With the world in turmoil, the Lee Corporation seeks to take advantage of the chaos. For Solly Masters, nothing matters more than finding his family - until the arrival of a strange object delivered by desperate man upends his plans and forces him to choose between his family and the fate of the world.

The Long Night takes a frightening real-world situation and asks a simple question: "what if?" In a world that is increasingly connected, corporations have more information about us than ever before. A fictional extension on what has actually started happening in our society, the Lee Corporation's Bonesware health monitoring implants were supposed to keep us healthy and safe - until they didn't. Now, with over ninety percent of the civilized world dead over the course of a night, the few who remain must try to survive.

The Long Night is a collaborative work between Kevin Partner and Mike Kraus. A unique take on the apocalypse and on the post-apocalyptic genre, The Long Night will be a 6-part series of full-length novels released once per month.

I write post apocalyptic science fiction both on my own account and with Mike Kraus, as well as space opera and fantasy. And one or two other bits and bobs.

Based in the south of England, I've been writing since my teens, alternating between funny and serious. In the mid 1990s, I became a regular columnist for PC Pro magazine and have written a number of business and craft books over the years.

Fiction is my first love, however - I hope you enjoy my voyages into an uncertain future.

Fun but a bit overdone. Well written...but, Okay, okay...we don't have to throw everything but the kitchen sink in one book. We seriously don't. And come on people, has no one heard of solar energy?? Lord help me. And the last page!?! Why????

Escapist post-apocalyptic fiction, part 2 of a series. Our hero continues his quest as we follow three groups trying to stay alive in very different parts of America. A few more things are revealed about the mysterious Lee Corporation, which was responsible for the mass extermination. I don't like that almost everyone is bad, has a gun and is willing to kill so readily. Especially strangers trying to tell our hero about the Lee Corporation's plans - the big secret is... bang! too late, he's dead.

Characters keep saying things like "security is our top priority" which is odd, as you'd think food, shelter and removing dead bodies would be a priority after just a few weeks. And why do they keep coming across groups of people walking everywhere? There are lots of open cars lying around. The "ending" is a bit weird and clearly designed to pander to male right-wing insecurities. Still, I'll go on and read part 3.

This continues from the first book which was very good and while it illuminates more about the nefarious plan that caused the "Long night", there is still plenty of mystery and plot twists. There were a couple of editing issues. At one point Solly was called Arnie by one of the characters. Al developed a predilection for Yiddish phrases and I don't remember him doing that in the first book. Still, the book was well done overall and I look forward to the next.

This second installment in the Long Night series follows Solly as he attempts to complete a mission that has been thrust upon him by circumstances beyond his control. It also follows Maddie and her family as they try to find safety, a task that may be easier thought of than accomplished, also Paulie's story line continues as she attempts to keep Arbroath safe which may be a Herculean task that is fraught with unforeseen complications from her own community. The more I read of this series the more immersed in these character's world and look forward to the next installment.

"History had shown time and again that a small determined group can quickly come to dominate a much larger population if they act swiftly and decisively."

The stakes are higher and the twists are more shocking in the second installment of The Long Night. Kevin Partner and Mike Kraus have done an incredible job of creating a post-apocalyptic world that is filled with danger, dirty realism and brilliantly written characters to carry it all along. The intertwining storylines are slowly starting to link together, revealing new answers and even more secrets yet to be uncovered.

Better

As the story continues we encounter new characters and journey with ones we are familiar with. Solly who feels obligated to deliver a package thousands of miles away. Bella, his ex-wife continues to care for their children. Paulie, the presumptive sheriff of a town on the west coast, tough but stupid.

This is an interesting concept but the protagonists are not compelling. I hope the next book ties it together.

The ending?

What went through my brain when I read the ending? “You’ve got to be kidding me!” Good scary book! Man’s inhumanity to man run amuck and at the opposite side compassionate dealings with all comers. The places trying to maintain the constitution are in the minority.

Great read!

A very inventive tale that is eerily close to home from personal tracking devices, to our own personal assistants like Alexa to the dream of Texas secession, to a possible foreign invasion!! Who do you trust? How do you choose when you are honor bound to save humanity?! A definite must read of unlikely heroes, love, and a ton of adventure!

Entertaining

The plot and multiple subplots continue with new characters and problems that reflect likely scenarios of national and world responses to the “long night”. Our hero continues his mission.

Jiminy wilackers!

Ooh, this has got to be one of the best series I've read this year, and I've read a lot! Absolutely brilliant twists and turns, definitely a must for post apocalyptic genre lovers, but with a difference you'll love!

Not to bad...

of a read. A little slow in parts and a bit repeated in spite of attempts at being "fast paced" ! More like story telling sometimes instead of "fast paced on the edge of your seat action" which is what I usually expect from these authors. Ah well. Only my opinion.

Disappointed

I am disappointed to find that I must now buy a third book in this series if I am to find out the ending or perhaps even more. I think I Will just leave it as it is.

Good read

Ther story continues in this dangerous time. A bit of a schock to find out the Koreans were probably behind this. Wow I wonder how they'll get out of surrendering

I thoroughly enjoyed this second in the series The Long Night and am anxiously awaiting book three which is to be released in March 2019. Only a month, I can do it, I can wait.

This book is even better than the first and it was great. There are many characters in multiple setting as well as traveling but the authors handle it perfectly. I held my breath several times, in anticipation, anxiety and even terror. I think that if there is apocalyptic event in our future it could very well be much like this. Please note there is not A cliffhanger but there are, at least THREE! I highly recommend it and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
