Dauntless returns to full price on February 9th 2019
Her job is exploration. Now Herra's newest discovery could shape the very course of galactic history.
In 2117 a probe hits an anomaly out past Pluto. Scientist believe we've discovered planet nine. Instead it's a wyrmhole, on that leads to deep space. With this discovery humans escape beyond the solar system. The Great Colonization begins as brave explorers set out to find Earth like planets to inhabit.
Herra pilots Dauntless, an exploratory class spaceship, meant to find new planets to colonize or mine. She loves nothing more than to be out on the edge, pushing the boundaries of known space. Unfortunately, her finds so far pay just enough to keep her ship functioning and her small crew paid.
When a routine examination of a new solar system picks up an unknown distress call, Herra decides to investigate, not knowing what she found would shake up the entire galaxy.
Robert lives in the Kansas City area, is a husband, and a father of twin boys. He likes post apocalyptic stories, probably a little too much. Somehow he also fits in the time to write.
A horror, science fiction and fantasy book fan since his teens, (which was a very long time ago) Robert hopes he can bring enjoyment to his readers like Fred Saberhagen, Michael Moorcock, Anne McCaffrey, J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen King, and many other did for him.
Great characters and a good storyline. I would have given the whole Wyrmhole War Saga a better rating if it had only gone through an editor before publishing it, or just had a beta reader go over it. The poor sentence structure, some significant continuity issues, and other things which should have been fixed before publishing were jarring enough to 'take me out' of the story and ruin my joy in reading what would have been a 4-5 star book.
I found this book dull and annoying as it contains too much unscientic nonsense.
The crew makes money by exploring new system and finding new habitable worlds and valuable ressources but complains when the first system doesn´t have a new habitable world? Preposterous! The fact that the selling of the coordinates of the last new habitable world they found hardly brought enough money to repair the ship seems absolutely inplausible!
The boarding of the new ship is done totally amateurishly: flying through a debris field, opening bulkheads with pressure behind them without protection, boaring with space suits without propulsion equipment, no security ropes, leaving your own ship behind unprotected etc.
The immediate attack after the narcistic action of the captain and the damage done by the attacks are absolutely implausible. I found the idea that an untrained person shoots down high tech enemy fighters flying with high velocity through space with a low tech pistol totally hillarious. When said person thinks of jumping into the attacking fighters Boba Fett style (whilst having no means of propulsion) it was too much for me...
I wanted to rate this higher. However this novel is in desperate need of some editing as there are sadly too many errors and over use of the same words. The storyline is there, the characters good but it needs some serious maintenance.
The story line is good and the characters are an interesting mix of personalities. However, the content was badly edited with so many spelling and grammar errors it was annoying to read.
