High school sweethearts, Ridge left Leigha shortly after graduation to follow his dreams of a career in the music business. Finding his success, but missing home, he is back 12 years later trying to earn a second chance with Leigha. Ridge isn’t some 18 year old teenager anymore, a lot has changed. Can Leigha open up and trust her heart to the man who broke it all those years ago?
The reigning female in a house full of males, I live with my husband, sons and 100lb dog Duncan. Growing up I moved around quite often, so books became my best friends. I crawled into my imaginary world, and I never really left. Forever bookworm, caffeine addict, lover of cuss words, and hoarder of makeup.
I loved this book. It’s a wonderful story, well told, with a couple of good surprises while avoiding some of the standard tropes. The characters are well developed, even the side characters, and you care about all of them. The story would stand on its own without the steamy sex scenes, but oh my Lord does Roman know how to write a sex scene. Never repetitive, always steamy, always pushing the envelope. I even got misty in a few places. I can’t recommend this book enough..
This is my second read for Still Yours by Cara Roman and I can say my opinion changed since I read over four years ago. Originally giving it 5 STARS, I've changed it to 3-3.5 and here's why...
The amount of unnecessary and repetitive details wasted so many words. For instance, we don't need to have six pages telling the reader about the MFC getting ready or cooking (I'm not exaggerating). How many times do we have to read about the MMC's "lopsided grin" or how she counted down the register and walked to the bank everyday to make a deposit?
It's unrealistic that after 12 years apart Leigha isn't going to ask Ridge why. Seriously, he freaking ghosted her and she's doesn't, at minimum, ask any questions? He was due for an ass chewing from HER not her BFF. Hey, listen, I get it. The one true love of your life suddenly returns to town and your heart (and other body parts) do flips, but let's wait before jumping his bones...which leads me to the next part.
Perhaps I've become less needy in the gratuitous sex department for books (trust me, I love smut), but for some reason it was OTT for me. I'm estimating the story was at least 30-40% sex and it was repetitive. It was well written, just overused.
So, if you take out all the useless descriptions and 75% of the sex, we're left with a pretty decent story (except for the above mentioned ass chewing). The last 20% of the book was by far the best. The anxiety Leigha felt at the awards show was well written and so much was explained. I understand the need to have a bigger ending, but that only works when the rest of the book has substance.
Still, it's a good book if you like hometown, second chance with first love (after more than a decade) romances. I'm not unhappy I re-read it.
Not for me. In the time of separation he marries another woman after basically getting caught up with fame and dropping the heroine. He stopped contacting her when it wasn't going so well then when he got his big break didn't contact her in case she'd moved on. He broke her heart.
