figure out hers. The latest in a lifelong line of her mom’s abusive boyfriends is one of the worst, and Sage is doing all she can to protect herself and her mom, too. But her mom doesn’t want to be rescued, and doesn’t see that Sage needs rescue, too.

When the mysterious, hot biker who lives behind their house jumps the fence one night and saves them, Sage goes to thank him properly. But he’s older, and thinks she’s too young for him.

Sage has never been one to let a little rejection get in her way, and once she gets to know Becker a little, she’s determined to show him how right they are together. He just needs to see that the truths between their lives are much closer than the years between their births.

I was born and raised in the Midwest, but I was transplanted into the dusty soil of Northern California and have apparently taken root there. An inveterate geek and gamer, I am a fan of many things considered pop culture and maybe even lowbrow.

As a reader, my favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy, but as a writer, I've found my home in romance--or perhaps it's better to say simply "love stories." I have a yen to try other genres, too, at some point, but for now my muse wants to tell stories about lovers and families.

I write for the joy of it, and I write stories that I want to read. If others like them, too, that's just the cherry on top. I’m not interested in rules and formulae. I follow my muse and my characters and let them take me where they want to go, wherever that might be. I like big emotions, dark and light.

I like complicated characters with flaws and weaknesses as well as strengths, and I like each character’s strengths and weaknesses to be different from those of other characters. I’m much more concerned that my characters be interesting and diverse than that they be widely considered to be likable. I try to create people, not types.

Likewise, I want my stories each to be distinct from the others. Once I’ve told a story, I don’t want to tell it again. So even within a series, one of my books might be very different from the next. Some might be very dark, others equally mild.

That isn’t to say there aren’t trends and recurrences in my work. I’m drawn to certain themes and settings, and my muse has her favorite toys and tools. But I guard against those tendencies becoming a formula.

THE ● CONCLUSION ● OF ● THE ● BRAZEN ● BULLS ● MC ● SERIES

Like all good things there comes a time when it must end. As much as I want to stay in the Brazen Bulls world and follow them for the next 20 + years their story arc has come to an end.

Becker ‘wasn’t just a biker. He wasn’t just an outlaw. He wasn’t just a Brazen Bull. He was president of the notorious outlaw biker gang, The Brazen Bulls.’ Being president wasn’t something he wanted, it was something the club decided when their former president retired.

Sage is young -not jailbait young - but close, at the age of just 20 years old. She’s lived a hard life as a child of a mother who's been consistently abused. Sage learned how to survive and be strong as she navigated her way through life.

Becker became a hero -’guardian biker-angel’- when he helped out his neighbor, Sage, who was in danger from her mother’s abusive boyfriend. He never considered Sage beyond a neighbor since she was 24 years his junior. Sage kept coming around and finally forging a bond with Becker.

Usually, the danger in the mc world comes from their lifestyle and dealings except in this story that really isn’t the case. Sage comes with her own set of baggage. That baggage is one that runs deeps and is emotional. I cried both sad and happy tears in several spots in this story.

LEAD is the 8th and final book in the Brazen Bulls. I’m sad this is the end of the series but I know that with any good series it has to know how to end. And I’m more than satisfied with how it all wrapped up. My heart is full of all the connections I got to make with the Brazen Bulls.

The overall arc that flows through Brazen Bulls series is one I love. At its core, it is about being part of a “family” where everyone belongs. In good times and bad, the club supports each other. You can read this series without having read any of the other MC series Ms. Fanetti has written, so far. This series is set back, in time, before her other series … in the mid-‘90s and early-‘00s.

I LOVED THIS BOOK

Lead was the final book of the Brazen Bull series and it ended with so much hope for the future generation of Bulls. Becker wasn’t the most vocal in the previous books and he was a wonderful surprise. The right leader to take over from Delaney. A good man who’s had a tough childhood and that’s one of the reasons why he has to help the twenty four years younger Sage. She’s young but not immature. I needed some time to warm up to her but when she showed her fierceness and her strength I was all in. The age gap worked between Becker and Sage. Her difficult upbringing had toughened her up and didn’t walk around with blinders on. She accepted Becker and his club and vice versa. She evolved into Becker’s old lady flawlessly and he as the Prez.
Brazen Bulls excelled in showing what they are and are good at. Being a family. Blood or not. They show up no matter what.

June 2020 - Becker and Sage are my favorite Bulls couple and this story is one of reckoning for both of them and the Brazen Bulls as a club. I fell deeper into this series this time around. Re-reading these books on the heels of a Night Horde re-read kept me more tethered and connected to the story and the overall arc of the series. This conclusion of the Bulls leaves me breathless each time and now I'm even more super excited to read the stories of the next generation of Bulls. What an excellent 30 days of reading Susan Fanetti MC books. I'm sad it's over again but so grateful to have these books on my shelves and in my heart.

