Alpha wolf shifter, Chief, has just suffered a surprising loss at the shifter pack battles, which sucks because the prize was a mate. Any hope of a she-wolf taming Chief’s out-of-control inner wolf is gone. Worse, the cost of his loss is a year stint at the Skin Walker compound, StoneCrow Estates. Being in Monroe StoneCrow’s employee isn’t someplace any wolf shifter wants to be.
Alessandra (Alise) Crane is at StoneCrow to attend the wedding of her best friend. All through the reception, she feels eyes on her. A tatted up beast in the shadows has been watching her, but she’s too busy playing bride’s maid to pay much attention. When she finally locks eyes with the beast, something happens. Alise suffers some sort of attack, and the only thing that eases the agony tearing through her is the touch of the man who’s been stalking her.
Chief and Alise have been stricken!
Finding a mate had been Chief’s goal but Alise is a lowly human, not what we wanted. Can he overcome his prejudice? Or will his stubborn pride chase off the one woman who could give both he and his wolf the peace they’ve been seeking?
*This book is part of the Skin Walkers series. Since each book in this series focuses on a different couple, they can be read as stand-alones.

Three shots of whiskey and two beers deep, Chief set up camp at one of the stone picnic tables just outside of the patio area. Distanced from the lit-up pergola and candle strew tables, he sat in darkness—now that the sun had fully set. The darkness suited him just fine. It made it easier to watch her!
The woman was a beautiful little thing. She was wearing a pretty green dress and had her long, dark hair pulled back into a ponytail that showed of the graceful arc off her neck. Her lips were bright red and kept drawing Chief’s attention, almost as much as the one shoulder that was exposed by her dress. There was a tattoo on it of a large blackbird whose wing swept down just beneath her collarbone and across what he could see of her chest.
Elbows on his knees, he leaned a little closer to study her more intently and almost fell off where he was seated with his ass on the table and his booted feet on the bench seat.
“Goddamn it,” he snarled quietly and righted himself before his eyes found the woman again. He couldn’t stop staring at her, and he knew she could feel his eyes on her because she kept looking around trying to find the source of her discomfort. That was revealing too because her eyes kept tracking back to James. He knew the Skin Walker Sentry from previous meetings. The guy was okay, a jokester, which Chief never understood, but still okay. Still, his familiarity with the Sentry didn’t stop Chief from shooting James a dark look. It didn’t last long though because his wolf dragged his attention back to her. Watching her wasn’t enough though. Both beast and man wanted a closer look, so Chief shoved up off the table and made his way to one of the empty tables near the bar.
Taking a seat, he kicked one leg out in front of him in a relaxed pose that belied the tumultuous emotions roiling inside him.
“Chieftain.” James greeted. Turning to face Chief with a cold beer in his hand he asked, “What’s up, man?”
The greeting was irksome. Chief didn’t even bother tearing his eyes from the woman as he asked, “The woman in green, who is she?”
“Green?” James asked. “Would we call that green? Seems more like turquoise or no, wait! Amanda calls it teal. It’s her favorite color.
My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.
I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)
Please leave feedback….well, only if it’s positive. “Keep in mind that I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit! (Erykah Badu lyrics!)

Books like this are why I fell in love with the Skin Walkers!
Ms Bliler has done it again! Given us a hot alpha male to fall in love with, a wounded mate to rally behind and a glimpse into what is on the horizon for the Skin Walkers. I absolutely love Chief! He may put out all of those stay away vibes, but they are just hiding a soul overcome with hurt and disappointment. Only his mate can heal him, but poor Alise has her work cut out for her. Will they find their HEA? Grab the book and find out for yourself! I, myself, will be anxiously awaiting the next installment while I continue to re-read my favorites.
Ok, so I thought it was just good, not very good until I got about half way through the book. Then the obvious was no longer a correct assumption. Things start to happen. Revelations occur. Twists in the storyline make the plot much more interesting. By the end of the book, the book became a very good book.
This book was great. The first time I read it via Unlimited so I actually purchased the book to complete the set. In case, I need to go for a third reading when the next book comes out. I enjoyed it as much as the first time, but the big picture is progressing so slowly it is frustrating for a reader. I have been reading this series since 2013 and 18 books later, still so many unanswered questions. And now we have another dooms days scenario, that may or may not include the Megalya, but does include some otherly being.
