A great beginning; a man is lying dead on the floor, a woman says what will we tell the police? the other woman says tell them he is the man who killed Ruby!!

Vivienne’s sister Ruby was 16 and pregnant when she was murdered, Vivienne aged 8 found her body on her bed and then hid in her wardrobe. It was Vivienne’s evidence that helped put away Ruby’s boyfriend Jack in prison. Jack pleaded his innocence and Jack’s family was vowing revenge. Vivienne and her mother Stella move to London to rebuild their lives.

Vivienne now has a daughter Cleo but still suffers from nightmares about the night Ruby was murdered. Jack has been released from prison and now someone is threatening Vivienne, so that she tells the truth about who killed Ruby. Vivienne is having doubts that the right person was arrested and begins to investigate herself, not realising she is putting Cleo at risk.

This is such an addictive read, I couldn’t read it fast enough and I would never have guessed the ending!! Real life was on hold while I devoured this in one sitting.

A highly recommended book that deserves more than 5 stars.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.

Vivienne and Ruby were sisters. Thirty-two years ago Ruby was killed, at the time she was sixteen and very pregnant. When it happened Vivienne (eight years old) was there at home with her and afterward, she locked herself in the wardrobe. They arrested the one who was guilty at the time, thanks to the evidence that Vivienne gave to them, but now after these years, weird things are happening that made readers think What really happened and who really killed Ruby!?!

Told in dual POV, 3rd person, it’s a standalone novel. Such an enjoyable read was this one! A really good thriller just what I needed! I couldn’t guess anything and in the end, it got me by surprise! So well-written with a satisfying ending. A real page-turner, twisty, contains a few flashbacks, a bit slow at first but the second half was much better. Overall, loved it and hope you enjoy it as well!

A brutally shocking opening chapter as two women stand next to a dead man and instantly decided that they will tell the police that he killed Ruby.

But are they right and what led up to this traumatic scene...

This gripping family tragedy of the murdered teenager Ruby still haunts sister Vivienne to this day, especially as her own daughter Cleo is approaching the age that Ruby died.

Viv has always been sure that Ruby’s boyfriend Jack was the culprit, now being released from prison having served his time doubts start to surface.
This dark page turner really emphasised grief and mourning of a young death continues to linger, especially the bond between Viv and Cleo.

I liked how the story nudged you down different avenues as to what the solution could be...

Vivienne's sister, Ruby was murdered thirty two years ago, she still has nightmares about it. Vicente was a key witness in the murder trial as swathe man run away from her home. The book centres on the three women, Stella, (the mother), Vivienne and her daughter Cleo. Now the man convicted of Ruby's murder has been released from prison. The book starts off with three people standing over a dead body saying "what are we going to tell the police". This part is told in the future. We then go back in time where the story unfolds and the tension builds up.

This is one quick roller coaster of a read. There are red herrings galore. I could not read this book quick enough, wanting to find out exactly what had happened to Ruby. The book has been well researched, especially the part about EMDR treatment, which is well explained. I never once guessed the ending. I had no idea at all. I do recommend this book.

I would like to think NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction and the author Camilla Way for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve put off reading this book for months as it didn’t really jump out to me as something to read right away. How wrong was I. It was such a great book. It had really good twists and turns. Some I got some that surprised me. It had so much going on it never got boring. It was so gripping and I was hooked throughout it. I definitely recommend this book as it was excellent.

When you wake in the morning and you are still inhabiting the characters’ world you know you have read a remarkable psychological thriller. Who Killed Ruby is just such a book. Well researched and cleverly written, the intricately woven plot is so suspenseful, it leaves you screaming to know who Jack Delaney is – the man accused of the murder, the man who now, many years later, holds someone hostage. He will kill her if he doesn’t get what he wants. This we know. I hate spoilers so I won’t say what he wants or how we know he will carry out his threat, but we are left in no doubt – Jack Delaney has nothing left to lose, and Ruby’s sister, Vivienne, is in danger of losing everything. There are an array of characters within the story and each one feeds off the other beautifully, painting a believable backdrop to Vivienne and Ruby’s formative years. The conclusion is highly satisfying, if perhaps leaving you a little wistful for what might have been for Vivienne. I was totally immersed in this book, right there in the pages, thanks to the author’s skilful writing. Extraordinary storytelling. Disturbing, taut and utterly compelling, Who Killed Ruby ticks all the psych thriller boxes. Definitely a book I would highly recommend.

