Dr. Laila Porter is ready to jump into her relationship with her men. They butted into her life, made their intentions known, and she’s more than willing to take them up on it. As they find a balance in their budding relationship, emotions run high, and Laila questions if it’ll last. Instead of facing these unfamiliar emotions, she throws herself into her current project, a toy with both wonderful and dangerous possibilities.
While the guys prove that they are all in, a new dangerous plot slowly circles Biomystic Security, and this time, they aren’t so sure it’s something they will be able to get out of. Especially if this new danger threatens who they’re fighting for: Laila Porter.
This one started off a bit mundane. But it was still good.
Despite what happened Laila is still in her mission to help the humans within Biomystic security by making a device that can leech or siphon magic from someone. In between this the men realize that they’ve neglected her and work to rectify this, which isn’t too bad. It’s nice to see the relationships forming.
But what happened is still unclear. Someone found out about her device, but Laila only told a few people. This is a catalyst for the events that happen in this book.
Despite it being written in a telling format, I felt the emotions ring through this time. I felt Laila’s loneliness from the guys ignoring her, or being busy. I felt her emotions when she was happy and I very very much felt her emotions in the last section of the book.
Boy is this one a doozy.
Buckle up bc it’s not a smooth ride at Biomystic this time.
This was really great but I think the author needs to be careful on how resilient Laila is to injury. She gets pretty beaten up in this book and we have several "I can't go on" / "I'm going to faint" / "The pain is too much" moments, but then she suddenly takes a potion and everything is better? Hmmmm . . .
Not that I want Laila hurt, but it started to become a boy who cried wolf scenario.
Also, the author needs to review her timeline a little bit. In book 1, we were told Laila has been working at Biomystic for 5-6 months. As the story progressed, I thought we were moving on in the timeline. But then in Book 3, its mentioned that she knew Henzie (I believe it was? maybe someone else?) for "years". Yet she's still 19 in all 3 books?
BUT!! This does not diminish my love for this series AT ALL! I LOVE Laila as a character and cannot wait to see what she's going to do next. Book 4 cannot come out soon enough.
This book is just as good as the rest of the series! Without a doubt this series is in my top five favorite. This book really has you on the edge of your seat and all in your feelings. I cannot wait till the next book comes out. I highly recommend this book for people who want a good read!
I love Laila’s journey. This book was a difficult one for her. But her relationships blossom and progress with communication and hard work. The plot is good, though they suffer loss. Definite read again.. for a third time lol
I read this entire 5-volume series during the pandemic/quarantine of 2020 (still going on, at this review's writing, May, 2020) Since I don't read a lot these days, and almost never finish a book, much a series, I wish I could say my perseverance was due to great writing, characters or plot.... But, no. Mostly, curiosity and boredom.
Since this is the final book of this author's first series, and she is young, I will be gentle. BUT, there are numerous editing/proofreading/formatting problems with this and every volume in this series. Plus, it's not actually a "series," by my definition. The entire series, with the exception of the final Epilogue, takes place within one calendar year. That makes it a stand-alone novel, IMO, and it should have been published that way.
She also added a Volume 2.5, which I did read, and that was even shorter than the others and just as mediocre. Sheesh.
But, since it is a 'series," my review of Volume I is: good start, mediocre set-up and not-credible back-stories. Two-dimensional characters almost uniformly, except for the one-D characters and the MC.
Dr. Laila Porter (see other reviews for summaries; I don't bother, here) has more depth than any other characters, and I did find her interesting. However, there are so many holes in the world-building here that I can't even get started. I suspended my disbelief and just went along for the ride.
Then, there is the whole polyamory/"reverse harem" aspect, with which I am not the least bit familiar as a writing genre. Is it? The online definition of this term fits this use: "A 'reverse harem' includes three or more characters who potentially show romantic interest in a female protagonist....A genre in manga and anime." BUT, that is NOT what a females-comprised "harem" is, so why the use of that term? And, this is not "manga" or "anime," so, I'm baffled.
I do like some Urban Fantasy and some Paranormal genre books, and this is both, IMO, with a lot of Romance/sex thrown in (somewhat gratuitously, it seems to me, and characters are having sexual fantasies/thoughts and conversations way too often (e.g., in the middle of a battle, injury recovery, kidnapping, etc.). There were many things I did like about this book, and it was free, so I bought the other ebooks and continued (since each Volume read like about 4 -8 chapters of a regular novel).