It is not the writing or this authors imagination that is not getting the 5 star ratings from me, it is frankly the time span and numerous unanswered questions within this world. The fact that Jenny and Monroe are still injecting "affliction deterrents" to all skin walkers this far, in is a little concerning. Especially when it does harm in different ways. It wasn't mentioned after a few books, so i thought it had stopped being done after Redknife's book. Would love just a little nugget of resolution. Glad that Chief found his HEA with Alise and they both found their worth. Here's looking for the next book. Well worth your time and $$
Hum... the book is just so...humph... It’s all « oh but you don’t really want me » (she says), with Great Misunderstandings because they actually don’t talk to one another, and when they finally talk and you start thinking the book is going to be good, It Abruptly Ends. You heard me, the story just stops and you learn in an epilogue that he moved to the city. This book was a filler book or it was an outline that someone mistakenly published, maybe? What a missed opportunity, it would have been so good to see them adapt to living together in the city!
We are in the 19th books and things are changing at StoneCrow. I didn’t love the constant push from the couple. Seemed to take so long to get to it that there was nothing of after the claiming. This book takes place before James’. I will need to go back and reread that one to move forward on the next book though. Wish they had been released in reverse.
Oh and there is a horrible typo during an intense scene at the end. The wrong heroine’s name is used! Horrible proofread oversite. If it wasn’t the end, I might have DNF.
I’ve been reading all these books in the series and you really don’t have to read all of them but it does keep you up-to-date what’s been happening in their world. This book starts up where the last ended. The story of two people who are “stricken” which is a shifter way of identifying their mates. Chief and Alise fight the attraction, and earlier trauma in their lives. Great book with drama, laughter. Shows us that we need to be careful with words cause once said in anger hurts. Looking forward to the next book
Love the book !! Chief is a wolf shifter . Alise is at a wedding of a friend when she is stricken . There is several storylines in this story . There's Chief and Alise , Monroe and Eden , Monroe and Jenny , Dell, Choe , Red knife. The plot thickens with book in the series. As usual Ms. Bliler written a story to hold you to it . I can't wait for more from her .
I was so excited to read Chief's story to get his background was awesome. Its always good to get the facts about what makes the man. I can't wait to see who 's next . Mrs Bliler is one great story teller, please keep writing about these characters. I never want this series to end we still have so many skin walkers and wolves to learn about.
The book is part of a series that I have become addicted to. Love the intrigue, the inner play with the characters, love the surprises. The book is so well written. I hope there will .
Be more books coming. I need this fix like an addict. I am a fan of this author. I can't get enough of her books.
Susan does it again with her Alpha hotness Chief. It was a sweet story that kept me interested and loving the intertwined series. The mystery at the end keeps me wanting more.
A book worth waiting for, enjoyed it as I do all skinwalker books by Susan. If you haven't read the series, so worth the time. They are even better the second read thru. Thanks
Chief is a line wolf shifter and Stone crew. And finds his mate but he questions the mating falling into Monroe's plans. In this next book In this series. What will happen next ? I guess we wait and see .
If you love larger than life alphas then this is the book for you!!! Fall in lust screw it up fix it screw it up again until finally you do it the right way!!!!! Who don’t love a beast ????? I know I love the beast after this book.
What the neck is going on? Eden is taking over. Chief is holding out. Alise is confused and upset. We get to meet Mama again. Who is Sha??? What can she do? I can't wait to find what is going on.
I almost hated the alpha skin walker. I'm glad Chief finally got his head out of ass and claimed his mate. He should have known the stricken was real when he couldn't take his eyes off Alise.
Interesting, intriguing, and romantic - a perfect combination for a great read. Just enough lead in at the final chapter to make me want the next one in this series. Good job.
Ok you really need to not make us wait long for the next book. I’m so excited. This was wonderful and sad all at the sane time. Damn you’re awesome!!!!!
Chiefs story was everything you hoped for and more. Although Monroe you just want to slap for trying to run everyone's life. It is a great book to read.
I like how both the H and h had to learn to work things out. Their start was not the romantic type but they worked it out. Can’t wait for the next one!