Oof, what was all that about? 😕 I'm gutted that I didn't like this book, I love Camilla Way's other books, especially The Dead Of Summer but this one I had to force myself to finish. I seem to be in the minority but I found it boring for the most part, only picking up about two thirds of the way in, the story just wasn't good enough for the huge suspension of disbelief required to carry it off. If I'm engrossed in a story and enjoy the characters, I can roll with all manner of preposterous plot devices and shamelessly enjoy the ride whooping all the way (think Gone Girl 😬) but this so didn't do it for me. None of the characters were interesting or likeable, the main character Viv was a total wet end and as for the complete randomness of the mysterious Dr Alek, I can't even begin to wonder. So yep, disappointing, hoping this one is just a blip and the author will return to form with her next book.

Vintage Camilla Way. This book had so many red herrings, suspects, twists & turns, character development and emotion that I could not put it down! I might have enjoyed her previous effort, The Lies We Told a smidge more so than this one, but nonetheless it's still a solid four star read!!

Who Killed Ruby is a well-written, addictive read which kept me guessing until the very end. As something significant happens (I won't say what!) the story turns into one told from dual perspectives, and I enjoyed trying to guess 'whodunnit' - not everyone is who they seem, but who?

I liked the fact that the story centres around on an old crime, from years ago - cold cases are always interesting to read about as you can see how they affect characters and the people still alive today - and then expands to be very much relevant today! We're taken on a journey as we try to work out if what Vivienne remembers, as a young child, was actually true?

I really enjoyed the twists but some parts definitely required a little suspension of disbelief. However, this is a solid, well-written crime novel that will grab the reader from page one and not let them go.

Years ago Vivienne saw Jack murder her heavily pregnant sister Ruby....or did she? The story picks up years later, Vivienne now lives with her daughter Chloe, her mother Stella runs a refuge and their lives have moved on. This book started well, but in all honesty I quickly lost interest. Half the characters felt unnecessary and the plot was stretched well beyond belief several times. The fact I didn’t like any of the characters very much didn’t help.
I really wanted to enjoy this but it didn’t engage my attention and whilst it was well edited etc the story itself didn’t work for me. I also predicted the ‘twist’ at the end. Sorry but I was disappointed with this one.

With a title like this,it's almost certain that the killer isn't going to be who they say it is.
This is an entertaining read.... it wasn't particularly believable to me,but it kept me entertained for a few hours.
Is guessed who it was by about half way through despite numerous red herrings.
The last few chapters felt a bit like EVERYTHING was being thrown at it.

In an intriguing opening scene, we see a man dead on the floor. The three people standing around are forming the story they will tell the police. From their point of view, their actions are justified. After all, he murdered Ruby! We then go back in time a couple of months and witness the events that led up to that fateful day. During this narrative we also see events from the characters' pasts which enrich the story being told. The story of Vivienne, a successful cafe owner, named for her dead sister Ruby, killed by her boyfriend decades ago when Viv was a child. The boyfriend having been convicted, mostly on Viv's own evidence. But he has always protested his innocence and when strange things start happening to Viv, she starts to doubt herself. As the stakes get higher and her whole world is threatened, can she leave her comfort zone and get to the truth once and for all?
It's hard to say much more specific about this book as the author hasn't really given anything away in the blurb. What I can say however is that this book was a very refreshing return to everything I love about the genre. The red herrings and sleights of hand were executed with aplomb. Fingers pointing at several characters along the way, slowly being whittled down until the truth came out. And boy, wow, I really didn't see that coming. Nope. Not even an inkling of a suspicion. Sucker punched me for sure. Left me reeling, gobsmacked. Well done that author!
Yes, OK, if I have to admit it, and I do for my own reputation, there were a few things that maybe skirted credibility a tad along the way but, when taken as a whole, they were relatively insignificant and didn't jar or distract, so I was happy to accept and move on.
Characterisation was great - so many well drawn people for me to get my investigative teeth into. As with most books of the genre, the author kept me on my toes with my feelings for them all along the way. The execution of the finger pointing so well done that I never felt cheated as I have with some books. It never felt like I was being duped.
Pacing was perfect and, with no superfluous padding, the story got on with itself very well. Description added to rather than distracting from the narrative.
All in all, a cracking read that I thoroughly enjoyed and which left me wholly satisfied at its conclusion. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Full of suspense, it is very difficult to put this book down as you just want to find out who did kill Ruby? I love the way the start is returned to at almost the close of the book. The story has come full circle having taken us on a journey of discovery. Lots of red herrings scattered throughout the route, and although I suspected who the guilty party was near to the end, there were still enough unanswered questions to keep me on the edge of my seat, unable to stop reading and desperate to know the 'whys' behind some of the characters' stories.
It is difficult to describe the plot in a way that doesn't spoil it. Did Jack Delaney kill Ruby? He did spend 30 years in prison for the crime. Vivienne Swift embarks on a search to uncover the truth when on the anniversary of Ruby's death she is sent a box containing some partially dead irises, Ruby's favourite flower. As Viv searches we meet and learn about her mother Stella, the commune where Viv was raised, her own daughter Cleo and various friends who all have a part to play in this tense psychological thriller.
Highly recommend this read.