She added an additional "volume," 2.5, from the POVs/backstories for each of the male "harem" characters. Not very well-done at all. Later Volumes in this 'series" are interesting, but even more mediocre
If you're bored, if you like graphic interspecies but heterosexual and mostly vanilla sex, if you like descriptions of "magic," "power," shapeshifters, vampires, and witches, etc.,and a strong, smart, but impulsive and adolescent (actually ad behaviorally/emotionally) cis-gender female MC you'll like this just fine.
(See first volume's review for "shelves" categories I chose.)
The Biomystic Security series is a finished series, and because I really enjoyed it I decided to read the entire series before writing my reviews (without spoilers, no worries). This is a single POV series, with an exception for book 2.5 that is written from the men's perspective. The relationships know a slow burn.
Dr. Laila Porter is a magical genius, but also a young woman with a difficult past and plenty of trust issues. I liked to read about her personal growth throughout this series and see her men help her to find ways to heal. This is a mixed harem, both in species as in personalities, and all these men add something important to their relationships. I enjoyed the action that is the most important part of every book; it is always fun to read about the bad guys eating dust.
Laila is still a young woman, and you can't escape that fact while reading. Personally I liked it because it felt closer to reality, but I know a young fmc isn't for everyone. But if you like plenty of action, a little bit of laughter, and a young woman growing up and finding her own place, than I highly suggest reading this series.
Not as much action but we get to know about the men
This book wasn’t as action packed as the previous two for the majority of the book but the last third had plenty. The reason the action was delayed was because the first part of the book was focused more on Laila’s relationships with her men. We learn more about each of the guys and why they have feelings for Laila and something about their history. We also start to see how the relationship between them all can work out. There are dates and Laila has to start confronting her own insecurities and beliefs about herself.
The action part of the story is when the company building is invaded, in a search for secret technology. There is desperation and sadness in this story, it’s not all puppy dogs and rainbows. It’d good that there will be another book along soon.
Intense!!! Holy crap this is an intense read!!! All the feels!!! This book is the most trying for Laila of all the books so far. She is finally working to establish the romantic connections with her guys and facing a challenge on the magical front unlike anything she’s encountered before.
This is the first time we see her in a situation where she fails even as she succeeds. It’s heartbreaking and inspiring. I love how much she’s grown as a character. I also like what we get more of a glimpse into the backstories of her men. I’m starting to see how each guy is bringing something to the table that she desperately needs. They aren’t just man candy and it isn’t all about the sexy times, which is an added bonus for me. Not that I don’t enjoy a good book boyfriend that’s man candy mind you. 😂
I am eager to see what else is in store for Laila and her guys.
Magical Seclusion is book three in the Biomystic Security (BMS) series, and they must be read in order. In book three the structure of the previous books is changed slightly, as instead of having a central case that takes over a majority of the book as the previous ones did, this one ups the romantic relationship development - giving it just as much attention as the goings-on at BMS, if not more. I thought I'd be disappointed by this, as my favorite things about the previous books were the security things they worked, but happily this was not the case and I enjoyed this book just as much as the others, especially the progress made in the romance department. I am very much looking forward to more in the series. 3.5 Stars
This is RH. The first book had no RH aspects at all. The 2nd book introduces the idea. The first half of this book spent a lot of time in the relationship area with each of her dates. While the second half housed an interesting action storyline. I did not really find any cohesion between the two. I started this series bc I thought the storyline of a scientist developing magical tools sounded unique. I will finish the series, but this book seemed disjointed. Instead of being blended the story completely focused on solely moving the RH aspect forward and then an unexpected plot twist without any back story associated. I'm not a huge fan of RH, but liked the storyline in this series. This book just never came together for me.
I struggled to read this one. I’m not sure if it was because there was a lot less action compared to the other two books, or because the relationship between characters became stagnant. There was still forward progress and when the action came it was really well written. A plan forms for the relationships of all the characters but progress is slow- almost too slow. I think it was written this way on purpose- to show us, and force us to feel, what the main character is going through- the struggles she is facing internally. Still a well written book with an intriguing story line. There was a few tears shed and I can’t wait to see where this story is going.
I think this author has a lot of potential but unfortunately I can’t finish this series. We get more information on the science/magic happenings (like in depth descriptions of her making things) than we do with the relationships and building up the world and characters. The action parts are intense and interesting but they end up taking up most of the book. We’re left with plot holes in relation to the growth of the characters. An example is when one of the guys gets upset over finding out the FMC has private files on everyone. That never gets addressed and instead we are thrust into an action packed take over.