**Lead generously provided in exchange for an honest review.**

5+++ "Come to the Clubhouse." Stars

An epic conclusion, indeed. When a beloved series comes to an end we feel bittersweet, maybe a little sad. Saying to goodbye to characters for whom we've become intimately acquainted feels like saying goodbye to true friends. The Brazen Bulls are those such characters in this enthralling MC series from Susan Fanetti. However, Lead is so proud, so well constructed, and so triumphant for the Brazen Bulls, for Becker and Sage especially, it's hard to feel anything but joy when reading. I cried when I finished - happy tears of being so moved.

Fanetti once again achieves greatness with her brilliant story telling as Becker comes into his role as Club President and meeting the unexpected woman of his dreams. I wish I could better put into the words the depth of emotion Fanetti stirs with her careful and concise choice of words and character development; a testament to the caliber of her writing prowess. I felt a part of these characters and this story in a way that's so unique to any other Fanetti story. After, I don't even know how many books 20+?, the fact that she's still able to do this so strongly, so acutely really astounds me.
"Sage laughed, and the sound made his smile grow. 'Is this how you normally ask girls out?'"

With a club in turmoil the last thing Becker needs is a "little girl" shaking up his personal, very private world. And shake it up she does, Sage is nothing short of a magnetic force in this story and I absolutely love her. Becker and Sage are vulnerable in vastly different ways making them brutally open and humanized to each other. They're as funny and sweet as they are serious and honest with each other. They find an uncanny and unexpected kinship in those ways that teaches them both lessons in making themselves better people both individually and together. Their relationship is jolting, compassionate, and full of promise.
"The trust she put in him so readily, it closed the window on a draft that blew through him."

I felt so much pride reading this book. Pride in this author and pride in these characters. There are more than a handful of moments where I was smiling so big and feeling all the feels, even in those tense moments that really don't call for smiling. It's the way in which this author so keenly chose to take her characters on their jounrey, once again proving how closely she relates and understands them and what they need. This book feels so organic - it's exactly what we needed and didn't even realize.
"We are the club we've always been."

The book is solid and glorious just perfect for a series ending. So many noteworthy moments and conversations that take the Bulls, Becker, and Sage to unforeseen yet fitting ends. I gave a piece of my heart away to Becker and Sage and it feels magnificent. These are outlaws and their women but the constructs of hope Fanetti weaves within her pages shine ever so bright. No matter the setting or the plot the themes of hope, love, strength and perseverance are guiding lights.
"Together, they were a force."

Rich with forged brotherhood a new, an unconventionally beautiful, new relationship, and the glory of a leader coming into his own, told from Fanetti's signature, edgy style Lead is nothing short of extraordinary.
"Books were like time machines-they grabbed you by the throat and took you away from your life, and then they made that life speed by."

I really enjoyed this ending to the Brazen Bulls series (I am reading it out of order but it doesn’t really matter). The story was enjoyable and kept my attention. I really like this author’s writing style, she just occasionally goes too dark for me but it wasn’t an issue in this book.

***spoilers***

This story is basically a happy for now ending bc the author kills him off 12 years later. She's infamous for doing this and after the last dust up she promised to let folks know so they could make an informed decision about reading the book. She didn't with this one. Maybe she felt like it was a new series where he's killed off, so it was fair game.

I'm not rating bc I didn't read. I didn't read bc of this very circumstance. I make sure any subsequent books are vetted before I do. I read for happy forever endings. A book must be very, very, very well written and interesting for me to set aside this requirement. Honestly I don't read any of her books anymore, really. I have a couple favorites of hers that I re-read.

This isn't a judgement on those who like this type of happy for now ending, just letting folks know if it isn't your thing.

I wasn't sure what to think about Becker before this book. Not that I didn't like him, I just didn't feel like I knew him that well and I didn't have a strong opinion on him. I was a little worried about him becoming President in previous books. I thought this book was terrific. The vulnerability of this "tough guy" character in his doubts and insecurities about his ability to lead the club as President was refreshing. And seeing him come into his own and really shine as the leader was great. The love story was good too. Overall, I thought it was a terrific ending to the series, a great wrap-up of the stories and Susan Fanetti didn't even break our hearts with this one!!