Three woman standing over a mans body waiting for the police to come but what are they going to tell them? What a way to start a book! I was intrigued straight away what had happened to lead them to this moment, the second chapter takes you back to two months earlier and you slowly learn about the women and their past.
Vivenne had been the main witness to her pregnant sister Ruby’s death when she was eight years old and helped to send Jack to prison for thirty years with the support of her mum Stella. Now she is a woman with a teenage daughter trying desperately to find some happiness in her life while dealing with the nightmares that day has left her with. She can’t help but feel a sense of dread that her evidence as a child might not of been the whole truth, she is soon forced to find out who killed Ruby? Publication date 30th May

Thirty two years ago Vivienne's sister Ruby, aged just 14, and heavily pregnant, was killed by her boyfriend. Vivienne was just 8 and her testimony was responsible for putting Ruby's boyfriend Jack behind bars for over 20 years.

Jack insisted he was innocent and his family persecuted Vivienne and her mother Stella. Jack is now out of gaol and it is the anniversary of Ruby's death.

Vivienne has moved on, rebuilt her life, and has her own daughter who is nearly 14, but she still has nightmares almost every night, featuring her sister's killer, but she never sees his face.

This is a tightly plotted page turner and it won't be the only book by this author that I will read.

Really enjoyed this book. Very easy to get through in one sitting. Some twists are easier to guess than others but work together very well. The characters are written very believably. Connected with main character very early in the book, which helps the reading process tremendously as it is written from her point of view for the majority.

Only gripe would be that some character round ups felt a little rushed and maybe came across a little unbelievable, but apart from that I really enjoyed this book. Would recommend.

Very entertaining and fast psychological thriller that actually did keep me guessing until the end! This is better than many psycho thrillers that I've read, with intriguing characters and a storyline that involves the reader, although you do have to suspend your disbelief a little. I read this in one day. It's very difficult indeed to put down. Review to follow very shortly on For Winter Nights.

A tension-packed read that I raced through, not quite believing my thoughts but determined to find out what happened.
The story begins with two women discussing a body on the floor, waiting for the police to come. All we’re told is he’s the man who killed Ruby.
We then shift to a time period a little earlier where we learn about the brutal murder of Ruby, Vivienne’s sister, when she was 16. Vi’s testimony put Ruby’s boyfriend in jail, and although Vi has always had a niggling doubt about her recollection of that day things seem quite straightforward. Then Vi starts to get reminders and notes that she believes to be from the man convicted.
Alongside us learning the details of Vi’s past we watch her try to get on with life now. A new relationship, and settling into life with close friends. We see her young daughter, Cleo, excited to be receiving texts and emails from a young boy she met online. Of course there’s more to this than meets the eye.
There’s a lot packed into what is quite a short read. It does mean that things happen rapidly, and don’t always make sense at the time.
By the time we get told what actually happened and some of the loose ends are tied up, I was rather taken aback but also annoyed that so many chances to change events were ignored.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this prior to publication in exchange for my honest opinion.

3.5⭐️ rounded up

This was very easy to read but at points became rather competitive.
Although I did enjoy this it didn’t really pick up until just over half way and then it seemed to go up a gear and became really good and I was on the edge of my seat.
I guessed some of the twists, but then they came out of nowhere and I felt like I had whiplash.
I was going to up my rating but felt that the ending was ever so slightly rushed which brought it down a little for me

You know that you were properly immersed in an author’s writing and the world they’ve created when you’re still thinking about it hours after finishing it...

The opening scene sets the pace of the story with a flash-forward, there is a man dead on the floor, and the apparent killers reveal that this is the man who killed Ruby.

Vivienne has never been able to leave her traumatic past behind her. The murder of her beloved older sister and her unborn child continues to plague her dreams. The man who was convicted has always protested his innocence, and Viv cannot remember what actually happened, only what she told the police. When the anniversary of the murder comes around and Viv receives mysterious packages, she fears Jack has tracked her down and is looking for revenge.

Viv’s daughter Cleo is the other perspective in the book. She is online messaging with a guy who will not talk to her on the phone and quite frankly is obviously not a 14 year old boy, so it is not surprising when this leads Cleo to trouble. The only thing that can save her is her mother remembering what happened that fateful day that Ruby was murdered.

However, that is the only part of this story I was able to predict. I was kept guessing, and truly could not have predicted the outcome. I also loved the process of Viv’s memory recollection, getting it back piece by piece with her and experiencing her shock. Very well crafted story that really hooked me from the start. Definitely a sold 4/4.5 stars!