This series really had potential but not enough for me to want to continue.
I could not put this series down but I was not fully satisfied with it. The romance was just too lackluster for me. I understand the author described it as a slow burn RH but this is slower than slow. Then when something does occur it just did not match up with two books of buildup to it. I am definitely disappointed with that. As for the plot in this book, I think it was interesting but slow to develop. Regardless, I liked the story but I am not sure if I’ll continue to read this series.
Na. Paranormal. Rh. 6 guys. Magic users. Shifters. Security Company setting. Laila and the team deal with a break in at the company. Has some angst going on. Also some tear were shed reading this story. This one focuses more on developing the rh relationship rather than moving on with the plot too much. There is an introduction to a new villain. You get to know the boys a little more. 😍 I can't wait to see how this all ties in together.
What an amazing book, this story is just wonderful I love everything about it and cant wait for the next one. The building of the relationships and all of the excitement and magic make for one amazing story. I am not one to give away any spoilers, so with that said READ THIS SERIES you won't regret it. Jaliza is an amazing Author and she has the ability to suck you right in to the store.
Finally we start to see some romance and it was such a disappointment. The guys practically ghost her for a month and then just do normal work things together and there isn't much bedroom action. Also plot of the book didn't seem to pick up until after the halfway point and then it was a little confusing. She's supposed to be best of the best magic user and the baddies get past the defenses super easily.
This book was good, but the first half was sooooooooooo slow. I was so bored! The part that actually had action was relatively good, I’d say on par with the other two books. I like this series, but I think I’m going to need a break before continuing. I’m just feeling a little bored and I know if I continue to the next book right away I won’t enjoy it because of that boredom.
Also…can we have Chez instead of Shanton?! I really don’t like Shanton and the dude wasn’t even really in this book!

Good continuation of this series, which must be read in order NOT a stand alone. This one is much more personal, revealing feelings unknown, friendships, hardships, and the work required for relationships to work. Highly recommend this series, 4 stars only because it makes you cry. And I wanted more.
Good story but too slow. Feels like the author has tried to drag it out and in four books has told a story she could have with two to the point of it becoming frustrating. I like the characters and wouldn't deter someone from reading it but also wouldn't recommend.
Had fun reading this. Laila still reads as an older character and not the 19 yo she is supposed to be, so I’ve just been ignoring her age and going with the flow. It gets more emotional for the characters in this story, and the fallout is enough to get me to pick up book 4.
There is so much going on in each of these books, but there is also a healthy dose of conflict resolution as Laila overcomes some challenges while also facing new ones.
I’m very hyped up about watching her get even closer with the men in her life. I hope she can grow from her past and find the love she deserves. With them.
I didn't enjoy this one as much. Perhaps because I'm binge reading them and I've overdosed. I found myself skimming a bunch of the building takeover scenes. And I hate when characters are killed off that I'm fond of. Kill off red shirts not others. I'm going to take a break before I continue with the next one. I still recommend the series just saddened in this one.

I am really into this series! Things are finally heating up in this book and there is so much action! I read it in a day and was thinking about it for days after. I really love the characters and the FMC is so smart and innovative. Its really cool to see how Jaliza was able to set up this world.
There’s so much happening, but it’s all well detailed. Lots of action in this one, and we get to see how Laila’s brain thinks through obstacles. She’s resilient, caring, and determined. I admire her. I’m also excited to see more of the development within her relationships.
I adore this series, and this book is a great read. I laughed, had some sad moments and thought the romance between the characters was coming along wonderful. You need to read not only this book but all the others.
What an amazing story. You can't help but fall in love with the characters. Best Reverse harem book, that I've read in a long time. Such a tearjerker, but you have to keep on reading.
This story was fantastic, emotionally captivating. The emotions that Lalia goes through from beginning to end is like a rollercoaster. The interactions between the guys and Lalia are intriguing. I do hope that the next book will be out soon.
Every book in this series is a gem of a read. I just get so engrossed in the story that I can't put it down. So many clever and interesting characters to fall in love with. I am falling deeply under the spell of this series. Can not wait for next book.
Just as good as the other books! The guys all made plans for dates but totally didn't follow through. This book showed how they made up to her for their neglect in-between fighting for their lives. I look forward to the next one!!