Wow! Talk about a huge age gap ... which is really not my thing ... on top of that h was all about tiny waif meets goth chick while H was a huge badass biker ...
But they worked together ... he was her knight in shining armor and she was his damsel in distress (who was not really a damsel), he rescued her (even though she was on the way to rescue herself)
H was just so kind to this h, who badly needed to meet a kind man who would put her first
There were no elements of 'daddy' theme here; in fact H goes out of his way to tell her this ... but he really looks after her and is very affectionate ...
On the other hand, h was rather young but she had lived a hard life and there really was nothing little girly about her; she is also a smart cookie and seduces the H ...
To her the age gap doesn't matter at all ...
Overall, another good book from Susan Fanetti ...

A great final book from a great series. I tried not to read it too fast to pace myself but alas could not finished it in one day. Sage and Becker are lovely and the cast from other books are there too. Another beautiful job Susan.

Always sad when a series comes to end, but what a great end it was! This book was filled with so much emotion. Becker, the new Brazen Bulls club president, was learning how to be the prez when he meets Sage. Sage did not have a good childhood and endured a lot of suffering in her life. Through the journey of their relationship, we see how alike they are, despite their 20+ age difference. Becker and Sage’s relationship made perfect sense to me and I loved their story. The epilogue was perfection!

Jan 2020.... Re-read.... loved it just as much as the first time.

——————————————————

2019...Very sad this series has come to an end. I think the loved Lead the most out of all the books in this series. I loved Becker and Sage, what a story couldn’t put it down and read within 24 hours. Cannot wait to see if this author writes more MC books. Susan Fanetti is the best, thanking you for bringing us the Brazen Bulls, I also loved you took us back in time a little, was an original idea, you pulled it off wonderfully.

Great finale!

I am so sad that the Bulls MC saga is done but, really, it has to stop somewhere and this final story was great. The good news is that there are two new series about characters we've met along the way and I'm sure they will be just as good.

I really enjoyed and love this author's writing. The stories were fresh and the characters likable. Maverick will always be my favorite!

(2nd reading) I read this again to familiarize myself with the Brazen Bulls again and its been a while. My opionion hasn't changed about this story. If I could I would give it more than 5 stars. This story had everything in it....sadness, despair, love, laughter, terror, happiness, etc. I'd forgotten parts of it, ie. Lemmy the dog. I"m a huge animal lover and reading about his start in the world broke my heart and I agreed with Beck if he could dig up that waste of space Denny and do him all over again just for Lemmy it would be great. It is strange reading these stories now without Brian and Mo being the centre of them but time moves on.

(First reading) Loved this story....hated parts of it (abuse) but loved it nonetheless. Becker and Sage, what seemed at first an odd pair but quickly we find out that they are each other's soul mate. Age difference has never been an issue with me....who cares as long as the people involved are alright with it. Their are pockets of time throughout life that the difference in age does make a difference but, you work through it. I know this from personal experience. I loved everything about Sage...from her tattoos to her spunky self. Becker sounded good enough to eat from the descriptions and I loved his personality. I'm sorry to see the end of this series but I'm hoping for more about the kids.

Reading this again as a refresher for Redemption (Brazen Bulls Birthright, #1) by Susan Fanetti

So many beautiful moments!

I’m going to miss the Bulls. Ms Fanetti is one of my favourite MC authors and while I am sad to see the series end I loved Sage and Beck’s story. They were two people who didn’t let their past or inhibitions stop them from living the life they wanted.

First let me start by saying I am such a huge fan of Susan Fanetti's work, her prose is exquisite! I have been a huge fan of the entire series but admit I was puzzled why they MC elected Becker to be the next president after Delaney retired. I didn't dislike Becker but I didn't think he had leadership qualities either. Apparently, Becker wasn't sure of his leadership skills either, and I loved that the book let us see up close and in person how much Becker struggled with his leadership role in much of the book. It was realistic and gave us so many insights into who he was as a person.

I fell in love with Sage from the moment she appeared on the page; she marched to the beat of her own drum and has such a free spirit. I also loved that as always, the author did such impeccable research into the mental health issues; I was so pissed with Sage's mom and I could see that their familial "train wreck" was gonna happen a mile away, and yet.... like Sage, I kept hoping she would pull it together.

I loved Becker's and Sage's relationship and I really got why they fell in love, in spite of their age difference. Sage in many ways had to grow up fast so she was wise beyond her years and had a good heart. Occasionally Becker's sexism got on my nerves but I knew it came from his love and desire to protect her, it was part of the result of his baggage from his childhood and it was part of the MC world.

I basically wept thru the entire epilogue. I loved the ending, particularly the part where Becker figures out his role in the MC world and in his family. I was weepy bc I'm really gonna miss the Bulls; I'm already trying to figure out which ones I will reread!

