The burdens of being a woman are plentiful. There are so many people to care for, so many things to check off on the to-do list. It’s easy for us to bring that mentality to it’s one more thing to do, one more person to labor for. But God wants us to find joy and intimacy with Him in our prayer time. Blessed Is She highlights the blessing of intercessory prayer through the testimonies of more than thirty African American women. You will see that despite the heaviness and struggles of life, there is an easiness when we give it all to God. Be transformed and learn the power and freedom of prayer and intercession as you read the Scripture, stories, and practical applications of women just like you. And when it comes to life, it’s not burdened is she, it’s blessed is she!
Blessed is She may be my new favorite devotional. Victoria McAfee has complied book that is brilliant, wise, authentic and practical .
The book is full of encouragement. The stories will empower you, strengthen you, and inspire you. The women here have different stories but each one points us back to the God who hears us. You will not be disappointed by this powerful book, jam packed with truth . I learned So much from the raw, authentic stories shared here.

This book is a journey though the prayer lives of 30 African American women. The book chronicles these women’s experience with prayer. The book contains valuable insights including the forewords written by 2 phenomenal Christian authors, Dr. Suzan Johnson Cook and Patricia Raybon. The book is divided into sections entitled: Blessed with a Divine Prayer Team, Blessed in our Struggles, Blessed to Join Intercession, Blessed after Amen. Each section contains narratives from women across the United States who share prayer experiences along with scriptural references for the reader.
While reading the book, I had to put it down to meditate on various passages. The author encourages the reader to explore the book at your own pace. That is great advice, it is a book that should be read and studied slowly in order to absorb all of the goodness contained within the pages. I can easily see this book being used for Women’s Ministry groups, Sunday School classes or Intercessory teams.
I was given the opportunity to review an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley.
Blessed is She is full of women recounting their experiences with God. The times when they were called to listen to God and reflect then do. The experiences aren't the same and may not be "overt". These stories are to remind us to just be quiet with God and let a feeling, thoughts, or even other people send us a message. The point is our receptiveness. We can be anxious or stressed but over time we can develop a prayer practice. The book can be used as a guide reminding us to listen and reflect on what God might be telling us.
Blessed Is She by Victoria McAfee is a wonderfully spiritual novel that is both instructional and inspiring. The book is honest and open regarding faith and how to maintain a strong relationship with the Lord. There are many cases of block women who have had their faith tested or enriched by life episodes. This book is very easy to read a few pages at a time. I will be putting Blessed Is She with my other religious books. I’m sure that it is one that I will read many times!
No matter where you are in life you're bound to find a connection with one or several of the 30 women who were generous enough to share their stories and the impact of prayer in their lives. Very few book insight laughter, anger and tears as this one does. Overall I was inspired by their tenacity and even more proud to be a woman of color.
Beautiful prayer book that presented different situations where prayer become essential in the lives of different African American women. It bought me a lot of insight and until recently my prayer life sucked. However, I am a firm believer that prayer changes things so My prayer life was taken a tick up. 😀
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Such a beautiful compilation of stories and journeys and prayers from women! I really enjoyed reading this. It gave me hope and strengthened me during a season that doesn't feel hopeful (still in the middle of a pandemic!).
In this amazing book compiled by Ms. Victoria, 30 women of color talk about some of the trials they've experienced being women of color, mother's, and sometimes wives. This was such an inspirational book and well written book.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own
