I started this because I've been reading a lot of Sirius Black/Remus Lupin fanfiction this year and I specifically wanted to read an interpretation of them as trans. This story was truly a lovely and enjoyable read - I didn't want to put it down, especially in the beginning. I also appreciated that both Sirius and Remus (and in fact all the characters) actually have a strong sense of how they identify at the beginning of the book. Because it starts when they're 19, both are out adults, and that means that this isn't a story about questioning or transitioning, but about living and loving as young adults who aren't cisgender. Their gender identities affect their lives in a variety of ways, yet the main conflicts and challenges in the story lie elsewhere, from the mundane (long-distance relationships) to the magical (figuring out how to tell your new partner that you can do magic). By the way, my favorite aspect of this AU is that because they meet over text, neither knows the other can do magic, and so they go to great lengths to disguise things like "oh Merlin" and "my friend plays Quidditch." The writers do a great job of playing with that if you read closely. Back to my original purpose for reading, I don't thing I've ever read a book with a genderfluid main character, so I learned a lot. The characters are wonderful. And, another wonderful part is that all of the main relationships and friendships are SO SUPPORTIVE. There are so many fantastic models of being a good friend and asking for what you need that I've learned from that aspect as well. The one downside of this work for me is that the texting conversations did get repetitive by the later chapters, so I either had to read less at a time or skim over some of those parts. That being said, it's also very accurate to what texting was often like in my own long-term, long-distance relationship! Even though this is a Work In Progress and updated infrequently (most recently about 4 months ago, as of this review's posting), its most recent chapters are satisfying enough that you shouldn't avoid it just for that reason. All in all, definitely recommended.

I rate this 4 stars I enjoyed the story overall as well as all of the characters I liked their dynamics as they were as well as how they grew I will say some bits felt a little longer or similar to other moments but not to much to where I didn’t enjoy the whole story it took me a bit longer to get through than i would have hoped cause of this slump I’ve been in for a bit hopefully it gets better soon I will say I do t think this was completely finished and so that’s a little disappointing but maybe it’ll eventually happen but it’s been a few years so I’m unsure but this was a work in progress for years so it might be possible but not going to get my hopes up to much there were a few things I would like some possible answers for but overall the ended didn’t leave to much unanswered

tbh… i’m probably gonna DNF this. it’s just TOO slow burn. there’s no reason to draw it out this much imo? but i really love moony and siri, so i’ll probably go back to it eventually. i read too much of this to not add it so 😭
