Every so often, an event happens that yanks the reigns of the ever-churning machinery of time and stops the world in its tracks. The repercussions of such an event may send shock waves that can be felt in every nook and corner of our sphere.
These events and happenings will vary in the actual magnitude, but their lasting effect can be immeasurable in the manner they influence humanity till posterity. One such event for instance, was the Holocaust.
During the course of which a staggering 11 million unarmed and helpless men, women and children were slaughtered mercilessly by the Nazis and their collaborators. And the most shocking and brutal fact was that this number included more than 6 million Jews.
Suffice to say that the actions of the Nazis almost pushed the Jewish race to certain obliteration. The fundamental logic behind this inhuman eruption of atrocities was the unfounded and groundless notion of Aryan Supremacy. The Nazis believed that the Aryan race was the purest and the most superior race in the world.
This book is a compilation of the heroic and poignant stories of such individuals, based on the true accounts of survivors of the Holocaust, whose courage, valor and compassion truly transcended the boundaries imposed by the tyranny of men. I thank you for purchasing this book and hope that it helps you appreciate to the fullest extent, one of the most significant pages of human history.

The only thing that made this book interesting is the fact it covers a topic very few people today know or talk about. The editing is horrible. The title is misleading - so very little is said about the actual rescue of anyone from Auschwitz or any concentration camp. More of each short bio is spent focused on the person's life before and after their work during the war. And finally, do not rely on this book to give you well-researched historical facts. Some of the "facts" are wrong and many others seem to be nothing more than author's opinions.
This was a very ordinary book. It had a small number of anecdotes relating to heroes, some only vaguely associated with Auschwitz. It was written in a strange way that made me wonder if the author had English as a second language. The author also played fast and loose with facts. Some were debatable and some were plain wrong. The last irritation was that the second half of the book was devoted to pre-views of two other books. One on U-boats!
Wonderfully written accounts of men and women that played important roles in rescuing and supporting the Jews in escaping to freedom or surviving until rescue was possible. The unsung hero's of a time the world just could not imagine happening. Not even Nazi's would be that inhumane. Realization come to slow for millions of men, women and children. Definitely worth the time to read.
I really did not read much about this growing up but lately I am. This book made me cry from hearing the true horrors of what happened. Really a great read for anyone.
Book was okay but not very well written. Many of the stories sounded repeated with a few changes. Stories almost sound like just book report summaries. Disappointing.
2 stars because this short little book included a chapter on a man that I now want to learn more about.
So, at first, I was thinking this book was just horribly written! But then I realized that it feels like an essay written by a middle (maybe even a high) schooler. At many points, the sentences feel like they've been reworded in order to avoid plagiarism. Random "big" words are awkwardly placed and they don't always make complete sense in the context that they're used. It also feels like there was a minimum word count that needed to be met. In places, the author used 2nd person POV to explain to us what he'd be writing about. There was once that he explained something "for those who don't know much about it." Also, there were several statements that deemed certain things obvious that were not all that obvious.
This is the second book I've read by this author. The first one was worse than this one. (I don't know why I gave this a try despite the headache the first one gave me) But I'm glad I did because now I want to read more about Witold Pilecki.