I LOVE this author's work, she really can't write a "bad" book and I can't wait to read her next book, which I think will be from the Pagano Brother's series.

Becker was thrown into the position of the Prez when Delaney stepped down. He is feeling the pressure in filling the shoes of the past.
Sage has a rough homelife. A mother who needs a man to go on even if all he does is drug her up and beat the shit out of her.
Becker comes to the rescue when Denny her mom's latest is beating on her. From that moment on Sage attaches herself to him and doesn't let go. Becker isn't sure what to make of Sage. For one she is 24 years younger than he is, but he is fighting the attraction he is feeling.
I loved Becker as the Prez and can't say that I ever liked Delaney. He thought of himself before the club. Made choices that didn't benefit the club.
I did want to smack Sage up side the head. She had the perfect weapon to use against Denny when he stole all of her money and she never used it. Becker would have gotten it back and made him pay. He did get his in the end.
Even though he was a major ass I would have liked for Eight Ball to get a story. I would have liked to see him become a human being, especially after spending all that time in prison.

I love all things Susan Fanetti! This book was another good one. I also like older man, younger woman romances, which this has, also. Beck is 44 years old and the president of the Brazen Bulls Motorcycle Club. Sage is only 20 years old, but her hard life has aged her beyond her years. I found that gap a bit hard to believe, but Ms. Fanetti’s writing made up for it. Beck and Sage are neighbors whose romance blooms through a series of shared experiences and sadness until they get their HEA. They have so very hot times and also some sweetness as Beck tries to protect Sage from all the ugliness he can. I especially liked the scene where he helped her clean up her mom’s house after a tragedy. His tenderness and care for her, while still being a big, bad biker, was heartwarming. Their dog, Lemmy, was also a nice addition to the story. I love dogs! This book wraps up the Brazen Bulls series, and I hate to see it end. If you haven’t read the previous seven books, they are great also.

A Time of Change

After the first, and only, president of the Brazen Bulls retired, Becker was voted into the position by the rest of the club. He’s unsure of his ability to lead and in which direction to take the club. The club has been working with/for the Russian Volkov bratva. They have seen times of prosperity and times of great personal danger and loss.

Sage is a young woman who has lived her life walking on eggshells with her mom & her mom’s constant rotation of abusive boyfriends. The safest she’s ever felt is with the older Brazen Bull. She’s up to the challenge of learning to live the outlaw lifestyle as long as that means she can have Becker.

This was an excellent ending to the Brazen Bulls series. I will miss all these characters. I wouldn’t mind a spin-off, as I am still curious about Eight Ball and his history and if he will ever change or just stay the a**hole course. There is an upcoming prequel about Delaney and Mo.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed this book. It had just enough history intermingled with just enough action to keep the story interesting. I had my reservations about Beck as president and as hero, mainly because the series had very little of him to draw from. But after reading story, I see that was necessary because of who he is. I had a harder time warming up to Sage as heroine, since she was so different from usual m.o. of these stories. Ms. Fanetti did a wonderful job of growing reader link to subjects as she advanced their stories. And the HEA at conclusion tops the cake.
Hopefully author will one day revisit the next generation that she has so wonderfully introduced reader to.

I enjoyed this book, not my favourite of Fanetti’s books but it wrapped up the series nicely.

I’m not a huge fan of the gigantic age gap but due seemed to make it work well but she spent a lot of time justifying their reasoning for it being ok. However I expected the club to kick up a stink but nope, acceptance straight off the bat 🤷‍♀️.

I also expected a bit more club business in this book wrapping everything up but this book was more about Sage & Becker’s lives and their relationship than the club life.

In the end it’s the end of a great series, leaves everyone we love in the club happy & whole.

Sorry, I just can’t. Becker has a lot of potential but this story is ridiculous. He is 44, gorgeous, President of the club, and part owner of the business. She is only 20, tatted everywhere including her face, pierced, tiny, and won’t take no for an answer. She comes across more as a precocious little girl with major daddy issues. There is no believable chemistry between these two. In fact, a realistic scenario would be Becker tuning up her car and bring her support system but not getting involved.

Could not stop reading --that great!

This is probably my very favorite in the series. From the beginning Sage pulled me in making me just want something good for her. Fortunately, she gets her happiness and finds a real family. I highly recommend this book for those who want to follow a man and his woman falling in love and surviving all the obstacles in their way.

Here's to the end

To a phenomenal series. Becker questions his ability to lead the Bulls. At the same time he helps save Sage from an abusive family. Written in that smooth compelling Candy to style we've become accosted to this is another easily devoured book. I'm sad to see the end of the series but hoping to get glimpses of the Bulls in the future.
