Hemlock Chronicles #4

Witch's Secret

Rate this book
Exiled from the necromancer guild and at the top of the Mage Lords' most wanted list. Not exactly where I'd hoped saving the city would land me, especially since I'm also the sole heir to the Hemlock coven and the last line of defence between our world and a bunch of angry gods.

Not only is my spirit still bound to my ancestor, Evelyn Hemlock, she's beginning to develop an alarming taste for freedom. And then there's Keir, my vampire boyfriend, whose connection to me might be the death of both of us. With the mages hell-bent on taking everyone who might challenge them out of the picture, the stakes have never been higher.

The only way to win back my freedom is to bring down the most powerful man in the city. Let's just say the odds -- and the gods -- aren't on my side…

Emma Adams' books never disappoints

Ms. Adams ' style of writing never disappoints me. Action packed, different storylines yet interconnected. You might say, from a different perspective. This book continues from the mention of the Hemlock witches in the first series called The Changling Chronicles, next The Gatekeepers Curse, now The Hemlock Chronicles. I really like continuity of characters as Emma Adam's brings to the forefront a new development in the fight to keep more Ancients from overtaking their country. As the storylines build the concept that not all Ancients are evil or out to destroy. You also meet the possibility of new characters in the next series. I would say that teenagers could read this series. With the caveat of parents reading the series first. You may not approve some of the characters being obliquely suggested as homosexual. Your choice, your decision concerning readability for your teenagers. Action packed, not always the same type of fighting abilities, characters from previous storylines joining the fray. Loved it personally, would have loved it more if kept the hints of sexuality out of the storylines. Didn't really need to be there, don't stray from the action. This is great with just hints of love. I read for the escapes from reality, good vs Evil, new characters that have strong personalities.

Taking down the head Mage..

.. is the only way forward for Jas. Lord Sutherland has been scheming beyond anything they could have possibly guessed however. With a ghostly vampire army ready to cause chaos and the means to dispose of them once they have done his dirty work it's not looking good.

With access to the old Orion League stronghold and having spent years accumulating ancient books and artifacts under the guise of preventing them from falling into the wrong hands he's also accumulated knowledge of dangerous rituals.

Warped with a desire to wipe out all other magicals and wanting to tear down the guilds so he can rule alone he fails to realise that he wants what he despises in the Ancients themselves.. the power of life and death.. and immortality itself.

Jas is back and with Lady Montgomery ready to accept her, shade or no shade, they are engaging in a full on war determined to stop the megalomaniac in his tracks but will they be able to save those he's trapped, abused and neglected? And will Evelyn prove herself friend or foe?

Fighting against all dangers on several fronts at once is difficult when you are fugitive and the most wanted person by all parties involved.
Jas was forced into hiding after Evelyn revealed their shade identity, and now feels powerless and useless. Fight does not leave her, though, and with the help of her friends she gets onto the path to discover more and more secrets - while trying to preserve as much of the city as possible under the magical assaults.
With each book added to the series, the level of intensity increases exponentially. Magical world built to detailed perfection awes me with its complexity and potential, and each series set up in this world even despite the differences in timing brings up new possibilities, new inventions, new situations.
Jas is one hell of a heroine, tough to kill and extremely lucky to have the allies she have, and now I wish her good luck in taming her wild and raging ancestor.

I have loved this world since I read the Changling series. I love the worlds that this author has created. Jas's world is a well put together world with everything that one could create and more. In this book we find that Jas has a real tough road ahead. The saying that No Good Deed Goes Unpunished is the way some things work out for her. The ending leaves me waiting for the next book. Jas has a good soul which makes her truly loveable for me. I highly recommend this for fantasy lovers. I received an ARC form the author and I am leaving this TOTALLY HONEST review because I choose to. Loved it! Happy Reading

Great Series

A great series with a great cast of characters. And urban fantasy series that started with one series and a main character then took a peripheral character into the new series and made that character a main character while still having some of the other characters appear on occasion and each new series as another personal character as the main character and they continue the adventure. All in the same magical World. One long continuing epic story.

There is plenty going on in this book, Jas is trying to come out of hiding while bring down Lord Sutherland, work out how to keep the ancients at bay and work out how to deal with her hanger on Evelyn. There are twists and surprises that keep you hooked as well as lives found and lost that has me wanting the next book now as I think things are about to get bad, very bad for everyone.

Another great adventure. I have enjoyed Jas’s story. All of the characters in this world have become like close personal friends. I look forward to Witch’s Sacrifice and the next series for Hazel’s story.

Excellent Book

This series is very interesting. The heroine, Jas Hemlock is feisty and smart. Her friends and boyfriend are always ready to help her protect the earth. You'll love this book.

More of the same

I wanted to like this... I really did. But I’m sensing a formula here. I hope this doesn’t go the way of Ivy’s series where it was just pointless and then we end up with 7 books that could’ve easily been 4 max.
I am curious about Evelyn’s end game though.

Great read

This is a good series. Good plot. I am getting a little bored with faeries, and the ancients though. I keep reading because I love the fantastic characters.
